I hadn’t been to Revilla Grooves new location. And there is NOTHING Allison likes more than to sit in a record store while I flip bins, I mean who doesn’t enjoy that? Thank you Honey. So, off we went. I had a few things already behind the counter but the new location is built for digging and looks amazing. I no longer take up the entire pathway. Usually people came down one side turned back at the sight of my roadblocking form only to hit a similar treacherous passage way where Justin was usually re-re-re-digging the 7-inches. The new space is big and open. After flipping every New Arrival and “As Seen On Instagram” (very funny) I settled on these fine gems. Bobby Valentin - Young Man With A Horn…Best In Boogaloo (Fania cat. LP 332 (Gold Label Mono)), Ali Baba (a.k.a. Louie Ramirez) (Fania cat LP 357), Kellee Patterson - Maiden Voyage (Black Jazz cat. BJ / QD 12), Tin House (Epic cat. E 30511(Epic Records Radio Station Service / Not For Sale)), The Challengers - Surfing With… (Vault cat. LP - 101) and a bonus find at a junk shop on the way home Clifford Brown - ...with Strings (Mercury cat. MG - 36005 (Mono OG Blue label with Silver print)). The Bobby Valentin has been on my list forever and has a great “Batman” song on it so it satisfies that niche too. FINALLY an OG Ali Baba! The Kellee Patterson is an upgrade and still leaves me with one Black Jazz release to complete the label run. Tin House, I am especially obsessed with Hard Rock trios, that only recorded one LP (one-and-done). The awesome, drum and organ heavy Surfing With The Challengers. I love the cool little drummer illustration. As a bonus track we stopped at one of our favorite junk shops and I scooped up a few more very nicely priced records including this beautiful copy of Clifford Brown with strings.
