We had set aside today to discuss this next year’s Onyx Path brochure, and we almost forgot until the end of the Monday Meeting. Fortunately, one organized soul remembered, and so we began our talks.
I expect these to continue for a couple of weeks.
Why, you may ask – I certainly do – does it take so long to whip together a bunch of descriptions of your products and knock out a brochure or catalog?
Why indeed?
Well, first, it’s important to determine why you are even making the thing in the first place. Why do we need to have a physical takeaway from conventions for folks to refer to?
Well, that depends on what you want them to do with it after they’ve left the con, and focusing on that is a large part of our discussions.
Previously, when we first started Onyx Path, we wanted to show in print and in a concentrated way that the White Wolf game lines were not dead and buried. So we emphasized the new WW-IP projects that we were going to come out with in the year to come.
Since Eddy and I had been doing our “What’s Up With WW?” panels at Gen-Cons and other conventions prior to Onyx Path‘s creation, and continued with “What’s Up With Onyx Path?” since then, and we usually released the next year’s schedule there, we incorporated a schedule with the first Onyx brochures.
C20 Players Guide art by Drew Tucker
When we realized that a classic schedule wasn’t working with how we were getting the projects out, and we stopped the practice of announcing release dates, we also took that opportunity to move away from the “schedule” brochure to more of an “announcement” brochure.
This was a brochure that still emphasized all the lines, but which included the next couple of releases for the lines. No release times specified, just that we were working on them for that line.
While this was happening, we also were ramping up our own Onyx Path-owned game lines, and so including that they were coming was also part of the “announcement” focus. And that led to us realizing we needed to move from presenting the info in the brochure from “Look at those guys keep WW games alive!” to “Look at Onyx Path do WW games!”.
Which then led to Onyx Path having had enough successes with the WW-IPs, and enough new game lines with Pugmire, Scion, Cavs, Trinity Continuum, etc. that we wanted to emphasize all the worlds we had to offer.
So, a couple of years ago, we began using the “Many Worlds, One Path” tagline, and debuted it in the brochure for that year. Our emphasis was to go through all the game lines and give a feel for them in prose descriptions and visuals, and note a little bit about upcoming products – but really not much more than the title.
We figured anybody interested could get more info on our website, DTRPG, and the other vendors and social media listed in the brochure. Because that’s another thing that grew, the number of sales partners we were working with – and it made sense to use the brochure to provide contact info for all of them.
In Media Res art by Tom Denmark
Now, we’re looking again at what we want the brochure to do. We’re still proud of all the game lines we are working on, but having so many, and adding more every year, makes it hard to choose how to set up the brochure. That’s a lot of info to provide and it is hard to minimize any of them since we know they all have devoted fans.
Why is this hard? Here’s the list of all the game lines we’re currently working on, not to mention earlier editions we created a ton of books for:
Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition
Mage: The Ascension 20th Anniversary Edition
Wraith: The Oblivion 20th Anniversary Edition
Changeling: The Dreaming 20th Anniversary Edition
WoD 20th Anniversary Edition (Ghost Hunters)
Vampire: The Requiem 2nd Edition
Werewolf: The Forsaken 2nd Edition
Mage: The Awakening 2nd Edition
Changeling: The Lost 2nd Edition
Hunter: The Vigil 2nd Edition
Geist: The Sin-Eaters 2nd Edition
Mummy: The Curse 2nd Edition
Deviant: The Renegade
Dark Eras 2 (contains material for most CofD lines)
Contagion Chronicle (contains info on most CofD lines for crossover)
Exalted 3rd Edition
Pugmire
Monarchies of Mau
Cavaliers of Mars
Dystopia Rising: Evolution
Legend Lore
Scion 2nd Edition
Trinity Continuum: Core
Trinity Continuum: Aberrant
Trinity Continuum: Aeon
They Came From Beneath the Sea!
So what we’re thinking about now is some sort of core brochure that just describes the game line worlds, notes which system you need to play, maybe has some other useful tips that help define that line. This would be made for cons, game stores, the like, and would back up our tagline with explanation.
Then we’d use a combination of sales sheets and other info to highlight which specific projects are coming out near each con we attend, so those can be the timely takeaways, with the brochure being the evergreen one for the year.
Curious Cats art by Claudio Pozas
But we’re still talking about it, and I’m sure we’ll come up with a bunch more ideas in the weeks to come. But, that’s where you come in if you have thoughts about this.
