Tooning In 19. Ken Mitcherony part 1 of 4 (maybe, or alternatively about a half of Ken)
DL:So I ask you, who are you, what do you do, and what you're best known for?
KM:Ken Mitchroney, Carbon based unit. I do a lot of things but let's boil it down too, animation studio swiss army knife and comic book artist. Best known for Teenage Mutant ninja Turtles Adventures comic books and numerous animated features and TV shows. None of my skills include proof reading as we will see here.😄
DL:Lol! So growing up, how was your childhood?
KM: Middle class, Florida upbringing. No complaints.
DL:So, what were your favorite cartoons growing up?
KM:Warner Brothers and Tom and Jerry cartoons mostly. Some of the Hanna Barbera tv cartoons as well.
DL:So when did you decide you wanted to become an animator?
KM:Once I found out what they were.I think I was like, ten?
DL:So did you practice drawing? Like trying to draw the characters you see on Tv? Like how do they work?
KM:Constantly. And comic books and comic strips. Just trying to crack the code back then. It's how you learn.
DL:Yeah, kinda me too! It's just so hard. Until I found a book called How to Draw Animated Cartoons. That book taught me how to draw cartoons and design them.
KM:Yeah. Preston Blair's book on animation was the turning point. Found it in an art supply store in Lake Worth and it changed everything. That and getting a 16mm camera and learning how film works and is put together.
DL:I know, he just made everything look so easy! Especially character construction!
KM:The building blocks.
DL:Yeah! So,how was high school?
KM: had a different kind of high school experience than most. A friend of my fathers, Archie Di Bacco started a private school that had its own way of teaching and also focusing heavily on the arts. Being that I'm highly dyslexic, I was struggling in regular school because no one catered to this back then, so my folks sent me to Di Bacco School.I flourished there being a visual thinker.I learned film making, animation ,photography, broadcasting art and art theory and a ton of other skills. What a great place.Saved my life and loaded my gun for the careers I had coming.I was also in communication with Bob Clampett, Tex Avery, Mel Blanc and Friz Freling by this time. Great mentors 3000 miles away. And they were very kind with their time on the rare times I would come out.
DL:So how did you enter the industry after school? Was it hard? Because you didnt work in animation until 1988.
KM:Yeah, It was frustrating. Friz offered me a job at DFE but, I told him I wanted to finish my last year of high school and I would be back. The industry changed from cartoons to more realistic superhero shows and my portfolio didn't reflect the change so, even though I knew people, I could not get hired so I went back home, Licked my wounds and started to work in Comics and film until something broke. And it did. I was at comic con in San Diego promoting my book, Space Ark and Jerry Beck came by my table. " Sody Clampett has been trying to get a hold of you. They are doing a new Beany and Cecil television show and the family wants you to come in and Interview." My wife flew back to Florida. I took the train to Burbank and got the job. God bless Bob Clampett and the family. From then on it was animation, comic books and live action film.
DL:So,I want to ask you something.
KM:Why I'm here😄
DL:So are you a furry? According to your WikiFur page?
KM:Actually no. Space Ark was the first real funny animal comic book out there in the early 80's. I was not aware of the furry movement then but it was embraced by them and I think that's where all this came from. I have some friends who were into all that and I was happy to drop a few Space Ark drawings in fanzines as favors but that was about it. Guilt by association.
DL:Like Mike Kazaleh and Marc Schrimster? They were your colleagues right?'
KM:And friends, yeah. Good guys and very talented artists.
DL:I know! I have one of Mike's Captain Jack books!
KM:Yeah. Mike's books came after Cutie Bunny and Space Ark hit the stands. I wish more people remembered what we did back then. That self publishing time back in the early 80's was something else. A lot of talented guys and gals followed us and they and their books are sadly forgotten now.
DL:Yeah, I mean the most known funny animal comic now is Cerbus the Aardvark!
KM:I got a very nice write up in one of the Cerbus editorials back then when we all met up for the Comic Book Creator Rights Conference in North Hampton that my old pals Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird put on.Talking about how funny animal comic book artist are the Rodney Dangerfield of the industry.😄 But I digress.
DL:Haha! So back on track, Beany and Cecil for DiC, Bob Clampett Productions and ABC.
KM:Yup!
DL:How was working on it as a layout artist?
KM:It was fine. John.K was very demanding about what he needed and kept us all on our toes. I learned a lot about TV production, schedules and studio politics and made friends with guys who would ask me to go on to be life long trench buddies in the business. It was a shame it ended so quickly.
DL:From an interview from DiC vice president Robby London, said it was a nightmare in production. especially John K, as he would draw stuff in the episode nobody would see.
KM:Being a mindless production drone at the time, we didn't really hear about that until the day we all got cut.So I went back to Florida again and then got the call to come back out and work on Tiny Toons so, it all worked out.
DL:So who called you? Tom Ruegger?
KM:Eddie Fitzgerald. He wanted to get the old Beany band back together again. So we all just migrated back there. And Mike Kazaleh graciously let me sleep on the couch in his living room.
DL:What a nice guy!
KM:Indeed.
DL:So what is a layout artist? Is he the guy who draws the poses for the in-betweener to draw, creating motion?
