That NyQuil chicken post made me research the tianeptine problem until I've learned that it's the generic name of Coaxil. And let's just say that this name makes russian people recoil in horror of what it can do.

sr002 - Coaxil / Sashash Ulz - Split
This is the second cassette release of the label where Coaxil band and Sashash Ulz from Petrozavodsk develop sound of electronics. Such can be abstract or rhythmic, reminding newfangled products labels, then the jungle of American lo-fi underground. Musicians use a variety of devices, ranging from analog synthesizers and tape recorders ending with primitive-sounds sampling.
Edition of 25, released on June 16, 2013
Split by Coaxil / Sashash Ulz
Reviews:
“Split release (SPINA!REC SR002) is by Coaxil and Sashash Ulz. Coaxil is presumably a shortened version of the word referring to the co-axial cable used for television aerials, by which they may mean to convey something of their hooked-up and broadcasting characteristics. Not much going on their side though, just some tentative electronic blips and puny pulsations. We love a good analogue smursh picnic, but the flatness of the sound here is rather unreal and offputting. ‘The Logbook’ by Sashash Ulz has a tad more substance, although most of this depth is generated by the excessive use of an echo chamber or looping device, which creates pulsating patterns out of their ambient keyboard chords. Analogue synths, tapes, and sampling are all freely used; one or both acts might be from Petrozavodsk. Edition of 25 copies of this 2013 tape are already sold out.” (Ed Pinsent, The Sound Projector)
“The final split is Coaxil and Sashash Ulz (who are from Petrozavodsk, as the website indicates, but I don't know why there is no city for the other band). Coaxil uses loops from analogue synthesizers, a bunch of sound effects and have a slightly distorted sound The music is rather minimal but the element of rhythm reminds me of the good ol' Pan Sonic, without the groove actually. On the other side we find Sashash Ulz, which also operates electronic machinery, but of these six 'bands' they (?) the most quiet ones, the much needed touch of ambient around here. Quite gentle music here, and marks a nice gentle end to these six sides of Russia's finest experiments.” (Frans De Waard, Vital Weekly)

Tianeptine use and abuse is all the rage these days. Although it's been on the market since the 1960s in Europe, Asia and Latin America as Coaxil and Stablon it never received FDA approval to be sold in the US, but can be purchased without a prescription over the internet.

The Atlantic http://theatln.tc/2CXGXQ3
"A decade on, there are still dozens of articles published every month in which depression is unquestionably described as the result of a chemical imbalance, and many people explain their own symptoms by referring to the myth." (via Quartz).
"Hyman responds succinctly when I ask him to discuss the causes of depression: “No one has a clue,” he says. There’s not “an iota of direct evidence” for the theory that a chemical imbalance causes depression, Hyman adds. Early papers that put forward the chemical imbalance theory did so only tentatively, but, “the world quickly forgot their cautions,” he says. Depression, according to current studies, has an estimated heritability of around 37%, so genetics and biology certainly play a significant role. Brain activity corresponds with experiences of depression, just as it corresponds with all mental experiences. This, says Horwitz, “has been known for thousands of years.” Beyond that, knowledge is precarious. “Neuroscientists don’t have a good way of separating when brains are functioning normally or abnormally,” says Horwitz. If depression was a simple matter of adjusting serotonin levels, SSRIs should work immediately, rather than taking weeks to have an effect. Reducing serotonin levels in the brain should create a state of depression, when research has found that this isn’t the case. One drug, tianeptine (a non-SSRI sold under the brand names Stablon and Coaxil across Europe, South America, and Asia, though not the UK or US), has the opposite effect of most antidepressants and decreases levels of serotonin. This doesn’t mean that antidepressants that affect levels of serotonin definitively don’t work—it simply means that we don’t know if they’re affecting the root cause of depression. A drug’s effect on serotonin could be a relatively inconsequential side effect, rather than the crucial treatment."

Tianeptine (brand names Stablon, Coaxil, Tatinol, Tianeurax and Salymbra) is a drug used primarily in the treatment of major depressive disorder, although it may also be used to treat asthma or irritable bowel syndrome. Chemically it is a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA), but it has different pharmacological properties than typical TCAs as recent research suggests that tianeptine produces its…
