Fun Fact
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Communications and Informatics has blocked the Tumblr site because it contained 60 sites of terrorism, extremism, and pornography in 2015.
I’ve been feeling super rusty with my art, and honestly no surprise, given that I rarely draw at all these days. I wanted to draw and not have much of a plan or goal in mind besides, well, drawing. Wanted to try something new, scrub off some rust, do my best to not fall into my perfectionist streak and instead just... explore?
This took way longer than I would have wanted, but I’m pretty happy with how it looks and how loose I felt for the most part while creating it. And hey, its fanart no less! If you haven’t, please consider playing Masquerada: Songs and Shadows. The game is really good and it deserves more attention.
I finally finished the second Masquerada Fan Art I made. It has some perspective issues, but at least I managed to finish it as well... I am still not confident working on paper this large.
So I've got this new amazing game I'm addicted to. Masquerada: Songs and Shadows is visually a stunning game with a great story! I'm already quite far, but at the same time I don’t want it to end.
Also finally getting back into digital stuff, I'm actually quite pleased with how this came out
EDIT: I changed his facial proportions, it looks so much better now!
Every time I see Matt Mercer's name I immediately think about Masquerada, which is sad because unfortunately I am only one of five people in the Masquerada fandom and yet I still punch the ground every time I think about Cicero Gavar
Tumblr STILL can’t let me have a photoset and a song in one post. So here is the song (’Broken Clay’ from official soundtrack): https://soundofjw.bandcamp.com/track/broken-clay
Soooo....ermmm...now...Argh. It’s an old enough pictures, but i won’t to complement or correct them. May be, one day I will redraw it, but definetely not now. Because when I was drawing it, I was under feeling from such beatiful, ineresting and, for my opinion, brilliant game. I’m playing a lot of games, and I admired all of them, but Masquerada admire me objectevly. It has logic, interesting and unexpecting plot (thousands thanks to the scenarist!) and logic lively characters. I believed them. I believed that they feel pain, sorrow, believed, they don’t know what to do.
Also this game have a very amazing visual and sound.
Masquerada appeared suddenly in my life (thanks to @solanj) and suddenly became one of my favorite game. I would like to thank Witching Hour Studios for such brilliant story and I hope that Masquerada 2 someday will emerge.
Sometimes I really want to read a short summary of what to expect from a game with a very particular description that CATER to my OWN SPECIFIC interests, so here we go.
what to expect from MASQUERADA: OF SONGS AND SHADOWS
isometric rpg where the rpg element is just the fighting class (mask) you choose
This is actually a visual novel masked as an isometric rpg because there is NO CHOICE. The dialogue is a video playing, basically. Exploration is going from point A to point B, no possibility to interact with the world or the people
You play as Cicero Gavar, ex exiled guy back to solve a mystery
Detective/mystery story with some lore exploration and big betrayals
Basically like watching a movie where now and then you have to fight
A lot of lore drop. The world is low fantasy Renaissance, with a lot of specific terms that are abundantly used and only vaguely explained
Found family trope is the heart of this game
Exploration of Cicero’s thoughts through the codex (Cicero’s diary) which has to be read to better enjoy the story
Interesting characters and amazing voice acting
A lot of drama, maybe too much
Incomplete game. The big enemy and the big questions have no answer and there’s no info about a sequel
Great family of characters, also a gay character in the game
plot? Cicero has to come back and find out who is sabotaging the city, he collects his new found family
gameplay? you watch the movie, and you fight now and then, and then you click from point A to point B
characters? the best part of the game. Each character in the party has a lot of dialogue and an interesting backstory and quest
sadness level? I’d say high, but it’s over done a bit.
happy ending? deaths? (spoiler under cut)
Cicero is the protagonist of a fanfic I could have written when 14 years old, but with better writing. Everyone around him dies, and he gets sadder and sadder.
Also he is slighty homophobic, and the gay character in the party (Kalden) has to teach him NOT TO.
Plus: bury your gay trope. Kalden’s husband is dead and Kalden’s side quest is about him being a closeted homosexual with a dead husband.
so, according to steam, it’s been exactly a year since i first played @MasqueradaGame. since then, i’ve played it through about six more times. it feels a bit like some reflection may be in order:
this has been a rough year for all of us - but if i think about it, so many of the bright spots in it for me happened because i picked this game up a year ago.
@MasqueradaGame is beloved among my friends & i. it’s a vital, compassionate story about grief, survival, queerness, family - shared with generous, empathetic hands. it’s a story that urges the player to hope, to be kind, & to believe in small acts of heroism.
it changed the way i see myself, & how i interact with the world around me even as so much of that world bends in crisis. i feel beyond grateful to have been even a small, small part of supporting this story that i respect so fiercely, with people i admire even more.
i enjoyed it very much, and i’ll never forget it, or all of the love it’s brought into my life. <3 thanks, team.
