Classic Rock Sleepover Asks 2.0
The classic rock fandom twist on the “sleepover ask” concept -revamped over a year later with an extended question list for all to enjoy spending the night getting deep and specific about our beloved old musicians and their timeless songs
1) Name an album you can listen to all the way through without skipping a song
2) What is an interesting fact about one of your favorite bands that not a lot of people might know?
3) What’s one of the funniest band stories you’ve ever heard? What happened?
4) Name two songs by two different bands that sound similar or have the same sort of theme/vibe (but aren’t often recognized for this)
5) Do you have a “comfort album”? (an album you like to play in the background when you’re sick, going through a hard time, etc.) If so, what is it? Is there a particular reason it’s your comfort album?
6) Do you have any head canons about a band or any of its members? (Specify a band when asking!)
7) Is there a band you love that has done something that really disappointed you? What was it?
8) What member of your favorite band must be protected at all costs, and why?
9) Tell me a funny, random quote from a rock star.
10) Name 2 to 5 random rock stars from different bands in your ask, and I’ll try to come up with a scenario of what would happen if they were in the same room together!
11) What’s a song you have a memory strongly associated with?
12) What’s a band you really love but haven’t posted as much for/haven’t posted at all on Tumblr? Any reason why?
13) Do you have a band that you were once ashamed for liking? If so, are you still ashamed, or did you get past that -and what makes you proud of liking them now?
14) Is there a band you like that you used to hate? Why did you not like them at first, and what changed that for you?
15) What’s a song or band you got into by chance of just happening to be in the right place while it was playing, and may have never known without that one experience?
16) Name an artist you grew up listening to who you can always go back to and enjoy.
17) Do you have any bands or band members that you have a love/hate relationship with? Who and why?
18) Name a song that you love, but have to be in a very specific mood to listen to
19) Have you had any dreams involving rock stars? Pick one dream, and tell who showed up in it. If you feel comfortable, share what happened.
20) Name some bands/artists in your music library that you feel are most different from each other, or represent the far range of styles you like
21) Is there a band you like the music of, but dislike some or all of the members, to the point where you simply cannot get into them beyond the songs?
22) Is there a band/artist you feel gets misrepresented, and might have had more fans otherwise?
23) Tell me a band member or solo artist who you feel you can relate to in some specific way.
24) What’s a deep cut that you feel deserves more love (specify a band/artist when asking!)
25) Name a song that you love by an artist you otherwise don’t usually like.
26) Go on a rant about one of your favorites and why you love them so much!
27) Show me one of your favorite pictures of one of your favorites. Ramble about why it’s your favorite picture if you like!
28) Share a video and a time stamp of one of your favorite moments involving one of your favorite bands/artists
29) If you could choose one song by a band that doesn’t currently get played on classic rock stations, or greatest hits stations featuring a lot of older songs to be added to their regular playlists, what would you choose? (Specify a band/artist when asking!)
30) What’s the longest you’ve kept a song on repeat for, and what song was it? Did it get old by the time you turned it off, or did you still want to hear it more later?
#asks#ask games#bring on the insanity#reblog and have at it with your friends and mutuals too#classic rock sleepover#there can never be enough encouragement to share stories about our favorites and their shenanigans

Pathologic fandom should take a page out of the Dark Souls fandom playbook and just start outright criticizing people who think the game is hard.
Starving with no food or money on Day 2? Should have prepared better.
Can't figure out the combat? Git gud.
Stuck in a death loop and have to reload a save from the day prior? Skill issue.
