Meeting and Dating Cliff Pantone
(Not my gif)(Requested by anonymous)
- You and Cliff meet when him and his family move into your city.
- It wasn’t often that families moved in; at least not families that contained children who were on their final year of high school, so when your teacher announced that you’d be receiving a new student, you were definitely a bit curious to see the person in question.
- You were even more curious when an incredibly handsome young man stepped inside of your classroom, crooked smile plastered across his face and music still blaring from the headphones around his neck.
- And, after he was introduced, you found that; just like something out of a movie, the only open seat was the one right next to yours, leaving him with no other option but to be your desk neighbor.
- The realization sent a disrespectfully strong surge of self consciousness through you and you spent the next few minutes contemplating how uncomfortable you were guaranteed to be with someone who was practically your dream guy sitting right beside you. You should probably try your best not to think about it....
- Alas, not thinking about Cliff was not going to be an easy feat. Not when he glanced around the room and found that his ideal girl was sitting right beside him as well.
- The boys eyes fell on you that first day and they haven’t left you since.
- He spent the first week in that class watching you and trying his hardest to think of something clever to say to you …before agonizing over when the right time to say it would be.
- Finally; after coming to terms with how stupid he was being, he sat down in his seat one day, leaned over, and asked if he could borrow a pencil.
- Once you’d handed one over to him, he stuck out his other hand for a quick handshake and introduced himself; searching you and your desk for some sort of conversation starter.
- The two of you talked quietly for a few minutes before your teacher demanded your attention with the beginning of her lecture; though neither of you could really pay attention to what she was saying. All you could really focus on was the obvious spark between you.
- Once class ends, he jogs after you as your walking down the hall, making up the excuse that he had to return your pencil before you ask if he’d like to keep it; considering the fact that you had more than a few classes left in the day. He opened his mouth with a smile and conceded, telling you that that would make sense before the two of you shared a laugh.
“So I’ll see you around then?” He said, pointing your pencil at you as he stilled in the middle of the crowd. You turned to look at him as you continued to walk, agreeing with him just before you disappeared out of view and left him with an excited smile.
- Obviously, you do see each other around, and when you do, you start to talk more and more.
- During this time, you get to know each other and really begin to develop feelings for one another. And once he’s sure that it won’t completely freak you out, he makes his move, writing a song for you; with the pencil he’d borrowed from you that first day you talked, and recording a rendition of it onto a cassette.
- He gives you the cassette one day after school, making you promise that you won’t listen to it until you get home. You laugh but oblige, driving home and tossing your bag to your bedroom floor before popping the tape into your stereo.
- After an endearingly awkward intro, the actual song begins to play, starting off with adorably stupid lyrics before evolving into a genuinely good, somewhat edgy love song.
- Once you finish listening; and dancing wildly around your room in a lovestruck haze, you grab your phone and dial his number, only having to wait a few seconds before he picks up; as though he’d been waiting right next to the phone in anticipation.
- You start off the conversation with an “I liked your song”, listening to him somewhat shyly reply “yeah?” before asking if you could come over; a request he eagerly allows.
- Once you arrive, you immediately launch yourself into his arms, hugging him tightly as his shock quickly fades into excitement and his own arms wrap around your waist, pulling you closer.
“You must have really liked the song.” He’d teased, looking down at you with his usual crooked smile.
- Since it was pretty clear that his feelings were mutual, he then asked if he could take you out; which you obviously agreed to.
- He lets you choose where you want to go for your first date so it really is completely up to you. A restaurant, the music shop, bowling, the park. Ask and you shall receive; he’s just happy that he’s getting to take you out.
- The two of you share your first kiss that same day while you’re out on your date. You’d just finished teasing and joking around with each other, smiles still on your faces when he’d begun to lean in; prompting you to lean in, until the two of you were kissing.
- After that, he was completely sure that you were just what he needed....
- Cliff literally cannot keep himself away from you. He’s got the clingy devotion of a beloved pet dog and that’s just something that you’re going to have to deal with because it isn’t going to change anytime soon.
- Handholding. He does that little thumb rub thing and it’s the cutest things ever.
- Hugs from behind and kisses on the cheek.
- He loves assaulting you with affection. Like he’ll grab you so that you can’t get away and just attack your neck and jaw with kisses while you squeal and wiggle in his grasp.
- You cannot sike him out for kisses. He takes it personally and he will launch himself forward and nearly shatter a tooth just so that he can obtain that precious lip lock.
- Long, passionate kisses. He cant get enough of them.
- He loves making out so much. He’s constantly trying to keep your lips on his for as long as possible.
- If the two of you are talking then you’ll cuddle face to face, his arm hooked under and behind your neck while his other hand holds you by the waist/hip. If you aren’t talking then you’ll usually spoon. At first, he was always the big spoon but then he jokingly rolled over and had you be the big spoon and now he’s developed an “embarrassing” love for it.
- He gives you so many pet names. His personal favorite is “princess” but he’ll use just about every nickname in the book.
- Please scratch his back and scalp. He loves it so much.
- Honestly, he really can’t get enough of you. He always has to approach you anytime he sees you out in public and is constantly making up excuses to hang out with you; not that he really needs to.
- Staying over at his place when his parents aren’t home; especially if Missy's gone too.
- His sister cockblocking him. Oh, I’m sorry, were you planning on trying to smash my dear brother? It’s a shame I’m home now and totally stealing your girlfriend away to watch that movie we both wanted to see.
- Missy teasing the two of you and trying to embarrass him. He calls it cruel, she calls it revenge.
- Smacking his hands away from your butt and covering it whenever you know he’s behind you. He’s a little bastard and he knows it.
- Going thrifting together.
- Hanging out in his backyard and swinging on his swing. He’s got this massive property so you might as well use it, right?
- Pool dates. Prepare to have water fights and wind up getting soaked for one reason or another.
- Going to pep rallies together.
- Junk food binges. He would absolutely be the type of dude who takes you out to pick up a bunch of the same foods so that the two of you could make tier lists together. …Truly ahead of his time.
- Him always trying to make you laugh and impress you with his humor. His jokes are pretty stupid but they always manage to make you smile; at the very least.
- He genuinely gets triggered when you talk about him like he’s a friend and not your boyfriend. Like he legitimately cringes whenever you teasingly call him your “best bud”. He either cringes or pretends like he’s angry; which he also jokingly does whenever you mention talking to another guy that isn’t him.
- Talking about bands and music with him. He’s legitimately jumped your bones for bringing up some obscure indie punk band that he’s obsessed with.
- Watching him rock out on his guitar. You’ve probably walked in on him jumping around like a mad man multiple times; though he’s never embarrassed by it.
- Having songs written about and for you. Some are good, some are bad; all are bangers.
- Going to different music shops for cds, cassettes and records.
- Receiving mixtapes that he spent hours agonizing over. If he doesn’t choose all the perfect songs than his existence is pointless.
- Your room. Oh, you mean our room. He lowkey starts moving into your bedroom after the two of you start dating. He also probably gave you one of his favorite posters to decorate with and it still; secretly, makes you wanna cry.
- Being forced to watch obscure films that he only wants to see because they star some musician that he loves. You’re either watching them or documentaries that are either admittedly interesting or boring as hell.
- Movie dates. He usually winds up being forced to watch your pick, because he “always picks those dumb movies that we don’t even end up watching anyway.”.
“But I thought you liked what happens when we cant pay attention to a film?” …Shut up Cliff.
- Friendly competitions.
- Making faces at each other like you’re five years old.
- He’d probably tell you that “aww that suuuuckkks” when you forget your jacket, and brag about how warm he is in an exaggerated fashion. He’d then act surprised and say “Oh! Did you want this?” pulling at its collar before asking what he gets out of giving it to you; or if you’re lucky he’ll unzip and literally cocoon you.
- That smile. That damned smile. You can’t deny that he has a wonderful face …and you complimenting or bragging about him is bound to make him act up. Just saying.
- He’s definitely had you paint his nails black or do his eyeliner or something; to go with his punk aesthetic. He’s also probably “stolen” some of your jewelry.
- Him coming to support you whenever you’re playing sports or doing one of your hobbies.
- Motivational talks and always having him believe in you.
- Him talking you through your problems. He always seems to know exactly what’s wrong without you having to say it.
- He’s not a very jealous person, in fact, he thinks it’s kind of cool that people are interested in his girlfriend; so long as it’s obvious that you’re only interested in him.
- Cliff is used to girls like Missy so he isn’t all too worried about you. He thinks you’re probably capable of handling your own pretty well; just like his sister is.
- Depending on the situation, your boyfriend can be a real jerk when the two of you are fighting. He’ll be passive aggressive, act apathetic, give you the silent treatment, etc. His sister probably has to talk some sense into him for the both of you.
- When he messes up, he usually takes to sitting outside your house, waiting for you to get home with a bouquet of flowers and a rehearsed apology that he usually can’t manage to remember by the time he lays eyes on you.
- He tells you that he loves you pretty much everyday. It’s usually those quick “love you”s as the two of you are saying goodbye but it’s still nice to hear; no matter how casual it is.
- He’s already planning out how the two of you will survive college together so I don’t think you’re gonna be getting rid of him anytime soon.

