i personally assumed that some of them maybe listened to one or two before they stopped because “they’re so outlandish that there’s no way they are true” (though some of them probably didn’t listen in general because… yeah)

forgetting if they did something similar w/ ishmael or if my brain is combining a joke I made with my remembering of canon events, but if I am remembering correctly, she would tell the same couple stories about the Lake while they were heading there, so they started to tune those out even though they did have important info
