Ten New Restaurants To Try
Tumblr media
Grizzeldas is a new Mexican restaurant located in East Austin. Their menu boasts some traditional Tex-Mex fare like fish and beef tacos and guacamole, but also includes unexpected dishes like brussels sprouts and cauliflower. With an extensive drink menu and happy hour 5-7 p.m. everyday and all day Sunday, Grizzeldas is a perfect place to try for great Mexican food and drinks.
What I’m getting: guacamole and ceviche mixto.
Paul Qui’s new restaurant Kuneho is located on East Sixth Street and is Japanese fare. The menu is wide ranging, but focuses on small bites and sushi. There’s also a full bar in the restaurant called The Borough. Kuneho is a great place to go for upscale, delicious sushi and Japanese food.
What I’m getting: atun poke and crunchy salmon roll.
EastSide Tavern is a new laid-back barbecue restaurant in East Austin on Cesar Chavez. While serving traditional barbecue fare like brisket, pulled pork, sausage, and more meat, EastSide Tavern also has sandwiches, salads, and frito pie. Throw in a lengthy drink menu complete with beer, wine, and barrel-aged cocktails, and this rustic tavern is the new place to be.
What I’m getting: loaded BBQ baked potato with brisket and pickled deviled eggs.
DeSano Pizza Bakery comes to Burnet Road from Nashville, where it was named the best slice of pizza in Tennessee. The menu contains pizza, meatballs, calzones, and more. All the ingredients are pure and high quality, and flown into Austin weekly from Italy to make the Neapolitan pizza truly authentic.
What I’m getting: the Bianca pizza- pizza with garlic and four types of Italian cheese.
Eberly opened in late 2016 on South Lamar, and features contemporary American cuisine. Using local Texas ingredients, Eberly serves a variety of meat, fish, and sides, like steak frites, redfish, and brussels sprouts and cauliflower. Cedar Tavern, the bar portion of the restaurant, serves a different menu that includes pizza and more traditional tavern food, as well as a great assortment of drinks.
What I’m getting: shells & cheese and braised short ribs.
Tillery Kitchen and Bar is a new Mediterranean-style restaurant in East Austin that opened January 13. Offering lamb fritters, pasta, salads, and more, the food sounds amazing- as does the location. You can sit outside or in the window-filled dining space- either way, you’ll be getting an amazing view of Austin.
What I’m getting: lamb fritters, citrus chicken skewers, and the flight of homemade ice cream.
Aviator Pizza & Drafthouse has expanded from Elgin, Texas to South Congress, and is shaking things up with interesting pizza combinations. Pizzas with names like Bacon Double Cheeseburger, Chicken Fajita, and The Greek populate the menu, although sandwiches, salads, and calzones are also available. With house-made sauces and fresh dough, Aviator is the new pizza place to check out.
What I’m getting: the South Austin pizza and Zilker salad.
From the co-owners and chefs of Ramen Tatsu-ya comes Kemuri Tatsu-ya, a “Texas-influenced izakaya” to East Austin. The menu is full of innovative fusion dishes like octopus frito pie, guacamole poke, and smoked brisket. Kemuri Tatsu-ya is an interesting and exciting fusion of Japanese and Texas food worth giving a try.
What I’m getting: Tokyo street corn, “hot pocketz”, and guaca-poke.
El Burro is the new restaurant on South Lamar from the creators of Vox Table, and it’s a Mexican restaurant and bar. Using local fresh ingredients, and serving up classics like fajitas and enchiladas, as well as craft cocktails, El Burro is sure to become a staple for great Tex Mex food in 2017.
What I’m getting: elotes and the carne asada taco dinner.
Old Thousand brings Chinese food to East Austin, but in a modern way. There are classics on the menu transformed with new ingredients, like creamy dan dan noodles, kung pao cauliflower, and sunchoke fried rice. With both dine-in and take-out menus, Old Thousand presents a fun new take on Chinese food that’s worth checking out.
What I’m getting: brisket fried rice and dan dan noodles.
