This is a really incredible image. But I fucking hate the internet. I don't think this is from 2024.

I can't be absolutely 100% sure, but this looks like it was stolen from this blog. If accurate, credit is owed to a photographer named Nicolas Lefaudeux who took them at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile in 2017. If you click through, Nicolas explains how he took the photo and layered it together.

If true, he put in several hundreds of hours of work only for someone to copy it, rotate it, crop it, and repost it on instagram and tumblr without his credit. Fuck that.

I just want to say I have No Idea why Tumblr started recommending your peafowl posts to me as a "based on your likes", but I am HERE for the drama and anecdotes of your peafowls anyway. My grandma has fan tailed pigeons that I love, but I've never considered looking more into birds. You have me intrigued. How many birds do you have and what kinds? What is the difference between "purple" and "violets"?

I currently have 26 peafowl (though a lot of those are babies that I will hopefully sell over the summer), 1 mille fleur d'uccle chicken, 2 gold laced wyandotte chickens, 10 old german owl pigeons, around 20 coturnix quail, and a few bobwhite quail.

And the difference between purple and violet depends on which violet you mean. The issue is that there's only one "violet" and the other is "violeta" (specifically Sonja's Violeta). Violet is a European-born morph that is usually specified by the addition of EU to the morph name (EU Violet). Sonja's Violeta is a US-born color morph that is completely separate from purple and violet, but it often gets called "violet" because people are casually sexist and have no respect for language.

Sonja is the wife of the man upon whose farm Sonja's Violeta first appeared. He named the morph after his wife so that she would continue to live on as long as the morph does. The Buford Bronze morph, commonly shortened to just Bronze by some, usually retains the "Buford" in the name as it was first named by Buford Abbot in the 1980's. Where Buford's name tends to remain attached to the morph name, Sonja's name tends to be left off AND the morph name tends to be called "violet" instead of violeta. I hate this with a passion. Not only is violet plain old just more BORING than violeta, it's also HIGHLY confusing to new (and even some old) folks who hear "violet" tossed around for both Sonja's violeta and EU violet, when the two birds look NOTHING alike.

So, with that understanding in hand (hopefully), purple is different from Sonja's violeta because it's a completely different morph that uses different genes. If you click the links in this post it will take you to the peafowl image database, which will show you pics of the morphs I'm discussing, and you'll see Sonja's violeta is this rich, dark color, and purple is a warm muted color.

However, purple is only different from EU violet by intensity of the color. Normally when you breed 2 different morphs together, rather than producing a bird that is a mix of both, you produce a wild type that carries 1 allele for each mutation. For purple and violet, this isn't true; when you breed a violet to a purple, you get a really good purple or a really crappy violet, a bird that's somewhere between the two. This is the ONLY morph that does that in peafowl. It's believed to be the same gene, but one is basically a much higher quality, or perhaps has a modifier involved to increase the effect. Personally I think purple/violet are a dilute gene rather than a full morph, and that EU violet is a stronger version of the gene.

7th Stage Set List Speculation

I put way too much time and effort into thinking up a possible set list for 7th stage, and I’m sure it’ll be way off, but I’m curious how close I can get. Some clarifications, other ideas, and explanations below the read more. Be warned, it’s very long.

*This is not an official set Utapri 7th Stage list, just speculation.

Basic Layout:

1. This is all assuming they want something similar-ish to Maji Love Kingdom, plus solos and other recent songs. I didnt want to just copy the Maji Love Kingdom set list and whack some solos in there

2. Another order I considered was similar to the 5th stage layout where they did ‘character 1 solo, character 2 solo, character 3 solo, song they did together.’ I do think this is definitely possible for 7th stage, and if they do do this, it could be, for example, Tokiya solo, Cecil solo, Yamato solo, Colourfully Spark. I mainly didnt use this for my primary example because I figured it might be odd if they arent doing Quartet Night Solos. 

3. Not very notable, but I also placed the solos in the order the boys are usually in (Otoya, Masato, Natsuki, Tokiya, Ren, Syo, Cecil) with the matching Heavens order. 

4. I did my best to not have too much focus on one group to the point where you dont see another at all until the second half or later. This happened with 6th stage with Heavens not even being introduced until an hour and 45 minutes in. There is a bit of a gap without Quartet Night as Heavens and Starish do their solos, but I feel like this is a bit unnavoidable, and tried to counterbalance it by having the shining masterpiece songs (no heavens) before the solos. 

