justine makes it her mission to find and wed a wealthy prince or lord — not because she wants to, or that she’s in love, but because maybe then, it’ll be enough to get their father to leave poor lucy alone and allow lucy to thrive and be happy with whom she truly loves aka: angelica schyler syndrome

when she and lucy are revived by the magic — it’s not so much the death she vividly remembers as it is the anguish she felt watching her sister stricken. she harbors a lot of guilt that she wasn’t faster, that she didn’t grab lucy and place lucy behind her own body so that it was she who’d take the hit. it was her job as elder sister to protect her, and she failed miserably. but now that they have this second chance at life, justine will make certain that she never fails her sister again.

though justine often half - heartedly scolds lucy’s wild ways and lewd comments, she adores it. not just that, she admires it. she admires how freely and boldly lucy is herself. and she gently chastises her not because she finds fault, but because she knows the world is cruel and will find fault, and justine would sooner meet the fate of stepmother’s blade than allow the world to beat the whimsy and joy from out her free - spirited sister
