another ask because this is the only way I know how to contribute to the Maxicest/ScarletSilver fandom (wish i could do more but college is p a i n )

but imagine if Pietro and Wanda just came out and told everyone they're dating/in love (whether as a joke or if they're being serious or idk) I am willing to bet a majority of their friends/coworkers/acquaintances/enemies would either be like: "we knew lol" or "you haven't already???" or be supportive or neutral to their relationship.

But I'm wondering... how would Magneto react? How would Lorna react? How would Magda/Marya/Natalya and Django react? (if they were alive to see it) How would Vision or Crystal react?

Hell, how would Billy and Tommy react? And Luna too? (marvel pls bring her back :((( plsss)

i feel like in the current SW&QS comic run, there will probably be some in-universe comment/rumors that since are Pietro and Wanda are together again, that they are together.

ah i think you're more charitable than i am... i don't think most people who know them would be okay with it. they all probably know to varying degrees -- especially their close friends -- it's the deniability that saves it for them, that makes them able to ignore all of it. the avengers (the ones that are close to them, that is) all know, all have seen the twins in weird situations, but they've gotten very very good at looking away. none of them want to know. i think they'd be highly uncomfortable if they came out with their relationship officially, because that'd mean they can no longer ignore it, y'know? i don't think most would start a fight about it or a confrontation or anything, but they'd get weird around the twins.

(on a side note, i think clint is one of the people who'd get actually angry for a while lol. that moment when you're bisexual and your two crushes are dating etc etc. also i think carol would ask wanda if she's alright, if pietro's forcing her into anything, which would make wanda really mad. janet i think is smart enough that she's realized for a long time they're in love & knows something like that isn't going on but she wouldn't be very comfortable, either. the one i think who's most likely to "accept" it is actually tony bcuz i think he genuinely wouldn't give a fuck lol)

that aside! now for the ones you actually asked about lol. ah it's difficult.

magneto - depends on when he'd find out. during brotherhood times, i don't think he'd care, because he didn't really care about them to begin with. once he finds out they're related, at the very beginning, i think he'd be appalled but there isn't anything he can do about it, since he's an absent father trying to reconnect and has no rights to his children. once they're in the family dance for a while, he's grown a bit demanding, esp towards pietro, if that makes sense? so i think he'd probably argue with them about it lol. i don't think he'd like it, not so much bcuz of personal disgust, but mostly bcuz of optics. but also bcuz he has a desire for his children to live normal, happy lives (as much as he has trouble showing them that normally lol) and i think he'd think that would interfere with that. he's also very good at ignoring it, however -- before he'd officially find out, ofc, but after, too. he just conveniently "forgets" it. maybe starts introducing both of them to other people. they hate it.

lorna - i think lorna knows. i think she's known for a long time and while she was disgusted by it at first (and also strangely jealous; she doesn't want either of them but they've always been so close and she never had that. she doesn't have a sibling that's primarily hers, if that makes sense) i think she came to terms with it over time, enough so that she'd be pretty alright with it if they went official.

i honestly don't know about magda, django, marya and natalya... i think magda would have a lot of compassion after everything they've been through, but would treat it as an unfortunate side-effect of all of the twins' trauma, if that makes sense? she loves them a lot, though. the rest of them i don't know. i can't see any of them liking it, but marya and django might just be happy they're both alive and happy, you know? i feel like natalya would want more for them, similarly to magneto, bcuz she doesn't quite get it. but no one does. so yknow.

so billy and tommy are their kids. we know this. i think tommy wouldn't care, tbh. i can't see him being fazed or disgusted by it, also i think he'd be happy to find out pietro is his dad. they already get along, and he doesn't have a lot of people who care about him, and who want to spend time with him (vision never did lol). idk about billy..... i think he dearly loves them both but i think he might just think wanda could do better (lol). i think he'd be vaguely uncomfortable, but pietro would never play dad if billy didn't want that, so i think they're fine-ish? he'd probably get used to it eventually even when he's not thrilled. idk if he'd ever see pietro as his dad. also i think he's also known for a long time but he hasn't gotten over it like lorna has.

as for luna....... honestly she's genuinely a weird kid. she can see people's emotions & i can't see her caring much about "human" taboos. she's from a royal family, and her aunt's husband is also her aunt's (distant) cousin. i think she'd be fine, lol. she can see the love between wanda & pietro -- and tho she probably didn't realize (or didn't want to; bcuz that'd make things complicated) that it was romantic, too, she'd be relatively fine, just happy that her father's happy. she's long since been over crystal and pietro's marriage, so that doesn't bother her, either.

