Slow Damage: Clean Dishes Epilogue 4, 5 & 6 Summary

It has been a while! I summarized the first three epilogues some time ago, but because I’ve been very busy I haven’t had much time lately to summarize the remaining three epilogues. Unlike the first ones, the other three are less dark and focus on the main characters spending time together and having fun. I thought it would be a good idea to write a few shorter summaries and combine them into one blog post.

Epilogue 4 It has been two years since the Hare’s Nest Incident. Shiro realizes it's Baku's birthday, but isn't sure how to celebrate it this year. Last year he bought him a birthday cake and they watched movies together, but this year he wants to do something more special. Baku however, doesn't care much about his own birthday and even forgets about it every year. This year is no different and Baku once again doesn't seem to care much, so Shiro decides to visit Roost. Shiro asks Kotarou, Mayu and Eiji birthday gift advice, but Mayu just mentions that he’s happy with merchandise of his favorite anime. Kotarou mentions liking alcohol and accessories, and Eiji, well… says that he’s fine with receiving anything he likes, so in the end Shiro’s still wondering what he should give to Baku...

He ends up taking him to Krishna (the restaurant you also visit in the main game) because they sell a lot of different kinds of beer, which Baku likes. After enjoying their food and drinks there together, they return home and Shiro gives Baku a book, featuring many illustrations by an artist Baku mentioned liking before. The game often hints that Baku is interested in art, but he usually looks at it online and doesn't usually buy things for himself. Shiro ends up telling him he asked Eiji and the others for advice, as he sometimes still doesn't know how to make people happy. In the past, he only used his body to make people happy, but now he's also trying to find other ways. As expected, Baku laughs and mentions how Shiro doesn’t really need to do anything special. Just being with Shiro is enough, but he’s happy that Shiro wanted to do something special for him.

Epilogue 5 Two years have passed since the Hare’s Nest Incident, and Shiro and Baku started living together. Before they started dating, Shiro hooked up with random men and didn’t return to his apartment often. Baku had been to his apartment once before, and said it looked more like a garbage storage room than a place where someone lived. After Shiro moved in with him, they slowly started learning more about each other’s hobbies. For example, Baku is interested in various art forms, such as special effect make-up and sculptures. Shiro likes collecting clothes and small, cute items. Shiro also likes singing, and Baku noticed he’s quite good at it too. While drinking coffee at a cafe one day, Baku suggests that Shiro could maybe even start his own band if he's interested. Shiro replies that he only wants to do it if Baku joins too, even though he has no experience playing an instrument. Shiro then suggests Ruu and Kimika also join his new band and invites them over. By the way, Kimika seems to have blonde hair again in this epilogue, but in the drama CD Ruu mentions he liked the blonde hair, so maybe he dyed it again? Anyway, seems like at least Kimika has some experience playing the guitar, but Ruu also has no experience. Shiro suggests they learn how to play an instrument and Ruu becomes the drummer and Baku the bassist. And that’s how their band activities started...

With the help of Kimika and Shiro, Baku and Ruu eventually learn some basic skills how to play these instruments. Eventually, they decide that they finally want to play some songs in front of an audience, but Shiro realizes he doesn’t really have any other friends he could invite… Luckily, Kimika suggests contacting the Roost manager, and maybe they could play some songs in front of the customers there.

Some weeks later, it's the day of the concert. They all bought some new outfits and Kimika also offers to do everyone's makeup. The concert ends up becoming quite the success and more than 30 people showed up. Eiji, Kotarou and Mayu are also impressed and share their positive feedback with the group.

I have to admit... that this is absolutely not what I expected to happen after the game’s ending, but it's quite interesting to learn more about their hobbies (?). They do mention that the concert is a one-time only kind of thing, but everyone did enjoy the experience, so who knows!

Epilogue 6 It has been six months since Kimika was released from prison, and all four of them continued woking at Sara-ya. With the death of the Takasato-gumi boss and many other incidents, Shinkoumi was in a state of chaos for a while, but things are slowly calming down. During one of their lunch breaks, the four of them started discussing the topic of vacation. It seems like Shiro and Baku usually stay indoors during summer, but Kimika and Ruu really want to travel to the mainland to visit the beach there. Baku and Shiro agree to join, even though Shiro has never been to the mainland before and Baku hasn’t been back there since he was a kid.

A month later, they finally prepare for their trip. Baku is a bit worried about Shiro because he has never left Shinkoumi before. After a one hour flight and a bus ride, they finally arrive at the inn where they will be staying for the next four days. They decide to drop off their luggage and then meet up with Ruu and Kimika near the beach. Shiro feels a little bit dizzy because of the heat, but he ends up having a great time playing in the water together with the others. They spend the next couple of days visiting shrines, climbing a mountain and all kinds of other activities they had never done before. This epilogue is probably the most light-hearted one of them all...! But it is nice seeing them have fun together.