KM:You do key pose drawings for the overseas animators based on the storyboard. A lot like what an animation director would do back in the old days. This also included background keys from time to time. I was also doing storyboard revision and clean up by this time.
DL:Ah, so what did you think of doing a Muppet Babies version of the Looney Tunes?
KM:They were their own thing so I didn't have a problem with it at all. The fact we got to draw the real Loony Tunes guys from time to time was a real treat. And we got to work with some of the old WB mid timers. What an education. For me anyway.
DL:cool! Were you a caricature in Tiny Toons?
This is a splash page of all of the crew who worked on tiny toons circa 1990. Notice the guy with the derp stare and big forehead on the right, yeah that’s Bruce Timm, creator of Batman: the Animated Series.
This was all the crew on the show.
KM:Bruce Time taught himself how to do caricatures and he went nuts during production. Funny stuff. I'm right in front of Jeff Pidgeon in this one.
DL:Yeah, you were so tiny in that one!Did Bruce Timm really have a big forehead?
KM:Yeah. Both of us did in his drawings.😄
DL:Ah ok.
KM:Some amazingly talented folks in that one.
DL:I thought he wore glasses? This was a caricature of himself in Batman.
This is the character Ted Dymer, the main antagonist of the Batman:TAS episode, Beware the Grey Ghost. Who is also modeled after and voiced by Bruce Timm. notice the glasses and blonde hair?
Did he wear glasses later?
KM:We all did. Thanks animation.
DL:Yeah. So Taz Mania for FOX as a layout artist?
KM:I was a story artist by that time and was doing development with Jeff Pidgeon on Taz Mania. Jeff left to work on the Simpsons and then a little commercial house up north called Pixar. I went back home to Florida and got called back to do story on Taz once it got greenlit.
DL:So how was working there? with Bill Kopp and Mike Milo and some guy who's first name is Art
KM:Same old same old.Bill and I are certifiable and should not be left unsupervised. Hahaha!!!
DL:Lol!So you left WB in 1991, why did you?
KM:They would not let me move up to director so I followed Art Leonardi over to Universal to get their animation studio up and running. Being that I was a live action guy and understood his film language, Steven had me come back and re-board the mine chase in the Tiny Toons summer vacation special. I never received credit for that one but hey, it was for Steven and I love that guy's work. But yeah. I did a lot of development pitch art and storyboards for things like The Munsters and Oswald the Magical Rabbit. We also did work for Shelly Duvall's Bedtime Stories and whatever needed bandaids over there.
DL:Can you tell me what was the Oswald reboot? This was pre Disney/Walter Lantz ownership of the character.
KM:They found out they owned it and wanted to see if there was anything to it. Five boards of concept art and an outline was all it got.
DL:Oh ok. So that's what it was.
KM:Yeah. It just died.
DL:Sadly nobody uses Oswald after 1952, he wasn't brung back until 2006 with Epic Mickey, the video game. What was the Munsters cartoon?
KM:The Munsters was great fun and all mine to develop. I was in heaven because I loved the show so much. The studio shut down just before our pitch. It would have been great fun.The only thing that came of the whole Universal Animation studio effort was Stunt Dawgs for Hal Needham. Once Universal pulled the plug on its animation effort, that was sent over to DIC. I did all the character designs but didn't get the gig working on the show. That's Hollywood.
DL:Who is Hal Needham?
KM:Hal Needhan was king of the stuntmen and a very popular movie director at the time.
DL:Ah. You also worked on Back to the Future:the Animated Series?
KM:One of the great take aways from working at Universal. It's also the show where I met John Stevenson who went on to direct Kung Fu Panda when I was at Dreamworks and years later, he and I were working on and just finished Max and the Midknights at Nickelodeon.
DL:Wow! Friends to the end,eh?
KM:Yes sir!
DL:So you opened an independent studio with Mike Kazaleh in 1992 right in orlando?
KM:In Deland Florida, yeah. I was not getting what I wanted out of Hollywood and was sick of being away from your wife eight months of the year, sleeping on floors and couches all over the valley so I left. My last interview was with John K to come work with the old gang on Ren and Stimpy. I had a feeling it was going to be a train wreck so I thanked John, waved bye to all my pals over at Spumco and went home to start my own studio. Everyone said I was nuts but I was able to keep it going for seven years. We did a lot of productions for Hollywood, local commercials, comic books and anything that came through our doors. Bob Ross came by and had us develop a show for him before he died. Happy trees. Happy animated trees. Hahaha!!!
DL:Wow! So do you remember any projects you did back then at your studio?
KM:We did more Back to the Future and boarded a lot of stuff. The Ninja Turtle thing was hitting then so I did a lot of art and comics for Mirage and Archie. I'm so glad I did because all that is hot again and it's saving my neck between productions nowadays. Cowabunga! Then Jeff Pidgeon contacted me about a story gig at Pixar and the world changed again.
DL:What was Santa's Magic Book?
KM:Our last production. Yeah.
DL:I was baffled by that, and I had to ask.
KM:Yeah. Some local businessmen wanted to do a show.
DL:Go on?
KM:And that was it. Just another thing to keep the studio lights on- barely.
DL:And did it air on local TV?
KM:I guess? We delivered it, I shut down the studio and moved to the bay area by then.
DL:Ok. And you said goodbye to Orlando?
KM:Deland, Florida actuality. We still have our property there but yeah, I love the bay area. And always have.