Why tf do people think Missy and Cliff from Bring It On are twins? Cliff clearly said "You know, I always asked my mom for a brother", and Torrance replied "He'd look a little ridiculous in that bikini". How tf would he ask that about his own twin if they're cooking in the womb together? OK maybe Cliff asked for a younger brother, but that still wouldn't stop Missy from existing and having guys "oogle her goodies" at the car wash.
Since Missy has a car and drives without an adult very early in the school year, she's either a junior (a year younger than Cliff and Torrance), or senior (same age).
I really don't know how Cliff could remember being a year old (or younger) and asking his mom for a brother. It could've been a throwaway line no one thought too deep on.
OR Missy is adopted, or Cliff's stepsister. Some people get real gross with stepsibling fantasies (ew) so I'm gonna imagine she's adopted. Adopted when Cliff was 4+ years old. And just for funzies, I'm gonna imagine she really is from Romania but because she was adopted so young she doesn't have an accent and only knows English.
All we know about their parents is they're rich and distant. Rich af. Like y'all seen their house right? They were at some benefit the night of Missy's Toro cheerleading debut. We didn't see them or hear about them at all. Yeah when Torrance asked "Is your family coming (to Nationals)", and Missy said "I don't know if Cliff is coming", she could've meant "My parents are here but I know you're not asking about them". Or she could've meant "No they're busy with something, but let's switch the conversation to you and my brother". So her parents are rich enough to have this giant, beautiful house. They could afford to give Missy all the gymnastics training and leotards she could want. They've lived in Kentucky, Detroit, Los Angeles. I have no idea what they do for a living but it's got to involve a lot of travel. And they adopted Missy (and/or Cliff). So rich, travels a lot, always busy, adopted kid(s). I'm thinking her parents are celebrities and they moved around for various long-term projects.
Missy's parents may have always been there at Regionals and Nationals, but Missy never pointed them out because you don't want to be known as So and So's daughter. Even though the look on Courtney and Whitney's faces would be priceless, it's not worth it.
And anyhoo that's how I developed a long-ass headcanon and lore for Bring It On that no one asked for, based solely off of a throwaway line and an error in their Wikipedia page.
Tl;dr: Missy's adopted and possibly from Romania. Cliff and Missy Pantone are NOT twins! Their parents are rich af and extremely private celebrities.
#bring it on#missy pantone#cliff pantone#torrance shipman#headcanon#New lore i made up for myself while on the toilet#Literally no one asked for this but here you go enjoy you're welcome

