Hello dear! Can I please request a Pin x reader fic? I have this idea in mind about them exchanging letters for several years which lead to them falling in love just through written word and then the reader comes to the the island as a suprise and Pin shows her around and they're happy together. Ending with them confessing their love during her stay. Just fluff, fluff and more fluff, please. <3
Nice Catch- Pin Hawthorne
Wanna send in something for the five days of christmas event? here’s the link! requests for it close tomorrow, so if you’ve got any ideas for Pin, feel free to drop those into my inbox!
Hi!! I’m so sorry that this took as long as it did to come out! I’m not the best at writing love confessions--its why most of my fics involve established relationships--but I really wanted to get this one right, so it took me a bit longer to write then I’d originally anticipated.
I aged Pin and the reader up to 22!
Fic type- fluff
Warnings- none
Tumblr media
Yours and Pins exchanging of letters had started during your junior year of high school. A pen-pal program had been set up, and all that you had to do was sign your name onto a sheet of paper and visit the drama room once every two weeks to see if a letter came in. The letters were being sent to high schoolers all over, some in places like France or Italy, others in spots like Canada and a variety of states throughout America.
You’d signed up so that something could occupy your time between school, homework, and everything else. Pin had signed up for the same reasons, and neither of you expected to stay in contact past freshman year--though Pin called it year ten, per the schooling systems throughout europe--but, as time went on, you realized just how wrong you’d been by making that assumption.
Time passed by quickly, and before you knew it, you were a college graduate, Pin having finished up his undergrad. You still sent letters back and forth, though they became a bit more spaced out due to busy schedules.
There came a time where you and Pin finally figured out your time difference and started weekly facetimes, laughing and chatting for two hours, which quickly turned into four. Four hours turned into six, and somewhere along the line, six hours became twelve.
You didn’t text one another often during the week because of time differences and lives outside of each other. As you both went to college--you pursuing your career of choice where Pin decided to get an undergrad that would lead to a job as a farm vet by the time he was twenty six--you stopped texting altogether, went back to your letter-sending, and kept facetiming one another every week.
By the time that you were twenty-one, you’d come to a realization.
You were in love with Pin Hawthorne. Though you realized it at twenty-one, you’d been in love with him since you were eighteen, having fallen for him through the process of written word as you got to know him.
So, you got in touch with Zoe, one of his coworkers. She recognized you from the times that you’d been on facetime with Pin as he worked an easy Saturday at the stables, and the two of you had talked a bit through that. In June, the first inklings of an idea came to mind.
You wanted to surprise Pin, but getting time off where you worked required booking it months in advance. Zoe was completely on board with the plan and introduced you to Marcus, Jade, Becky, and Mia.
It was decided in June that you’d visit Pin during one of his less-busy times of the year. The university he was attending to get his degree in veterinary science gave students the month of December off, so you booked a flight to the airport closest to the island that would arrive early-ish on the morning of the second of December.
From there, you’d take a train to get to the island, rest off the jetlag during the two and a half hours you’d be stuck there, and Zoe and Marcus would pick you up from the train station. They would drop you at the hotel that Mia had gotten you a discount on, and Jade and Becky would pick you up two hours later, after you had more time to rest and recuperate a bit more.
All in all, you’d be there at noon. Zoe would trick Pin into going into the tack room, where he’d see you standing as you waited.
Pin opened the door, and you looked up with the creak it gave as it was pulled open, having gotten lost in your thoughts as you stared at the shelves.
You looked to him, meeting his gaze, and watching as his face split into a grin.
“Oh my God. This is real, right? You’re actually here?” Pin asked.
You couldn’t help but smile, laughing slightly as you nodded. “Yeah,” you said. “I figured it was time we met each other. We’ve been friends for six years.”
“Oh my God,” Pin said again, stepping into the offices. You let him pull you into a tight hug, hugging him back just as tightly.
“I talked to Zoe. She, Jade, Becky, Marcus and Mia helped me get this set up. I’m here all month, staying a hotel that Mia’s dad owns. The basis of it is that you’re stuck with me until a bit after new years. Congrats!”
Pin laughed, hugging you again. “I’m happier than I have been in months. Thank you so much for coming down.”
“I’ve been having a great time so far, so you don’t need to thank me, Pin,” your stay had just begun, but there had been zero bumps in the road to that point. “I wanted to get to know the guy beyond the letters, is all.”
Pin laughed. “Well, you’ve arrived at the perfect time then. I’m on my lunch break. It ends at one. Care for a tour?”
You nodded. “Yeah. Sounds great.”
So, Pin lead you both out of the tack room and the tour commenced. You stood, mostly quiet and content just to hear him talk. So much of your lives had been that, rambling off at the mouth with one another and responding in kin. It was incredible to know that such a thing wouldn’t change in the event that you were visiting one another in person.
Pin had noticed that, too. The only difference he could account for was the fact that you were with one another, the fact that you were present and in-person, not just with Pin through a screen.
Pin had been in love with you since the two of you were nineteen. He was almost glad for the fact that you’d not met in person to that point, simply for the fact that he was sure that, in the event that you had, he would’ve confessed and ruined the only friendship he had that’d lasted more than half a decade.
“This is probably my favorite spot,” Pin said as the two of you came to stand on the edge of a cliff. It overlooked the water, a beachside only a couple meters off of where the tide hit the sand.
“It’s my favorite spot during spring and summer, anyway. When snow isn’t covering the ground, sitting here and watching the waves makes thinking a lot easier.”
He allowed himself a small grin as he recalled being nineteen and realizing he’d been in love with you as he sat there, It’d been one moment concerning the two of you that he’d never forget, though he could admit that it sat among what sometimes felt like countless others.
“Well, when I come down in the summer, we’ll visit this spot again,” you offered. “Make a picnic out of it, watch the sun go down. We could turn it into a breakfast picnic and watch it come up, the sun is always up later in August, anyway.”
“I love that,” Pin agreed.
He figured it was better to tell you he loved you in person than through a screen or in the process of written word. “Can we talk about something?”
“I wanted to talk to you about something as well, actually. Shoot.”
“I—” he stopped himself, the nerves taking over for a second. It was the first day of your trip. What if, after Pin confessed and discovered his love was unrequited, the remainder of your stay was completely and utterly, undeniably awkward? What if it changed the tone of your friendship for however long into your lives that it was meant to last? “I’m in love with you. I’ve been in love with you since we were nineteen.”
“I was going to say the exact same thing,” you said, feeling like a weight had finally lifted itself from your shoulders. “Except for the fact that it took me a while to realize. I was in love with you when we were eighteen, but I didn’t realize it until summer of last year.”
Pin pressed his forehead against yours, arms easily wrapping around your waist. Yours came to rest on either of his shoulders, grinning so widely that you were entirely sure your mouth would soon start to hurt as your heart filled with something that you couldn’t quite describe. It was better than what you felt when you’d looked at him before. It was something above love, something closer to sheer contentment and love combined.
“Can I kiss you?” Pin asked. You nodded, humming your agreement.
In the next second, his lips were on yours and you registered the fact that you were kissing the guy who’d been your best friend for half a decade. You also registered that there was no place you’d rather be than with him, enjoying the first day of your stay and the end of the tour of the areas around Bright Fields.
When you returned to Bright Fields, hands interlaced, Marcus was the first to notice, eyebrows raised as he grinned, where Zoe and Becky nodded at you.
“Nice catch,” Becky said, looking at you like your relationship had been something she’d expected.
“I know,” you responded. Pin pressed a kiss to the side of your head as you spoke, giving your hand a squeeze.
It’d been the first day of your stay, and somehow, it was already the best one.

1. What is one thing you will never do again? Watch The Hours. Film itself is great, but is way too triggering.
2. Would you rather be twice as smart or twice as happy? I’d take happiness easily. It’s not bad for the most part to make mistakes and I’d rather be too clumsy than be altogether miserable.
3. What happened the last time you cried? It was the day of what would’ve been our anniversary and at that moment I was alone in my car at a parking lot (waiting for the office to open) on a gloomy day. I just had to cry and let my feelings out for like 5 minutes to accept everything but I was immediately fine afterwards, haha. Grief can be funny.
4. What happened the time in your life when you were the most nervous to do something? My first job interview. It was my first adult thing ever. They never got back to me - very professional of them - but I was still grateful for the experience nonetheless.
5. What would your parents be surprised to learn about you? That I was in a whole ass relationship for technically 6 1/2 years. They probably have an inkling by now, but only about me being in a relationship. I’m sure they would be very surprised if they ever found out how long it had actually gone for.
6. What’s your worst habit? I pick at my toenails when I’m nervous or stressed. I tend to do this when I’m doing a work task that I particularly dread, and sometimes I’ll end up being fixated on the habit for like 10 minutes straight and not get anything done.
7. What superpower would you have for one day? Time travel, just to take quick trips to multiple decades and see how life was like during those times.
8. What fictional character do you have the biggest crush on? Matty from 13 Going on 30 would be one of them. Albert Finney’s character in Two for the Road is also charming as fuck.
9. Where would you live if you could live anywhere in the world? If money wasn’t an issue, probably somewhere cozy in like Switzerland or Canada.
10. What is your most bizarre pet peeve? Not necessarily a pet peeve but I get extremely uncomfortable when someone hands me a gift then they insult the gift while in front of me, saying it’s not a great gift or that I probably don’t need it, etc. Filipinos also have this habit of saying something along the lines of, “You earn way more than me so you’d probably think this gift sucks” like how do you want me to react :(((((( I love receiving gifts and the idea of being thought about already means a lot to me, so it just makes me wince a little bit when I hear statements like the above.
11. Who knows you the best? Gabie, probably. I’ve changed a lot since then, though.
12. What after school activities did you do in high school? Clubs were mandatory extracurricular activities in my high school; in my time, I joined the table tennis and yearbook clubs.
13. What “most likely to” superlative would you be most honored to receive? Idk, we didn’t have those in school. I probably would have been honored to get a journalism-themed one though; something like Most Likely To Write for NYT or Most Likely to Win a Pulitzer or something like that. Obviously that’s changed now and I’ve long let go of journalism as a passion.
14. What’s the last book you really loved? I haven’t read in a long, long while.
15. What was the greatest television show of all time? I don’t watch a lot of TV so I’m not the most credible decision-making body for this lol, but out of all the shows I’ve watched the best one would easily be Breaking Bad.