At the end of their trip, Shiro starts teasing Ruu and Kimika again, wanting to know what kind of relationship they have now. Ruu claims there’s nothing going on and Kimika doesn't reply (those who listened to the drama CD know that’s a lie…). He then changes the topic and says he heard Baku and Shiro doing inappropriate things in the open-air bath. Both of them just nod "ah you found out..." and then the bus arrives to take them back to the airport. After that they return to Shinkoumi and the game mentions that this is the end of Clean Dishes's story for now. Shiro thinks that until Baku finally kills him, their life won't change much in the future.

And that's the end! Not much to say about some of these because they are pretty short, but I am always happy to see Kimika and Ruu in these epilogues too. Of course there's also the drama CD content, which kind of takes place in-between some of these epilogues. Right now I don't have any plans of summarizing/translating it, but maybe someone will do this in the future. By the way, all three of these epilogues have a new r18 scene, so I suggest buying them if you want to see them! I'm not able to upload these anywhere.

La limpieza finalmente terminó, y Ruu exhaló un comentario de cansancio junto con un suspiro.

Kimika: “Esta vez fue… como decirlo… más difícil de lo habitual, mentalmente”

Kimika: “¿¡Ja~!? ¡No puede ser! ¡Entonces todos los estilistas del mundo serían culpables!”

Kimika: “Para empezar, es sólo porque "Hare's Nest" suena como a peluquero, ¿no?!”

Ruu: “(*risa*) Bueno, sí. Estoy bromeando. Como estás tan exhausto, pensé en animar las cosas”

Kimika: “¡No estoy nada emocionado! ¡Más bien, la tensión bajó!”

Junto a ellos dos que bromeaban, busqué a Shiro.

Shiro estaba mirando algo fijamente otra vez. Últimamente, esta tendencia se está dando mucho después del trabajo. Quiere decir que…

(*sonido de pasos*)

Baku: “…Oye, Shiro”

Teniendo un mal presentimiento, me acerqué al lado de Shiro.

En el estante donde Shiro miraba… había una figura de conejo.

La figura estaba manchada de rojo y negro, y un papel, también teñido de rojo, estaba metido debajo.

Parece una nota escrita a mano, pero no veo muy bien lo que está escrito.

Caminé hacia el estante y extendí la mano para agarrar la nota.

En ese momento se escuchó un ruido, y un olor como de algo quemándose recorrió el aire.

Slow Damage: Clean Dishes Epilogue 2 Summary

It has been a while, but the Clean Dishes drama CD was finally released earlier this month! I really liked it, so I decided to play some more of the epilogues. This one focuses on the relationship between Ruu and Kimika. Be aware that it does spoil the game's good ending.

This story takes place after the Hare’s Nest incident in which Kimika kidnapped Shiro and tried to use a bomb to kill both of them, believing that death was the only answer. Baku saved Shiro and Kimika was arrested. Shortly after this arrest, Ruu had trouble believing that the culprit was Kimika, but somewhere deep in his heart he knew it was really him. Even though Kimika usually smiled brightly, a tremendous darkness was hidden behind that smile.

"I wish I had realized sooner..."

The epilogue then skips to a flashback. Back then, Ruu worked for a car repair shop. While working there, he often came into contact with a man he absolutely despised, who would purposely torment the weak for his own entertainment. Because of his connections, he was never punished for his actions. One day when he witnessed one of his coworkers being harassed in the bathrooms, Ruu couldn’t handle it anymore and punched this man in the face. The man was not seriously injured, but as a result of this Ruu lost his job. He didn't regret punching the man, but he couldn't accept that he got fired for defending his coworker.

"At that time, I came across a recruitment ad online, from Sara-ya.”

At first, Ruu was a bit confused what exactly they meant with 'cleaning a room a person died in'. The location of the company was also not ideal, Shinkoumi is a place notorious for being unsafe. Of course, he could have picked a different job, but for some reason he decided to send an email to them. The work at Sara-ya was exactly what he expected, and it took some time getting used to it. However, in terms of human relationships, everyone was friendly and comfortable with each other.

"After a long time, when I was no longer called a rookie, I decided to team up with Kimika."

"I don't mean this in a strange way, but as a work partner and a human being, I liked Kimika."

Kimika was a cheerful, fun-loving person, who also had a serious side when they were working together. They would often meet up before and after work too, to talk and to eat together. Kimika used to be a hairdresser before he joined Sara-ya and mentioned that he enjoyed making people beautiful, almost as if a person is 'reborn' after getting a new haircut. Kimika mentioned that he wished he could be reborn too, but back then Ruu did not really understand the meaning of these words. Looking back at it now, Ruu realizes that there were so many hints that something was not right...