#I already refer to every single piece of media I consume in terms of how it relates to Pathologic#So I'm basically already doing the “this is the Dark Souls of X” thing#Pathologic#[if it's not clear this is a joke]#Actually Patho fandom is the ONLY place I've asked for help with a game and actually gotten it lol#It was that one part in classic's Daniil route where u have to hide behind a rock nd shoot like 5 guards#I kept eating shit bc some mad genius at IPL thought Patho needed cover mechanics 😭

for the writer ask
💭🚦💛 💌
💭 What inspires you and your writing?
this is a real marketing major-ass answer (from your local marketing major), but i love sharing knowledge and telling stories. writing’s one of those things that’s a bit of a compulsion for me—i’m always writing something. i took a five-year break from fiction writing before i stumbled ass-first into fanfic last year, but even in those years when i was focusing on my career, i was writing guides and trainings and a ton of other stuff—just not anything fun, lol.
writing is also so cathartic. sometimes i set out to tell a specific story, but at other times, a particular emotion gets me in a vice grip and i have to put it to words before it’ll go away. my stories tend to wind up as emotional dumping grounds as a result.
i don’t write things pulled directly from my own life, but there are bits and pieces of myself and things that have happened to me scattered throughout stuff i’ve written, and usually when i’m about 75% of the way through a piece, i’ll realize it’s absolutely related to something i’m currently going through. funny how art works that way, even when you don’t intend for it to.
and occasionally i just have a fire lit under my ass about an issue and i get so hot about it that i gotta compile my thoughts. looking at you, silver snow
🚦 What sort of endings do you prefer to write: ambiguous, bad, happily ever after, etc.?
look, i would love nothing more for them girls (pick whichever girls you please) to have a happy ending where they kiss and are stupid in love for the rest of forever. i love reading those kinds of stories. but in my heart of hearts, i love an ambiguous ending. i like when there are still questions after the story ends. i like thinking about where things could go or how the characters will go on after the events of the story. like, shared space could be read as having a happy ending, but i don’t really think it is. and with the victors; the vestiges, well. you’ll see :0)
come to think of it, i’m not sure i’ve ever written a happily-ever-after, but i don’t think i’ve ever written a 100% bad ending, either. i read too many bury-your-gays stories and watched too many sad european queer coming-of-age films in my youth to ever be happy putting that kinda thing out into the world. i want to write about love with all its ugliness, but not despair or hopelessness. i think what most appeals to me about an ambiguous ending is that lingering feeling of hope. it’s not the same as the kind you get from a happily-ever-after, and something about it speaks to me.
💛 What is the most impactful lesson you’ve learned about writing?
honestly? how to take criticism. i took a creative writing class in high school where we had to read our work out loud and then receive feedback on it from the other writers in the class, and that did a lot for me. going into that class, i’d already been writing for forever and had won some little local writing contests and such, so i was a wee bit of a pretentious douche. but i’d never gotten real critique before beyond, essentially, spelling and grammar checks. it humbled me lol. it made me grow so much as a writer, and i could see where i needed to improve or where my head was wedged way too far up my own ass for others to follow. it also helped me recognize strengths i didn’t know i had, and that was huge. it’s easy to get into a self-doubt spiral when making creative work, and good, constructive criticism can do so much to help avoid that.
to this day i love critique. i like knowing what worked or didn’t work so that i can continue to improve as a writer and do better next time. did my themes land? did something really work, but another part fall flat? i’d love to know!! i try to treat everything i write as practice for the next thing, and frankly that’s helped take some of the pressure off so i don’t go into total Perfectionist Mode.
i know critique is kind of a sensitive topic in fan spaces, but i think that’s because a lot of people have gotten unsolicited criticism that is purely critical and isn’t constructive. but getting good, constructive criticism will do so much to help a person grow as a writer. it’s scary, and sometimes it hurts! writing is very personal for most people, and it stings when things aren’t received the way you think they will be. but i know i’ve grown more from having my failures pointed out (and, very importantly, having the good things about those efforts acknowledged) than anything else.
💌 Is there a favorite trope you like to write?
actually Just answered this in another ask!
