By 2006, some 1,700 Bnei Menashe had moved to Israel, where they were settled in the West Bank and Gaza Strip (before the disengagement). They were required to undergo Orthodox conversion to Judaism, including study and immersion in a mikveh. The immigrants were put in the settlements as these offered cheaper housing and living expenses than some other areas.[33] The Bnei Menashe composed the largest immigrant population in the Gaza Strip before Israel withdrew its settlers from the area.[34] Now they are mainly concentrated in Kiryat Arba, Sderot, Beit El, Ofra, Nitzan, Carmiel, Afula and Maalot.[35][...] Ofir Pines-Paz, [Israeli] Minister of Science and Technology, said that the Bnei Menashe were "being cynically exploited for political purposes."[37] He objected to the new immigrants being settled in the unstable territory of the Gaza Strip's Gush Katif settlements (which were evacuated two years later) and in the West Bank. Rabbi Eliyahu Birnbaum, a rabbinical judge dealing with the conversion of Bnei Menashe, accused the Knesset Absorption Committee of making a decision based on racist ideas.[37] At the time, Michael Freund, with the Amishav organization, noted that assimilation was proceeding; young men of the Bnei Menashe served in Israeli combat units.[36][...] In March 2004, Biaksiama [of the Aizawl Christian Research Centre] appeared on television, discussing the issues with Lalchhanhima Sailo, founder of Chhinlung Israel People's Convention (CIPC), a secessionist Mizo organization.[39][40] Sailo said that CIPC's goal was not emigration to Israel, but to have the United Nations declare the areas inhabited by Mizo tribes to be an independent nation for Mizo Israelites.[41] The region has had numerous separatist movements and India has struggled to maintain peace there.[...] In September 2005, a task force from the Chief Rabbinate's Beit Din (rabbinic court) traveled to India to complete the conversion of a group of 218 Bnei Menashe. Maria Tripodi ha guidato la delegazione italiana alla terza edizione della CICPE di Haikou Il Sottosegretario degli Affari Esteri e alla Cooperazione Internazionale, Maria Tripodi, ha guidato la delegazione italiana alla terza edizione della China International Consumer Product Expo (CICPE) di Haikou (Cina), la più importante fiera cinese sui prodotti di consumo cui l’Italia partecipa in qualità di Paese ospite d’onore. Si è trattato della prima visita di un membro di Governo italiano in Cina, dopo l’interruzione legata alla pandemia. Il Sottosegretario Tripodi ha partecipato all’inaugurazione della fiera di Haikou, cui hanno preso parte anche il Vice Presidente della Conferenza Politica Consultiva del popolo cinese, Wang Yong, e il Ministro del Commercio, Wang Wentao. Nel corso della visita il Sottosegretario Tripodi ha avuto un incontro bilaterale con il Vice Ministro del Commercio, Sheng Quiping, con il quale si è discusso dell’importanza del rilancio dell’economia a livello globale e dell’approfondimento delle relazioni economiche e commerciali tra Italia e Cina. Il Sottosegretario ha inoltre sottolineato l’importanza del mercato cinese per le esportazioni italiane, il secondo extraeuropeo, il primo in Asia, come dimostrano i livelli record dell’export 2022 (16,4 miliardi di euro). Il Sottosegretario Tripodi ha anche rimarcato la necessità di riequilibrare la bilancia commerciale, migliorare le condizioni di accesso per le imprese italiane nel mercato cinese e tutelare la proprietà intellettuale. La missione nell’isola di Hainan è proseguita con l’inaugurazione dei padiglioni italiani. L’Italia ha partecipato alla fiera con un padiglione istituzionale organizzato da Agenzia ICE in collaborazione con la Fondazione Altagamma e un altro padiglione coordinato alla Camera di Commercio Italiana in Cina insieme a Bologna Fiere, cui si aggiungono stand di singole aziende. Alla CiPCE erano presenti oltre 100 marchi italiani, a significare l’importanza anesa al mercato cinese. Il Sottosegretario Tripodi ha sottolineato come “le aziende e i marchi italiani presenti alla Fiera quest’anno sono rappresentativi dell’eccellenza del Made in Italy in numerosi settori, dall’ automotive alla nautica, dalla moda alla cosmetica e all’agroalimentare. Il Made in Italy è un marchio che raccoglie in sé alcuni tratti distintivi riconosciuti da tutti; stile, originalità, qualità. I prodotti italiani sono sempre più apprezzati dai consumatori cinesi, come dimostra il valore record del nostro export in Cina 2022”. Il Sottosegretario ha infine inaugurato il padiglione dell’Unione Europea, dedicato alla promozione e alla protezione delle Indicazioni Geografiche, tarmi oggetto di un accordo tra UE e Cina entrato in vigore nel marzo 2021, nel quale l’Italia detiene il primato per prodotti protetti.... #notizie #news #breakingnews #cronaca #politica #eventi #sport #moda Read the full article