16. What’s been your favorite age so far? 16. Life was insanely easygoing back then and everything fell into place for me at the time.
17. If you could go back in time, what is one piece of advice you would give your younger self? Know when it’s enough. Be kind to yourself.
18. What one thing would you be most disappointed if you never got to experience it? Have kids.
19. Apologize or ask permission? I don’t understand the relationship between the two.
20. Unlimited love or money? I would love to never have to worry about finances ever again.
21. If you knew you would die in one week, what would you do? Take a week-long leave for work, spend all my money, bond with my dogs, throw a party for my closest friends, and honestly, make my peace with her.
22. What’s your most listened to song? Spotify doesn’t show that feature, but I bet it’s from Paramore or Hayley anyway. It would be impossible to know my most-listened to song of all time, like if we took into account my Spotify, iTunes, etc.
23. Beach vacation or European vacation? I need a beach vacation badly, but a European vacation would be a new and different experience. I’d take the latter.
24. If you could have been a child prodigy what would you have wanted to be skilled at? Playing the piano.
25. What’s the first thing you would do if you won the lottery? Depends on how much I won lmao. I’d probably retire this early if the money was big enough since I’m pretty stingy anyway. But generally, I would like to pay off whatever bills my parents are currently paying for, get back the car that we had to sell because of the pandemic, and maybe go for a solo vacation or five heheh.
26. What celebrity would you trade lives with? Kylie Jenner, for a day. Just so I can briefly have a taste of how being that rich is like.
27. If you were a performing artist, what would you title your first album? Nope.
28. What story do your friends still give you crap about? Staying with Gab despite the red flags that glared for four whole years is one of them. Angela will also never let go of that one time I tried some kind of fruit juice in high school and I described it as ‘packs a punch.’ It’s understood as a super Westernized idiom where I live and literally no one uses it in a casual sentence, so it was a hit with her and now we use ‘packs a punch’ whenever we want to describe something awesome or surprising.
29. If earth could only have one condiment for the rest of time, what would you pick to keep around? Mayonnaise and I will die on this mayonnaise-coated hill.
30. What is the ideal number of people to have over on a Friday night? Ideally? At this point? Like 20. I would love for that to be the case on the first Friday we can consider the Philippines COVID-free.
31. What was the worst age you’ve been so far? Sorry for yet another incoming Paramore reference but they literally have a lyric that goes, “22 is like, the worst idea that I have ever had.” Before turning 22 I used to think it was a weird line, like how could 22 possibly be unenjoyable? Now I’m 22 in a pandemic going through a rough breakup and I can’t even see my friends nor work in my first workplace ever.
32. What is your weirdest dealbreaker? If they wanted only cats as pets. I can deal with a dog and a cat, I guess; but cats were never fond of me so I feel like I’d struggle with this situation lol.
33. What fictional character reminds you most of yourself? Mr. Peanutbutterrrrrrr. Has a lot of love to give, doesn’t always use it on the right people. Also lives on pleasing others.
34. Do you believe in karma? Just to a tiny extent, in how I would want people’s awful actions to come bite them in the ass one day. It’s not a philosophy that controls my life and the things I do whatsoever.
35. What was your favorite TV show as a kid? My absolute favorite was Hi-5, with the original cast. As I got older my interests shifted to Spongebob and The Fairly OddParents.
36. What is the weirdest thing you find attractive in a person? I don’t think it’s weird, but I don’t hear thighs too often when people list down their favorite physical traits. It’s certainly one of mine.
37. What Jeopardy! category would you clear, no problem? A Friends-themed one, obviously. This reminds me of the Jeopardy night I had with some friends a few nights ago! That was so much fun, and Andi makes really great and fun questions hahaha.
38. What is something you’re superstitious about? I don’t think I am about anything.
39. What is the scariest experience you have ever had? Maybe that night my grandpa went into a drunk rampage. I was 9, right in his line of sight, frozen and scared shitless, and I didn’t know who he was going to strike next.
40. Who is a non-politician you wish would run for office? I never really think about this. If someone’s a non-politician then there must be a reason they aren’t, lol.
41. What cheesey song do you have memorized? Little Things by One Direction is very cheesy and it’s one of my least favorite songs of theirs, but I still have it memorized out of habit.
42. What one dead person would you most like to have dinner with, if it were possible? My great-grandpa died all the way back in the 70s, even before some of my aunts and uncles could meet him. It would be cool to spend time with him.
43. Do you think it’s important to stay up to date with the news? Yeah, absolutely. I have the stomach for it lol, so I always monitor what’s happening locally and globally. Skipping the news from time to time is fine because I get how anxiety-inducing and depressing some events can be, but there’s a huge difference between ignoring the news for your mental health and being indifferent altogether. I’d immediately judge anyone who’s the latter, and would assume you are incredibly privileged.
44. What is the best present you could ever receive? My money refunded -____________- I had food delivered to my director, Bea’s house as a surprise earlier today, but apparently I ran into a scammer driver and the fucker drove away with the meal I had bought for Bea. I reported the driver and the situation, and thankfully the customer service rep of the food delivery app quickly responded and said they’d return the full amount I paid for; but I still haven’t received it.
45. Would you give up one of your fingers if it meant you’d have free wifi wherever you go, for the rest of your life? No. Mobile data exists for a reason.
46. What’s the first thing you’d do if you were the opposite sex for one day? Check out my voice.
47. If someone told you you could give one person a present and your budget was unlimited–what present would you get and for whom? I’d love to surprise Angela with an overseas trip that would last for like a month. Traveling is one thing we have yet to do as best friends.
48. What is the nicest thing someone could say about you? Nothing particular, but it makes me happy when people call me strong and when they validate the shit I’ve gone through over the years.
49. Giant house in a subdivision or tiny house somewhere with a view? I would take the giant house. When it comes to my own place, I would want to have a lot of space to roam around.
50. What is the weirdest quirk your family has? Nothing is coming to mind.

You Better Werq, part 1 (Branjie) - Q-tip & TheDane
Welcome to this new series from Q-tip and I! It takes place in the same world as our other work, Cruising for a bruising, so please enjoy this Werq the World adventure, as we travel around Europe!
“Do you think it’ll cause problems?”
“What will?
“You being here together? If you haven’t seen each other much?”
“Well we almost broke up on a 10 day cruise.” Brooke smiles. “So what could possibly go wrong when we have 12 countries and 22 days?”
Brooke wasn’t really sure what he had expected when he had arrived in Barajas International Airport in Madrid. He had read his contract over well, knew exactly what was expected of him as he did his first tour with Werq the World abroad. WtW Europe 2020 would be his last public appearance as current reigning, and though Brooke was sad it was coming to an end, it was also a relief that his year was almost over.
What Brooke had forgotten however, was the footnote that WoW presents had commissioned a documentary of the tour, Voss Events agreeing to let a man join the almost 30 person crew for the 22 days the tour would take.
To have a camera showed in his face, the sun just rising, after he had spent 11 hours flying in from L.A, was not exactly at the top of the list of things he was interested in right now.
Brooke had rushed from appointment to appointment in L.A, flying from fitting to fitting on new costumes since he was actually home, touching base from his just finished Canada trip to make sure every loose end was tied up before he went to Europe. Brooke had juggled it all, on top of packing everything Vanjie had forgotten in their L.A home, barely cuddling the cats and Riley and making sure Courtney who had followed him from Canada had everything she needed to be their house sitter for the next month.
“So.” Brooke looked into the camera, a man who had introduced himself as Jasper Rischen, holding it up. He looked sweet, brown eyes, short hair, but he could also be anywhere between 15 and 35. “I didn’t expect this whole thing to start so soon.”
Jasper moved slightly, allowing Brooke to see his face. “Is it making you uncomfortable?”
“Oh, no! No.” Brooke held out his hand, his handler Liam already taking his suitcases away. “It was just a long flight.”
Brooke knew WOW had paid for a documentary, that Jasper would be following them around, even sleeping on their bus instead of the crewbus, but it still made him feel on edge.
“Are you going to be following me this entire time?”
Brooke wished he had done more with his hair, or at least not worn the workout pants Vanjie had tried to throw out several times telling him that they were basically trash, which Brooke knew very well. They were, however, also comfortable and lived in, and Brooke hadn’t exactly expected a camera to be shoved in his face the moment he landed.
“Follow all of you.” Jasper smiled.
“Well, we better get going then, huh?” Brooke grabbed his duffle, life on the road truly starting again.
///
Brooke sits in a car, backlight illuminating his blonde hair as it drives through the streets of Madrid.
“How I feel about this tour?” Brooke is turning his phone, flipping it back and forth between his fingers. “Excited. A little nervous.” Brooke laughs, his nose scrunching. “It’s going to be a lot.” He sits, looking out the window. “This is going to be a new experience for me. I like my independence, I like being my own boss, and if there is one thing that you are not while on tour, it’s the boss.”
Images of Brooke performing fly over the screen, Brooke truly coming alive under the stage lights, the crowd.
“Not that I ever am, when Jose is around.”
“How does it feel to know that you have to pass on your crown?
Brooke looks thoughtful. “Strange.” He pauses. “I’ve already done it once before, giving up a crown I mean, but Drag Race is a totally different experience from Miss Continental.” Brooke leaned back. “Of course it’s sad to say goodbye, but I have to admit I’m also excited at the thought of having time to sleep, see our pets and finally go on the vacation to Aruba I promised Jose on the show.” Brooke laughs, his face lighting up. “We haven’t seen each other much lately.”
“Do you think it’ll cause problems?”
“What will?
“You being here together? If you haven’t seen each other much?”
“Well we almost broke up on a 10 day cruise.” Brooke smiles. “So what could possibly go wrong when we have 12 countries and 22 days?”
///
“So we have to go left, then right?” Vanjie looked at Chancellor, their main choreographer, lifting a brow. “Or is it the other way around?”
“It’s left, left right.”
“Cool. Cool cool cool.” Vanjie grabbed his water, wiping his forehead, when he heard the best sound in the universe, Brooke’s warm voice yelling out a ‘hello hello hello’!
“Brock!!” Vanjie shot down from the stage, leaving both Detox, Asia and Kim Chi high and dry. He ran towards the door without a shred of shame, jumping directly into the arms of his boyfriend who had barely stepped inside the rehearsal space, Brooke surrounded by suitcases. “You’re here!”
