It’s You (Rick Flag x F!Reader)
Requested by anon: You should like, do this one: “You would risk letting all those people die for one person? Why?” “Because it’s not just one person…it’s you.” with Rick Flag
Prompt List 2
Main Master List
Warnings: Language, blood, gore
You slightly stumble as the building continues to shake around you, coating you in a thin layer of dust, but you don’t mind. No, you need to get to him before it’s too late.
After DuBois had shot Peacemaker, you were quick to rush down the stairs despite the protests that came from your friends. Using your powers, you easily dodge the rubble as you round the corner and see a familiar flash of a yellow shirt.
“Shit,” you run over to Rick, a morbid feeling rising up your throat. Am I too late? You drop to your knees and grab his face, pressing your forehead to his. “Rick. You gotta wake up. Please, wake up,” your powers surge through your body to his, trying to repair the damage. “Rick, wake up!”
His eyes shoot open in pain, his chest slowly pushing out the shrapnel as he frantically searches around the room. You’re quick to ease him, shushing him and protecting his large frame from falling debris. “What’s going on?”
“We need to get out of here, but you have to stay still. Got it?” He nods, still in a daze as he looks around, noticing how everything was falling around you two.
“You need to get out of here. Leave me. You need to help them.... help them save the city,” he groans in pain as you take his right arm and sling it over your shoulder, carrying his weight.
“You’re the one who said ‘we don’t leave one of our own behind’,” you trudge the pair of you through the rubble, but Rick’s foot gets caught on a rock and he trips, sending him down as he clutching his side, the shrapnel almost fully out.
“Just leave, I’m as good as dead. You need to leave,” you shake your head, pulling him out of the way of falling cinder blocks and to a little spot for cover. Kneeling down, you yank out the rest of the porcelain and immediately place your hand over the area, cringing as Rick screams in pain.
“I’m going to get you out of here, let me help you,” his hand shoots up and grabs your wrist, his eyes looking you over in agony because he knows. He knows the chance of him and you surviving together is very slight if you continue to help him and he wouldn’t live with himself in the afterlife if he let you die trying to heal him instead of saving others.
“(Y/N), you need to get out of here. They need you out there.”
You shake your head, wiping away the sweat and tears. “I’m not leaving you here and that’s final.” You look over his wound and note that it’s almost close. Moving your hand over to his neck, you make sure his pulse is strong enough to  move him.
“You’d risk letting all those people die for one person? Why?” He allows you to help him up though he feels slightly stronger than a minute or two ago.
“Because it’s not just one person, Rick. It’s you,” you admit and Rick’s head turns to you in shock. What does that mean? “Look we can talk about this later, but we need to get out of here. Now.”
----------
Your leg bounces on the plane as Rick lays next to you on a stretcher, securely tied down and shutting his eyes. When everyone came back to the building to see you sitting there with Rick laying in your lap, they were shocked and happy. But now, it was a long haul back to the states where uncertainty awaits the Suicide Squad.
“What did you mean?” His voice is groggy and deep, cracked from lack of water and dust but it still causes butterflies to flutter in your stomach.
“What?”
“You said ‘it’s not just one person, it’s you.’ What did you mean?” His hazel eyes open and look at you expectingly as you sighed, looking around the cargo plane and taking note that everyone is minding their own business before looking down at Rick. Carefully, you take his hand and hold it between yours, looking him in the eye.
“I mean, I didn’t care to save those people, all I wanted was to save you.”
“But why? Why me?”
“Because I- I love you. I’ve been in love with you for years now and I just couldn't live with myself if I didn’t at least try to save you,” you look away, avoiding his gaze as embarrassment creeps up. What if he doesn’t like you? What if to him, you’re just another criminal. And Rick’s soft sigh seems to confirm your thoughts.
“Sweetheart, look at me,” you quickly wipe away a tear before turning back to your Colonel who sports a soft smile. Bringing your hand up to his lips, he places a soft kiss against your skin that has those butterflies dancing in your stomach.
“I’m glad you decided to save me, wanna know why?”
“Why?” You voice shakes with anticipation. Rick smirks.
“Because I’m in love with you too.”

Primal Passion (Trinity Masters #2) - Mari Carr and Lila DuBois
I once again told myself I was going to branch out in my reading, only to be confronted with multiple series (fantasy, scifi, historical, romance). But I did read a few good nonfiction books (mostly of the memoir persuasion).
I also had more rereads than the two listed here (aka when I lost my mind after The Raven King, I reread all of The Raven Cycle and maybe dipped my toes into the fanfiction world).
There was no Reblog Book Club this year, and I only halfheartedly followed along with Emma Watson’s Our Shared Shelf (Persepolis was the only one I’d picked up that I hadn’t already read from that list), so I didn’t have a lot of guided books. I didn’t even bother with most of the monthly books offered at work (other than Baby Doll and Towers Falling, which were ARCs at the time, but I totally recommend).
Highlights from this year really only include going to Grace Helbig’s signing in Boston, and then Mara Wilson’s book reading in Cambridge. I wish I’d been able to go to the 2nd NerdCon: Stories, but failed to get my planning together due to life (though I’ve got my ticket for NerdCon: Nerdfighteria in February). Looking ahead to next year, I already know I’m going to be caught up in a couple more series, though I’m going to make an actual effort of tackling the unread books on my shelf first.
