Hello! Sorry if the info is already in your blog somewhere and I missed it (ーー;) but I was wondering, for your AUs where Crocodile is Whitebeard's child, does WB still beat Crocodile when he's younger in the New World? Does Croc still want to take WB out at Marineford or something along those lines?? I recently discovered your blog and am so invested in your AUs your mind is incredible
Hehe, thank you!
I think so! It hasn't yet come up in any of the AUs where Crocodile is confirmed to be Whitebeard's child. (Since I often remix AUs/ spin different AUs from the same premise, it's a bit hard to keep track off what is what!)
In the Time Travelling Rocks AU, I assume that if Crocodile has his memories, then he should have known who he is clashing with, even if Whitebeard doesn't instantly recognize him. I'm not sure why he would challenge his father like that. Maybe he is resentful because he misunderstood what happened the day Rocks died/ disappeared? And if WB has a particularly bad day, he might not think much of crushing the dreams of a rookie, especially since he's one of those Warlorlds, not even a real pirate anymore. Or maybe Crocodile is a lot stronger and dangerous than WB initially assumed and he seriously injures him because of the danger he causes. I'm not sure he will recognize him for sure but WB will definitely go out of that battle unsettled by how familiar Crocodile's angry and betrayed eyes had been. The same shade as Rocks' eyes, with flecks of gold. Maybe once he realizes what that means Crocodile is long gone. (Probably picked up by the RA...) But if he does realize then that again leads to the problem of "why has he not reached out in the years since?"
I'm also brainstorming a fic I want to write (based on this artwork) where they both know who the other is but still fight and it's very bitter and heart-breaking for both of them (though maybe I'll soften the blow because I do have to leave them at a place where they can eventually recover. But Croc would most likely still want to take WB's head in Marineford *lol*)
So I guess in most AUs the fight happens in one way or another, just to varying degrees of them being aware of who the other is and how bad it'll hurt both of them X3

The Wild Robot - Surprisingly Violent
I finally got a chance to watch The Wild Robot yesterday, and it was...well...
Yes, that is Roz holding a SEVERED BIRD HEAD in the first screencap, after it was eaten by a wildcat. Within the first ten minutes of the movie, it made something very clear:
THE CIRCLE OF LIFE IS ALIVE AND WELL, AND WE ARE GOING TO SHOW YOU EVERY SINGLE PART OF IT. BUCKLE UP.
And I absolutely ADORED it. So much of kids media is sanitized, but not this one - they can't. The cycle of life and death, of eat or be eaten, is a HUGE part of the narrative structure. Roz growing beyond her programming (instincts/nature) to become the titular Wild Robot is all about her learning that life is a dangerous, ever-changing cycle of survival. It's not just tasks to complete - it's fighting to live another day. And sometimes, to make it to that day, someone else won't.
The art and design was gorgeous, especially the scenery - truly breathtaking. The movement of the camera in certain scenes, like Fink descending into his winter den, was gorgeous and clever. The characters were fun, although as my dad (retired wildlife studies professor) pointed out, there is no way all those species would have naturally ended up on an island - it was a good mix of North American & European animals. He also mentioned that the species of goose in the film was likely based off the European Brant goose (since they weren't Canadian or Emden (barnyard) geese).
Honestly, the only slightly negative thing I have to say is, I wasn't a fan of the pacing. It felt a bit off at times. But apparently the movies is very, VERY close to the book, so that might explain it. I haven't read the book yet, but it is on my holds list at work!
9.9 out of 10 movie for me. If you haven't seen it, it's coming back to theaters in a few weeks in the US! Or your library might have a DVD copy to check out. With the theater re-release, it might be a bit until it's picked up on streaming services (without the $20 rental fee). However you can see it, I highly recommend it!
Just prepare yourself for a mountain of on-screen animal & robot deaths - the bird head is just the beginning.