“Hey boo.” Brooke laughed, holding Vanjie without a choice as he had thrown his legs around Brooke, clinging to him like a koala bear, hanging onto him as if they hadn’t seen each other in years. “Did you miss me?” Brooke’s eyes sparkled with mischief, the blue orbs watching every inch of Vanjies face. He hadn’t seen Brooke in 6 days, he and Asia doing a two day gig with Porn Idol London before they had both flown to Madrid earlier in the morning.
“Bitch you know I did.”
Vanjie grabbed Brooke’s hair, only briefly registering the camera that was hanging back, clearly filming everything, but he was a man with needs, and as long as he had heard no ho telling him to keep it PG-13, he was going to kiss his boo liked he deserved.
Kissing Brooke was wonderful, his lips soft and full, and Vanjie smiled into the kiss, the fresh taste of mint dancing on their tongues, Brooke without a doubt popping one in the taxi before throwing on new deodorant too, his prime canadian beef thoughtful like that. Vanjie was about to go in for a second filling, when a hand forced its way between their faces, Detox effectively cutting them apart. “Okay, that’s enough. This isn’t that kind of show.”
“Hey!”
Detox laughed, clearly not giving a fuck that Vanjie was yelling. Brooke transferred Vanjie to his hip, a surge of warmth rushing through Vanjie at how easily he was handled, Brooke carrying him as if he weighed nothing.
“You gotta share girl, can’t keep Brooke all to yourself.”
“I can keep him exactly where I want!”
Detox laughed, putting an arm around Brooke to get his own hug, nearly hitting Vanjie in the head, but Brooke just smiled, readily accepting the love from one of his closests drag friends.
“It’s not gonna be a problem.”
Detox snorted, clearly not believing Brooke’s low rumble. Jasper had lost interest, the man moving across the room and to the stage, filming away at Kim Chi who was getting a special lesson from Chancellor. The latinax paying intense attention to where Kim Chi’s feet where, and Vanjie knew it wasn’t without right, Kim falling almost as many times as Aquaria during last years Werq.
“If I know any of you whores right, it will be.”
“D, since when have you become such a prude?” Brooke smirked, his hand firmly planted under Vanjies tank top, spread out against his skin. It was hot in Madrid, Vanjie knowing he had to be damp from the rehearsals, Brandon Voss arranging this bootcamp for that exact reason. Madrid the perfect climate to get the queens into gear, on the same beat, force them to work in the heat that will be unavoidable, and to give them a chance to get to know their back up dancers before they hit the road. Vanjie had already run through his first number, a tongue in cheek performance of a Milkshakes remix, props and all, with the two dancers that were his primary ones.
“I’m merely saying that  while I have seen the goods.” Detox’s eyes ran over Brooke’s body, Brooke nearly choking on a laugh. “I’d like to keep all sucking noises, pussy poppins and van jams to a minimum.”
“Bitch when have you seen the goods?!”
“You know what they say.” Detox released Brooke, a big smile playing on his lips. “Sister dick will make you sick.” Detox slapped Vanjie’s thigh, turning around and walking back towards the stage.
Brooke made a move to put Vanjie down, but Vanjie only clung to him further, throwing his arms around his neck.
“Nu-uh.” It had only been 6 days since they had last seen each other, but it somehow felt like a lifetime. They had dated for almost 2 years, Brooke inching into the last weeks of his reign. Vanjie could smell the warmth of the cologne he had gotten Brooke for Christmas, the ever so familiar scent of sweat and what was so uniquely Brooke just underneath. They had both been booked for the finale taping only 2 weeks after coming back, Brooke’s fittings with the designer he had chosen from the landslide in his inbox the only reason he had even touched down at home. It was infuriating that Brooke hadn’t told him anything about his finale look, hadn’t even shared what colors he was going for, but Brooke had laughingly told Vanjie that he would consider sharing something that big when he had seen Vanjie keep something as simple as a birthday present a secret, which he guessed was a fair enough reason.
“Did you bring my shoes?”
Brooke laughed, sitting down on one of the audience seats, grabbing the gym bag he was still carrying and opening it with one hand. “Here.”
Vanjie yelled in delight, Brooke handing him a pair of sneakers still in the box, everyone momentarily stopping on stage to make sure Vanjie was okay, all of them resuming when they saw Vanjie tearing into the wrapping.
The sneakers were perfect, so crispy white they looked like new fallen snow.
“Biiiitch!” Vanjie immediately stood up, toeing off the Adidas he was wearing to pull on the brand new Nike’s he had ordered online while on the road. Online shopping was one of his favorite activities, favorite distractions, whenever he was spending long and often lonely nights in anonymous hotel rooms after club gigs that left his ears ringing from fan screams and the heavy bass.
“Look how fucking fresh I look!” Vanjie turned back and forth, parading his new kicks.
“Real fresh.” Brooke laughed, crooking an eyebrow at Vanjie’s antics.
“Thanks babe!”
“Next time, can you please have them delivered when you’re actually home? It was an absolute nightmare squishing pickup in.”
“They’re limited edition.” Vanjie said, though the look on Brooke’s face told him it apparently wasn’t enough of an explanation. “I didn’t want some lobby boy nicking them if I got them sent to a hotel. Besides,” Vanjie sat down in Brooke’s lap, taking his head in his hands. “Imma pay you real good for your Canadian Express delivery. Give you a real nice tip.”
“Mmh?”
“Yup.” Vanjie popped the p, pressing their lips together for another round of deep kisses, when they were interrupted by a call, Chancellor yelling for Brooke. His dancer was finally ready for rehearsals as Kim Chi had just finished. Brooke stood up, shedding his hoodie and throwing it on a seat, already halfway on the stage when Vanjie picked it up and threw it on, pulling it up the hood to watch his man practice on stage.
///
“Are you gonna snitch on me if I smoke?” Detox smiles, his eyes looking just left of the camera. “Good.” Detox lit up, his pink claws a natural part of his hand. Detox is in an alley, an orange shirt somewhat clashing with his hair. “Do you smoke?”
“No.”
“You better start.” Detox laughs. In the background, Kim Chi opens the stage door and slips out, a bottle of cola in hand. “We all need someway to escape this madness.”
“You think this tour is going to be madness?”
Kim Chi laughs, moves next to Detox, who throws an arm around him. “Let me give you my predictions.” Kim Chi holds up a finger. “Violet and Valentina is going to be late for every meet and greet.” Detox nods. “Detox is gonna be mad that Valentina is late for every meet and greet.”
“Hey!”
“Vanjie is gonna fight someone just cause.“ Kim Chi counts. “A’keria is gonna look amazing as always, Brooke will be utter perfection and the cause of at least one Vanjie related breakdown, and Shangela is gonna get lost at least twice.”
“Kim here is the unofficial employee of the month.” Detox laughs. “They all love her. Model citizen and all, but watch out. Her shade is deadlier than her farts.” Detox pushes Kim gently, and they both cackle. The door opens, and Chancellor calls them both back in.
“Hey, Detox?”
“Mmh?” Detox turns around.
“You were on the Atlantis cruise, right?”
“Look at you Mr. Journalist.” Detox smiles. “Seems like WOW has hired a clever little gayboy for this.”
“I’m 24.”
Detox huffs, the smile still playing in his eyes. “Yes, yes I was on the cruise.”
“Brooke said something about him and Vanjie almost breaking up, and now with Kim. They always seem so happy, so I was just wondering. I’ve never heard about that bef-“
“I don’t think that’s any of your business.”
The camera lowers, no longer capturing Detox face. “Oh, no. Of course not, I was just-“
“Brooke and Vanjie are… Well, they’re Brooke and Vanjie. Nauseatingly sweet and an absolute fucking mess. Brooke and I have been friends forever, and I love the dumb bitch with my entire heart, but if there is even an ounce of drama on this tour, I will have had it. Officially.”
///
“So, we have a lot of new girls with us this year.”
Brooke crossed his arms, slowly tapping his foot up and down. Brandon Voss had gathered them all for lunch, Jon, the tour manager, standing right by his side. Violet and Sharon had been the last to fly in, Violet coming in from Milano with a secretive smirk on her face, Sharon somewhat buzzed from flirting his way into several refills from the flight attendant who had turned out to be a race chaser.
“There are a few rules we want to go over.” Jon stepped forward, already flipped to the first side of his board.
A’keria leaned back in his seat, emptying his protein shake while Brandon droned on about bus schedules, sleeping arrangements and minibar use.
“We expect all of you to have your phones on you so we can reach you, if you’re not with your handler. Is everyone officially in the group chat?”
“Sounds almost kinky, huh? A handler?” A’keria whispered.
Brooke peaked out of the corner of his eye, A’keria wearing a shiteating grin that was only just hidden by his drink.
“Though I guess some of us brought those from home.”
“Bitch shut up.”
Brooke had to hide his own grin, Vanjie chiming in from A’keria’s other side in what could barely be considered a whisper, though it was low for Vanjie.
“If you miss transportation, it’s on you to get to the next location. Shangela, I’m looking at you.”
“Ah!” Shangela held up her arms. “You better believe you’re gonna regret those words Miss Jon. New tour, new me.”
“New trade in every town.”
Everyone laughed, Violet’s joke landing at the exact right time.
“We still need those last few files from some of you girls.” Brooke could feel Vanjie shrink two sizes even though they weren’t sitting next to each other, and he almost rolled his eyes. Brooke had turned his own music in on both email, USB and CD, the tech crew practically crying when they realised that every number had been marked, but that was what a background in pageantry did, Brooke knowing without a shadow of a doubt that A’keria had been just as prepared. Vanjie however? That was an entirely different story, Brooke sometimes believing that his boyfriend had never read a full contract in his life, Vanjie’s chaotic personality not always translating very well to the structure that was needed outside of single performances in clubs and at pride parades.
“Oh, and Brooke?”
“Mmh?” Brooke looked up, meeting Brandon Voss gaze.
“We’ve already cleared everything with VH1 and your management, so don’t worry about taping the final of Drag Race. We have everything under complete controle.”

I posted these as asks four years ago and never got to answer any so
THOUGHT YOU WERE DONE SEEING THESE FROM ME, DIDN’T YA? Me too, I’m so sorry
1. First thing you wash in the shower? Hair.
2. Are you more of a coffee or alcohol drinker? I have like two cups of coffee a month but have only drank booze twice in the past year so coffee I guess.