Some time after this, Kimika called him in the middle of the night. At first, Ruu thought someone called the wrong number, but after listening closely he realized it was Kimika's voice, wishing for his own death. After this, Ruu learned that Kimika was taken to the hospital after overdosing on sleeping pills. Ruu realizes that Kimika probably called him as a final cry for help.

The story then switches to Kimika's perspective. A bright and cheerful person, that is how people would describe him, which was not wrong, because that is what he pretended to be. Of course, it was not all lies, Kimika truly wished he could be happy. He grew up with three older sisters who were all very beautiful and talented. Compared to them, Kimika was a very ordinary person. Because his sisters were always praised, they were never punished when they used Kimika as a slave or toy, even sexually assaulting him sometimes. Back then Kimika didn't know it was bad, he was just happy that they would spend any time with him.

When he was 11 years old, his oldest sister vanished. A month later, her body was found in the mountains. A suicide note was found near her body, apologizing for not being able to meet her parents' expectations. One year later, his second sister passed away after repeatedly overdosing on sleeping pills. Kimika's family stopped talking to each other, unable to deal with the situation. Shortly after this, the third sister also disappeared. The police eventually found her alive, however, she seemed like a completely different person after joining a religious group. She didn't talk to her parents and brother anymore and locked herself up in her room every day. One day, she texted Kimika to come to her room.

"When I entered the room, my sister was standing on a chair with a belt around her neck, tied to the curtain rod."

She smiled and asked Kimika to remove the chair, explaining that she wanted to die so she could be reborn. Kimika, unable to deny her wish, did what his sister wanted. Kimika started wondering what would happen after death and if they would really be reborn. His sisters were very talented and had no other reason to die, so he assumed it must be true.

"Just like the other two, I wonder if death isn't something they fear, but something they yearn for. If possible, I want to be reborn too."

After graduating high school, he studied to become a hairdresser and eventually moved to Shinkoumi, mostly because he wanted to get away from his parents' house. Shinkoumi was a place where nobody would come after him. Even though he tried to distance himself from his past, he always felt like he couldn't truly be happy. Being alone made him very uncomfortable, so he would often stay with (sex) friends or even strangers. One day one of his friends half-jokingly sent him the Sara-ya recruitment ad, but Kimika, still obsessed with the concept of people taking their own lives, became interested in the job. This is where he met Ruu, and later Shiro and Baku. He was a bit excited to meet someone like Shiro who also wanted to die. Kimika also wanted to openly talk about death like Shiro did, so he decided to create a social media account. Before he knew it, he made many friends online who all shared the same mindset as him, agreeing death is the only way to escape from suffering. This is when Hare's Nest was created.

Members of Hare’s Nest focused on overcoming their fear of death and would usually report their daily accomplishments. Kimika tried to do the same and was proud of his group members. Eventually, the first individuals in the group started taking their own lives. Until then, Hare's Nest was mostly a private group, but after the first two suicides it started attracting attention online. After that, the number of deaths gradually increased and the criticism from outside groups grew. At that time, Kimika thought death was the only way to end suffering and didn’t understand what he was doing wrong. He also realized that Shiro joined the group and was surprised when he openly shared these details with him. Kimika decided that it must be fate, finally he would be able to die together with someone.

After that it switches back to Ruu's perspective. Shortly after the Hare's Nest incident, Kimika was sentenced to two years in prison. The sentence was shorter than expected because there was no evidence of intimidation or a detailed planning of the attack. Another reason for this was probably because Kimika's lawyer worked for the Takasato-gumi. It was Eiji who introduced them to each other. Ruu frequently visited Kimika in prison, but during the first visits Kimika did not look him in the eye and barely spoke to him. He didn't understand why Ruu kept visiting him, after all he was a criminal who encouraged people to take their lives and who almost killed one of their friends. He also didn’t understand why Ruu still cared about him, they were only work partners after all. To Ruu however, Kimika was never just a work partner, but someone he genuinely considered a friend. Ruu regrets not noticing Kimika's loneliness and still wants to be with Kimika after he gets released from prison. Kimika still has a hard time trusting others because of his childhood, but somewhere deep in his heart he wants to trust him. Ruu hopes that some day, him and Kimika will be able to laugh together again, just like they used to.

Some extra notes

The name of the group is simply called Hare’s Nest because Kimika has a pet rabbit.

His username online is Himalaya, referring to the Himalayan rabbit, said to be the oldest rabbit breed. His own rabbit is also a Himalayan rabbit.

Members of Hare’s Nest calls themselves ‘leveret’, a term used to describe a young hare. If you’ve read the Clean Dishes manga you probably also know it’s the name of the manga…!