17 Questions Meme:
I’ve never done something like this so I thought I’d give it a go!
Tagged by: @adventuresofmeghatron
Nicknames: Rhubarb, Ruby, Ruby Rhu (I have red hair)
Zodiac: Aquarius
Height: 5’7”
Last Thing I googled: Skull with butterflies (painting Halloween decorations and needed a reference photo)
Song Stuck in My Head: Pay It Back by Elvis Costello (something about the line “I love you more than everything in the world / I don’t expect that will last” sticks with me)
Number of Followers: 23
Amount of sleep I got: not enough 😬
Lucky Number: I don’t have one! But I do think certain numbers are neat! I am a sucker for 2s and 5s. The angle 36.87 degrees keeps coming up in my work, so now whenever I see it I go hey! I know you.
Favorite Song: Where do I even begin! So many to choose from. I’ve been listening to the Costello album My Aim is True a lot recently. It’s fall, which means I start to listen to more Hall and Oates (I associate “It’s a Laugh” with cold weather for some reason) and Simon and Garfunkel more (specifically off the album Bookends). “Wasteland Baby” by Hozier has been bopping around my head... because ya know 2020. I’m fostering kittens right now and I always sing Patsy Cline songs to kittens at bedtime. I’m a sucker for music is what I’m trying to say.
Favorite instrument: See above. I love all the instruments! I can’t play any, but I absolutely love music and was a singer... my old joke when people ask me what instrument I play is: “I play myself.” ... which is true on multiple levels.
Dream Job: Being the sole decider of Pantone’s color of the year... a decision that sends ripple effects through the world as we know it. (2020’s color is Classic Blue if you are wondering... I still blame 2016 on the fact that the colors were Rose Quartz and Serenity - basically baby pink and baby blue - which was apparently to celebrate gender equality?! but anything that enforces the gender binary is bad news in my book). That or the writer of show and movie descriptions on streaming services.
Aesthetic: Hard to pin down. I wear a lot of greens, blues, and grays, but I’ve been getting more out of my comfort zone recently. Organized chaos. COLORS. Coffee. Tea. Forest. Beach. Lake. Right now my biggest fashion goal is to find or make a suit like Prince’s in the Raspberry Beret music video - baby blue with clouds on it! The power!!!
Favorite Author: The last novel I read was Emma by Jane Austen... but I read way more fanfic than I do books at this point. (It’s wild to look up the word count of famous books and compare them to the fanfics you read... fanfic writers y’all are the true heroes). My favorite book is probably The Aeneid by Virgil, I’ve read it twice in Latin (I was a huge Latin nerd in high school, don’t remember much) and it makes me upset that I don’t know more languages - things really do get lost in translation... so yeah, I guess fanfic authors and classic Latin poets are sort of my favorite type of writers. (Go read some Horace y’all that cocky bitch was right when he said he made a monument more everlasting than bronze.)
Favorite animal noise: Birds chirping in the morning, cat’s purring, the sound of dog or cat feet running, tree frogs at night... I could go on.
Random: I feel the most at peace near large bodies of water... they make me feel free and yet safe. Belting out a song on a cliff overlooking the ocean would probably be the most freeing experience imaginable to me.
This was really fun! I tag anyone reading who wants to join in!