Star Trek Daemons
These choices are based on the newer movie series (AOS) featuring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Carl Urban, etc. I have only seen bits and pieces of the many previous Star Trek series, but I will use what little tidbits I have picked up to help with this selection. My choices are a mix of analysis matching (I like to use the Daemon Forum as a starting point) as well as thematic/plot things. Hope you like them! Please let me know what you think, and your own headcanons!
James Kirk - Indian blue Peafowl. Thematically, I think a peacock/peahen would tell us a lot about Jim and reflect his story arc very well. Peacocks are thought of to be vain, cocky, proud birds who strut around showing off. This seems like exactly what everyone thinks about Jim at first glance, the sort of air he gives off. But peacocks are much more than that, people just don’t realize it. I think that parallel works well since everyone starts by underestimating Jim to seeing past his showy-ness and growing to respect and appreciate him as their captain. Furthermore, peacocks are intelligent, bold, fearsome and very socially oriented. They can fly despite what people think, and they’ve been known to always perch just out of reach of predators. They’re loud and communicative, and will fight and defend what is theirs. They actually have spurs on the back of their feet. Mostly, peacocks are very social - they spend time in flocks or at least pairs, and Jim is a very social person who would do anything for his people, his crew. So mostly thematic reasons, but I think a peahen perched on the back of the captain chair would just really fit him.
Spock - Eurasian Lynx. To me Spock has always been a cat person in my mind: he just exudes the same aloof energy with hints of softness, playfulness and even sassy-ness in the right circumstances. However because he’s half Vulcan and they have that raw animosity and energy they work so hard to tame, I figured it would be a wildcat versus a domesticated one. Lynx’s are ambush predators and have been known to sit in trees and wait to drop on unsuspecting prey. This matches Spocks patience in planning and executing strategy. Lynx’s are solitary creatures, but are very good mothers to young - and while Spock is more of a loner, he cares deeply and passionately for those in his circle. Lynx are also found in all sorts of environments, making them adaptable and quick on their feet. Plus they have been known to hunt deer, showing their bravery and fierce power. Spock is also very technical and sassy and sarcastic when the mood strikes him, which just fits very well with a cat attitude in general. Personally, I like the image of an aloof Lynx at Spock’s side that betrays no emotion until they crack and go for the throat. (Additionally, Lynx’s are known for their tufted ears and I think that would be hilarious alongside Mr. Pointy-Ears himself.)
Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy - Canadian Goose. This one seems a bit odd, but just stick with me a moment. Geese are loud, bold, brash, hardy birds who are hard working, determined, and known for their short-fuse but deep care for others. It’s perfect for Bones. A goose migrates thousands of kilometres each year, and live largely in Canada through very cold temperatures. This makes them very hardy, and hard-working birds. Furthermore, geese - Canadian Geese especially - are known for their temper. They’re given a wide berth because they have clear boundaries and will loudly let you know when you even approach said lines in the sand. But under the abrasive defensiveness and loud protestation of the world, geese make incredible parents. They’re protective, defensive, and very loving to their children, or their flock, or their mate. Those they care about, they are a stalwart defender and provider, and will often immediately adopt any stray goslings that are a similar age to their own babies. Bones is crotchety and loud and stubborn and has a tendency to yell about anything and everything, but he’s determined and smart and a doctor - he cares for people and will fiercely protect those he claims as his. It’s an unusual choice, but once I thought of it I just can’t get rid of the idea.
Nyota Uhura - Steller’s Jay. Since these birds are a species of corvid, they sit among some of the cleverest bird species. Nyota is especially smart and aware of her surroundings, demonstrated by her ability to readily understand Spock’s techno-babble. Furthermore, the smarter an animal, the more mental stimulation and challenge they need, or they’ll get bored easily. Nyota seems like the hardworking type to constantly have something on the go. Steller’s Jays are very adaptable, and a little bit manipulative when they need to get something, which pairs well with Nyota’s drive and tenacity. Furthermore, Steller’s Jay is noted as being an accomplished mimic of both bird calls and other noises. This is a fun thematic parallel to Nyota’s unparalleled auditory and linguistic ability.