3. Would you kiss the last person you kissed again? Many times.
4. Do you plan outfits? Sometimes I’ll want to wear a specific shirt but it’s rarely ever clean and I never pick out clothes sooner than right before my shower.
5. How are you feeling RIGHT now? Tired but I still have to put the garbage out before I can go to bed and my neck and knees are killing me so I can’t get off the couch. But I’m in an okay mood.
6. Whats the closest thing to you thats red? Throw pillow.
7. What would you do if you opened your door and saw a dead body? Idk I’d like to say I’d be a badass about it but honestly I’d probs scream.
8. Tell me about the last dream you remember having? I legit don’t remember. I dream every night but they usually fly right out of my head when I wake up.
9. Three of your current feelings? Tired, hungry, in pain.
10. What are you craving right now? Cheeseburger and onion rings.
11. Turn ons? Um...intelligence, wit, shoulders, eyes, ginger beards.
12. Turn offs? Arrogance, chauvinism, people who don’t like cats.
13. What comes to mind when I say cabbage? Coleslaw.
14. When was the last time you cried? Why? I was doing a concert in my living room last night, as I often do, and some of the songs got me a little emosh.
15. If you could be a superhero, who would you want to be? Black Widow or Loki.
16. Did the one person who hurt you most in your life apologize? No but she did change the way she treated me so I’m taking that for what it is.
17. Do you bite into your ice cream or just lick it? I don’t eat ice cream because it hurts my teeth no matter which method of eating I use.
18. Favorite movie ever? Bring it On.
19. Do you like yourself? Depends on the day. Actually it changes even more frequently than that.
20. Have you ever met a celebrity? Many. None will top Jensen Ackles though. Well. Except Misha. Note the double entendre lol
21. Could you handle being in the military? I definitely could not. I’m also too old to enlist even if I wanted to.
22. What are you listening to right now? Walking Dead, season 1 episode 2. Because every time I start the series over, I pick up from episode 3 since I don’t really care about anyone but Daryl until Jesus happens. But today I felt like a refresher from the beginning.
23. How many countries have you visited? I went to Canada once.
24. Are your parents strict? They were while I was being raised. Then my little sister had like no rules.
25. Would you go sky diving? No way.
26. Would you go out to eat with George W. Bush? Hell yeah.
27. Whats on your mind right now? I’m really just trying to gather the motivation to get up and pee, then take the garbage out so I can go to sleep.
28. Is there anything you want to say to someone? Ehh not really.
29. Have you ever been in a castle? No but I would tour the shit out of some if I had the opportunity.
30. Do you rent movies often? Almost never because who does that anymore? But we did just rent Mile 22 from the Redbox a few weeks ago. It was pretty meh for Wahlberg.
31. Whats your zodiac sign? Leo.
32. When was the last time you had sex? A month ago. Purely by circumstance. My husband is currently on week four of a five week work rotation in Texas.
33. Name five facts about yourself. Lord. I have rapidly deteriorating joints and it fucking hurts everywhere all the time. I’ve spent the past 48 hours going back through my entire tumblr, over 300 pages. I only make homemade mac n cheese, not boxed. I’m almost finished rereading every Desus fic on AO3 for the second time (some more than two but I mean going through literally every page). One of my cats is sitting above my head and purring really loudly and another is sitting to my left snoring.
34. Ever had a near death experience? If so, what happened? Got caught driving in a blizzard. Spun off the road several times, including once off of an on-ramp. Like do not enter, wrong direction. If I hadn’t made it to the hotel right next to the on-ramp I really would’ve been fucked.
35. Do you believe in karma or predestiny? Not really.
36. Brown or white eggs? White.
37. Do you own something from Hot Topic? Most of my material possessions are from the hot topical, yes. Clothes, jewelry, funkos, makeup, miscellaneous other merch. It’s like a lot.
38. Ever been on a train? I have not.
39. Ever been in love? I am.
40. If you were paid 1 million dollars to spend the night in a supposed haunted house, would you do it? I hate this question. Of course I want a million dollars. But I’ve always wanted to stay in a haunted house anyway.
41. If you could trade places with any person living or dead, who would you trade places with? JJ Ackles. Except that I wouldn’t wish my life on her. Can we just be siblings instead?
42. If you could shorten your life expectancy by 10 years to become more attractive, would you do it? I’m already attractive. And my life expectancy isn’t that high as it is.
43. Whom do you admire and why? My husband because he does crazy shit like work 35 days in a row when he’s only supposed to work 14 just to make sure all our bills are paid and we have savings because I’m too crippled to work at all right now.
44. What was your favorite bedtime story as a child? I didn’t get bedtime stories.
45. You’re walking down the street, you come across a burning building. A woman says her baby is trapped inside, what would you do? I am literally capable of doing nothing, except maybe let her use my phone to call 911 if she hasn’t already.
46. If you could choose the future profession of your son or daughter, would you? No. I can’t even choose my own profession.
47. What was your best experience on drugs or alcohol? Idk about best but my most recent one was pretty good. I hadn’t had alcohol in over a year but a few weeks ago my sister turned 21 and we had family game night at my parents’ house so I got a little buzzed on some grapefruit White Claws and for about four hours I wasn’t in physical pain. Plus we all had a really good time just hanging out and playing games and everybody got along. That has 100% never happened in my family before. Also the last time I smoked weed, which was MANY years ago, like 6 or 7, it had the same effect and reduced my joint pain.
48. What was your worst experience on drugs or alcohol? Worst with drugs was the night I smoked an entire joint just in my living room alone and it must have been strong shit because I threw up immediately. Worst experience drinking was probably all of 2010.
50. As you’re walking down the street you find a suitcase full of money sitting next to a parked car, would you take it? Probs I’m desperate and not that great of a person.
51. If you found that a close friend has AIDS, would you still hang out with them? Yes? WTF kind of question is that? It’s 2019, AIDS isn’t cooties.
52. In front of you are 10 pistols, 5 of which are loaded. If you survive you’d receive 100 million dollars. Would you be willing to place 1 to your head and pull the trigger? Depends what kind of pistol. If it’s a revolver you can see the rounds in the barrel.
53. How old were you when you lost your virginity? 20.
54. Do you believe in ghosts, werewolves or vampires? Nope. Well I still haven’t ruled out ghosts but I also know how to dispatch them so.
55. If you could live forever, would you want to? HELL naw.
56. Which fictional movie character most resembles who you are? Janice Ian.
57. If you could go back in time, which time period would you visit? We love a renaissance.
58. If they were to televise a live execution, would you watch it? Probably.
59. If you could be the president of the USA, would you be willing to do it? Not even for like a day.
60. If you could choose the sex of your unborn child, would you want to? Yes. I want a girl. Come for me.
61. Would you rather live longer or be wealthy? I want that money beech.

I'd love to hear your biker au head cannons
I have no clue what I’m trying to do with this au
Brianna lives in a small town in Montana with a population of less than 500. She works at a diner and a nearby wildlife refuge.
Aquaria doesn’t live anywhere. She just kinda goes where life takes her. A lot of cross country traveling. She works odd jobs, does travel reviews and some other stuff to be afford it. Not having to pay rent certainly helps.
Brianna and Aquaria know each other, they’ve known each other for a few years after Brianna ran into Aquaria accusing a motel owner of refusing to give her a room because ‘she looked like a dyke’ which Aquaria is like you’re not wrong but you’re still a piece of shit
Brianna had no clue if she was gonna be murdered or not but this was 1 am in the middle of January in northern Maine and it was snowing like crazy. Aquaria storming out of the office, cursing and kicking a rock. Brianna holding groceries kinda like um hey I heard your conversation. y’know cause you were yelling. Aquaria glaring at her “what? are you gonna fucking harass me for being a dyke too? piss off.”
Brianna like no, look this is a tiny ass town with less than a 100 people and that’s literally the only motel in town. The next town over is 80 miles away and it’s snowing, it’s not safe for you to even try to go there. Aquaria rolling her eyes, swinging a leg over her bike “guess I’ll take my chances” Brianna like no I’m dead serious you can’t drive in these conditions. You don’t even have a car it’s literally just a bike if it breaks you’re fucked there’s literally nothing out there and the cops out here won’t risk trying to find you until morning. “look, I want to offer my place. It’s not much but it’s something.”
Aquaria raising an eyebrow “Why?” Brianna like what “Why are you offering? You don’t know me. For all you know I could rob you or kill you or some shit. For all I know you could be trying to do that too.” Brianna is not impressed. “we have people like you come through here a lot. Most of them carry knives at the very least. I don’t doubt you have something on you and the skills to defend yourself if you need to.” Aquaria is like okay you know something I’m impressed “You know what a dyke is though, right?” Brianna rolling her eyes “you’re a lesbian big whoop I like women too you’re not special. Look, I’m trying to do something nice. Yes or no?” Aquaria like okay yeah sure and that’s how they meet.
Aquaria stays over at Brianna’s place once and leaves town and Brianna never expects to see her again. She runs into Aquaria a year later in Houston, Texas. Brianna is there visiting a friend, they’re out at a bar, Brianna isn’t paying attention and bumps into someone and makes that someone spill their drink all over themselves. Aquaria is understandably pissed. Whipping around “Watch where the fuck you’re go-” and oh shit it’s that teeny black haired girl who’s place she crashed at a year ago. They talk a little and Brianna wants to exchange contact info.
Aquaria doesn’t have a cellphone. She takes Brianna’s number and gives Brianna the number for a PO box in Branson, Missouri. If Brianna ever really really needs to get in touch with Aquaria she can always send a letter there. “How do you not have a phone?” Aquaria like I don’t need one but a PO box is useful. Brianna squinting at Aquaria “do you even pay taxes?” Aquaria just kinda wiggles her hand “kinda” “so you don’t pay taxes”
They part ways again, Brianna moves to Montana to work with the refuge and writes Aquaria to let her know that she’s not in Maine anymore. Aquaria calls her from time to time. It’s always at the most bizarre times of day.
Brianna has shoulder length black hair. She’s not exactly sure what she’s doing with her life, she’s kind of just doing things and hoping it works out.
Aquaria tried going to college when she graduated, she hated it and dropped out. she bought her bike at age 22 with money she’d been saving since she was 14, decided that there was nothing for her in Pennsylvania, and just left.