The Cost of a Steam Locomotive: Then and Now (and some info on VR A2 964)
(Victorian Railways A2 4-6-0 No 964 Express Passenger locomotive at Edwardes Lake Park, where it still is today.
Note the Boxpok driving wheels, a relatively late modification that was given to 5 A2s, similar to the currently in-steam VR A2 No 986 currently operated by SteamRail)
(Article from the Herald Sun, I copied it so you don't have to click the link below)
Edwardes Lake Park's locomotive has steamed up in value
RESERVOIR'S popular steam locomotive display cost $648 in 1968 and is now worth an estimated $200k.
Kellie Cameron
July 11, 2013 - 12:00AM Preston Leader
A STEAM locomotive bought for the city 45 years ago is still paying off for Darebin residents.
The locomotive on display at Reservoir's Edwardes Lake Park is enjoyed by thousands of visitors each year.
Children on school holidays last week were among many climbing aboard its cabin.
Local historian Mervyn Lia said the former Preston Council paid the state $640 for the locomotive in 1968.
The total cost including transportation to the park was more than $3000.
Mr Lia said it would now be worth more than $200,000.
Darebin La Trobe Ward councillor Gaetano Greco said the bargain buy had become an invaluable local icon.
He said of its original price: "You couldn't even buy a good train set let alone a train these days for $640.''
Railway Historical Society (Vic) president Wayne Brown said the locomotive's cost 45 years ago was most likely its scrap value at the time.
He was glad it was saved, saying it offered an insight into a bygone era, and was one of few still accessible at public places.
"It's great for any engine to be accessible to an admiring public given the amazing contribution that all such engines made to development of the state,'' he said.
Mr Lia said the rare class of locomotive weighing almost 90 tonnes was brought to the park via rail and road in 1969.
It was a well-earned rest for A2 964, which had travelled more than two million kilometres during its years of service from 1921 to 1963.
Cr Greco said the council had no plans to move the locomotive.
Edwardes Lake Park, on Edwardes St, attracts about 135,000 visitors annually.

