With the onset of the monsoon water has been accumulating at different places, sparking fears of a dengue outbreak. Panic has already set in and residents want SDMC to step up its act. They are demanding routine checks of parks to control breeding early on.
In Dwarka, there are about 500 parks — those up to 3 acres are under the SDMC and others belong to the DDA.
Dustbins in the parks, bottles and glasses — all kinds of litter — can be potential places of water accumulation, and therefore, must be cleared out by the authorities.
President of Gangotri Apartments in Sector 12, Umesh Kala, said, “Mornings and evenings are the worse — it’s difficult to stay in the parks because of mosquitoes constantly biting. The corporation should take up fogging immediately.” Vice-president of New Millennium Apartments in Sector 23, MS Suri, said, “Last year, couple of dengue and chikungunia cases were reported from our society. Most people feel parks are the problem. There’s standing water everywhere — the civic bodies must look into it.”
SDMC mayor, Narender Chawla, said he would look into the matter promptly and initiate preventive measures.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has come strongly reprimanded Noida Authority and Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) for their inability to control pollution levels in Noida.
Residents of high-rise societies in sectors 74 to 77 had filed a case against both the bodies for not taking enough measures to curb pollution.
The hearing was held today and presided over by NGT chairman Shawtantra Kumar.
Dhananjay Kumar, who had filed the case and is a resident of Grand Ajnara Heritage in Sector 74, claimed during the hearing that Noida Authority was busy filling its own coffers by fining builders but not really doing anything to curb pollution in the city.
As evidence, he produced two videos before NGT.
In one, the builder is seen using dengue-infested drain water to sprinkle the premises of Grand Ajnara society and nearby areas. A shocked NGT ordered Noida Authority to take action against the builder.
For the past one week, air pollution levels in Delhi-NCR have hovered around “severe”, and NGT has promptly ordered all civic bodies to take suitable action to curb pollution in their respective areas.
But all Noida Authority has done is slap a fine to the tune of Rs 96 lakh on more than 50 builders!
In what could be a game-changer, Kumar added, NGT has asked all officials to produce an action plan and detailed reports before it, failing which the tribunal will fine the officials 10 times more than what the builders were fined.
Rajesh Kumar, officer on special duty (OSD) of Noida Authority, confirmed that NGT has ordered action reports to be produced before the court tomorrow.
"We will inspect the society, and will take action against Ajnara builder if found guilty,” Kumar added.