The drama CD is a continuation of this, so definitely listen to that if you can! Especially if you like Ruu and Kimima as a pairing. ;)

De repente, la habitación se incendió y corrimos afuera.

Afortunadamente no se produjo ninguna otra explosión después, pero los alrededores del condominio se llenaron de humo y olor a quemado, causando un gran revuelo.

Ninguno de nosotros resultó herido y estuvimos observando todo desde fuera del condominio hasta que se extinguió el fuego.

Eiji: “¿Oh? ¿Baku-san y Shiro-san?”

De repente me llamaron y me di la vuelta. Fue Eiji quien apareció abriéndose paso entre la multitud ruidosa.

Eiji: “Vine porque oí que había un incendio cerca…”

Eiji: “¿Baku-san y Shiro-san también estaban por aquí?”

Baku: “Más bien, en el lugar. La habitación que limpiamos se quemó”

Llevando a Shiro, que dijo que podía ir a trabajar, nos dirigimos a la oficina, arrastrando una atmósfera incómoda.

No hubo ninguna conversación con Shiro en el camino.

En la oficina estaban Ruu, Kimika y Eiji.

Eiji: “Chicos, a pesar de que hubo un incendio hace un rato… lamento que haya sido tan repentino”

Después de hacer una reverencia frente a los cuatro, Eiji abre la boca como para reformarse.

Eiji: “La verdad es que… el inquilino de una propiedad alquilada del grupo Takasato estaba atrasado con el pago, por lo que le pedimos que se fuera de inmediato”

Eiji: “Esa persona murió, y fue una forma de morir bastante espectacular”

Eiji: “Pero ya se decidió quién será el próximo inquilino y la fecha de mudanza está cerca, así que tenemos que limpiarla de inmediato…”

Baku: “Me preocupa lo de "espectacular"”

Kimika se tapa la boca con una mano y mira alrededor de la habitación.

Baku: “Debe haberse cortado la arteria carótida”

Ruu: “Eso significa que era un cuchillo de cocina, un cuchillo grande. Y otra vez es una adolescente. Hizo algo drástico…”

Kimika: “Hii~”

Después de llevar a Shiro y volver a mi habitación, noté que había llegado una solicitud de trabajo a mi teléfono celular.

Cuando fui a la oficina después de terminar un desayuno ligero, la oficinista me dijo que Kimika y Ruu fueron al sitio primero.

Arrastrando a un Shiro todavía somnoliento, nos dirigimos también al destino del trabajo de hoy.

Kimika: “¡Buenos días! ¡El dueño de la habitación de hoy es un asalariado de unos 50 años que se suicidó porque no podía pagar su deuda!”

Tan pronto como abrí la puerta principal, fuimos recibidos por Kimika que estaba esperando.

Ruu: “Va a ser bastante sorprendente”

Ruu, que estaba parado al lado de Kimika, frunció el ceño y señaló detrás de él con la barbilla.

Eiji: “Hola, siento molestar tan de repente”

Kimika: “Ah, es Eiji-san. ¿Pasa algo?”

Eiji: “Sí, un poco. El dueño de esta habitación no estaba bajo nuestra jurisdicción, pero parece que otros tipos lo habían acorralado demasiado”

Eiji: “Me sentí mal por los *lava platos* porque se ensució bastante, así que limpié el 'adorno' primero”

(*no es lo que significa 'Sara-ya', pero por lo de "Clean dishes" me gusta más así 😊)

El "adorno"… Lo que Eiji está diciendo es sobre el cuerpo.

Kimika frunció el ceño mientras miraba hacia la puerta principal, por la que Eiji se fue.

Kimika: “No está bajo la jurisdicción de Eiji-san, pero en resumen, lo de esta habitación lo hizo el grupo Takasato, ¿no? Ahh, qué miedo”

Ruu: “Bueno, sin importar quién haya hecho qué o después, nuestro trabajo es limpiar”

Kimika asintió ante las palabras de Ruu.

Kimika: “Pues entonces, ¡vamos a terminarlo rápido!”

Slow Damage: Clean dishes | Prólogo④ - Capítulo 4 (Español)

Después de eso, recibí una llamada de trabajo, así que nos dirigimos a la oficina.

Esta vez Kimika y Ruu también habían ido al sitio primero, así que los seguimos inmediatamente.

Kimika: “¡Hola, bienvenidos! ¡Otra vez, es la habitación de una adolescente! Y encima… ¡son dos!”

Cuando llegué a la puerta principal de la habitación donde íbamos a trabajar, Kimika levantó dos dedos en un movimiento exagerado.

Baku: “¿Dos? ¿Hermanas?”