Give us a yell here in the Comments and let us know what sort of brochure idea you would find value in. What would you like to take away from seeing us at cons, or from your Friendly Local Game Store
We’d appreciate any input you can share with us, AND you’ll also be helping us define more concretely this here tagline:
Many Worlds, One Path!

TODAY’S REASON TO CELEBRATE:
Have a tipple of your favorite beverage for gaming in memorial for Gary Gygax, who died this day in 2008. As with all creative ventures, many folks contributed in different ways to the start of TTRPGs with D&D, but Gary certainly officiated (DM’d) over its rise to the brand name of our hobby.

Brazil is the topic of the day, today, for a variety of reasons.
1) Last week I received a bunch of pics and notes from our friends at Cronistas das Trevas who ran a Chronicles of Darkness Day all across Brazil that demonstrates that the Brazilian tabletop RPG scene is exploding! 160 people in 14 different cities (double the number of cities from last year!) sat down to play Chronicles of Darkness games. It sounds like a great time was had by all!
Maybe one of these years some of us Onyx Path folks can join you down there for the day…
Here is the website, and a few pics I pretty much randomly pulled to share with you all: http://ift.tt/2kJbPue/
These folks played two games while podcasting!
  2) Cursed Necropolis: Rio is getting set for approvals and then out as a Backer PDF to the Mummy: the Curse KS backers. It is the last of the KS Stretch Goal rewards, and while it took us a much longer time to deliver everything from that KS, it feels great to have delivered (almooost) such a diverse yet solid selection of Mummy: the Curse books.
3) Just today, Fast Eddy Webb let me know that there is a translator/publisher in Brazil interested in Pugmire. This is both very cool, and not surprising. We have had interest in all of the game lines we publish from possible translators from Brazil, and we’re looking forward to getting some signed up soon. Again, from what I hear, the country is just in love with tabletop RPGs, and very open to cool new games.
CofD Dark Eras Companion art by Vince Locke
This brings up something I do want to touch on.
I get a fair number of requests from players in other countries outside the US for us to create our books in their language. This is cool, and it is great to hear that there is interest there, but I hope folks understand that we’re not the ones who are translating and publishing the books in other languages.
We just don’t have the bandwidth or knowledge base for that. We also do not have the time to actively seek out translation partners.
Onyx Path relies on working with translation/publishing partners in other countries who have contacted us, have proven they can do great work, and who are willing and able to pay the licensing fee or fees we ask for. If we had our way, there’d be a partner company in every country around the world making localized versions of our books!
But unfortunately, that’s not the case yet, so we are gradually building relationships with those folks who can and do match up with what we need from our translation partners. If we haven’t done that for your favorite game in your language, please rest assured it is not that we hate your country, language, that game, or you! We just haven’t found a partner who can make it happen yet.
    Pugmire illustration by Claudio Pozas
Finally, and try as I might I can’t really get it to fit the Brazil theme, I did want to let Mage 20 fans know that Rollickin’ Rose and Mighty Matt and I sat down with Satyr Phil Brucato and worked out ways to get an additional developer or two onto some of the M20 books we have listed as coming out of the Deluxe M20 Kickstarter. The one dev I heard for certain is onboard is our old friend Pete Woodworth, which Satyr let me know about over the weekend.
Satyr puts his heart and soul into every book, and writes and rewrites and develops the hell out of them (or into them in the case of the Book of the Fallen?), but that dedication has also slowed things down as there are only so many hours in the day for one creator to cover so many things. Satyr didn’t like it, we certainly didn’t, and now we have a working plan.
Really just one of the many ways we’re learning from the lessons of the past five years to move into our next five.
    BLURBS!
KICKSTARTER!
We’re exploring card game Kickstarters, packaging, and components, for Prince’s Gambit. I’m working on the KS pages this week, and our video genius is assembling edits while Justin is picking music. Things look good, and we are all for starting the KS in Feb so long as the process of pulling the KS together cooperates. If so, then Monarchies of Mau KS would be next, after Gambit.
  ON SALE!
Hunter: the Vigil explodes into the Bundle of Holding! Starting today, you can pledge for first edition Hunter: the Vigil PDFs at massive discounts and 10% of your purchase goes to the RPG Creators Relief Fund, INC too, which is very cool. Check it out here: http://ift.tt/2jUHawr
This offer is doing really well- thanks to all of you who have supported a great cause so far!