It turned out, training in the Cruicible - with the heat of the silver smelters blistering her skin as she fought fistfight after fistfight - prepared her well for the Hells. The cambion Conrad looked back at her, expecting the fires of Avernus to make her flinch. Instead, she smiled, closed her eyes, and welcomed the almost familiar smell of fire and ash. "Thought you said it'd be miserable?" she asked, opening her one good eye, amusement dancing like a spark there.

He growled and tugged on the magical leash attached to the metal collar at her throat - she stumbled, but recovered quickly enough for her dignity to remain intact. They were in some sort of temporary campsite, at the edge of a bloody battle being raged ahead. The latest skirmish of the Blood War. There were such a mix of characters around her - cambions, lemures, imps, demons and devils of a dizzying array, as well as those snatched like herself from Faerun, human, tiefling, elf, dwarf.

Conrad was interested in none of it, and brought her before a single-horned red tiefling standing on a lip of blackened molten rock jutting out from the ashen surface and threw her to the ground with the leash. She scrunched up her fists and tried to get back to her feet, but felt the leash holding her down.

"Say, Karlach," said Conrad, casually, "What do you think of my new warhound? Isn't she a beast. Took down a dragon all on her own." Fingers curled around her chin to show the tiefling the scarring across her face, still fresh and red and raw. "She's to fight with you. Zariel's orders. Do make sure she gets a good weapon before she goes out so she can survive the night - I like her bite."

Then the leash, and Conrad, was gone, leaving Breina swearing at a spot of ash that and eyeing up Karlach wearily. "Are all cambions dickbags like him, or did I get unlucky?"

What's one scene that your most excited for in your MattPeter fic?

it's hard to pick just one because i have so many.

- mj domming matt bc matt can't let himself be with peter bc he feels like he doesn't deserve him.

- the utter train wreck that is matt/foggy and their affair that's lasted since college.

- peter and mj teaching matt and milla how to dance for the wedding, then not being invited 💔.

- i had thought about having matt try to hook up with guys after breaking up with foggy, and then being frustrated because they couldn't keep up with him lol. then lamenting to milla and milla being sympathetic, but also like 😎 bc she and mj are giving each other the strap.

the scene where Wuvvy rips up the letter Rue wrote to Hob after the masquerade is actually super interesting to me because it feels like another moment that really highlights the difference in how Rue and Hob approach their courts -- both of them do feel a sense of alienation from these places and people, but it's also Starkly obvious that Rue is far more isolated in that than Hob is.

Hob and the other goblins stand at a distance from each other in how much they understand one another, but Hob also still clearly has people in his court that he trusts and depends on even in just minor ways, but this scene in particular really makes it feel like Rue only knows the people in their court to invite them to the Bloom. Even if they thought to hesitate before sending that letter with Wuvvy, it doesn't matter bc they truly don't have anyone else to ask.

Cuando escribes alguna historia, ¿te gusta pensar en qué patrones de habla tus personajes tendrían si los escribieses en tu idioma? ¿Qué personajes te imaginas que usan mucho "slang"?

finally getting around to answering this but! i am using this to share more about the characters of IWSY! because yes.

i've actually,, never really thought about my characters speaking cantonese before, bar one character? but i specifically made her because i wanted to see myself and my origin in a story, and she's for a very different story i haven't talked about on this blog. for the IWSY characters i've never done it before, but tbh it's comforting to think about it. i'm gonna put the rest under a cut because this is pretty long.

the baby group is the easiest to answer for. they're all intended to be kids (or, well, 'kids.' relatively speaking.), so slang is going to be pretty common for them, especially slang that's currently used. anything vulgar is free game, but really it's just about like. modernity, i guess? my classmates were very crass when talking to each other LMAO and that's kind of how i think the baby group would be. loud, chatty, every three words a slang term is thrown in, etc. des and prayer i think are the ones to use the most slang as well. des because... des. i don't know how to explain that, it's just right, and prayer because it will Absorb whatever it hears into its vocabulary. so in a way it's des' fault i guess FKJGS

i don't actually have examples of the slang they'd use because i myself don't know jackshit about the slang because i live under a rock 👍 but that's how innocence is as well. they and moth use slang the least, but they don't Not use it. these two are just generally the quietest, and cantonese is. ah. loud. :D it depends obviously! but cantonese is definitely part of those languages where if you're talking cheerfully and excitedly someone that doesn't know the language might go 'hey why are you arguing?' and that's definitely a thing that des and prayer and grace, sometimes, will run into, but usually innocence and moth are quiet enough that it never comes up for them.