Ruu: “Aparentemente no. Parece un suicidio con un amigo”

Ruu dijo eso con una expresión complicada y se paró al lado de Kimika.

Otro suicidio adolescente. Y encima, esta vez son dos.

(*sonido de pasos*)

Al entrar en la sala de estar, Shiro y yo nos detuvimos.

Un espectáculo extraño se extendía por allí.

Las paredes, el techo y el suelo de la habitación están repletos con lo que parecen círculos mágicos y hechizos escritos con pintura roja…

En medio de la alfombra colocada en el centro, hay restos de velas derretidas. La alfombra también parece estar un poco quemada.

Otros objetos como huesos de vaca, serpientes y modelos de cuerpos humanos están decorados, y se puede ver que tenía inclinación por la brujería, los demonios y cosas por el estilo.

Kimika: “Es peligroso, ¿no? Es peligroso, ¿verdad? Siento que seré maldecido solo por estar aquí…”

Ruu: “No me había encontrado con una habitación como esta hasta ahora”

Como dicen Kimika y Ruu, era diferente de la habitación sucia habitual.

Kimika: “Se podría decir que es un lugar encantado, ¿no?…”

Shiro: “……”

Shiro está mirando el estado la habitación sin expresión.

El Shiro de siempre habría dicho algo, pero puede que la tensión esté baja por lo que pasó en la mañana.

De todos modos, ¿qué es lo que está escrito?

Cuando entrecerré los ojos ante las letras parecidas a sangre que bailaban en la pared, encontré una palabra que apenas podía leer.

Himalaya.

Solo esas letras parecen estar escritas en grande.

Lo único con lo que lo puedo asociar es una cordillera. Me pregunto si está escrito con palabras random pretendiendo ser un hechizo.

La limpieza terminó y ya era hora de regresar.

Estaba preocupado por el estado de Shiro en el trabajo.

Parecía estar algo distraído, como si su corazón no estuviera aquí.

Kimika también debió haber notado esto, y hablaba con Shiro constantemente.

Kimika: “Shiro, dijiste que te gustaban los conejos, ¿no? Mira esto. El conejo que tengo. Como estaba ayer”

Kimika: “Mira, mira, voltea su trasero redondo hacia mí, es una lindura, ¿verdad?”

Shiro: “…Es verdad. Es lindo”

Kimika: “Cuando lo sostienes con ambas manos, es tan suave y esponjoso. Quieres protegerlo porque piensas que es tan indefenso”

Kimika: “Me gustaría dejar que Shiro lo toque la próxima vez”

Shiro: “Quiero tocarlo”

Mientras escuchaba la conversación entre los dos, Ruu vino hacia mí y abrió la boca en voz baja.

Ruu: “Esos dos se llevan bastante bien, ¿no?”

Baku: “Sí, bueno”

Ruu: “Quiero decir, siento que a Kimika le agrada Shiro. Tal vez quiere cuidar de él. Tú también, ¿no?”

Baku: “¿Qué?”

Ruu: “Shiro. ¿No es por eso que están saliendo? No puedes dejarlo solo, ¿verdad”

Baku: “…… Sí, bueno, también está eso. Pero no es solo por eso”

Ruu: “Ya veo. Entonces, protégelo bien”

Ruu me dio unas palmaditas en el hombro mientras reía.

Proteger a Shiro. Cuando escuché eso, tuve una extraña sensación de incomodidad.

Simplemente no quiero dejar que Shiro muera. Si dijeran que es para protegerlo, puede que sea así.

Vivo para no dejar que Shiro muera, y Shiro no morirá porque estoy aquí.

Tenemos ese tipo de relación, pero no me voy a molestar en explicarla.

Basta con que nosotros mismos la entendamos.

Pensando así, me quedé mirando a Shiro en silencio.

Slow Damage: Clean Dishes Epilogue 3 Summary

I finally purchased some of the epilogues and I’m really enjoying them so far! Be aware that they take place after the game’s good end, so if you haven’t played yet I recommend reading my other blog posts first which summarize the game’s plot and endings. The first one I read was Epilogue 3 because I wanted to know more about Shiro’s backstory, but you can read them in any order you want.

There’s some dark content in these epilogues too so please check Slow Damage’s content warnings if there’s something you might not want to see. Also English isn’t my first language so I apologize for any mistakes.

This epilogue starts with a flashback explaining Shiro’s past. Before he and Baku started dating, Baku couldn’t control his anger and would often pick fights with people. One day Shiro also happens to be there and he starts strangling him. 

After this, Shiro thinks about his past. When he was a child, Shiro used to live with his mother who worked as a prostitute. She was very beautiful and gave birth to him when she was very young. He never met his father, but thinks he is probably one of his mother’s customers. Shiro believed his mom was a good person who would never let her customers touch him, although she sometimes got really angry at him. He never went to school because they didn’t have a lot of money, so he spent most of his childhood in a small apartment room. The walls were thin and he could hear every detail of what his mom and her customers were doing. One day, a regular customer punches her and breaks her nose, destroying the pretty face she used to be proud of. 