guy friend * sheds two tears*
We needed some space, both very confrontational with other people but we weren’t with our own issue…initially when everything was going downhill with us, I was trying out different medications for my depression and anxiety, while i was on them, I WAS NOT MYSELF.
One of the weirdest feelings i’ve ever felt. Anyways it was easier for me to let the relationship go at that time than fight for it…mind you for me he wasn’t growing and I was getting tired of the same cycle of pulling up to each others houses, and taking an adventure around town to smoke and meet up with the next peron/ group of people…to do the same damn thing. I had just moved back from Sf and was dating A GROWN ASS FUCKING MAN, that put my mental ON GAME,.. so ya girl was ready and eager to GET SHIT POPPING OFF. That’s where my mental was but the more I fell back into our high school routine + his 4 years of the same boy problems, my depression and anxiety was REALLY triggered…hence me losing myself and allowing things to go to shit on my end.
But NOW I MISS MY FUCKING NIGGA, bad. That WAS my ride or die. In every sense of the word, no matter what time of the day i could call him up and we would link. The only guy I felt 1010% myself around. No judgments, a little bit of secrets that slowly showed faces, and a bond that was beyond this world.
I wish straight niggas made relationships easy.

“Moving Forward XIII” New never seen photos of Johnny were shared by Pantheon Art on their official site.
> When it was taken?
Although was not said when it was taken, it seems that it was originally taken sometime between October and early November 2020, while still in London, sometime while filming for the “Fantastic Beasts 3” or after being forced to quit from his role as Gellert Grindelwald. That’s why we still see him with blond hair and mustache and painted nails of the same color we saw on November 11 and 13, during his three-day deposition in Reston, Virginia, USA.
Three photos can be found on the site: One for mobiles, the original with no edition which was replaced later by the one edited focusing only in Johnny.
> About Johnny’s collaboration:
“New art has been developed with Johnny Depp as a prelude to the ‘Character Beyond Celebrity’ collection. Johnny has chosen to donate his entire proceeds from the sale of these artworks to charity” ~ Pantheon Art.
The UNIQUE painting was created by the British artist Preston Jones, who has worked several times with Johnny to raise awareness and funds for major charities. Titled “Moving Forward XIII”, it was created in 2020 in Lascaux acrylic paint, 16 silkscreen layers and halftone on hand laid 12ct white gold leaf. Paper: St. Cuthbert’s Waterford (NOT) 640gsm handmade 100% cotton rag. It measures 85 x 85 cm. (33.5 x 33.5 inches.) According to the “Artnet.com” this painting was already SOLD. It seems that the unframed coasted £3000 ($4180) while framed £3750 ($5230)
The painting was also autographed by Johnny in a blue marker pen.
- Description of the art by Preston Jones:
“The stimulus for this work was a photograph directed by Johnny, working with his longtime friend the photographer Ross Halfin. Standing strong, leaning forwards, with his eyes firmly fixed on the horizon, the image gives human shape to his creed, 'Just keep moving forward and don’t give a shit about what anyone thinks. Do what you have to do for you.' Characteristically bedecked in his favourite colour, black, with a cap, scarf and guitar strap, Johnny is instantly recognizable. The layers of his ‘costume' are a visible signature of his style of dressing; and maybe a way to draw attention to his clothes rather than to himself. He’s famous for not enjoying the adulation that comes with being a Hollywood star. He considers himself shy, and highly values his privacy. That’s visible in the art. He’s focused on his own thoughts and not playing to any audience.”
> About the Project: “Character Beyond Celebrity” Collection. Certain stars have been embraced by the world because of their personal character, beyond their roles and celebrity status. These stars have typically made a mark in many fields – not just acting or music, but also sport and business – and have a depth of character that their audience engages with. The “Character Beyond Celebrity” series focuses on these iconic stars and portrays them in a series of artworks that captures their true personality. Pantheon are working closely with these subjects to create a world class series of original, unique silkscreen portraits that are often hand embellished by the celebrity and endorsed with their signature.
> About Pantheon Art: The Pantheon is a fine art studio and gallery focused on creating original, unique works of art and very short run limited editions. Founded in 2019 by the creative partnership of Barry Jones and James Preston, the studio specializes in collaborative art with celebrities who are famous in other fields such as film, music and sport and most notably known for their ongoing studio work with Johnny Depp. In these projects, Pantheon combines the talents of photographers, graphic artists, illustrators, printers and often the celebrities themselves.
> Charity: Pantheon has a philanthropic mission, and in our major collaborative projects with celebrities we make substantial donations to charities chosen by those celebrities.
> More information coming soon. On the site, it’s been said that Johnny’s page is “In Development” meaning that maybe more creations will be revealed. Along this that was sold, it seems that there are at least two others based on “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” and another based on “Dior Sauvage” and probable a video of the moment Johnny was autographing. But some people on Instagram and Twitter have been relating that the Pantheon Art was asking them to delete their posts because “the project has not been launched yet”… Ok. But the image was sold, and Johnny’s photo is already on the site… So...

R.I.P. Little Richard
Rock and Roll pioneer Little Richard died today of bone cancer at age 87. Richard was mentored by Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the foremother of rock when he was a teenager in the 1940s. She allowed him to open her shows and inspired him to become a professional. Ike Turner's intro on "Rocket 88" gave him the motivation to become a piano player. Richard had a few bands and recording contracts with RCA and Peacock Records before he signed with Specialty in 1955 and that year he had his first hit with "Tutti Frutti." His success continued in the '50s with "Rip It Up," "Long Tall Sally," Lucille," "Keep A-Knockin'" and "Good Golly Miss Molly." His influence was immediate and The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Gene Vincent, The Everly Brothers and Eddie Cochran covered Richard's songs. Ray Charles, James Brown, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding and Bo Diddley all recognized Richard's contributions to music. Brown said that Richard put the funk in the rock beat. The screaming, wild hair, colorful makeup and androgynous appearance was an archetype that would later be emulated most famously by Prince.
His rise happened during segregation in America but Little Richard became one of the first Black artists to crossover and reach white and Black audiences in concerts and on the charts. He was recognized for this achievement in 2015 by the National Museum Of African American music. Little Richard's religious beliefs made him leave secular music for a while in the late '50s but he returned in 1962 and the following year he saved a failing tour that featured The Rolling Stones, The Everly Brothers and Bo Diddley. The success of this tour led to him getting his own TV special The Little Richard Spectacular that was so popular that fans wrote 60,000 letters and the show was rebroadcast twice. It was during the '60s when Jimi Hendrix joined Richard's band briefly before leaving over money issues and competition over the spotlight.
Little Richard left music again in the '70s to be an evangelist and released a gospel album God's Beautiful City. His interviews revealed a lifelong conflict about his sexuality; he referred to himself sometimes as gay and omnisexual but denounced homosexuality later in life. He would have another comeback in the '80s after Charles White released an authorized biography about Richard's life. Richard appeared in the movie Down and Out in Beverly Hills and wrote a song with Billy Preston for the soundtrack. He did more television and film and was quick to tell everyone about his influence on the contemporary artists of the time. When Michael Jackson purchased The Beatles' publishing Little Richard's was included and Jackson gave it back to Richard. In 1990, he made a guest vocalist appearance on Living Colour's "Elvis Is Dead."
In 2000, Leon played Richard in the biographical film Little Richard. He gave his last concert in 2014 and that same year he was portrayed by actor Brandon Mychal Smith in the James Brown biopic Get On Up. In 2017, he did a televised interview with Christian Three Angels Broadcasting Network. Although he was in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame's first class of inductees and received other awards like the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993 he was still not as famous as his white contemporaries. Richard's rock blueprint was far-reaching and Andre 3000, Bruno Mars and Chris Cornell are just a few more artists to have been influenced by him. In 2019, Maggie Gonzalez of Macon, Georgia, Richard's hometown, started an online petition to have a statue erected on him. Little Richard also received the Distinguished Artist's Award at the 2019 Tennessee Governor's Arts Awards.