Hikaru Sulu - Monarch Butterfly. A lot of people would think that butterfly’s are delicate and emotionally sensitive people, but that is not true of monarchs. They have incredible migrating habits that indicate they are hardy and hard-working. And while they may be sensitive to and aware of their surroundings, they are not as emotionally delicate as they appear. These migrating habits are also rather specific, showing a value of control over things that thematically I like for a main pilot/Command division person. Monarchs are group oriented, and Sulu has a deep care for his crew and his family, thriving among others. While they’re not an aggressive creature, Monarchs are willing to take risks if the reward is worth it and are known for their “wander-lust” tendency to explore and adventure and try new things.
Pavel Chekov - Atlantic Puffin. Aside from being adorable, a puffin matches well with what I know of Chekov. Puffin are a more social bird and will have a good time in a group of any size, or even working on their own. They are also active and energetic, matching with Chekov’s youthful energy and constant work drive. While somewhat cautious in unusual scenarios, they are very proactive planners and are the kind to look before they leap - but they will take the leap. Puffins are dutiful and sensitive, and while Chekov is not shown to be some thin-skinned wreck, he is still very young and has some youthful optimism and outlook that leaves him a little more surprised by the jaded side of the universe. Mostly, I think a puffin is just very well suited to the young but hardy and capable man.
Montgomery “Scotty” Scott - Cairn Terrier. Terriers are smart, clever, stubborn, loud little dogs. They’re more independent than some other dogs, but are still very social. Terriers are very vocal about their thoughts and opinions, and are not afraid of putting others in their place and taking charge. Scotty is as sturdy as they come and is very good at what he does, equally willing and able to take over and run the ship engines as well as dive in after Jim in weird antics and crazy adventures. I picked a Cairn over another terrier type because Cairns are very curious and adventurous and are the perfect middle of the road terrier: not too stubborn, not too sensitive, not too independent, and not too daring. Scotty is the perfect mix of stubborn, sensitive, caring, independent, bold, brash, and cautious all rolled into one loyal, loud, eager terrier package.
*P.S I realize I have selected largely birds for this group, and it wasn’t intentional, I just found myself gravitating towards them. However, I have always equated birds with their wings and flying and freedom. I find birds are always a little more out going and adventurous and travel-hungry by nature, so I think finding a majority of birds on a space ship destined to travel the distant universe isn’t all too unrealistic.

⭐ for The Keep Going Song? Thanks! :)
(anh i would die for you)
Thank you for asking! I am going to be talking about the whole thing because it's fun, and because there's not really many ~secrets~ within the text to ramble about, just little fun snippets!
I'll do it under a cut because I will definitely ramble. Woohoo!
I came across The Keep Going Song (the song) after my Lookout 3 Companion Playlist (& my spotify discovery) introduced me to the Bengsons. The effect was almost instantaneous - it's the kind of warmth I try to encompass in everything I do, and for the next few days I had it on repeat as I worked. This was around the time I was finishing my Lookout script, and I had been toying with the idea of writing a Cornleyverse fic after absolutely devouring all 10 fics in the tag. What I knew was that I wanted it to be sweet, I wanted it to pull them all together, and I wanted it to be a progression. Despite only having seen the Goes Wrong Show, jumping into the fandom made me want to dimensionalize these characters and give them a story beyond everything that had already occured.
I also watched Christmas Carol before / during the writing process, but to date I have not watched Peter Pan or the full-length TPTGW. My prior knowledge comes from Wikipedia, the delightul amateur TPTGW production on YouTube, a friend's excellent transcription of the Haversham Manor script, and tumblr meta analysis. I think I did a reasonable enough job pretending I knew what I was doing.