#sterge.eml#foxyjeongin#thank you for playing my little game and letting me talk about stories (and about me lmao)#sorry this is kind of a long post#i talk too much#i think i sound pretentious in this ask whoops. sorry#unfortunately i kind of am. i’m working on it.#… i guess the short answer to that first question is ‘emotions and mental illness’ lol#if you follow me on twitter (not recommended as it’s just me complaining about the weather and not being able to ride my motorcycle)#you know that every time i bring up my writing in therapy my therapist rocks my shit by revealing the story is#in fact.#NOT about what i thought it was about#or more accurately it’s ALSO secretly about whatever’s going on with me in real life lmao#y’know what’s really fun? looking back at something you wrote in a manic or depressive episode and going ah. hm. interesting.#the signs were. in fact. there.#(this is in fact not fun and i don’t like it. but it always happens.)#everything i write is accidentally Also about being bipolar. no getting around that#i tend to have issues organizing my thoughts and feelings to even figure out how tf i’m feeling#(forget making any attempt at doing so verbally. i have chronic foot-in-mouth disorder and accidentally say shit i don’t mean all the time)#but writing stuff down has always helped me sort through whatever mess is going on in my noggin and i love it for that#learning how to take critique is my no. 1 piece of writing advice but no. 2 is to read#read the classics. find out why they’re classics. read weird shit. read shit you don’t like. find things you like about em anyway.#and importantly: figure out WHY you do or don’t like it#it’s funny to re-read a book i haven’t read in a long time and discover OH. that’s where i get that technique from.#or that’s where i got that idea. or that’s why i had X thing happen in this story.#or why i like this type of character or scenario#nothing’s truly new and original#we’re all an amalgamation of influences and that ruuuuules#celebrate it!!!

@thedookieshooter and @charlesandkeef tagged me to share my instafest lineup (I’ve only had Spotify for a week, because I finally gave up on Amazon Music, so the results might not be super holistic):
Tagging: @charliesmydarling and @aiaiawar
#I like Noel Coward#but I definitely do not regularly listen to That much Noel Coward#also just because I know they’re a bit less well known#Arik Einstein and Shalom Hanoch are super old school Israeli/Hebrew language rock and folk guys#and Jordi Savall does early modern-classical world music#pretty much everyone else there is jazz#with some blues and a bit of rock mixed in#(I don’t actually like Frank Sinatra that much. I prefer Dean Martin. but I like his last album ‘She Shot Me Down.’#it’s basically the soundtrack to a depressed middle aged man’s divorce).#instafest#ask game#tag game#thanks!#the rolling stones#I will admit to a deep and abiding love for Tom Waits#because I’m a pretentious Kerouac/Tom Wolfe/beat poetry girl like that#which is also why my stupid nerdy username references a Russian poet#Joseph Brodsky#I listen to a ton of baroque music and opera (love Corelli and Lully and Marais) but those have lots of different groups and musicians

Hysteria- Def Leppard for the album ask!
thanks for the ask! :)
best song: gotta be pour some sugar on me, great riff and so catchy
my favourite song: probably women, it’s got a great punch to it
my least favourite song: all of them are good but I’ll say don’t shoot shotgun bc it stands out to me the least
most overrated song: hm. pour some sugar on me is the most well-known but it’s great so I’d say it deserves it… animal is their 2nd most played song on apple music and wouldn’t be that high for me so I’ll say that
most underrated song: gods of war doesn’t get mentioned much but is very good :)
the banger of all bangers: it’s the obvious answer for a reason - pour some sugar on me!
rate from 0-10: an iconic album with plenty of great songs. there’s a lot of good stuff scattered across other albums, and I love the debut, so it’s not the leppard be all and end all or me, but a solid 8 I think :)

Hi! For the Classic Rock Sleepover Asks 2.0: 26 and 27! :D
Hello!
26) Go on a rant about one of your favorites and why you love them so much!