Every time Brianna sees Aquaria it’s like her hair gets shorter and shorter. The first time she met Aquaria she has chest length blonde hair that was pulled back into a ponytail. It got shorter and shorter and now it’s a short, choppy bob that Brianna is pretty sure Aquaria did with kitchen scissors in a motel bathroom cause it looks pretty awful.
Brianna came home from the refuge to see Aquaria leaning against her bike outside her apartment complex. “I was in the area.” Turns out Aquaria had just spend the past few weeks in Canada. “You have a passport?” Aquaria is like no of course not “Aquaria that’s illegal” Aquaria shrugging “So is not paying taxes” The two of them went out, Brianna showed Aquaria around, they got a drink, went back to Brianna’s place and Brianna let Aquaria fuck her into the mattress. Aquaria stayed with her for two more days before she left. When she did Brianna told her her seasonal job at the refuge was ending in about a month. “Come back May 1st.”
Aquaria did, Brianna has everything in a duffel bag and told Aquaria to give her a ride to Porter, Indiana. “You clearly don’t have a job so might as well hitch a ride with you.” Brianna is set to work another seasonal job there for the next 6 months. They travel like that. Sometimes Aquaria will visit her while Brianna is working but she’s always there on Brianna’s last day to take Brianna wherever she found her next job.
Brianna has a blog. She writes about working with national parks and refuges and traveling. it starts getting attention and she’s eventually offered a permanent job in the national parks system. Aquaria picks her up from New Mexico, drops her off in Albany, New York and asks when Brianna wants Aquaria to pick her up. Brianna tells her that this is a permanent position. She’ll be in Albany for a while.
Brianna doesn’t hear from Aquaria for 7 months until Aquaria calls her out of the blue. It’s 2 in the morning, Aquaria is stuck in the middle of a highway somewhere in Delaware because her bike broke, she doesn’t have what she needs to fix it and Brianna is the closest person she knows. Brianna drives 5 hours to pick Aquaria up and when Aquaria makes fun of her truck Brianna says she can’t talk, not when she has a fucking motorcycle.
Aquaria stays with her for the next 2 months. It was only supposed to be a week but turns out she need to order parts and it takes a lot longer to fix it than Aquaria expects. She’s never stayed with Brianna for more than 4 days so it’s interesting to actually stay with her. Aquaria wants to get back on the road but Brianna is interesting to live with so she procrastinates a 2 week job into nearly 2 months.
Brianna likes Aquaria’s leather jacket. Aquaria has let her wear it sometimes. Brianna tries it on while Aquaria is gone, Aquaria comes back earlier than expected and Brianna’s ass gets wrecked wearing that leather jacket.
Aquaria leaves but she’s only gone for 4 months before she’s back in Albany. she stays with Brianna again, this time for 3 weeks and mooches off her. Brianna is disappointed to see that Aquaria still has that god awful bob but Aquaria says she likes it. It’s easier to maintain.
The longer Brianna stays in Albany the more Aquaria visits her. Aquaria buys Brianna her own jacket and Brianna manages to convince Aquaria to get a cellphone.

I Placed $18,000 on This 적토마게임 Session... #2424
The first VLTs in the country were installed in late 1983 by Bellevue, Nebraska as part of its municipal lottery. Belgian decks come in either 32 or 52 cards like in France. Here's an inspiring story for aspiring gamblers and small business owners: the founder of FedEx saved his floundering company by gambling in Vegas, earning $27,000 in blackjack! Being a hugely popular Poker variant, Caribbean Stud can these days be played at just about any online casino you care to visit. Even though game developers focus on slots, and Poker games represent only a small fraction of their overall portfolios, Caribbean Stud is as a rule included in the table games offering.
That is, a $10 hard six both ways means the player is betting $5 for himself and $5 for the dealers that two threes will come up before a seven and before any other six. https://www.washingtonpost.com/newssearch/?query=안전공원 In whist, bridge and skat, the rule is f,tr. This means that you must follow suit if you can. If you can't follow suit, you may play any card including a trump. The Allied Armies' Playing Cards, Montreal, Canada, 1916/17 Long before hybrid table games like Let It Ride, Mississippi Stud, and Three Card Poker revolutionized the gambling industry, it was Caribbean Stud Poker that took casinos by storm. If you ever gambled during the late 1980s through the 1990s, you’ve probably encountered this simple table game. At one point back in the day, Caribbean Stud was a casino staple.
If you’re not sure how to do this, ask one of the casino staff for help. Probability statements apply in practice to a long series of events but not to individual ones. at an online casino to give themselves time to learn the ropes before investing in real money action. A straight from a ten to an ace with all five cards of the same suit. In poker all suits are ranked equally.Any straight with all five cards of the same suit.
Some casinos choose to allow call bets once players have bought-in. You can’t “double down” on a split, and you can only “split” a hand once. Usually, one hand is almost guaranteed to go bust – except maybe when the Gods of Chance are smiling, which is too risky for most. The individual payoffs are large for those bettors whose winning horses are backed by relatively few bettors and small if the winners are backed by a relatively large proportion of the bettors; the more popular the choice, the lower the individual payoff. The same holds true for betting with bookmakers on athletic contests (illegal in most of the United States but legal in England). On all pip cards up to 9 is a traditional arrangement of suit signs, with a small numerical index on both ends of the card. Instead the 10s have a peculiar look: a large flying flag, featuring the suit sign, repeated on both sides of the subject, in the fashion of a double-headed court card.
Tumblr media
A common gamblers’ fallacy, called the doctrine of the maturity of the chances (or the Monte-Carlo fallacy), falsely assumes that each play in a game of chance is dependent on the others and that a series of outcomes of one sort should be balanced in the short run by the other possibilities. The federal government has principal jurisdiction over tribal casinos. However, the house advantage or edge is greater than for chuck-a-luck, which itself has a higher house advantage than other casino games.Contrary to popular belief, reaching 21 should not be your aim.
This is an updated and improved version of Edward O. Thorp's approach, where Newtonian Laws of Motion are applied to track the roulette ball's deceleration; hence the British title. The series is 22-18-29-7-28-12-35-3-26-0-32-15-19-4-21-2-25 (on a single-zero wheel). Zero game, also known as zero spiel (Spiel is German for game or play), is the name for the numbers closest to zero.Casinos dramatically increased their use of technology during the 1990s.
The balls can be traded for alcohol, toys, or other prizes ... but you can also ask for "special prize" tokens. $1 All hardways 2.78% per roll, $11.34 per hour, $227 per trip Typically the maximum lay bet will be expressed such that a player may win up to an amount equal to the maximum odds multiple at the table. 모바일바둑이 If a player is unsure of whether a bet is a single or multi-roll bet, it can be noted that all single-roll bets will be displayed on the playing surface in one color (usually red), while all multi-roll bets will be displayed in a different color (usually yellow).
Players at a table may bet a set amount per series (or multiples of that amount). The series are based on the way certain numbers lie next to each other on the roulette wheel. Not all casinos offer these bets, and some may offer additional bets or variations on these. The most chips one can place on a Bingo board without having a Bingo is 19, not counting the free space. In order for this to happen, only one empty cell can reside in each row and each column, and at least one empty cell must be in each diagonal, for instance: Of course, these probabilities are a critical determinant of the house advantage – that is, the long-term price of the wager. These bets pay 35-for-1, for a house advantage of 7.76%. “All or Nothing at All” wins if the shooter hits all 10 numbers before a seven is rolled.

Internal organs
1. Where is your cell phone right now? Kitchen table
2. How many pictures of yourself do you have on your phone? There are several selfies, mostly while travelling
3. What song did you listen to the most this summer? Whatever was playing on the radio that I heard everywhere I guess. Probably despacito, subeme la radio, and vente pa ca
4. Describe your hands. They’re pretty handy
5. Have you ever been chased by an animal? (If so, which one) A couple of small dogs, a horse (while I had a strong fear of horses, I cried), probably some others that I don’t remember.
6. How many people in your family have blue eyes?  Most of us, except my brother has hazel
7. What’s the longest you’ve ever been on an airplane? Australia to europe is something like 24 hours. But that’s a couple of flights. The longest I’ve been on one flight was Sydney to Doha which was 14 hours and it was hell because the air pressure was wreaking havoc on my guts and gave me the worst cramps
8. How did you get one of your scars? I was in the UK with my dad and brother when I was 10 and we were staying at a family friend’s house, along with a couple of other family friends. Me and a fellow child were building a little stick cubby house in the garden and we decided we didn’t want my older brother to get in because he would ruin everything, so we made the entrance really low to the ground so you had to slide in on your belly. Anyway, brother was chasing me and I tried to dive into the cubby house and one of the sticks scraped down my back and now I have a faint scar there.
9. How did you celebrate your last birthday? A group of friends and I went to a theme park and then went to a comedy cabaret show for dinner where we consumed a reasonable amount of alochol
10. How did you get the shirt you’re wearing? I probably bought it at a cheap clothing store. It’s a few years old so I don’t remember exactly
11. How old will you be at your next birthday? 24
12. What did you do last weekend? I was in Paris
13. What did you have for breakfast? I did not have breakfast
14. Have you ever been out of the country? Which country? I’ve been out of many of them
15. Have you ever had sex on the beach? No and I really have no desire to get sand in that region.
16. Have you ever dated someone younger than you? Yeah
17. Who was the last person you saw? Lady working at the cornerstore. For some reason whenever I buy a 6 pack of beer she always forgets to put it in as 6 and just scans one. I’m too honest to let it slide so I always look at the price and go, “...for 6 beers?” and she’s like “oh!” and rescans it as the 6pack. I mean, I go into that little store at least once a week so I’d rather not screw them over anyway.