‘‘One day, a regular customer my mom secretly disliked came in and he was in a very bad mood. He started hitting her.’‘

After this incident her attitude permanently changed, her behavior towards Shiro slowly became more and more abusive. Shortly after this Shiro ends up in a hospital as a result of this. Even though he still didn’t hate his mother, he moved to a facility for children whose parents cannot take care of them anymore. In this facility, he was very lonely. There were many children who were the same age as him, but he didn’t know how to make friends. Many of them were also aggressive or had a bad attitude. 

‘‘I couldn’t even think of making friends with someone.’‘

Shiro felt very lonely and scared, but he remembered what his mother used to do, so he also invited people over to sleep with him. Some time after this the staff members realized what he was doing and isolated him. They were still children back then (about 13 years old) so they could not accept this. Shiro immediately left the facility after this and started looking for people to sleep with somewhere else.Eventually, he started living with a man who seemed interested in him. 

‘‘The man seemed quite old, I stayed at his house for some time.’‘

This man mostly used him for sex and other selfish desires, but Shiro didn’t care, he just wanted to live with someone who cared about him in some way or another. Unfortunately after a few months this man was murdered by one of the gangs and Shiro found his dead body. This is when he developed his obsession with death. He thought it was interesting how a living being could turn into just an ‘object’.

‘‘In this town, it is not uncommon to find corpses lying around in the alleyways.’‘

After Shiro met Baku, he stopped sleeping with other men because he finally found someone who was able to love him. Baku doesn’t want to kill Shiro, but Shiro wants to be killed by someone who’s very dear to him.

‘’This is the best way to die, which is why I will never leave Baku’s side.’’

Two years have passed since the Hare’s Nest incident. Shiro and Baku are still working for Sara-ya. Kimika went to prison and Ruu visits him occasionally, Baku and Shiro also join him sometimes. Last time they saw Kimika he looked very thin and he didn’t have the bright expression he used to have. He only talks when him and Ruu are alone, but when anyone else is there, he stays quiet. Baku isn’t sure what to think about this, because he cannot forgive Kimika for kidnapping Shiro, but he also acknowledges that all of them had difficult pasts and did things they now regret. Shiro also kind of blames himself, because it was him following Kimika’s instructions.

‘‘Everyone has a past, but Kimika seems to have had a complicated life too.’‘

In fall that year, Kimika was released from prison (he now has black hair...!). He starts working at Sara-ya again, but things aren’t exactly like they used to be. He’s very quiet and even admits that things will never be the same again after he kidnapped Shiro and tried to die together with him. Shiro says it’s fine as long as he accepts that only Baku can kill him (lol).

‘‘Considering the state of Kimika’s mind, I thought it would be better if Shiro and I weren’t here, but Ruu forced us to come.’‘

They talk about the scene again which is shown at the start of this chapter, in which Baku strangles Shiro. Baku says he used to get angry very easily and just attacked everyone, it was never his intention to target Shiro or anyone in particular. Shiro laughs and says they’re quite similar and just wanted to be accepted and loved. Ruu and Kimika are surprised by this story because this isn’t the Baku they know at all, they’ve never seen him get angry. 

After this they talk some more, and one of the reasons Ruu kept visiting Kimika in prison is because he feels guilty he didn’t recognize Kimika was struggling with his own issues this entire time. The others call Ruu a good person and wonder if he can take care of Kimika, because he’s the only person Kimika really trusts. Shiro tells them they should just get together, as lovers or friends, whatever they want, and Ruu and Kimika seem to agree (they both seem a little bit embarrased lol). Baku says the whole situation looks like an ‘’arranged date’’.

I love how Shiro and Baku are just shipping them, I hope there’s more of that in the other epilogues~. I do kind of like Kimika’s new black haired design, I’m glad they didn’t give him a buzzcut too... I’m still not sure if I’ll summarize every epilogue, but maybe if enough people want to read them! 

I just missed playing the game so it’s fun to finally read all of the extra content.

Slow Damage: Clean Dishes Summary + Endings

I summarized the plot and all of the endings for those who don’t want to play the whole game! Be aware of spoilers and pretty dark bad endings.

Story Shinkoumi is a city of rampant crime, fueled by the country’s crippling recession. Fights, violence and other criminal activities are a daily occurrence. “Clean dishes” is a cleaning service which tidies up rooms in which people have passed away. The story focuses on protagonist Baku, a worker at “Clean dishes,” and his lover Shiro, who wishes to end his own life. They work together with two other characters, Ruu and Kimika, who they are good friends with.