Imagine If They Had Just Made Them Gay: Early 2000’s Movie Edition
I’ve got a bit of a confession to make. I consume a lot of content on a pretty regular basis. And not a lot as in “I binged watched the entire new season of Orange is the New Black in one weekend” sort of way. No, I consume a lot of content as in “I’ve somehow managed to plow through yet another +30k word Clexa-centric fanfic, caught up on the last three episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale, and re-watched Deadpool for the umpteenth time all in the span of 24 hours” sort of way. And, as most of you can commiserate with me, when it comes to finding decent LGBTQ+ centric content to watch, it’s truly slim pickings to say the least. Yes, there’s definitely been a vast uptick over the last decade in the sheer amount of LGBTQ+ content that’s being produced, but in all honesty, one can only re-watch Grey’s Anatomy and Wynonna Earp episodes so many times. So, what’s a gay to do? Well, let me introduce you to a little game I like to play called “Imagine If they Had Just Made Them Gay” The rules are simple. * Pick a movie * Preferably one with more than one female lead, but as we all know, that automatically cuts down your options by at least 60%… if not more. * Analyze the plot * Does it pass the Bechdel test? Unless you’ve picked Wonder Woman or Power Rangers, nine times out of ten, it doesn’t. * Re-imagine it if they had made the characters gay. Let’s start with some easy ones, shall we? BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM (2002) First and foremost, this movie is already extraordinarily gay. A main character who’s more obsessed with playing soccer than dating the opposite sex. Check. Two girls who prefer to go by the shortened, androgynous versions of their names. Check. Parents who assume that their kids are dating each other because their friendship is one Hayley Kiyoko style sleepover away from being classified as a full-fledged relationship. Check. Keira Knightley spending two thirds of the entire film wearing nothing more than a sports bra and soccer shorts. Check, check, and check. So then, why on earth, does this character even need to exist? Well, actually, he doesn’t. What if instead of Joe being the standard, run-of-the-mill object of affection for both Jess and Jules to pine after, he simply is nothing more than just another one of their coaches? Blasphemy, you say? But how can one have a teenage centric rom-com without the beloved (and oh so painfully stereotypical) two girls / one guy love triangle? Simple. You just don’t. Imagine if Bend It Like Beckham went something like this… Jules, a soccer-obsessed sportsbian, is in desperate need of someone to fill the open spot on her club team and just so happens to stumble across Jess, an equally talented soccer-crazed girl, while out on a run one day. The two hit it off in a “I just met you five seconds ago but am already picking out our future children’s names” sort of way and Jules asks Jess to come try out for her team. Jess wants to say yes, but there’s just one major glitch. Her parents directly forbid her. Jules, being the adorably awkward and slightly thirsty lesbian that she is, begs Jess to at least come to a tryout, saying that if she just so happens to in fact make the team, then she will help Jess hide it from her parents. Jess agrees and the two instantly go about getting to know one another… on the pitch… off the pitch… in the locker room… in the backseat of Jules’ car… But, of course, just when Jules and Jess are about to solidify their budding relationship by adopting a pair of hers and hers rescue dogs, Jess’ parents find out about her foray into the highly controversial world of women’s soccer and guilt trip her into quitting the team, and ergo Jules as well. Not willing to give up on her u-haulin’ dreams so easily, Jules goes behind Jess’ back and makes an emphatic plea directly to Jess’ parents, somehow convincing them not only of Jess’ potential future career in the USWST but also that she would make the world’s best daughter in-law. BRING IT ON! (2000) Now, I know what you’re thinking… We already have a plethora of gay cheerleaders. Brittany, Santana, and now even Waverly too thanks to the infamous opening scene of episode 203 of Wynonna Earp. But Torrance and Missy? At first glance, Bring It On! is nothing more than just another classic early 2000s high school movie. Girl meets boy. One’s popular and the other is not. At first, they literally have nothing in common, but as time progresses and they find themselves forced into a host of completely unbelievable circumstances, they come to realize that they are madly in love with one another and despite their differences, wind up together. Pretty straightforward, right? But, there’s one thing about Bring it On! That makes it stand out among the rest… and it’s not the insanely quotable dialogue. That’s right. It’s Missy. Missy, by all logical card-carrying queer accounts, should be Torrance’s love interest, not her twin brother Cliff. She not only perfectly fits the “polar opposite yet somehow we’ve got undeniable chemistry” template but also manages to go one step further, by being the one to truly help Torrance find herself and in the process unlock her inner cheerleading potential. Also, let’s be honest… No one dances like this for strictly “just a friend.” So, if you will, imagine if Bring It On! went something like this… 18-year-old Torrance Shipman seems to have everything going for her. She’s pretty, popular, has a boyfriend that could double for a real life Ken doll, and, to the surprise of no one, has just been named the captain of her high school’s cheerleading team. There’s just one minor problem…Torrance is gay. So, so painfully gay. And no one knows about it. No one, that is, except for her long time boyfriend and resident beard. Torrance is dead set on staying hidden far– think Narnia level far– in the closet until one day in walks a new girl Missy Pantone to cheerleading tryouts and suddenly everything changes. Although seemingly not the cheerleading type, Missy, a former gymnast and resident badass, is willing to give the sport a shot if it means that she still gets to flip and tumble. And also spend time with, the incredibly easy on the eyes, Torrance Shipman. After few late night, hands on practices later, Torrance and Missy are suddenly the hottest high school couple, that unfortunately, no one knows about. With the exception, of course, of Missy’s sidekick of a twin brother Cliff. Torrance’s perfect world, though, comes tumbling down like a faulty human pyramid, when one of the other cheerleaders accuses her and Missy of stealing routines from a rival school. Not wanting to lose her title, nor run the risk of being outed, she does the unthinkable and places all of the blame solely on Missy. Which, of course, leads to a major “I want all of my snapbacks and flannels back” sort of blow out between the two them, where Missy tells Torrance that she isn’t willing to be with someone who values cheerleading and being considered high school royalty over their relationship. After a good, old-fashioned heart to heart with Cliff, though, Torrance comes to realize the error of her ways and goes about making things right… including publicly coming out and announcing to the world that she and Missy are indeed a couple. So, what do you think? Simple enough game, right? What are some other movies you think that would be better if They Had Just Made Them Gay? Jess Harris-DiStefano is a Brooklyn based writer / producer who has a deep seeded passion for both creating and supporting positive LGBTQ+ related content. http://dlvr.it/PX4k2b