If camp camp characters were TF2 characters, who would be who?
EYYY cross over of my two favorite things!! a really forced one...but yayyyy
it’s kinda hard to compare the personalities of a bunch of crazy mercenaries and children in a summer camp...so they’re just the kinda play styles I think they’d have!
Max: Scout. VERY aNGRY. Yells at his team all match and takes the credit if they win. If someone doesn’t directly pocket him, he throws. kinda toxic not gonna lie.
David: Engineer. Pray you dont have to play with him. builds dispensors and hides. Do NOT conga!! HE WILL NEVER STOP. Cries if his stuff is sapped or destroyed. Should play medic but its too stressful and people keep yelling at him.
Gwen: I legitimately have no clue. Pauling?
Nikki: Pyro. Heals????pshhhhh don’t need em. Really chill player but terrifying to the other team. Gets overly excited. Doesn’t spy check enough.
Neil: Medic. Poor boy gets bullied into playing support every time. Very anxious and angry when the team is loosing. PARANOID of spies and yells at Nikki to check every 5 seconds. Hates cosmetics. Kills a surprising amount of people.
Nurf: Heavy. Bullies Neil into pocketing him. Actually very positive to team. HEY ONLY HE CAN BE A DICK TO THE MEDIC! Very mediocre Heavy, nothing too special but he gets the job done.
Nerris / Harrison: MERASMUS! YES! JUST BECAUSE OF THE MAGICS! They’re two kids in a trench coat, Harrison holding Nerris on his solders. They fall over a lot. BUT FEAR THEIR POWER!!!
Dolf: Medic. Not just because he’s German!! I just think that he’d be an amazing medic and would support his team real good but also be really scary to the blue team. Says kinda creepy things when he heals someone. Gets way too into character but he’s good! DO NOT BULLY THIS MEDIC!!
Space kid: Soldier. Just because they both have domes on their heads and yell a lot. yep. Uses the rocket jumper, jumps all over the place. Doesn’t care about winning, just wants to have fun!
Preston: Spy. Really likes acting to be the opposite team. Not too good at it but he’s passionate and that’s all that matters! Does weird yells when ever he tries to back stab someone and dramatic monologues when he dies.
Ered: Sniper. Reaaaally chill. Pretty good sniper. Thinks his shades are totally cool. Has all the coolest cosmetics and looks funky fresh every game.
Daniel: Spy. Ok this one is obvious. KNIVES. He is fucking terrifying. Invincible. Likes spooking David out and destroy everything he builds and back stabs while he’s emoting. Wayy too good at disguises and fools everyone.
Jen: idk? I don’t know anything about Jen she had like 2 seconds of screen time? She probably has a fuck tone of cosmetics and looks sweet every game.
Campbell: SAXTON HALE! Literally only difference is Campbell would not think twice before fighting a child.
Quartermaster: Demo. They’re both cyclopses! Instead of a sword he uses the pink dildo.
this answers way too long. ^

February and March have been such busy month for me. Thought I really need to tell everyone my busy schedules the fun time I had with my friends, kids and family!
Month of February
Birthday
February is my birthday month – sigh, another year older, nothing like a kid’s excitement when it’s his/her birthday, just hoping people do not squeeze to get me to tell my age… then followed by comments like ‘you look REALLY good for your age’! Enough the sympathy, I just don’t like to be reminded of my age that’s the truth. I didn’t do anything fancy on the actual day of my birthday, just took a day off on the day, enjoyed the luxury of dropping off kids at their classroom and managed to pop in an exaggerating smiling face to the teacher. Typical working mum guilty syndrome all over… I’ll stop here, otherwise it will be the kids or work talk again, the never ending working mum’s dilemma! Anyway, on my own birthday, I just really enjoyed the moment of fulfilling a mum duty that otherwise not possible on a normal working day for me…… Then on the Friday evening, I had a lovely meal with my dearest friends at Frankie and Benny‘s. Cocktail on offer – Hooray to my dearest friends! What do you do for your birthday? I’d love to hear your story about how to celebrate your birthday – just to give me some more ideas! Please leave your comments below to let me know!
Birthday cocktail!
Scotland
Then there’s the excuse to visit my in-laws in Scotland because of my birthday. Kids are always looking forward to see their cousins in Scotland. When my kids and their 3 cousins gathering together, 3 girls and 2 boys are always having so much giggling about everything! It’s so lovely to see the kids having a lot of fun but it also makes every departure a difficult one as they are so fond of each other’s company. This time round, grandma Maggi suggested a swimming fun at the Double Tree Hotel by Hilton Strathclyde. What a lovely hotel! Even though my favorite hotel is under the MacDonald group that not only I had my 40th birthday there, we also booked in a MacDonald resort in Malaga, Spain! But Double Tree by Hilton is a good one, particularly the nice pool with Jacuzzi and sauna room along side the facility. It provides plenty of way to play with kids as well as a chance to enjoy yourself!