(Warning -long!) As my blog can probably tell, I have a ton of favorites to where I could never name a top favorite of all time, but Squeeze is my favorite band that I’m most hyperfixated with at the moment. It’s actually been awhile since the last time I was super into them (like, 2014? Around the time I started discovering the bands I like that my family did *not* introduce me to XD) so they’ve been a lot of fun to catch up with since they hooked me at the end of January. I first got to know Squeeze when I was eight with East Side Story, and instantly loved it. I’m not sure if I loved them as themselves at that point, or if I loved them because The Beatles and Elvis Costello were two of the artists I’d been raised on since I was like three, and they combined a lot of my favorite things from those two (though they’re definitely their own band!) I may or may not have then been traumatized by my dad playing the “Hourglass” video on loop one day (simultaneously the coolest and creepiest thing I’d then seen), but rediscovered them in my teenage years and got to know more of their songs and did some research on the members. I love tracing connections between my favorite artists, so discovering the ties between Squeeze and Elvis Costello was probably the first bit of fun I really had with them. (Having discovered more bands since the last time I was hyped on them, I’ve had more connections to explore lately, too!)
But what I really enjoyed back then -and have been rediscovering lately -is how much I love the connection between the members of Squeeze, and how many of them have stayed close with each other over the years, even if they haven’t stayed in the band. Obviously, Glenn and Chris have the strongest, most notorious relationship, and the most important one, since it has provided all the music -but it doesn’t stop there! Chris is almost as inseparable from Jools as he is from Glenn -maybe more so, when he still did lots of collaboration with Jools when he and Glenn were in minimal contact through the 2000s. Gilson also has a pretty endearing connection with Jools, and since he had his second tenure in Squeeze during the late 2000s and early 2010s, John Bentley seems to have never really lost touch with anybody. Even though his times with them were very short, Chris and Glenn seemed to really love Paul Carrack, too. They’re not perfect in terms of fighting and band drama (and I can only think of *one* band in my menagerie of favorites that had virtually no infighting), but it’s very minimal, and they’re all very respectful of it and each other’s reasons… (because they care about/love each other!) There’s practically no interview articles floating around of anyone talking shit about each other regarding departures and breakups (it breaks my heart how frequent this is for some other bands). Chris in particular, I think showed a lot of subtle signs of having a lot of pain over being separated from Glenn for years, but respected him and let him take his time without complaining about being apart. And I really love Chris for that -he’s an absolute sweetheart, and my favorite member if I’m forced to choose, because of how much he loves and cares about his band mates, and how he’s not afraid to say it.
This is also the first time I’ve had a hyperfixation with them where they’ve been able to be an emotional support band -and I’ll probably have a much greater soft spot for them after this for it. Winter downs hit hard this year, the local radio station was playing a lot of depresso content during work hours, and this hype with Squeeze began when five of their songs gave me some upbeat ear worms that started picking me back up. I do joke that I have a love/hate relationship with them (because sometimes they get on my nerves when they start playing around too much -Jools is usually the culprit, but occasionally Chris and John get in on it), but even when they’ve had me groaning at their antics lately, they’ve been a joy.
27) Show me one of your favorite pictures of one of your favorites. Ramble about why it’s your favorite picture if you like!
So, I saved this from the Squeeze Facebook page a couple of months back, and I admittedly have *no* idea what to do with it here, because of the awkward collage layout making it really hard to highlight one section, but the full band pic in the middle is absolute 1980 Argybargy era GOLD. I love… *love* pictures where members of bands are goofing around with each other and visibly having a lot of fun. But what really takes it to another level is when I can really visualize from that picture how much they all loved each other at that point in time. I had to come up with a tag for it on here for how special it is and the amount of serotonin it gives me: “endearing shenanigans”… because there are some pictures where guys are being *so stupid* with their antics, yet so undeniably precious, and I can’t help but love it… and being the way they are, Squeeze has tons of those pictures -this being one of the greats. Look at how big their smiles are -the mischief on Chris’s face, how Gilson and Glenn are visibly in full laughter, and how Jools and John are grinning at each other -very likely scheming up trouble, but having so much fun. That is pure, unbridled love and joy right there.
Thanks for asking (and for getting through my late-night ramble rant if you’ve made it this far)!