8 Pantone-Approved Travel Destinations That Will Up Your Insta-Game in 2019
Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2019, Living Coral, has been described by colour enthousiasts as an energizing hue embodying optimism, joyful pursuits and playful expression. It’s a dream shade for fashion and beauty editors: across the Internet, you can find shoppable galleries of peachy blushes, bright papaya nail polishes, pink leather Louboutins and coral coloured sneakers. (Find ours here.)
If you truly want to experience the cheery colour IRL, however, your best bet is to slip on a pair of flippers and actually find some living coral. Sadly, because of the warming ocean waters, the world’s coral reefs are bleaching at an increasingly scary rate — and irresponsible over-tourism has only worsened the damage. Besides, to capture the under-the-sea moment for your Instagram feed, you’ll need to invest in a waterproof camera.
And so, with a little help from our friends at The Travel Corporation Canada (TTC) — and a lot of help from the talented photo-taking travellers on Instagram— we found eight travel hotspots that will add some on-land Living Coral to your life.

The Pink City – Jaipur, India
Jaipur, the capital of India’s Rajasthan state, is widely referred to as the “Pink City” due to the inherently dominant blush colour of the city’s structures. The millennial-friendly makeover began in the 1800’s, when King Sawai Ram Singh had the entire city painted pink, a colour that symbolizes hospitality, in anticipation of a visit from Queen Victoria and the Prince of Whales’ visit.

Cinque Terre, Italy
A romantic coastal region full of history, seafood pasta and breathtaking views, Cinque Terre is comprised of five villages along Italian Riviera. The coastal cliffs, lined with vibrantly painted century-old homes, put splashes of Living Coral on display, perfectly contrasting the scintillating Ligurian sea—particularly at magic hour. On Busabout’s 11-day La Dolce Vita adventure, a day spent train-hopping through the Cinque Terre National Park and hiking pass ensures plenty of time to savour the sunset, and capture the perfect Pantone-approved picture.

Look at that. Could you, in your wildest dreams, have concocted something this magnificent? There is much to marvel at in nature. I am quite often floored by it. Lake Hillier, Western Australia.

Lake Hillier, Australia
Sadly, you can’t swim in this sorbet coloured lake off the coast of Western Australia. You can, however, view it’s unique hue from above on a private helicopter ride, where you’ll appreciate it’s unnatural-looking contrast to white sand beaches, lush forests and the teal Indian Ocean. Exactly what causes this lake’s Living Coral-like colour is up for debate, though it likely has something to do with the microorganisms that are lucky to call Lake Hillier home.

Al-Khazneh — Petra, Jordan
Petra, also known as the “Rose City,” is home to sandstone temples, tombs and caves that reveal an impressive secret civilization from some 2,000 years ago. Very little is known about the Nabateans, the nomadic desert people whose kingdom rose up from these cliffs, and who grew their substantial wealth through the booming incense trade. You may, however, recognize the city from the 1989 Hollywood blockbuster Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, which filmed several scenes in Petra.

La Muralla Roja — Calp, Spain
La Muralla Roja—which translates from Spanish to “The Red Wall”—is a unique apartment complex that was built by architect Ricardo Bofill in 1973. For $119 CAD per night, you can rent one of the building’s 50 unites on AirBnb. That way, you’ll feel a little less weird about walking around trying to capture the perfect photo of someone else’s home.

8 Pantone-Approved Travel Destinations That Will Up You Insta-Game in 2019
Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2019, Living Coral, has been described by colour enthousiasts as an energizing hue embodying optimism, joyful pursuits and playful expression.

The marvelous architecture of India 🇮🇳 The Hawa Mahal, also known as the „Palace of Winds“, is the landmark of Jaipur and reflects the pink architecture of the city. In day time it looks already wonderful but when the sun goes down and the small colorful windows begin to shine you will experience the whole magnificent of the palace and it’s atmosphere.