Let's get going!
I knew off the top that it was going to be vignettes - they would give me room to spread the story over the long period of time it takes for a group of people to grow into something resembling a family. Like I said in the original author's note, there was supposed to be more of the early, snippy days - but I got so focused on making them kinder that I found I couldn't properly write a fight. In hindsight, it probably would have been easier if I tried writing that first, but, well. Once I realized that it was too late. The alphabet idea came later, once I had them all finished: I wanted to organize them somehow, but numbers felt too open, too infinite - closing the story on an organizational endpoint was just really satisfying.
a - Every good story needs a good beginning.
c - Starting with the end of Peter Pan is my sneaky way of slipping past the fact that I haven't seen the earlier shows! The Max and Sandra storyline is just so sweet, and I wanted to let it exist a little bit in between our jump from Peter Pan to Christmas Carol. This vignette came so easily when I wrote it and I love love love the feelings and the tentativity about the whole thing.
f - This was actually the last vignette I wrote. I realized I needed some front-end padding because otherwise my angst plot came rather abruptly, and what better way? At this point, too, I was trying to bring in POVs from each one of our characters, and when deciding on Trevor's POV I thought the exasperation-excitement combination would be an excellent choice. It turns out Trevor is my favourite to write, mostly because I can find his voice a lot easier than some of the others - and probably also because I hold a lot of fondness and nostalgia for stage crew work. Also, I wrote most of this one on a long evening walk in the notes app on my phone. Fun fact.
h - I did my original idea slam in a draft tumblr post, and this one just says "birthday party but one without all the drama of christmas carol". And what do you know, that's exactly what it is! I definitely took the birthday party (in CCGW as well as in this fic) as a kind of proof that they really do like each other, if they're doing things like this and if they want to do things like this - and that theme of okay, they want to be here formed the basis for this part. I think it's exceptionally sweet that Dennis came looking for friends and ended up finding, well, something. And I popped in a little MMNI reference with "one of the Janines" - Backwards Janine? Frontwards Janine? Original Janine? Who knows! It's one of them!
l - The thing about this plot is that it's actually one of the first ideas I had when dreaming up this fic, and I couldn't quite let it go. The point was, what if I somehow split them up? How can they get on when half the society is out of commission? And the most reasonable way I could find to actually get half of them out of commission was the car accident. To be honest, this one is mostly filler - it's also the second vignette I wrote, and it found its birth in the email drafts of my work laptop.
m - Trying to map out this little plotline without overdoing it might have been the most difficult part of this fic, and I'm still not 100% sure I succeeded. This is our explanation for the unease from the vignette above, and it took me 3 rewrites before I finally found something that settled in my brain. "Dennis gets chased by a goose" might be one of my favourite lines in the fic though.
Also, putting these letters right next to each other made me feel really clever for no reason.
n - My Jonathan perspective also took a few stutter-steps in its beginning, but this one ultimately came from the promo video's reveal that Robert and Dennis live together, and me playing with the continual idea of the remaining cast members being rather unmoored in their injured castmates' absence. Robert in particular because I love his character and I love making him Feel Things(TM) (fun hint: this will also be a small theme in the new cpds fic I have in the works!) and I want to see so much from this odd relationship between him and Dennis. Obviously they have to tolerate each other if they are willingly roommates - how far can I go with that? I love how this one turned out.
o - All I have to say about this one is that I still really love the sweetness between these two, and they deserve the world. Also, at some point during writing this I was really caught up with how striking Dave's face silhouette is (don't ask) so that ended up making it in somehow.
q - Girls' Night is SO important to me. After all the work they've done to make these gals friends I needed to capture it, and a pleasant night in just made a lot of sense. This one is the home of a few of my headcanons - Annie has a chef roommate and Max does a lot of the cooking, thus the "neither of us are the usual household cooks" comments, and I also think they're at the point where they can joke about their previous failures (especially with these three together) so the nod to A Trial To Watch (my favourite gws episode) was so fun. Also, Waking Ned really is a silly pick-me-up of a movie - would recommend. Special thanks to CBC for giving us Canadians quality British TV alongside our occasionally questionable homegrown programming.