5. Of this speculative set list, I consider Setsugetsuka-Michibiki Hikari to be the first half, and Up Down Up-Welcome to Utapri Kingdom (just realised I wrote welcome to utapri world in the graphic but you get me) to be the second half. This doesnt matter too much, but it could be split this way across discs or have an interlude inbetween. There are less songs in the ‘second half’ but it does end up being around the same length when you consider we usually get about 2 20 minute talks at the end.

Explanations:

1. I didnt include Quartet Night songs for a few reasons. Mainly because they dont have any new ones released lately and there have already been two QN only lives with qnlf being the most recent main live since 6th stage. It’s certainly possible that they might include some repeats of older QN solos, but this set list is already at the same length and amount of songs as 6th stage, so it would add enough extra time to make 7th stage too long. 

2. Obviously I didnt include a Nagi solo because Wingu isn’t able to attend 7th stage. I assumed this would not affect other song selections and that they will likely have other members fill in for his parts in group songs.

3. I was unable to figure out which new set of solos for Heavens and Starish they would use. I didn’t decide the ones used for any particular reason, so I wouldn’t at all be surprised if different solos than I wrote are used. 

4. I used Setsugetsuka as the opener song, because I thought it would not only allow for special outfits to be worn by Starish and Quartet Night that could be chanegd after their introductions, but it also saved time (instead of having one starish song and one QN song, theyre combined). It’s not quite an exciting booming start to the live, but it is a very well loved song by the fandom that hasnt been performed yet, and the first few notes are very recognisable. I can also imagine it fading nicely into a Heavens group song  I’m not sure about this choice, but I couldnt quite shake the idea, so I kept it. Wouldn’t be surprised if they started with the same three group songs as Maji Love Kingdom though. 

5. In general, I tried to consider things like outfit changes, the time of each song, having a first and second half that can be split onto two discs for dvd/bluray release, and most importantly perhaps, not having the same seiyuu perform too many times in a row to avoid them getting too exhausted.

6.  I found it very hard to place Encore. Unlike a lot of the other Mamo songs, it isnt exactly a hype, exciting song to start off a live (after the initial group songs) but it also doesnt really work in the middle after the solos, or towards the end. Having the song be called ‘encore’ and being played during the credits of Maji Love Kingdom really give that vibe that it should be an encore song.

7. I don’t think they would want 4 Quartet Night+Starish joint songs without Heavens (as it would cause a bit of an imbalance) so I figure they might do either the Shining CD 2 songs or the upcoming Black/White songs that are released shortly before the live. For now I’ve gone with Wonder Rondo and Dancing Over Night because we dont know the length of the Black/White songs.

 “Things that would be cool but probably won’t happen”:

1. I placed Encore towards the start of my set list, but theres something that I would love to see, no matter where its placed. If the song starts with Mamo singing, as expected, until about 30 seconds in when slowly all other seiyuu would walk on stage and join in. This would allow the song to be used as an encore with all seiyuu, or just help build variety and excitement to an otherwise (albeit intense) but slower more emotional song. It also lines up well with the songs build itself as well as the MV that slowly includes more and more people. 

2. More special outfits for Setsugetsuka and the Shining Masterpiece songs and more special outfits/performances in general. I think this is the reason why previous performances like Koizakura and other Shining Theatre songs are so memorable.

3. Pretty sure this one is almost 100% not happening, but, I want Sawashiro Miyuki as a guest to sing Maigo no Kokoro, Haru’s solo song from the first season of the anime. It’s so often forgotten, but its a beautiful song. This would also serve as a nice interlude for the boys to have an outfit change or change staging etc. 

4. I feel like there should maybe be a third encore song, but I couldnt choose a good one. It feels odd to not have 1000% or 2000%, so a version of them with all three groups is possible. If they are going to have a new version of an older song, I feel like a Mirai Chizu would be a great choice. Not only does it suit an encore (emotionally and lyrically speaking), but they haven’t performed it since 1st stage, and I feel like it could work really well with all groups together. Or it could be some kind of new medley or song entirely. 

5. Of course, there are 3 big things we’d all like to see announced at 7th stage. These being: a 5th season of the anime or some kind of sequel, Dolce Vita news, and a large scale update to shining live (eg, adding Heavens.)

Stats of my set list:

1. The total song time of my set list is 2 hours and 20 minutes with an hour and a half of extra time including a shining dancers or other interlude, introduction video, talks, about 5-10 seconds inbetween songs, audience encore call, and goodbyes. 