18. Who was the last person you messaged? Anna
19. Where does your best friend live? All of my best friends still live in australia
20. Where did you last go? To the cornerstore
21. Where do you go to school? At a school
22. Would you ever get back together with any of your ex’s if they asked you? Depends on definition of ex but I’m considering (when I’m back in aus) getting back with a guy I had a thing with before I left australia
23. Who was the last person you sat next to? Somebody on the plane from Paris back to Barcelona
24. Do you have any friends that you’ve known for 10 years or more? Yeah
25. When was the last time you ate chips? Maybe a week ago
26. How many people have you kissed in this month? None :(
27. Do you know what you are going to wear tomorrow? No but you’ve just reminded me I need to hang up my laundry to dry
28. What are you doing tomorrow? I need to stop into that telemarketing office and finally pick up my money. Then going to buy some rum and hopefully mandarins too (my grocery store didn’t have any today) and head home by midday to skype with maggie and anna for maggie’s birthday while I get drunk in the early afternoon
29. What color are your socks? Navy blue with little pink hearts on them
30. Last thing you got in the mail? Letter from 2 friends (a couple) asking me to be a groomsman at their wedding next year. They can’t stand the thought of me in a dress so they decided a long time ago that I could not be a bridesmaid
31. Who were you with Friday night? Just me, alone in Paris.
32. How long does it take you to get ready to go out? Up to 45 minutes. Usually about half an hour.
33. Where’s the closest hoodie to you right now? I only have one and it’s on my torso
34. Do you prefer to take your showers at night or in the morning? Mornings because I tend to sweat while I sleep. Obviously less of an issue in winter though. When I’m working I take night showers in winter because I know that if I get in the shower at 4:30am when it’s 5 degrees out, I am never getting out of that hot water.
35. Think back to June. Were you in a relationship? No
36. Who was the last person to be in your bedroom? I don’t know, nobody has been here in a long time
37. Have you ever eaten an uncooked cookie? Do you mean... cookie dough?
38. Is there a place that you wish you could visit? There are so many more places to go.
39. Do you believe that this weekend will be a good one for you? I think it will be the standard boring mediocre weekend I have every week due to having no friends in this country
40. Have you ever fallen asleep on someone? Yeah
41. Are all of your friends in relationships? About half of my close friends are
42. Would you ever eat a bug for 1000 dollars? Sure, give me 20 bugs and you won’t see me for 6 months because I’ll be off travelling. I hear fried crickets are pretty good.
43. What’s going on with you and the last person you messaged? Friend
44. Is your cell phone usually on vibrate or is the ringtone usually on? Ringtone, unless I’m on the train or something
45. Do you sext? I did once and I was surprisingly into it but I think that’s just bc I was really horny at time. Normally, it’s really not my thing.
46. Where are your biological parents? Their homes
47. Would you take $40,000 or a brand new car? Money please. Could spend 5k on a second hand car and still have 35k spare
48. Did the last person you message, message you back? Not yet. Asleep I think
49. Tell me about the last conversation you had with the opposite sex. Wasn’t much of a conversation. It was a guy working in the cornerstore was helping me find a 6 pack of beer that was actually a full 6 pack. For some reason most of them had exactly one missing. I say it wasn’t much of a conversation, firstly because not much needed to be said, secondly we’d both be speaking our second (at least) language, and thirdly he’s deaf so I’m not sure how much he’d hear from me anyway.
50. What is something you always have with you? Internal organs
51. Are you thirsty? In both senses of the word, yes.
52. What room are you in? Bedroom. It’s too cold to not be under blankets.
53. Rice or beans? Rice AND beans (seriously, listen to that song. I heard played by a band in a little beach town in Costa Rica)
54. Last pair of shoes you wore? Maroon sneakers I got from Alcampo for like 7 euros
55. Do your parents swear? Dad sometimes, mum no
56. Are you comfortable doing things on your own or do you prefer to have company? I prefer company when I’m not at home.
57. Do you think travelling is something that every young person should do to gain life experience? If they can. But not everybody will appreciate it
58. Do you have a certain color grape you like the most? Both are good but I tend to buy red grapes with seeds because then they take me longer to eat and they’re a good snack to have while I watch tv shows to keep my hands busy
59. If you could kiss someone right now, who would it be? I’m not too fussy, anyone off the shortlist
60. Would you rather go to a party or go on a quiet date? Depends who the date is with. I do like parties.
61. Type in “[your name] needs” in the Google search: Maddie needs a daddy Reaction: Only if he pays well lmao

12. What are your 5 favorite songs right now?
Talk About You - MIKAKlefi/Samed - Hatari & Bashar MuradCounting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drum - A Perfect CircleRadio-Friendly Pop Song - Matt FishelBustin - Neil Cicierega
17. Do you think there is life on other planets?
Yeah. Probably not on any planets near us, but I believe it exists.
22. Where would you like to travel?
Germany, Canada, I’d like to go back to Scotland, Japan, Ireland.
41. Do you believe everyone deserves a second chance?
Hm… I believe that everyone deserves a chance to grow, to change, to become better as a person.
But they don’t deserve that chance with you. By all means, I think even the worst people deserve the chance to fix their mistakes, but they don’t deserve that with the people they’ve hurt. Someone who’s cheated on you might be able to change but they are not entitled to that second chance with you. Maybe people who are abusive can unlearn toxic behaviors. But they don’t deserve a second chance with the people they’ve abused and have no right to demand it.
44. Trip to outer space or bottom of the ocean?
Bottom of the ocean. I’m not sure what the actual risk assessment is with them both but for some reason the ocean feels slightly less terrifying? Less time to get there, at least.
86. Favourite character from Finding Nemo?
It’s been so long since I’ve seen that movie that I don’t really remember any names. I also…admittedly was not that big a fan of it.
119. Favourite book?
Ugh… I don’t know. Probably something predictably boring. I really liked Pride & Prejudice and Frankenstein. I guess… Mask of Shadows was up there, though? Since my URL was a reference to it for a while. And I liked the book version of The Shining much more than the movie.
149. Do you believe in ghosts?
Yeah. That’s Virginia culture babey!
150. Get the closest book next to you, open it to page 42, what’s the first line
‘There is quite a lot going on,’ said Merry; ‘and even if we tried to be quick, it would take a long time to tell.’
The Two Towers: Being the Second Part of The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien…so this was actually page 455. It was either this or my Kindle edition Good Omens, which I did not want to try and flip through and risk losing my place!

La Primavera e L’estate Circa (Jan 2, 2018-Nov 4, 2018)
The next day, after delivering our last patient to the tender mercies of the hospital, the EMT class commenced at our Yangon headquarters with 6 students, mostly our more advanced team members who had already been EMR certified.
Every day I usually taught two or three separate lectures in the morning, and then skills practice in the afternoon, with emergency responses and company responsibilities filling in any extra time.
The class went very well, especially considering it was the first time we’d taught it. Occasionally there were interesting side notes interspersed throughout. On January 11th and again on the 13th we had 6.0 magnitude earthquakes hit nearby, but they were both far enough away that the only damage at our apartment was a few pieces of flaking paint and rotten concrete chips shaken loose. On another occasion two of the omnipresent geckos were having an unusually violent row up and down the apartment walls. After a bit I glanced toward the action again and was shocked to see what looked like a giant tongue protruding out nearly half of one geckos body length and lashing furiously back and forth. Upon closer inspection I realized that he had pulled off the other geckos tail and was in the process of eating it! Also, on the night of the last day of class we got to see a spectacular full lunar eclipse combined with a blood moon which I thought was an excellent sign!
By January 30 we had plowed through through the entire EMT curriculum and the students took the final practical skills tests. The next day they started taking the online final written exam.
At this point Nathan took over administering the written tests and ambulance rideouts that remained, and also prepared for and lead out in the next EMR training that would take place while I was gone, because on February 1st I got on a plane in Yangon and started on my way back to the US.
This trip had been set in stone almost a year before when my best friend and longest-running ambulance partner had asked me to be a groomsman in his wedding!
It was so nice to come back and see all my friends in Texas again! It felt as if I’d only left just a few days ago even though it had actually been over four months! It was inspiring to see how quickly roads, homes, and businesses had been repaired compared to how everything looked when I saw it last. The only obvious signs of the historic flooding from last summers’ Hurricane Harvey was the high water mark still visible in the trees along the road and lots of dead palm trees which was partially due to flooding and also the result of exceptionally low temperatures earlier in the winter.
After 3 whirlwind weeks in Texas that included lots of motorcycle riding and Mexican food, I flew north and got to spend two more wonderful weeks visiting family and friends in Montana! Here I shared more stories of my work and was even able to go skiing in Canada!
As my time back home wound down my mom and I drove to Spokane where my return flight started from and I was able to see two more dear quondam-Texas friends before flying out on March 7th.
I arrived back in Yangon just in time to help pack up our 4th floor office in town and four story apartment in Hlaing Thar Yar and consolidate both into a two story house where we additionally transferred the company and NGO address and registrations.
While the new house was still located in Hlaing Thar Yar township, which is generally considered the worst township because of its poverty and the intolerable volume of traffic over only a few, poorly maintained roads, it had several major improvements; we no longer had a dusty, noisy street directly outside our front door and a permaswamp out the back door, and now we had real doors instead of large metal roll-up “shop” doors which were always letting snakes, rats, and mosquitoes inside through their large gaps.
On March 12 I started teaching an intensive Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (A-EMT) course at our new office headquarters. A-EMT class ran until July 16 because there is both an hour (400) and content requirement for certification, and as we were more busy than ever teaching other classes and responding to emergencies I wasn’t able to hold class every single day. This course was quite similar to January’s EMT course except it was significantly longer, covered many additional topics, and went into a lot more detail on everything. While an EMT certification is not a necessary prerequisite for a student interested in becoming a paramedic, successfully passing an A-EMT course is required.
On March 22, M-EMS was invited to the US embassy in Yangon to meet with the ambassador, the Honorable Scot Marciel, about medical development needs and challenges that we had observed while working in Myanmar. The next day, I and one other employee went back to the embassy to teach a long-scheduled class for security and maintenance staff focused on triage, first aid, and medical evacuation procedures in the case of an attack on the embassy.
On Wednesday, March 28, I drove across the city to the Road Transport Administration Department to apply for a drivers license so I could finally drive legally, although I hadn’t had any trouble with my Texas license so far. Fortunately all the offices I had to visit were in the same building, but there were so many steps and repetitions that it took nearly the whole day. That evening however I was able to walk out with my Burmese license in hand!
On Saturday night, March 31st, Nathan and I along with a couple other team members loaded up in our ambulance and struck out for Myitkyina, an average of 24 hours drive north of Yangon. We have good friends here who had finally been able to bring our Land Cruiser ambulance down to their home from where it had been languishing uselessly 3 days drive further north in Putao, the original intended location for our volunteer ambulance service in Myanmar.
Sunday night after arriving and Monday morning we met our friends and worked to get the Land Cruiser back into working condition. Then we drove over to the pharmacy to pick up some needed supplies before starting on our return trip home that evening.