r - It wouldn't be a fic about progress and growth with this crew without a disheartening moment turned into gold. I wrote this one while barbecuing, another fun fact, and no joke the hardest part was figuring out what to name the play they were doing. I kept pace with the whole "Jonathan can't get onscreen" gag, which was personally hilarious and made me cackle as I wrote it, and the rest of it just felt good. I will always have a soft spot for comfort and reassurance in a story and getting to write it has just been an absolute delight.
t - This was one of my other unplanned vignettes. It was originally to fill out Robert's POV, but also to express a bit of how things have changed in Chris's attitude towards his cast - if there's one thing I would change from Mischief's characerisation thus far, it's this brand of almost-kindness that I consistently need to write him with. It takes the aftermath of the car accident and uses it to kind of make him understand - this is a valuable group of people and I don't want to lose it. But of course he's not the type of person to actually express that in any way, so I thought the frenetic hovering was a good way to get the point across. As well, the kind-of-bonding between Chris and Robert - the two of them are such powerhouses of insistent personality that conflict so easily but they've also got a more secret kind of friendship that deserves to be explored a little more. I really like this vignette and how it ended up portraying how they are around each other, how they really do know each other, especially when they're not fighting. Makes me soft.
w - This is the first vignette I wrote! I honestly didn't realize until writing this just how much I identify with Annie - best of both worlds re. crew and cast, a bit of tenacity regarding getting through things, overall personality - I just love her so so much. She also seems like the most sensible of the cast, so the collective "why are we really here?" moment with Trevor really spoke to me. I love their friendship, I love the kind of quiet vibe this vignette gives off - this is one of the ones I can feel most strongly, the one I can step into and exist inside. I also spent most of my old drama rehearsals and classes without shoes, so that had to make it in just by virtue of the sock brigade (me).
z - One thing I knew for sure since the inception of the fic was that it needed to end on a victory. I took the images I had of this victorious adrenaline, everyone together having a good time, kind of getting smashed, and karaoke (I really wanted the karaoke, for some reason) and went the obvious route: the wedding. Ending on Chris POV also felt so right - possibly because he's the one with the most growth in this fic - and getting to finally feel this triumph with him after all these other trials and tribulations was an absolute joy. The wedding hall, in my head, looks like the one my cousin used (it was at a zoo... my sister and I went on a night walk and heard a lot of screaming peacocks) and I definitely threw all my wistfulness, all my love for the characters I'd developed, and all my love for this fantastic fandom into this part. The incorrect lyrics that Annie sings are exactly what I think every time I hear that song, because I've never looked up the lyrics before and my brain likes to play Mad Libs with my super-questionable auditory processing. And the image of the ballroom staff getting really exasperated with them and shutting all the lights off came to me at night and is hastily scribbled on a sticky note (it's a wonder it's legible) but I still strongly believe that it's the perfect, perfect way to end. I still get the warm feelings when I reread this part, even now, after so many reads.
And, finally - our end quote is exactly what started this whole thing. What is this drama society if not a rough beginning? But the concept that we'll make it through, that we can just take a step and then another and it'll be okay because we're together... it's hard to describe just how much it means to me, to my place in the world, to the world itself. I think one of my rather consistent aims in writing, no matter what it is, is to be able to have this collective - characters that become family, people that are important to each other, this constellation to lean on - because it's all I can say for the human experience. It's probably quite a bit of wishful thinking (as I said to another friend, "I am apparently letting loose on all my repressed social feelings of the past year and shoving them into fics") and a sort of subconscious confirmation that if I write it, I can be it. So this force of understanding and kindness and ultimately good people helping each other through the world is something I can't help but include, something that means the absolute world to me.