2. The final time of this set list would be about 3 hours and 48 minutes. 

3. For the performance on the 18th for example, doors open at 2pm, and 7th stage begins at 4:30. With this set list, it seems like it would end at about 8:15-8:30pm which allows for enough time to exit the dome before 9:00pm.

4. There are 33 songs in this set list (one talk is incorrectly labeled as an extra song in the graphic) which is the same as 6th stage.

For anyone who’s gotten this far, thank you. This is literally essay length and I wrote it in 50 minutes. It was a lot of fun thinking up this set list, so I’m excited to see if im at all accurate, or 100% wrong. Either way I’m so excited to see the actual set list.

Part 5: Tumblr and Reddit (The Dark Side?)

Four weeks ago, I shared my descent into social media and my guiding philosophies for interacting on the internet. Three weeks ago, I discussed the generals about creating a website and starting a blog. Two weeks ago, I discussed Facebook, Twitter, and hashtags. Last week was all about the visual social medias, Pinterest and Instagram.

Today? I'll be discussing DARK SIDE OF THE INTERNET: Tumblr and Reddit

Or are they?

Tumblr and Reddit are given a lot of grief about being breeding grounds for social justice mobs, trolls, and dank memes (in which dank means something between dark, cynical, and cool).

For older web denizens: they're where the teens are, and honestly? where 90% of the Facebook content comes from. Look at where all those reshared thought experiments, story inspiration, and other screen-shots come from.

 A LOT of them are screenshots from Tumblr. 

Or made popular on Reddit. 

Or both. 

If you wait for them to come to Facebook, you're gonna miss a lot of content and it's gonna be old before you see it.

Tumblr

So what IS Tumblr? Is it a blog? Is it a quote sharing site? Or is it for reblogging memes? 

The quick answer is... yes. 

For the longest time, I didn't really know what I was doing with it. I reposted stuff from my Instagram since Tumblr seems to like pictures, and I reshared my blog posts from here over there. (Or over here, if you're reading on Tumblr...) 

But, it's just as much for resharing your favorite webcomics or your not-character-count-limited mental contemplations. And GIFs are super popular.

NOTE: It's also very popular for...um... archives of adult imagery. Luckily, safe-search is a thing. I've yet to end up somewhere I didn't intend. A big advantage to its compartmentalized set-up.

It's a social media network, like Facebook, that's not geared towards a specific media (unlike Instagram or Twitter), which can make it more visual, but it supports anonymity--which can make it more attractive to teens (or Russian troll farms). 

There's definitely a part of it that's socially progressive. Tumblr's the sort of place that encourages defining your pronouns and can be very accepting of any sort of identity that doesn't espouse hate.  That said, the admins are struggling with censorship issues around LGBT tags as well as antagonistic alt-right groups gaining a presence on the site. 

Tags are important here if you want people to find you. And if you look around, you can find Tumblrs groups to join (sort of like the 'blog hops' of olde...). The communities are like islands, but they share resources. 

If you like something, heart it. Reblogging stuff is VERY encouraged, and shows support for the original poster -- and also means that the original poster gets credit -- very awesome for the artists and writers and singers on here.

Note: If you add a comment to a reblog, it's now permanently attached to that reblog.

Like most social medias, you can follow people and their posts/reblogs show up on your feed. Don't be intimidated, most people are quite welcoming on Tumblr.

Reddit

Here, everything is a popularity contest. It's like middle school.

Getting Started

You create an account, you join forums called 'reddits' and 'subreddits' (or 'subs'), named /[whatever] that are organized by areas of interest, and then you either share text or links to content. 

On your feed, you're only shown links to reddits and subreddits that you subscribe to. Then, as people read posts, they 'upvote, 'downvote', or [do nothing]. 

Every upvote and downvote affects your karma. The more upvotes you get, the more likely you'll show up in the feed. 

You can check tabs of 'Hot', 'Rising', and 'New'. And karma means a lot.

What is Karma

You earn karma for:

posting

commenting

getting upvotes

Posting new content or sharing external links are typically seen as more valuable contributions, but it depends on the quality of your comments.

NOTE: When you comment, you can reply to other comments -- otherwise known as nested comments.

You lose more karma for every downvote. It's a way of trying to keep people from being jerk-faces. 

Unless the forum is about being a jerk-face. Then, friendly people get downvoted. 

Although there is an overlying sense of 'Reddiquette', each forum has its own admins, moderators, and set of acceptable behaviors. Overall, someone with higher karma is seen as being more of a contributor and potentially someone to watch for new, quality content. The best of them have been given Reddit Gold.

