Winter’s Veil Gifts: The Maybrookes

A box wrapped in simple brown paper arrives for the Maybrooke household. At the very top of its contents sits a cream-colored notecard writ in shimmering blue ink:

Happy Holidays! Don’t be afraid to reach out if you need anything. — Mozelle

Immediately beneath this is a sturdy pastry box, its interior generously cushioned with waxed paper, containing a brown sugar pecan pie in a buttery crust. To the side of this box is a tin of two dozen star-shaped shortbread cookies dipped in white chocolate.

In a lumpy package done up with shiny silver wrapping and a purple ribbon, addressed to Adamara, is a scarf crocheted from yarn dyed Kirin Tor violet.

Lily’s gift, done up with the same silver wrapping but tied with red ribbon, appears to be a kit for making beaded jewelry: containing a compartmentalized box with a latching lid stocked with sturdy twine and colorful beads, a pair of safety scissors, and a single-tiered wooden bracelet stand. There is a dearth of instructions.

Declan’s gift gets a buttercup yellow ribbon. It is a small stack of illustrated children’s books, including the ever-classic The Worst Mage in Dalaran - A Children’s Book, a translated version of The Saurok and the Jinyu, as well as several murloc-related stories.

Each child also receives an envelope containing ten silver.

Miriam’s gift is tied up with pink ribbon and the box contains an assortment of bits and bobs; a pair of hair scarves, one pink with red cherries, the other cerulean with white flowers; a set of measuring spoons with heart-embossed handles; a trio of scented candles, one smelling like a cinnamon roll, one like lavender, and one like a pine tree; and a box of bite-sized treats from a Stormwind confectionery.

Vanilla crème-filled chocolates; fudgy brownie squares with soft red icing and a strip of cream cheese buttercream; sea salt caramel-filled chocolates; and strawberry cheesecake bonbons.

♛ : Sharing a dessert

Kang was in the Swedish Councilman’s suite that day after having paid a visit to the kitchens to beg the new head chef for some desserts that he could bring up to his friend. After meeting Bjorn and having the Councilman tell him to visit Jaden more often, the kirin decided to do so the next time he had some time to himself. It was not often, but he made it happen. He knew how much his friend enjoyed desserts after all.

Opening the box that was set on the dining table, he presented Jaden with a selection of four different desserts: a chocolate lava cake, a cinnamon sugar donut, a raspberry and hazelnut brownie and triple chocolate cookie. 

“I think I got what you liked,” he said as he peered into the box. Kang was a fan of chocolate himself, so he was more than happy to take the ones Jaden was not keen on.