One day Baku notices that Shiro’s behavior has slowly been getting more strange. Shiro starts coming home much later than usual, and won’t stop looking at his phone. Baku suspects Shiro is is talking to someone who’s part of Hare’s Nest, an infamous organization that glorifies death and encourages people to end their own lives.

As the story progresses, Baku starts finding rabbit-shaped objects and drawings in the rooms he cleans. After some investigating, he realizes that many of the people who ended their own lives had connections to Hare’s Nest, and the rabbit drawings are a symbol of the group. The organization convinces its members that ending one’s life is the only way to obtain true happiness. Baku is concerned that Shiro also has connections to this group, as he also has his own struggles and often mentions how he doesn’t want to live anymore. However, Shiro won’t let Baku look at his phone and gets very upset every time Baku tries asking him about it.

Side C Bad End The first ending you unlock. Shiro vanishes and Baku tries looking for him, however he receives a text from someone who informs him Shiro has been kidnapped. The text message mentions a specific location and the sender recommends Baku to visit this place. Baku follows these instructions, but only finds some of Shiro's candy on the floor... Shortly after that Baku gets hit by a heavy object and faints. He wakes up in a strange place. He's locked up in an empty room with only a television screen. After this he is forced to watch a group of strangers assault Shiro (all the endings have CGs btw). After this, the game ends and it's never mentioned again what happened after this or if Baku and Shiro ever escaped. 

Side B Bad End 1 Shiro suddenly vanishes and Baku spends the entire day looking for him. Eventually, Kimika calls Baku informing him that he found Shiro somewhere outside. Baku visits Kimika and takes Shiro home, but Shiro is acting very strange. Shortly after this, Shiro suddenly starts cutting and injuring himself and Baku immediately tries to stop him, but Shiro forces him into a kiss, inserting some mysterious medicine in Baku’s mouth.The medicine was apparently given to him by someone from Hare's Nest. After that, Shiro also swallows the same medicine and passes out. Sometime after that, Baku wakes up and Shiro's on the floor. The dialogue mentions that he looks very bad, almost like a corpse. Baku suddenly starts acting weird because of the medicine and gets this uncontrollable urge to have sex with Shiro... The CG doesn’t show much, you only see Baku and Shiro’s body on the floor. Somewhere in the middle of this Baku realizes Shiro has passed away and convinces himself it's not his fault. After this, Baku also gets a strong urge to end his own life once he realizes what he just did to Shiro. I think we can guess what happens after this...

Side B Bad End 2 This ending is similar to the first B ending. Baku takes Shiro home after Kimika calls him, and Shiro starts acting strange again. He once again forces this medicine in Baku's mouth, given to him by the Hare's Nest member. The only difference is that this time Baku does not faint from the medicine, but he does get strange urges and wants to strangle Shiro. Shiro doesn't seem to mind and actually wants Baku to do this to him, This scene has multiple CGs and there’s a lot of blood (Shiro injured himself pretty badly). Sadly in this ending Shiro also eventually passes away (as a result of Baku choking him). Baku isn’t sure how to react and seems like he gave up on everything. At this point it’s once again pretty clear that someone purposely gave them these drugs. 

Good end 1 and 2 Both of the good ends are pretty similar! Kimika kidnaps Shiro (turns out it was him who kidnapped him in the other endings too, so it wasn’t a coincidence that he was the one who called Baku and who ‘’found’’ Shiro...) and admits he's the leader of Hare's Nest. He has some strange admiration for Shiro and wishes to die together with him. Baku obviously does not agree with this and manages to track Kimika down. Kimika threatens them with a knife, but hesistates, which allows Baku to use this opportunity to escape together with Shiro. In the first ending a bomb ends up going off inside of the building (possibly to kill Baku before he could find Shiro, or to kill all of them). Baku and Shiro get injured but luckily they do survive, Ruu finds them and calls an ambulance. Ruu’s really disappointed in Kimika and it seems like Shiro also has no interest in interacting with Hare’s Nest anymore after the kidnapping. 

In the second good ending, which I think is the true ending, Kimika did not plant the bomb and therefore nobody gets injured Baku takes Shiro home, who now understands that he should have never believed the things Kimika was trying to tell him. In the end, Kimika was just using him because he was afraid of dying alone, and thought Shiro would be an easy person to convince as he already wanted to die. Ruu does still discover what Kimika has been hiding from him, and makes the difficult decision to report his friend to the police. Kimika ends up going to prison, which is also the end of Hare’s Nest. 