silver is the one who uses the ~fancy~ words because he's a fucking nerd. everyone makes fun of him for it. they love him but they dunk on him for it fJKNJKSD but he'll fire back readily, it's all in good fun. second place for fanciness would be grace, but silver definitely wins on this front. they're both pretty eloquent for sure, and would just know more literature and so more, like, idioms than the rest of the baby group. silver just does it more, and grace does it when he's being dramatic. though granted, he's dramatic pretty often.

night is just chill, as it usually is. it and innocence are just chill vibes generally, with moth usually in that corner as well. night isn't quiet though, that's something else. just chill. probably has the nastiest mouth though actually. night would curse your family out in a very mellow tone and not bat an eye :D

as for day, she's much, much older, so her speech patterns are going to be more reminiscent of someone who's approximately in their 60s. her pronunciation will be different, with less 'lazy' sounds, so like there's a more clear separation of /l/ and /n/ phonemes and also the nasals are more distinguished. she also, by default of being older, sounds a bit more fancy, like she's sometimes. less direct about what she means i guess? but it's also because of how much she knows and the experience she has. she's easy to talk to still, she just markedly talks Different because she communicates with what is common in her generation. it's basically like talking to your grandparents. i guess. actually idk if that's applicable generally, but for me talking to my grandparents was always a little different. something something chinese culture i guess, idk. also regarding slang, idk she probably uses slang from her generation. no idea what it'd be though.

for reference, the approximate human ages i'm working with here have innocence as around 19, the triplets (des, silver, and night) being 18, grace and prayer being 17, and moth being 20, almost 21. these are Very rough approximations that don't match up to the actual age difference between these seven. day is somewhere in her... early 60s i guess? mid 60s maybe? to compare with the timescale in rain world:

unparalleled innocence — first came online in late 1515 clandestine question, nine silver linings, no mournful night — came online in mid 1522, in that age order. they were turned on only a few cycles apart each, so they consider each other to be the same age mist on the horizon — came online in 1503 gracious mercy — came online in early 1529 one final prayer — came online in late 1528 delight of day — powered on in 808

for reference, pebbles came online in 1509. these 8 are all part of the final generation, while day is part of gen 1. also, my generations are probably pretty different compared to a lot of other people's headcanons. moon and wind are gen 18, sig is gen 19, and suns is gen 10. there's more generations and different generation cut offs. the point here is that day is Very, very old, and the baby group are really really young.

anyway i know i'm not saying anything new but i rly wish we lived in a culture with a greater emphasis on like... critical reading and poetic/metaphoric literacy?

idk i just don't think that every time i say lolita is one of my favorite books i should have to add the caveat of like "but i don't condone ____!" or have to clarify that i'm talking about metaphors when i say incest can be a really important theme worth exploring.

it's not just that it's annoying on a personal level but also that it's reductive on the level of a literary politic that uses taboo to deconstruct or reimagine power in really significant ways!

transgression is a tool! discomfort is a framework! roll in it, writhe in it, bask in its light!

       Jack sat cross-legged on his bed in front of the radio, quietly listening to the static as he turned the knobs through multiple different frequencies. Listening for something. Anything. A turbulent year of existence within the New Orleans QZ, watching it morph from a genuine attempt at infection control to a military state all of its own, would have anyone thinking that there was nothing else out there. Jack knew differently; he'd snuck out and back in again on multiple occasions ( though flooding that resulted from abandoned flood defences had hampered his efforts to traverse much of the city ), and knew that there was more out there than anyone on this wretched continent knew what to do with. Even before the outbreak, he'd never done well confined behind four walls, and fortunately his attempts at bringing contraband in from outside into the QZ had certainly made him a valuable asset in certain influential circles.

       That was what he needed to be for now. Valuable. It was his means of remaining freelance and negotiating his own terms, rather than being inducted into the machine that was FEDRA on account of his particular skillset. More than a civilian, but not yet a soldier. Jack wished for things to stay that way for as long as possible.

       The sensation of arms slowly wrapping around him from behind disrupted his reverie. Jack turned his head, making eye contact with Isabela, still half dressed, and half asleep by the look of it, and a small smile crossed his face. “ You know, if Luis succeeds in getting me onto FEDRA's payroll, this, ” he gestured between them, “ will become even more difficult. ” And yet, the thought didn't deter him. He turned on the bed to face her properly, fingertips trailing along her bare leg as he caught her gaze again with a knowing look. “ And I have a feeling you'd enjoy that even more. ”