NCT
As a charity volunteer, I devote some of my time to NCT (National Childbirth Trust) Preston, Fylde and District branch on a regular basis. I organise a group called NCT Stay and Play Group. It welcomes all parents, grandparents and carers alike with their kids to join in. The February group was taken place at Ham and Jam Cafe, a very family/kids friendly cafe located in the city centre of Preston. This month we were lucky to have a face-painter coming along and lending a hand to the group. She’s from from a local kids holiday club business called The Nest. My son M is sooo happy to have his face painted. Theme?! Ehhh just a green robot will do!
I have a robot face!
Book of the Month
February is also a book reading month! I was very happy that I finished a book – Water Witch by Carol Goodman. This is the 2nd book in The Fairwick Chronicles Series. It was recommended by a friends of mine, although it has an incubus as the centre of the story, who is a demon creature by nature praying on women to fall in love with him so he can turn into human shape. The whole story is rather romantic as Callie (the Water Witch) discovered herself really fall in love with him and he was willing to sacrifice his life for her in the end (ops, hope I didn’t ruin this for you for those who still want to read it yourself!) In the story there’s also a fairyland – Fay that Callie found out that she is the door keeper between the human world and the Fay. Creatures good or evil all played an important part in the story. I truly enjoyed this book and hope you would give it try here as well!

Month of March
NCT NNS
Through hard work and sheer determinations, 5 dedicated women volunteers (including myself) successfully delivered the charity NCT Sales (we called it Newly New Sales – NNS) on 11th March. The sales provides all parents and carers alike the opportunity to buy quality ‘nearly new’ children items, from clothing to toy, from cot bed to pram system and so on and on. We had about 100 sellers happily sent their items to sell at our NNS and an overwelming 250 buys turned up on the day. The chair lady Kate stayed almost 10 hours from the begining to the end. The sales generated about £3000 pounds of sales and 25% of the profit went to the NCT Headquarter! Well-done to all the ladies Kate, Emma, Natalie and Lorren, of course there’s myself. I managed to sell cupcake and hot/cold drink at the sales and raised £88 within 1 hour and half! Hooray!
Sadly our NCT Preston, Fylde and District branch is losing its chair ladies and facing closure after many years of hard work. The branch is still seeking for a new chair volunteer (until 1/05/2017) to take over and if you are interested please contact the branch’s Facebook page here!
NCT cake sale
Hobby Craft
March is also a month running up to the preparation to Easter. I have discovered Hobby Craft has so many decoration and craft idea for Easter! They also have a ‘100s of lines at £1‘ sales on right now. I have got myself plenty of supply for kids to do their craft this Easter holiday break! Looking forward to the crafty fun! My girl B is always fond of making things, I also found their Easter bunny making a particular art project for her. Find out from their website and give it a try yourself!

ILM Course
Another thing worth mentioning here is I had a huge relief that I completed one of the biggest tasks I have to do for my ILM NVQ course. Phew! ILM is short for Institute of Leadership and Management. I feel extremely proud to be part of this and is studying toward a valuable qualification awarded by this reputable institute. Delivered by Preston College as an apprentice program, I will gain a Qualification on Principle of Leadership and Management as well as a NVQ Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management, double awards that’s the bonus! Although writing thousands of word on assignment isn’t exactly a fun task, I found the group discussion gives me so much inside about management! A guy called Garry told us how bad management could nearly cost him an electrocution death sentence -what the heck! Yep management IS really important in his company that’s for sure! Then again, I had to stand in front of the tutor to give presentation using the PowerPoint file I created myself, reciting all the words and try not script reading, a total challenge for me! I enjoyed the experience, particularly released when I received a few ‘good pass’ on the feedback mark sheet. Hours of practice has eventually paid off!
If you are interested in management theory or simply interested to know what ILM is about, please get in touch here, I will send you my PowerPoint presentation to you as a free resource, all you need to do is to get in touch and let me have your feedback!
ILM – Institute of Leadership and Management
Windermere Treetop Nets
We have been to Brockholes Windermere a few times, but never tried Treetop Nets until this March. It happened to be one of the rainy days, yet the kids enjoyed the 3-meter high up play in the trees (rain wasn’t heavy and stopped eventually!). According to their website, they are a UK first treetop adventure. Adults and children alike can all play in the walls of netting up and down the slide, kicking a ball or two, chasing around each other without any safety hazard. In the past when we came to Brockholes Windermere, most of the activities we do are walk around garden and the little children park. This is because most of the activities here are adventurous and targeting to older age children or adult. This is the first time M could join in as Treetop Nets accepts kids from age of 3 and above, so he pretty much enjoyed the ‘big kids’ game this time!
Mother’s Day
Last but not the least it’s about my Mother’s Day Sunday. I had a well-attempted ‘serving-mum-breakfast-in-bed’ style treat from my 10-year-old daughter B. Never mind fairy cake for breakfast, I got buttered toasts made by B herself with no help from daddy, plus some nice chocolate flower buds and a lovely heart-shaped balloon with a bear mum and a bear kid! Only my 4-year-old son M was too eager to ‘try’ the flower buds, that he forgot to leave one for his big sister… ‘all tried and they taste good’ he told B!!!(I was trying very hard not to laugh out loud…)
How’s your Mother’s Day Sunday? Would love to hear about your treat! Please leave your comments below.
Mother’s day treat
That’s it from me now, hopefully I will be back here soon to tell you all about my Easter!