How To Do The Amalfi Coast In Style This Summer
https://fashion-trendin.com/how-to-do-the-amalfi-coast-in-style-this-summer/
How To Do The Amalfi Coast In Style This Summer
There are a few places on Earth that simply need to be seen to be believed. The lens of even the world’s best photographers or bikini-clad Insta darlings struggle to do the them justice – the Amalfi Coast is one of these destinations.
The entirety of this 50km stretch of coastline has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO; the largest landmass to receive the award. It’s an impossibly beautiful collection of 13 towns and villages that tumble down vertiginous cliffs with Medieval buildings clinging inexplicably to the hillside.
All are cast in pastel hues that traverse the kaleidoscope, from dusky terracotta orange to shades of yellow turned almost white from centuries of extreme sunlight. Which is, of course, a big part of its allure.
Set in Italy’s midsection on the west coast, it enjoys an archetypal Mediterranean climate. Summer sees average highs of 33C, hovering around the mid-twenties in autumn, which is our pick to plan a visit thanks to fewer crowds and more palatable weather for exploring and climbing steps, of which there are a lot.
In spite of its beauty, it hasn’t been ravaged by tourism. Prices throughout tickle the higher end of the scale and it sees extremely few package holidays, meaning bespoke trips are a must. Savvy travellers tend to spend a few nights each at two or three towns, flying into Napoli airport which sits about an hour’s drive to the north.
Hire a car and make the journey south, making time for an afternoon stop at the historical city of Pompeii on the way. The best route is to first stay in Sorrento, moving on to Positano, then Amalfi itself and ending in Ravello. Give yourself around a week to do it properly. The drive along the winding coastal path is as big a part of the trip as the locations themselves, though owing to their mountainside locations, few hotels have parking and many streets are pedestrianised. Be sure to locate a municipal carpark and reserve your space in advance as these are often fully booked in high season.
As with every town in Italy, superb cuisine is easy to find. Rise early in any of the villages and you’ll see fishermen land their catch and deliver it straight to the restaurant door. Scialatielli ai frutti di mare (fresh pasta with seafood) is a must-try dish. The shellfish featured will vary depending on the day’s haul, but invariably includes clams and the region’s rightly-lauded prawns, which many consider the best in the world. Lemons the size of giant’s fist are emblematic of the region, used to make superb limoncello and taking centre stage in savoury dishes such as risotto con agrumi e gamberetti (prawn and citrus risotto).
Whichever route you choose to take, satisfaction comes guaranteed, though be sure to make bookings in advance and come armed with a plan: this is not the kind of place to make it up as you go.
Where To Be Seen
There’s no shortage of fine bars on this stretch of coastline, but as with anywhere, some are better than others and it can be easy to overpay. One of the world’s best bartenders, Salvatore ‘the maestro’ Calabrese of London’s Donovan Bar, grew up on the Amalfi Coast where his parents owned a delicatessen. He recommends heading to the new Franco’s Bar at Le Sirenuse hotel in Positano.
“The location is sublime and the hotel itself is fantastic,” he says. “You can’t come here and not order the negroni. It’s perfectly made and the gin is some of the best in the world.” The bar itself sits suspended above the sea looking out across the cobalt-blue waters. We imagine the phrase ‘sundowners’ was invented for views such as these. Pack plenty of chinos, tailored swim shorts and louche shirts and polos.
Where To Stay In Style
There is no shortage of independent, beautiful hotels here, but for real wow-factor Calabrese recommends the Pallazo Avino in Ravello. “It’s elegant, beautiful and the staff are just superb offering a genuine warm welcome.”
Slightly smaller in scale but no less attractive, Hotel Santa Caterina in Amalfi is a glorious 19th-century villa that plays on the traditional colour palate of the Med, with more shades of blue than you can shake a Pantone chart at.
“When you’re at the bar, ask for Luigi to mix your drink,” says Calebrese. “He’s an old friend of mine and appreciates the true art of hospitality.”
TV presenter Laura Jackson – one half of Jackson and Levine and author of healthy eating bible Round to Ours – recommends staying at the five-star Villa Treville in Positano.
Much of it was designed by Franco Zeffirelli, the multi-award-winning Italian film director, whose maze of hidden pools, gardens and terraces make for an intimate and personal stay. Their beach club is also open to non-residents for lunch, with a complimentary boat shuttle service from Positano pier.
The Most Instagrammable View
One Fire Beach in the little-known town of Praiano is our pick of the places to boost your social media following and soak up the sun simultaneously. Less busy than the beaches in the better-known locales, you won’t be fighting for sun loungers here, particularly if you arrive before the 10am rush.
You’ll need to descend the 400 steps which lead to sea from Piazza San Gennaro (part of what makes the view so breathtaking) and from your spot, you’ll be able to pick out Positano and Capri on the horizon, where you’ll likely be heading next if you’ve planned your trip correctly.
It’s also the only spot on this stretch of beach which gets the sun from sunrise to sunset, so make sure there’s some strong sun cream in your luggage and be ready to lounge until dusk.
The Best Dip
Jostle with the sharp-elbowed influencers at Da Adolfo beach club in Positano. It has some of the best-value sun loungers in the town (€10) and is set on a private stretch of beach that can only be accessed by boat.
The first crossing is at 11am and you’ll recognise it by its insignia with a huge red fish at the top of its mast. Pick up the connection as early as you can to secure your spot. The food is worth hanging around for, too. Mozzarella grilled on lemon leaves is an exercise in the restraint that underpins Italian food.
The Most Romantic Meal
While it’s hard to go wrong eating out on the Amalfi, it’s always good to come armed with a first-choice restaurant and several back up options, should you not be able to book in.
“I had one of the best meals of my life at Dona Rosa,” says cook and author Anna Jones, whose debut book A Modern Way to Eat is a bestseller. “It’s out in the hills near Ravello and not many people know about it. The father runs the front of house, while the mother and daughter team run the kitchen.” Also be sure to visit nearby Minori. “There’s way fewer tourists here and it has an insanely good award-winning bakery called Pasticceria Napoli on the sea front,” Jones insists.
Where To Shop
“I always pay a visit to the Mario Romano Boutique on the corner of the Piazza Duomo in Ravello,” says Calabrese. “It’s owned by a charming older lady who stocks an excellent selection of linen and cashmere.”
In Sorrento, slip into your suede loafers and head to Bottega 21 for (more) shoes and leather bags. It’s the offshoot of famous Neapolitan leather workshop of the same name which is renowned the world over.
For classic men’s tailoring, Pepito’s in Positano is your best bet. The late Salvatore Esposito (Pepito) was a tailor before launching his own boutique, which is now managed by his wife and daughter. Shirts and suiting are superb here if you want to borrow a look from Riviera style.

