“High and Low” (1963)
One of my absolute favorite films. The main plot is set off when a rich man gets a call one day that his son has been kidnapped. However, it turns out that the kidnapper has accidentally taken the son of the rich mans chauffeur instead.
The acting is amazing, the plot is beautifully complex, and everything is both simple and very complicated in terms of character decisions and morals.
Romance-free. One of the main characters is married, but they don’t do anything romantic and are just focused on the kidnapping situation.

“Yojimbo” (1961)
Excellent Japanese samurai film. The main character is a nameless rōnin samurai who wanders the countryside. By chance he happens upon a small town where two competing crime organizations have been battling it out for some time. The samurai decides to stay and get rid of these yakuza for the sake of the remaining good townsfolk.
No romance in it. Two of the yakuza members are married, though their relationship was likely arranged and is treated more as a business deal. If you missed one line of their dialogue you probably couldn’t even tell that they were supposed to be married at all.
A really good film that had a huge influence on the Western genre (in fact it has been remade several times as American Westerns, though these aren’t as good).

“Titanium” music video directed by David Wilson, David Guetta
A music video that also works very well as a short film. One of the best music videos ever, definitely in my personal top five at any rate. The story of a kid who is simply trying to protect himself from people who perceive him as a threat simply because he has unusual abilities. No romance at all

The Dupont Show with June Allyson (1959) “A Silent Panic.”
A short film about a deaf-mute man named Benson who sees a murder while working as a ‘living statue’ and is unable to communicate with anyone what he saw. Benson is close friends with a warehouse security guard named Daniel, and the climax consists of them protecting each other from the murderers (don’t worry, this is a holiday special made in the late 1950s - it all works out). Very good, and has Harpo Marx!