You can literally buy virtual gold that is only intended for rewarding, or 'gilding', OTHER people with posts you find valuable. Being gilded (or buying that status) temporarily unlocks:

WARNING: Reddit values anonymity, tends to be hands-off, and doesn't censor. There can be really dark reddits, and subreddits with a lot of either off-color or outright offensive content.

The communities are typically well-described though, so you know what you're getting into before you click the links.

Like most social medias, you can follow people and keep an eye on their content. So far, I've shared a little in /writing, /writing-tips, and /nosleep.

/AMA (Ask Me Anything) is one you'll see on the news on occasion, with scheduled visits for politicians or celebrities, as well as normal people with unusual experiences offering to talk about them. 

Feel free to explore. I find it best to wade into a Reddit, watching the expected behavior before trying to contribute. But I'm still learning my way around.

So, that’s the basics of Tumblr and Reddit, it’s not really that intimidating, is it?

A little different, but not completely unfamiliar organizational structures. 

Long form? Images? Links? These are the sites where content is created.

Once they've seen your advert, the great thing about advertising on most of us know that there is a chance that people will share it of their own free will.

There's quite easy sponsored post that appeared in my newsfeed while I was writing this post. Easy to make and very effective. Long content was working for years. Being that more and more people are should be buying blogs to skip the initial stages of a blog's life. Furthermore, flippa is already killing it. I also love the fact that someone aside from myself has picked up on the images. I always use fiverr and pay an illustrator 5 bucks for maybe 5 images to illustrate my blog posts.

It not only gives a definitely more unique look -you know that people will subconsciously understand that the article they have just read is of higher quality than most.

Better bet is a strong mailing list that you can use to launch your products and affiliate promotions.

You aren't up the creek must one dry up because Try to think about diversifying your income streams. Most of us are aware that there are tens of thousands of blog themes available for WordPress blogs. My only word of advice is to choose one that is updated regularly for holes in security as you do not need to get your blog hacked with a poorly designed template.

It's a nice little introduction. So, while working while standing up and taking regular short breaks to stretch the muscles and get the blood flowing, therefore this means we need to start moving regularly. There was a story on the news here just yesterday about a lady who has breast cancer started a blog to document the process and how much it had caught on and helped people. So, at identical time medically accurate and helpful, it may be of great use to people, I reckon if it's personal. Anyway, spend less time building a website and more time building the person behind the website. On p of this, in 2016 I believe bloggers will need to get their faces out there more. Now this increases trust and enables you to create new projects that aren't locked in to just one stale brand name.

For awhile article/content is definitely one that I've been trying out -does mean though that the percentage of articles posted is much much less, as it needs a big while to write out 6000 decent words content.

To always test small, never bet the farm, and make your concepts prove themselves with small wins before shoving major time and money at them. Then again, many do annoy me. I think I can confidently say that 100percent of the blogs I read are because of their content and not their backer, and I don't think I've ever clicked ‘back' because of what was by the copyright. Accordingly the first one reads. Actually, By the way I made my own 10 commandments on blogging. Now let me tell you something. While having started my first blog last year, I am not so knowledgeable on blogging. Though shall never start a blog post without a keyword in mind. That's interesting. I however think that keywords are an important part of your blog. Great post!

Thanks. You've got my attention gratitude. Also, new to you and look forward to figuring out where to even begin. Dare I say, it's all a bit scary daunting. Just launched a really new chalk enhanced paint line, know I seek for and need to start a blog and get engaged on my Facebook and website. Consequently, the major thing to remember here, however, is that we will see more competition for organic for ages being that more and more people are moving away from the old link building methods of the past in favor of a related content approach to SERP optimisation. To get those back links you're planning to have to get noticed first. Most products have things that are pretty much very similar. Anyways, each blog that you think of is already out there. Furthermore, so that's a big mistake I think. Remember, almost each post that you write was written before. I was intending to write the BEST back links but decided against it as there're a bunch of blogs in my niche that rank with a huge volume of crappy back links.

Better ranking sites are still the ones with back links.

If it's an one man show I don't outsource any content in general.

Seek for to grow an email for any longer being that you just can't trust Google for traffic. This is the case. It's only the mailing list that gives you a constant source of traffic, must something go wrong. I get plenty of traffic from Google I am a little over SERP optimisation. That's interesting. I don't have the patience required to be any good really the little things that make a difference. That said, I love using images but I hate being concerned about them slowing my load time on my site down.