I'm so glad to have been able to share this fic with everyone, and extra glad that it's been able to touch some people along the way. I've found such an incredible community in Mischief and coincidentally I think The Keep Going Song represents that warmth, too - the community I've been so lucky to exist inside, how we're helping each other along, step by step. What a beautiful thing to be a part of! Thank you for reading and allowing me to give you a bit of my heart. 💖💖

Thanks for the tag @reicchel
Three ships:
Giyu x Tengen x the wives. I just think they're neat.

Zenitsu x Nezuko. Honestly, I could have named several other Zenitsu ships here but I think these two are cute.
First ship ever: I'm pretty sure it was Matt and Sora from Digimon
Last song: Patient Is the Night (from the Over the Garden Wall soundtrack, ft. Chris Isaak)
Last movie: The Meg 2, in theaters.
Currently reading: Ink and Bone by Lisa Unger. I haven't decided if I like it yet...
Currently watching: rewatching Demon Slayer (almost done with S1), rewatching the X-Files, and rewatching Hill House. I don't think I have any current shows I'm keeping up with at the moment?
Currently consuming: food-wise, Panera mac and cheese.
Currently craving: I want a taro bubble tea so badly but I don't want to leave my house :/

This retired scientist is campaigning for Canada to choose a national bird
A retired ornithologist, aptly named David Bird, believes Canada needs a national bird and he’s lobbying federal ministers to name one.
He’s got a special bird in mind, of course. Bird says the ideal candidate is the Canada jay, also known as the whisky jack.
Beyond having “Canada” in its name, these hardy songbirds are found in every province and territory. They are perhaps best known for landing on the heads or outstretched hands of birdwatchers. A member of the jay and crow family, the whisky jack is arguably one of “the smartest birds on the planet,” says Bird.
The idea first struck him in 2009. South of the border, Americans take great pride in the majestic bald eagle, but while Canada boasts prominent national symbols like the beaver and maple leaf, it’s never named a national bird.
On June 9, all 338 federal MPs — including Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault and Heritage Minister Pablo Rodriguez — were given an 80-page book chock full of pictures of the friendly grey birds and reasons why Canada should adopt this distinctive creature as our national bird.
One of the pictures captures Bird’s favourite encounter with a whisky jack. With the little bird perched on his palm in light snowfall, “the look on my face was almost beatific,” he recounts.
He sees that same look of bliss and excitement on the faces of folks who submit pictures of their encounters with the bird.
“That’s what these birds do to you,” he says. “They’re so friendly and trusting and curious… There’s no other bird that does that with Canadians.”
The Canada jay’s range almost mimics Canada’s borders, and they actually depend on the cold Canadian winters to store their food, says Bird.
“They have sticky spit, and they stick seeds and fungi and other tasty berries and other tasty food items underneath the bark of trees above the snowline,” he explains. These clever birds also remember exactly where their food stashes are hiding.
Another reason Bird says the Canada jay deserves to be the national bird is that the commonly used moniker, “whisky jack,” is derived from words in the Algonquian family of Indigenous languages.
Story continues
In 2016, the whisky jack soared to victory in a contest hosted by the Royal Canadian Geographic Society to name a national bird. It beat out the snowy owl, black-capped chickadee, iconic common loon and infamous Canada goose.
Over 50,000 Canadians cast a ballot, and though the whisky jack came in third place behind the common loon and snowy owl, it was ultimately chosen because the loon and snowy owl are already Ontario’s and Quebec’s official birds, respectively.
Bird doesn’t expect the federal government to declare a national bird overnight — there are plenty of issues on the go like COVID-19 and the war in Ukraine — but hopes to see it happen in a year or so.
“I think Canadians deserve some light news and good news,” he says.
“These birds are incredibly intelligent. They’re loyal, they’re tough and friendly. You couldn’t find a more Canadian bird.”