SS18 Trend Report: All the trends you’ll be wearing in 2018

SS18 Trend Report: All the trends you’ll be wearing in 2018
It’s time to get ahead and jump on board the trend train – here’s our ultimate guide to the SS18 trends from the catwalk
The Fashion Month dust has settled, we’ve finally emptied out our cases from Paris Fashion Week (still can’t find that missing earring, dammit) and the street stylers are back to Kira Kira-ing their breakfasts, instead of each other outside show venues. We’ve done our Spring Summer 2018 fashion trends research, and now we’d say it’s high time for some next-season wardrobe plotting. Let’s face it, it’s never too early to start that wish-list – especially if you want more than a hope in hell of getting your hands on that Gucci bum bag. So, what did we learn from the NY/London/Milan/Paris Fashion Week whirl?
We’ve got two words – Fashion Prozac. That’s right, after an epically depressing year for politics (and just about everything else), designers reacted in the only way they know how. With uplifting, colourful, joyous clothes that took us off into another universe. Kaleidescopes of rainbow colour, the yummy new sugared almond pastels, Versace’s Insta-breaking supermodel reunion, some pretty powerful 80s power dressing – and OTT texture and fringing galore. The message: the outlook might be a little gloomy right now, but at least we can dress ourselves happy…
Scroll on down for all the Spring Summer 2018 trends to know about
Summer fashion trends 2018: Crayola colours
Designers raided the Pantone colour chart for pulsating primary colours – tomato red made a strong showing, seen everywhere from Preen to Victoria Beckham. There’s cobalt, emerald green and bright yellow. See Balenciaga’s head to toe take – canary yellow dress, layered over a long-sleeved top in the same shade, and accessorised with matching platform Balenciaga Crocs – taking the prize for coolest/craziest *delete as appropriate * collab of the season.

If head to toe brights aren’t your bag, there’s always….
Summer fashion trends 2018: Pastel colours
Delicate sugared almond shades have shaken off their Hyacinth Bucket connotations and turned themselves into a fashion statement. Preen’s standout show, inspired by saris and womens’ rights movements, was a masterclass in how to do pretty and powerful – with one-shouldered dresses and draped shapes in delicate shades of palest pink and green. The big news: lilac, that most Queen Mums-y of shades, is set for a major comeback. Buy a lilac bag now. Or have yourself a scoop of Neapolitan, like Celine’s cream and pink combo.

Summer fashion trends 2018: Puff sleeves
Princess Di and her late 80s heyday were a pervasive influence on some of the season’s key shows. Clearly the 20th anniversary of her death got Virgil Abloh thinking – he dedicated his entire Off/White show to her. And a fabulously unexpected treat from his normally streetwear-focused label it was. Puff sleeved jackets, high-waisted jeans, pristine white slouchy boots and big shouldered printed dresses. Claire Waight Keller’s debut show for Givenchy was a slick parade of strong, squared blouses in Working Girl-worthy graphic prints and teamed with cowboy boots. Meanwhile, at Saint Laurent Paris fashion week, Anthony Vaccarello brought all the Dynasty glamour for nighttime. The Power-Pouff – it’s a thing.
Topshop Tie Back Balloon Sleeve Blouse
Priced at £45, available at Topshop