The pharmacist was an acquaintance of ours from previous visits and when he recognized us he told us about a patient who was the relative of a friends friend who desperately needed a ride to the hospital in Yangon. This was particularly interesting to us, in addition to possibly being able to help someone, because our Land Cruiser was unable to be licensed and therefore vulnerable to confiscation in the central parts of the country, so if we had a patient on board we would be much more likely to make it past all the tolls and checkpoints without arousing too much suspicion.
Therefore we agreed to evaluate the patient and see if he qualified for us to treat and transport. After the pharmacist made a couple phone calls the son of the patient came to meet us at the pharmacy and immediately insisted on taking us out for lunch (shrewd). Next we drove over to the tiny local hospital where we found the patient in a small dark room with several other sick people.
The patient was a 90 year old Sikh man who had been completely healthy until March 22nd when he suddenly began experiencing weakness, shortness of breath, chest pain and a productive cough, and low oxygen saturation.
When I examined him he was polite but was anxious and confused, and in significant distress, having difficulty breathing and hypoxia that was much worse when laying flat, and chest pain that was much worse when he sat up. These are the only two options for taking a patient on an airplane, so without sedating and intubating him first, he would have to go by ground.
After starting an IV, giving him oxygen, and connecting our Lifepak 12 cardiac monitor, we moved him from bed to stretcher to ambulance and then drove across town to his house where all of his family had assembled to say goodbye. They had prepared a traditional feast and insisted we eat with them before starting on our journey.
After the meal and endless goodbyes we got the patient loaded up and pulled out of town just after dark Monday night to begin the 734 mile drive to the “special diagnostic hospital” in Yangon which was the closest thing Myanmar could offer to what the patient needed. I was in the back with the patient performing patient care and Nathan was driving.
After about 16 hours on the road we made it to Mandalay mid morning on Tuesday, April 3rd. The patient had a doctor relative who lived here so we brought the patient to her house where they had a bed and an oxygen tank waiting for him (the oxygen tank was empty however so we had to keep him on our own dwindling supply while they rushed to fill it). After that little excitement we temporarily turned over care to the family doctor so we could wash the ambulance, buy more medicine, refill our O2 tanks, eat, and rest for a bit. Late that afternoon we again loaded up the patient and drove the last 7 hours to the hospital, finally arriving at 1230 AM on the 4th, approximately 30 hours after starting the call.
On April 20th, almost halfway through the A-EMT course, a fire broke out at the 300 acre Htein Bin landfill a couple kilometers from our house. The most likely explanation was that the fire started by spontaneous combustion, since Yangons’ 2,000 tons of daily garbage that avoids the ocean has been dumped here indiscriminately for the past 17 years, without any safeguards to prevent decomposing organic waste from self igniting, but whatever the cause, it was a terrible stroke of misfortune for the people of our township.
Burning dozens of meters underground in many areas, the flames that were visible broke through to the surface unpredictably and were no larger than campfires, and unlike the billowing black smoke from the nearby Hlaing Thar Yar factories, the heavy, suffocating white smoke of the dump fire easily blended in with the clouds and regular smog, creating a false sense of normalcy.
You could tell the smoke was in the air when you breathed though, as the toxic, vaporous miasma permeated everywhere and burned and stung when inhaled, even inside the ambulance or the house. For several days we took to wearing knockoff N95 masks in a vain attempt to shield our lungs. The toxins from all the plastic, textiles, household and commercial trash were so bad and so concentrated that at least 5 people died and dozens of others were hospitalized.
Hundreds of volunteer firefighters descended on the dump with minimal to no personal protective equipment and antique fire engines, each rival group competing for recognition and donations as they heedlessly dragged fat, leaking, low pressure hoses around disregarding warnings from international experts that adding water to that much organic material was just helping the fire to spread faster. Walking around the burning wasteland it appeared that the people who lived in the dump or made their living scavenging for recyclable objects were carrying on with business as usual, picking their way around the flames that occasionally burst through the surface.
Myself and a team from M-EMS paused our ongoing training and spent several days onsite at the fire passing out fake N95 masks that had been donated for the purpose, and treating firefighters injured by trying to fight the fire in flip flops and/or stepping in hidden sinkholes, along with burn injuries, inhalation injuries, other minor trauma, and dehydration.
We also participated in a massive effort to vaccinate all the firefighters and other exposed personnel on site for tetanus, which was also donated for us to administer. The general population was amazingly supportive of the firefighting efforts. We received dozens of calls from random citizens asking what supplies we needed and what they could help us with, and other groups providing different resources received the same assistance. Private citizens also showed up en masse with homemade food, water, snacks, ad hoc rehab shelters, and other amenities for the firefighters. In fact, the government had very little to do with the event other than the precipitating factors.
The fire burned unabated for over two weeks until a couple of early monsoon rains were finally able to drown it out.
On May 1st I took a bus to Myawaddy and crossed over to Thailand intending on doing a quick visa run and then coming back. But as I was walking down the street in MaeSot I saw a familiar truck parked along the side of the road with my good friend —the nurse who I’d helped at her mountain clinic just before I started working at M-EMS— in the back of it!
It was so nice to see her again after all this time. She was in town dropping off a patient at the hospital and resupplying for a return trip to her village that afternoon and she persuasively invited me to come with her again, so I talked to headquarters and ended up taking a spur of the moment trip back home with her and her wonderful assistant and our mutual friend Blet Jaw.
I was able to help her treat patients, garden, hike to different villages to hold medical clinics, and play football (soccer) with Blet Jaw and the local kids.
During this time we were extremely fortunate to be able to sell our Land Cruiser ambulance which had just been sitting idle for nearly the entire time we had owned it. Even though it was very painful to let it go, it was perfect timing because only two weeks later the government took the next step beyond just prohibiting old or improperly imported vehicles from getting licensed and banned all unlicensed vehicles from the roads (you would think this would have been the case all along, but until this point the government only attempted to confiscate fancy attention grabbing vehicles without a license, which is why we’d always been leary about driving our Land Cruiser).
This took an enormous number of the volunteer rescue groups’ ambulances out of use, since most of them are either too old or improperly imported or both, and certainly included our Land Cruiser, which we found out after first importing was two years older than the 16 year old limit to receive an emergency vehicle license.
An interesting postscript to the Land Cruiser saga is that not two months after purchasing it fully stocked and equipped from us, the group that bought it drove it from their border region to Mandalay, where it was promptly impounded and its three crewmen arrested and thrown into the infamous Mandalay Central Prison, currently filled to three times its designated capacity.
Early on May 17 I crossed back into Myanmar and met up with Nathan and several other team members in Myawaddy, who had brought across a load of supplies we needed at our office. I was happy about the timing since it meant I wouldn’t have to subject myself to the grueling, slow, uncomfortable, 2nd class bus ride back to Yangon.
Let me talk about the Burmese busses for a minute. There are three distinctive levels of bus quality in Myanmar: VIP and 1st class, (which are both brand new arrivals to the country even since I’ve been here) which sometimes have semi-comfortable air conditioning and seats, either silence or relatively quiet music and chanting monks on the speakers, and hardly any unscheduled stops or breakdowns.
Next there’s 2nd and 3rd class, blaring loud obnoxious movies or music, and all but guaranteeing extracurricular stops and breakdowns. Sometimes they are chintzy new Chinese models (if you think Chinese products are bad in America, you should see what they export to the rest of the world) and have aircon set to Antarctic Winter, or old no-aircon post-war Japanese models clearly made for post-war Japanese legs. Often the storage compartment size to amount-of-stuff-to-be-stored ratio is inverted and any available space in the passenger compartment including the aisle is packed with everything from suitcases to bags of rice.
And finally, “Cattle Car”, which is the main method of transportation in Yangon other than taxi, with either large songtau-like open trucks, or busses that may be missing windows, side panels, or seats, and filled to beyond capacity with more people standing wedged together in the aisle than sitting on the seats.
But I digress.
After helping to load the van with our Thai spoils we crammed ourselves in after it and started on the time-consuming but short distance-wise (153 miles as the crow flies) trip back home. Driving around the northern tip of the Andaman Sea adds another 107 miles to the trip, but the steep serpentine mountain road and rough narrow dirt road coming into the Central Valley disproportionately lengthen the journey.
Early afternoon we were making good time and were about 2/3 of the way home when our automatic transmission cargo van started making alarming sounds and having trouble downshifting. First it struggled to get into 5th gear, then it started having trouble getting into 4th gear.
We stopped in the only “town” between where we started having trouble and Yangon and found a little teak and bamboo mechanic shop. They took a look at it and said there was heavy transmission damage but they could try to salvage it if we left the van there for several days. We decided to spend the night nearby and have someone drive our ambulance down in the morning to pick us up so the van could stay at the mechanic, but the only government approved hotel for foreigners was closed for remodeling leaving us with very few options.
We decided to screw the probably already screwed transmission and just drive it as far as it would go and then figure out what to do from there. The noises kept getting worse and we started smoking as we screamed along down in 3rd gear, and the “slow, annoying” bus I would have been on cruised effortlessly past us shortly thereafter. Happily, the transmission survived all the way back to the office, over 12 hours after embarking on what should have been an 8 hour drive that morning.
On June 28 I drove up to the capital with a couple teammates where we had been invited to attend a 4th of July celebration hosted by the US Embassy. We were invited because we were friends with several of the embassy officials and also because we’re the highest trained and by far the best supplied ambulance in the country, and the head of the medical unit wanted us to be available in case the ambassador or any of the guests were to have an emergency.
This meant that we had a special clearance to park in the restricted area right outside the hotel the event was hosted in!
The evening was a blast, getting to see the ambassador and hang out with my embassy friends and meet other expats was awesome, plus there was various pieces of artfully curated Americana scattered around and a surfeit of almost American tasting food to gormandize if desired. Out of the several hundred celebrators, somewhat surprisingly not a single one needed medical attention, and our evening’s festivities went uninterrupted.
The next day we visited a beautiful and expansive botanical garden in Naypyidaw for a few hours and then drove back to Yangon that afternoon.
*******************************************************************************************
The summer monsoon was an extraordinarily wet one and caused unusual amounts of damage this year all across Asia, with powerful storms, record rainfall, and shoddy infrastructure combining to wreak havoc on cities and countryside alike...
...While exploring the ‘Tham Luang Nang Non’ cave in Mae Sai, far northern Thailand right on the Myanmar border, heavy monsoon rains caused a flash flood which trapped an entire middle school soccer team deep inside the cave from June 23 to July 10, setting in motion a truly heroic cave rescue which some of my friends participated in but which cost the life of a Thai navy seal diver...