PB Protégé Tuesday: Jennifer R-Goberdhan
Dear Readers,
I am very excited to share with you the work of 2 time PB Protégé, Jennifer Goberdhan from Trinidad & Tabago. In the photo above she created a large statement piece using the mechanics learned in the Protégé Intensive Workshop. Here is what she had to say:
“The PB Protege workshops have given me the skill and confidence to logistically install my designs and walk away without reservation knowing that my mechanics are sound. This has inspired my One-of-A-Kind Design business model where I never repeat a design for my clients. As a result, when I implement what I have learned, the results have been remarkably stunning and very well received by my clients and fans of my work.
The tools and knowledge imparted in the Business class have positively impacted my business and Social Media presence with approximately 42,000 followers on Facebook and 3000 + strong on Instagram to date. Needless to say, my business has grown tremendously as a result and I am now sought as a Speaker and Presenter at various Conferences and Bridal Expos.
After attending your Protégé Workshops I was finally able to leave my full-time job last year July 2016 and focus on my business exclusively and I have never regretted that decision even for a moment. Preston’s mentoring, advice, kind hearted and selfless nature have been a life changing experience for me. I owe my success in business to him!”
We love to see how PB Protégés take the mechanics learned in our courses to create their own designs.
You can visit Jennifer Goberdhan Weddings website here.

LGBT And Pride Events Around The World In 2017
Are you ready for another summer of love? 2017 is a great year if you’re a LGBTQ traveller. There are all sorts of fantastic parties set to take place around the world during the summer months. And beyond. As there are so many to choose from, we’ve put together a handy guide to this year’s Pride festivals. Here’s our pick of the hottest, sexiest and most fabulous Pride events and gay-friendly festivals taking place this year.
Heading to any of them? See all our Pride city break deals.
World Pride Madrid
23rd June – 2 July 2017
Courtesy worldpridemadrid2017.com
Madrid’s annual pride celebrations are among the world’s biggest. More than a million people regularly attend the celebrations, held in the city’s gay neighbourhood, Chueca. But in 2017 the celebrations are set to be bigger than ever, as the city has been selected to host the fifth WorldPride – the global LGBTIQ Pride festival.
Among the events planned are massive pop concerts in 5 of the city’s historic squares, including Plaza De Espana and Puerta Del Sol. The festival culminates in the WorldPride Parade, which takes over one of Madrid’s main streets, the Paseo del Prado. And the party isn’t just limited to the summer – there’s plenty going on in Chueca’s queer scene throughout the year.
One of the area’s biggest celebrations outside of the summer season is the bear community’s annual winter party. Taking place over the December bank holiday weekend, Madbear offers five days of parties, and the finals of the Mr Bear Spain competition.
San Francisco
24th – 25th June 2017
SF Pride, photographed by Vicki Thompson
Even bigger than Madrid’s regular Pride celebrations, San Francisco’s Pride might be the world’s most popular Pride. Now in its 47th year, its also one of the most inclusive, with more than 200 groups taking part. Originally just a one-day parade, taking place on the last Sunday in June, San Francisco Pride is now a weekend long festival.
Separate Trans and Dyke Marches take place on the Friday and Saturday. The city’s famous gay neighbourhood, the Castro District, holds the Pink Saturday party the day before the parade.
Several other LGBTQ events take place in the city throughout the year. One of the most famous, and notorious (it’s definitely an adults-only affair) being the Folsom Street Fair. The September event is a gathering for the BDSM and leather subcultures, with around 400,000 enthusiasts regularly attending.
New York
25th June 2017
New York is arguably the birthplace of the Pride movement. The city’s Christopher Street Liberation Movement sprung up in response to the 1969 Stonewall Riots, gradually turning into Pride as we know it today. New York’s Pride celebrations haven’t lost their political focus, with its events aiming to inspire, educate, commemorate and celebrate the diversity of the LGBT community.
The importance of the city’s Pride is reflected in its prestigious speakers at its Parade. The accompanying Pride Island and Pride Festival also offer starry line-ups, with 2017’s performers set to include Leanne Rimes and Tegan and Sara.

2017 is a very important year for the LGBTQ community in the UK, marking the 50th anniversary of the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality. Organisations like the National Trust and the Tate Britain gallery have been holding events and exhibitions throughout the year, looking at the history of LGBTQ culture in the UK.
And this year’s Pride in London is set to reflect that, with a packed programme of events taking place over two weeks in late June to early July. Among the cultural institutions taking part are the British Museum and the National Theatre, which is staging a season of some of the most important queer plays. The Pride Parade itself takes place in the West End on Saturday July 8th, passing through Regent Street, Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square on the way to Whitehall.
A Pride Festival will then take place in Trafalgar Square, and at clubs around Soho. The celebrations continue the following day in Vauxhall. The area’s famous Pleasure Gardens host an afternoon of free festivities, including UK Black Pride and the Pride in the Park music festival.