Summer fashion trends 2018: Check print
You think of checks as being strictly winter-only, but they’re making a convincing case for being spring’s It print. There were folksy ginghams at Loewe, sweet red and blue plaids at Alexander McQueen, beautiful bright shopper-bag checks at Mary Katrantzou and a whole show of them at Fendi – even down to checked tights.
Stradivarius Checked Snap Button Trousers

Summer fashion trends 2018: Feather clothes
Fluffy marabou and ostrich fluttered across a whole host of SS18 – from Anthony Vaccarello’s feather-yeti ‘It’ boots at Saint Laurent to the twisted take on the trench that’s become John Galliano’s signature at Maison Margiela – this season is all about a gold brocade version with white feathers flying from the shoulders. It’s not rain-friendly, but we’ve got the new haute take on the rain mac for that…see below.
Feather-Embellished Wool-Blend Dress
Feather-Embellished Wool-Blend Dress, Christopher Kane

Summer fashion trends 2018: Fringing
Another iteration of the maximalist mood – major statement fringing, swishing across necklines, hemlines, bags…you name it. And these are no wishy-washy boho trims. The look isn’t so much haute-hippy as put-through-a-shredder. Car need a polish? No problem – just slip into one of Erdem or Calvin Klein’s dresses and shimmy away.
Summer fashion trends 2018: Beach clothes
Marc Jacobs said it best, with his mad mash-up of swirly prints, rainbow colours and turbans. Imagine the splashy, sun-drenched style of a 1960s Palm Beach socialite – Lilly Pulitzer, say – and then take it up a notch or three. Gucci’s Hawaiian-tropic print two-piece teamed with glittery gloves and a pile of necklaces is a case in point.
boohoo Scarf Print Off the Shoulder Midi Dress
Priced at £25, available at boohoo
Buy now
Summer fashion trends 2018: Suit shorts
Oh, shorts. So boring, so basic. Just lurking in the back of the drawer, only to be pulled out on holiday when no-one’s looking and all your sundresses are covered in ice cream. Or so we thought, but summer fashion trends 2018 already sees the rise of the Statement Short. Louis Vuitton’s silky boxer style, Saint Laurent’s high-waisted leathers, and a whole host of (are you ready) – Shorts Suits. That’s right – fashion-forward summer tailoring will finish at the knee.
Buttoned High-Waist Shorts
Priced at £35.99, available at Mango
Buy now
Summer fashion trends 2018: Wet look clothes
Wet-look, wipe-clean (oo-er), whatever you want to call it, the texture of the season is shiny. Christopher Kane’s black vinyl dresses and Balmain’s jumpsuits had kinky Soho vibes, while Mary Katrantzou and Calvin Klein were thinking more along the sporty waterproof lines, using plastic-coated nylon and drawstrings aplenty.
Wolf & Badger The Malaya Ruffle Skirt
Priced at £127, available at Wolf & Badger

Which brings us neatly on to….
Summer fashion trends 2018: Transparent rain macs
Trust Karl Lagerfeld to create an entire ecosystem for the Chanel SS18 Paris show – building a French cliff scene inside the Grand Palais, with real live waterfalls and cascading streams for the models to stroll round. Climate change statement or practical fashion problem solving? Maybe both. Either way – we’re covered for spring showers. Transparent plastic macs, rain hats…we’ve never seen Karl so sensible. Other labels including Valentino also produced ‘It’ macs – we never thought we’d say those words.
Clear Vinyl Trench Coat

Summer fashion trends 2018: Sportswear
Another face (more like North Face in fact) of the simmering 80s theme – Dad-tastic sportswear. That’s right, fashion fans – the shellsuit is back! Witness Gucci’s jaunty two-piece and Isabel Marant’s sexed-up tracksuit worn with high heels. The best way to carry off this trend – instead of looking like an escapee from a Soviet Olympic training camp, circa 1989 – is to dilute heavily. Take one shellsuit jacket and wear with something seriously sexy on the bottom. Or team the new sporty ‘dad’ trainers (see below) with a pretty summer dress.
Blue Limited Edition Colour-Block Chunky Trainers
Priced at £34.99, available at New Look

Summer fashion trends 2018: Floral dresses
Summer wouldn’t be summer without a sea of florals and pretty dresses – and this season doesn’t disappoint. Prizes for the sweetest go to the Liberty prints at Chloe and ditsy florals at Loewe. There’s also a whole host of sheer loveliness to choose from when it comes to the perfect summer dress – if you’re not brave enough to wear with visible briefs on full display (a big runway trend), pop yours over a high-necked blouse and shorts, a la Emilia Wickstead.

Summer fashion trends 2018: Accessories
Now you know what you should be wearing come SS18, give your outfit an instant SS18 refresh with some key accessories These are the hottest trends to invest in…
Summer fashion trends 2018: Bumbags
Go all-out and channel your inner favourite 1980s fashion icons by investing in a bumbag or a chic leather belt bag, as seen at Givenchy
We all love investing in the best trainers out there, but for SS18 the clumpier the better. Think bright whites and hike-tastic trainers.