If you’re interested in the backstories of the characters, I also summarized the epilogues (1, 2, 3, 4-6) I think it adds a lot more to the game and also gives a lot more context why characters like Shiro and Kimika behave like this. Some of the epilogues and the drama CD take place a couple of years after the incidents of the main game, so Kimika somehow gets released from prison early (spoiler, seems like Eiji used his connections to make this happen lol) and he honestly gets a lot of character development. So despite what happened, the characters are able to re-build their friendship somehow. 

Also Towa appears for a few seconds in the drama CD...!  First time they interact with each other because he’s not in the game at all, though at some point Shiro does describe seeing someone who looks like him! I probably won’t have time to translate the entire drama CD, but maybe someone else will do it some day, I really enjoyed listening to it.

Slow Damage: Clean Dishes guide/review

Slow Damage: Clean Dishes, also called "Saradame/皿ダメ", is a mobile browser game which takes place in the same world as Nitro+Chiral's newest title, Slow Damage. It is considered a spin-off game. I finished it recently, so I decided to write my own little guide how to play the game!

Story Shinkoumi is a city of rampant crime, fueled by the country’s crippling recession. Fights, violence and other criminal activities are a daily occurrence. ''Clean dishes'', also known as "Sara-ya," is a cleaning service which tidies up rooms in which people have passed away. The story focuses on protagonist Baku who works for Sara-ya together with his lover Shiro, who seems to have a strong desire to end his own life. One day, Baku suspects Shiro might be involved with the mysterious organization "Hare's nest", a group that glorifies death.

The game is available for free and can be played in the browser of your smartphone or tablet. It’s also fully voiced and can be played on Animate Games, Fanza Games and DLsite. I personally played the DLsite version. At the moment the game is only available in Japanese, and it is unknown whether or not it will get an English translation in the future. Although the game is free, it does have in-game purchases like any other mobile game. To progress in the game, you need to use stamina to play through the chapters. Your stamina refills every 2 hours. It is not a super long game, but if you want to play it for free it might take a while to complete. It took me exactly 2 months to fully complete it and I did get a bit impatient when I got closer to the endings and bought a few coins.

Clean Dishes adds 4 new characters, protagonist Baku, his boyfriend Shiro, and their co-workers Ruu and Kimika who they're good friends with.

Items To complete the contact and cleaning sections of the game, you’re going to need certainitems which you can either get by logging in every day or by purchasing them in the shop. Note that the game can be fully completed without paying, therefore it is recommended to claim the login bonuses every day. The items you need for each chapter increases as you progress. For example, to finish contact scenes in the first chapter you only need 1 lemon candy, but in the later chapters you need 2, 5 and eventually 10. The cleaning sections are similar and require 1 cloth at first, but you’ll eventually need 10 of them.

Note that the game makes you play the endings in a certain order after the tutorial and prologue, which is as follows:

Chapters and endings The game consists of 8 story chapters, but it's pre-decided what endings you get first (SideC bad end> SideB bad end 1 > SideB bad end 2 > SideA good end1 > SideA good end 2.)

It is also important to keep Shiro happy by collecting as many hearts as possible, which you obtain in the contact scenes by picking certain choices. They are displayed on the top right of the screen, next to the Shiro icon. You can replay the contact scenes as many times as you’d like, when the heart counter doesn’t increase after a new contact scene, it is easy to replay and select the other choice. These hearts are important to get the good endings.

Thoughts and impression I really liked some of the characters who appeared in the main Slow Damage game, so I was excited to play a mobile game which takes place in the same universe. Nitro+Chiral has created mobile games in the past (False Alkanet and World’s end Nightmare) but these could only be accessed through the CHiRAL MOBILE app, which ended its services in 2012 and was only available for Japanese phones, so I never got the chance to play any of them.

The new characters were really fun and it was nice to see their interactions with characters I already knew like Kotaro, Mayu and Eiji. I could sometimes predict parts of the story, but I was still always curious what was going to happen next. I even bought coins a few times because I just couldn’t wait another day to finish some of the endings. Especially the bad endings were really dark and interesting, sometimes darker than the main game. Initially I wished the game was a bit longer because I wanted to know more about the characters, but this content is available in the extra epilogues.

My only complaint is that right now you be can only play this game in your phone’s browser. It doesn’t have an app and you also can’t play it on your computer (unless you use an emulator) which can sometimes be a little bit inconvenient. Overall it was a fun experience to play and I can recommend it! Just be prepared that it might take a few months to finish it. I recommend not spending too much extra money because you can just claim your login bonuses every day.

Each epilogue costs 300 coins, which can be purchased for 330 yen (roughly 3 USD). I highly recommend getting them as they're all really interesting.

Slow Damage: Clean Dishes also recently got its own manga called Clean Dishes -leveret-, illustrated by mangaka Hiromasa Okujima. I’m very curious what kind of new content they’re planning to release in the future.