How about we do something never before attempted and add WoD Armory to this set of PDFs! For those of you who pledged already- we give this with our thanks! And if you haven’t pledged yet…well now you get even more awesome PDFs when you do!
Looking for our Deluxe or Prestige Edition books? Here’s the link to the press release we put out about how Onyx Path is now selling through Indie Press Revolution: http://ift.tt/1ZlTT6z
We’re preparing wave 2 of our Deluxe and Prestige print overrun books, including Deluxe Mage 20th Anniversary, and Deluxe V20 Dark Ages.
From the massive Chronicles of Darkness: Dark Eras main book, we have pulled this single chapter, Dark Eras: Ruins of Empire (Mummy 1893-1924). Perhaps the quintessential era of the mummy in the minds of Westerners, this period saw the decline of the two greatest empires of the age: British and Ottoman. Walk with the Arisen as they bear witness to the death of the Victorian age, to pivotal mortal discoveries in Egypt, and to the horrors of the Great War.
Available in PDF and physical copy PoD versions on DTRPG. http://ift.tt/2k0XDhX
From the massive Chronicles of Darkness: Dark Eras main book, we have pulled this single chapter, Dark Eras: The Sundered World (Werewolf and Mage 5500-5000 BCE). At the birth of civilization, in the shadow of the Fall, the Awakened stand as champions and protectors of the agricultural villages spread across the Balkans. In a world without a Gauntlet, where Shadow and flesh mingle, the steady taming of the world by humanity conflicts with the half-spirit children of Father Wolf.
Available in PDF and physical copy PoD versions on DTRPG. http://ift.tt/2k16mRj
Night Horrors: Conquering Heroes for Beast: the Primordial is available now as an Advance PDF: http://ift.tt/2j7p7lO
This book includes:
An in-depth look at how Heroes hunt and what makes a Hero, with eleven new Heroes to drop into any chronicle.

Rawhead and bloody bones
Steals naughty children from their homes,
Takes them to his dirty den
And they are never seen again.
So says the nursery rhyme that gives birth to Rawhead, the most fearsome entity to imperil the living since the infamous Roller. Once an obedient mummy by name of Benefre, a desperate bid by his cult fails in tragic fashion, and in so doing, sends him to the Devourerís waiting, corruptive maw. What remains of Benefreís ambitious soul rises again, impure and unholy, set to the execution of a scheme so baleful, it constitutes a heresy even among his own misbegotten kind.
All that stands between Rawhead and his terrible aim are a lone mummy, Kemsiyet, and what little remains of her cult following its destruction at Rawhead’s hands. Declan, her prized security aide, and Fiona, an Irish researcher only just recently inducted into the cult and its blood-soaked world, must fight both the odds and the clock in order to prevent a calamity the likes of which the world hasnít seen since the days of the mummies’ creation.

All my stuff is for aew
My happy things: Regal debuting at revolution, the bcc coming together, wheeler joining the bcc, forbidden door, being introduced to ZSJ, Claudio joining aew and bcc, Claudio and Yoots teaming and being champions, Eddie coming down with the gas can and attempting to light Jericho and Bryan on fire, bcc Eddie and proud and powerful kicking ass in anarchy in the arena and blood and guts, William regal and his flirting with Excalibur, Renee coming to aew, hookhausen match and the backstage segments and hooks little smile, Ricky finally getting over with the crowd and getting the love he deserves, Eddie getting to fight Jun akiyama,
Hot takes: mjf/punk and Eddie/punk are still the best feuds of the year. More wrestlers need to be built up instead of focusing on the older guys. Dark and elevation should have storylines and be used to build up newer people and start storylines that end on tv or ppv’s. Roh should have it’s own show either tv or YouTube and not take up aew time we do not have to spare. Tk should not be in charge of the womens division at all and should be given the time and respect mens matches get. Give it to regal if he’s staying. Whoever is in charge of the cameras needs to be fired too many spots get missed or the camera is on things too long and ruin effects of what should be a devastating bulb and instead shows all the protection stuff
Unpopular opinion: 1) both punk and the elite fucked all the way up and both are equally to blame for the fall out and the brawl that should have never been. 2) And wrestlers no matter who they are should stop going to the tabloids no matter how much they think they’re friends it’s ruining things and no one is coming out clean handle shit in house not on tabloid pages
doing end of the year best moments & “we have to stan” moments with my friends
please tell me your best moments from wrestling this year 🫣 any hot takes and any discourse, any unpopular opinions