The UK’s biggest Pride Festival takes place in Brighton during the first weekend of August. Following a Carnival of Diversity Parade, which brings a riot of colour to the seafront promenade, the festival kicks off in the city’s Preston Park. With several stages, dance and cabaret tents, Brighton and Hove’s Pride Festival regularly attracts big name performers. This year it’s headlined by The Pet Shop Boys and Years and Years.

Manchester’s Canal Street is one of the UK’s most popular gay neighbourhoods. And the city’s annual Pride celebrations are similarly vibrant. Held over the August Bank Holiday weekend, Manchester Pride includes a Big Weekend Festival. 2017’s performers are set to include Clean Bandit, Faithless and Melanie C.
The city’s Pride Parade sees more than 3000 participants bring a bit more colour to the city’s streets. And the weekend culminates in a moving candlelit vigil in the city’s Sackville Gardens, commemorating those lost to HIV and AIDS.
Belfast
28th July – 6th August 2017
Ireland’s biggest LGBTQ celebration, Belfast Pride regularly attracts a crowd of 50,000 people. Running from late July to early August, the festival centres around a parade through the city.
There’s also plenty of other things going on during the 10 day festival, including cabaret shows, art exhibitions and the Belfast Pride awards – celebrating the contributions of the local community.
Barcelona

As one of Europe’s most popular LGBT resorts – the town of Sitges – is just a short drive away, Barcelona’s annual LGBT celebrations are particularly vibrant.
More than 250,000 people are expected to attend Barcelona Pride, with the city’s historic L’Eixample district temporarily being renamed Gaixample. Alongside the traditional parade and parties, Barcelona Pride also offers art and cultural events focusing around a different theme each year. In 2017, the theme is LGBTI phobia in sport.
If you’re looking to party, the Barcelona Circuit Festival is the place to go. Taking place over three weekends in August (5th-20th August), the festival features some of the best DJs and parties from the international gay clubbing scene. It celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2017 with a special XXL edition. Meaning there’ll be even more seriously hot beach and pool parties than ever before.
At the start of September, Sitges gets a bit more fabulously furry, with the arrival of the International Sitges Bear Week.
Mykonos
23rd – 30th August 2017
Another of the gay scene’s hottest festivals can be found on the island of Mykonos. Already a popular destination for LGBTQ travellers throughout the summer, the Greek island now really hots up during the last week of August. The XLSIOR Festival (23-30th August) brings together crowds of 30,000 for 8 days of parties and clubbing.
Hosting some of the biggest names in the Gay Circuit scene, the festival has won several gay travel awards.

Paying direct tribute to New York’s place in gay history, Berlin Pride is also known as Christopher Street Day. It culminates in a parade to the city’s famous Brandenburg Gate, and is attended by hundreds of thousands of people. While the parade is at the centre of the celebrations, the Pride festivities in the city have now grown to take place over the course of a month, with cultural events happening all around the city.
You can also experience a bit of the San Francisco scene in the city at the Folsom Europe fair. Like the San Francisco original, Folsom Europe is aimed at the leather and fetish subcultures. It takes place in September each year, around Berlin’s main gay neighbourhood, Schöneberg.
Mallorca
31st August – 7th September 2017
Now in its fifth year, the ELLA International Lesbian Festival offers a week’s worth of events for gay women. Taking place in the island’s capital, Palma, during the first week of September, the programme includes beach parties, club nights and circus performances. Other highlights include sailing trips and a winery tour.
The festival also has a Winter Edition, taking place over the New Year weekend.
Amsterdam
4th – 6th August 2017
Milkshake Festival ®Dennis Bouman
For just over a week in late July and early August, Amsterdam hosts some of the most exciting LGBTQ events in the world. The Milkshake Festival takes place over the last weekend in July, in the city’s Westerpark. Co-organised by two of Amsterdam’s biggest clubs, AIR and Paradiso, its one of the most inclusive music festivals around. Encouraging its attendees to be themselves, it’s a wild mix of drag, performance art and world-class electronic music.
Throughout the following week, Pride Amsterdam brings a colourful cultural programme to the city’s streets and squares. And even its canals, as Amsterdam’s Pride Parade replaces the traditional parade floats for colourful barges, floating along the city’s waterways.
Reykjavik

Reykjavik is one of the world’s most gay-friendly cities. In fact Iceland regularly tops surveys of the best places in the world for LGBT rights. And this is reflected in the city’s Hinsegin Dagar (Queer Day) celebrations, which attracts crowds of 200,000. Past Hinsegin Dagar celebrations have featured appearances by some of the most influential people in Icelandic society.
In 2016, the then-newly elected President of the country even took part in the parade. The annual outdoor Pride concert features some of the best acts from the local music scene. Towards the end of the month, another gay celebration takes place in and around Reykjavik. Bears on Ice is a weekend-long gathering which includes bear-centred trips out of the city to some of Iceland’s famous sights. It also includes a party at the famous Blue Lagoon spa.