...Remnants of Typhoon Prapiroon combined with sustained heavy rainfall resulted in major flooding and mudslides throughout June and July in western Japan, forcing over 2 million people to evacuate and leaving over 200 dead, with dozens still missing...
...On the Vang Ngao river in Laos, the 410-megawatt Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy hydroelectric dam collapsed Monday night, July 23rd, triggering the catastrophic release of 5 billion cubic meters of water, leaving 40 people dead, hundreds still missing, and over 6,000 homeless in Laos and northern Cambodia...
...In Myanmar also there was extensive flooding, even more than the normal monsoon rains cause. The 2018 North Indian Ocean cyclone season was the most active season since 1992, with the formation of fourteen depressions and seven cyclones, though not all of these affected Myanmar of course.
In Hlaing Thar Yar we are far enough away from the coast to escape the brunt of these storms, but we still had so much wind that the rain constantly blew up under our roofing tiles and our poorly fitted windows leaked like a sieve; I had a constantly multiplying family of Aedes albopictus wigglers living in my windowsill all summer! Every day for months it seemed, we were out on the roof calking tarpaper nail-holes under the roof tiles. In Yangon there was sometimes six feet of water over certain parts of the city, which usually drains off quickly after the rain abates but has to be factored in when responding to emergencies or transporting to the hospital!
One day, the entire Myaungmya suspension bridge, the only bridge connecting Yangon to Myaungmya, fell into the Irrawaddy river, killing two people and providing a real boon to the ferryboatmen.
The Ministry of Construction told the public not to worry about the other 29 aging suspension bridges suspended around the country because “it has carried out maintenance work on them regularly”.
We felt very reassured upon hearing this message as we regularly traversed two of these bridges nearly every day on our way to and from downtown Yangon 😆.
On July 16 the final online written exams were administered and the A-EMT course was successfully completed, much to the delight of everyone!
I had to renew my visa again so I took the night bus to Thailand on July 17th. Since I had a little extra time I caught a Songtau out to visit my friends at Sunshine Orchard that afternoon (Wednesday the 18th) and spent the week with them. There was a group of student volunteers from Asia Pacific International University helping with some construction projects around the school campus so I got to know them a little bit and helped out where I could. On Wednesday the 25th I was able to hitch a ride in their van as far as MaeSot where I was planning on crossing back to Myanmar.
However, even though the road from the Thai-Burma border to Yangon is elevated several feet above the surrounding countryside which is mostly rice paddies, heavy rains had covered a hundred kilometers of the road in over two and a half feet of water that even the largest vehicles couldn't get through. I waited for over a week but ended up having to take a bus up to Chiang Mai and fly back to Yangon instead.
On August 29th, the Hswar Creek Dam, holding a large irrigation reservoir in Bago Region, central Myanmar, collapsed, which flooded or destroyed 85 villages and displaced over 63,000 villagers. Incredibly, only a small handful of people were killed or went missing but the deluge did manage to wash out bridges on the only two roads that connect Yangon to Naypyidaw, Mandalay, and the rest of the north half of the country.
One of M-EMS and MFA’s long-time areas of interest to expand into was disaster relief, so earlier this year we implemented a disaster response protocol to respond to these uncommonly severe cyclones, the dam bursting, and regular monsoon flooding.
We immediately had more requests for flood relief than we could handle, both in regard to the need, and to the donations of food and clothes that continuously poured in for us to distribute. We provided aid locally and also made trips to deliver loads of donated supplies like rice and other food, clothes, and medical supplies to the hardest hit areas in Bago Region, Mon state, and Karen state.
The villages that aren't situated right on a river usually don't have boats, and are often flooded out of their homes or at least stranded when rapid or unusually high flooding occurs.
Usually we collaborate with various local rescue groups we know in order to get help hauling more supplies to our flooded destination, and with other friends at the destination to find out where the needs are the greatest and set up boat transportation to get us there when we run out of road. At that point we load the boats and take the supplies to the affected villages and either give everything to the villagers directly, or meet with monks from the local monastery who are involved in feeding and housing flood victims already and leave the supplies with them.
It's amazing to see how everything looks so different when there's 5 or 6 feet of water covering the ground. In some places the flooded rice paddies and fields look like an enormous shallow lake with little islands of coconut and sugar palm trees, tall grasses, and sugarcane being the only things still visible. I would think that this would dilute the fish but the fishermen have a heyday. On our way to one village we passed an isolated bamboo house that was on stilts, and the floor appeared to be floating on the water it was so high. The only dry thing near the house was a huge mimosa tree, where some children from the house were playing and waving to us as we floated by! Another village had made a makeshift paddlewheel boat out of a bicycle lashed to the middle of a raft of plastic 5 gallon gas cans with wooden slats tied to the spokes of the back wheel.
Not all the villages we visit are still flooded. Sometimes there's several flooded villages in the vicinity of an easily accessible non-flooded village, or the water has already gone down but no one from the government or other aid groups have donated any supplies to that area, and all their rice and clothes were washed away or ruined when it flooded, so we helped them also.
On top of flood relief we were still constantly occupied with becoming certified to teach additional courses, and teaching CPR, First Aid, ACLS, PALS, EMR and specialty courses, and responding to emergencies. During my time with Myanmar EMS I personally taught or oversaw over 50 different classes and courses! The demand for training far exceeded the supply and only increased the longer we offered it.
From August 27 through September 7 we taught another 80 hour EMR course at a monastery in Yangon for 40 rescue volunteers, including a small contingent that traveled all the way down from Putao in order to attend!
One night we were woken up by a caller on our emergency line telling us about a possible suicide somewhere in Yangon. Astounded by this remarkable vagary, we pressed for details and found out that the caller was calling from America! It turns out he had been chatting with his Burmese girlfriend and at some point, she had gotten all depressed and told him that her cat had just died and she was so lonely without him and now without the cat too. She then said she had decided that she was just going to overdose and die and then hung up on him and turned off her phone. He had rushed online to see if there was any kind of emergency medical service in Yangon and found our website so now he was calling and asking for help.
We asked for any address details and fortunately he had an apartment number and partial address which was obviously meaningless to him, but we had a general idea of the location and soon we were on our way. After interpreting the address two or three different ways without success we struck on the right combination and arrived at the apartment only to find that it was on the third story and the entrance was through the lower apartment which was locked and shuttered. We beat on the lower apartment until we were convinced no one was home and tried shouting up to the third floor without success.
It was at this moment we discovered that the only time you can truly be alone and have some peace and quiet in Yangon is when you just really need someone to notice you!
Walking around looking for an alternate entry point we discovered an antique British era fire escape bolted to the crumbling bricks on the back of the building. Pulling the ambulance around back we could stand on top and just reach the lower rungs. The bottom sliding section of ladder was rusted solidly in place and we were hopeful that everything else was solid as well.
Clambering delicately up to the second balcony we knocked on the door which was opened after a while by a groggy looking gentlemen who didn’t seem the least bit phased by our unorthodox approach.
We explained who we were and why we were there and then he said “yes; I have a daughter, she’s in her room sleeping at this very moment.” (By now it was nearly 3 AM). We said “Oo ley; (uncle) why don’t you go check on her right now and make sure just for our sake that your daughter is ok.” He acquiesced and pottered off into the bowels of the apartment leaving us floating out in the ethereal third story Yangon smog layer. In a couple Burmese minutes he was back smiling and assured us that she was sound asleep in bed.
“Oo ley; if she has poisoned herself she may appear to be sleeping peacefully when in fact she is dying or already dead. Just wake her up and let us see that she is well before we leave.”
The man was gone a little longer this time but when he came back he was moving much more rapidly and said that she wouldn’t wake up. He finally invited us in and led us to the girl’s room where we found her to be unresponsive in bed. She was cool, pale, and diaphoretic and was only breathing 8 times per minute. We assisted her breathing with a BVM and checked her blood sugar which was 31 mg/dL. After starting an IV and administering 25 grams of D50 (50% dextrose) she rapidly began showing signs of improvement. We searched her room and found an empty bottle of antimalarial medicine which causes rapid hypoglycemia and can cause blindness if overdosed on.
By now she was fully conscious and cooperative and her vital signs were stable. We carried her out to the ambulance (via the stairs this time) and took her to the hospital in case there was anything that they could do to protect her vision.
Since before teaching our very first EMR course, one of my main behind-the-scenes responsibilities was to develop and improve our course materials, which is a never ending process, and as our lineup of available courses increased so did my job of upgrading our teaching materials.
Because of the complete lack of credible Burmese language medical books, we had also begun editing, formatting, and translating both a basic first aid book and an EMR textbook into Burmese. This was an enormous, frustrating process, but after over two years of work, both projects were completed and published this year!

BIO:
The rigid, stern, military lifestyle had become something of a comfort for Hunter Clarington. He knew what was expected of him which gave him a sense of calm in an otherwise chaotic world. His Father taught him and his siblings well through out their lives and Hunter really took to his teachings. He grew up with a very dominant personality and the idea that he might be marked a submissive did not even enter his mind. Though, as he grew closer to going to his institute, the thought fluttered in and out that he might be and what that would mean for his relationship with his Father. His Father was stern, sometimes abusive when he really felt the rules were broken. Anytime his Father hit him, Hunter had convinced himself that he deserved it and that was the consequence for his poor choices. He knew very clearly that his Father did not stand for disobedience, submission, or homosexuality and Hunter was determined not to be any of it - no matter what.
BIO QUESTIONS:
What is your biggest fear and why?
There is nothing to fear but failure, and to fear failure is to avoid it. I do not believe in fear, nor do I believe in failure.
Being outed as bisexual to my father.
What 3 objects/places mean the most to you and why?
My grandfather’s dog tags. Given to me on my 16th birthday. I never take them off. He was my best friend growing up. I miss him dearly.
My childhood bedroom - it’s where I got closest to my siblings, and have some of my happiest memories.
Pearl Harbor - I went on a field trip in high school, and it was such an incredible experience. The history, the destruction and devastation… you can almost feel it when you’re there.
Who is the one person you’d most like to meet (dead or alive)?
Stan Lee. Or Chris Evans. I love his portrayal of Captain America.
What is the one moment you would describe as your happiest/most excited?
When I was marked as a Dominant.
