Reluctant Reader Wednesday: QQ Sweeper Vol 1 by Kyousuke Motomi
Fumi Nishioka has a Cinderella dream, in which a rich Prince Charming will financially support her and solve her problems. But for now, she’s sleeping in an abandoned area of her new school, because she has nowhere else to live.
Kyutaro Horikita (aka “Q”) is a quiet boy with a secret life. He and his father (the principal of the school) are “sweepers.” This means that they have the ability to see magical doorways and the strange creatures that come through them. It also means that they can use cleaning techniques as well as positive energy to drive away the darkness created by these creatures. Because even though most humans cannot see these creatures, their darkness can still have toxic effects.
When Q meets Fumi, he discovers that she also has the ability to see these doorways and creatures. When Fumi moves in with Q and his father and joins them as a “sweeper,” her life is entirely changed. She’s no longer homeless, she is joined with a new family, and finding a new purpose in life makes her start rethinking those Cinderella dreams.
