#chy vs the trap fic

WIP...Saturday?

@statichvm tagged me a few days back (thank you! <3), and since I'm still chipping away at the Trap fic's Ch. 4 and closing in on the end of edits for it, I definitely wanted to share a little more:

Peering over the driver’s seat from her spot in the back, she watched the construction yard come into view. Paths almost haphazardly circled the place, running rings around the building square in its center, as the dirt paths merged into the road leading onto the grounds.

An ATV roared past them, nearly clipping them on the way in, and judging from the trucks parked outside it was active as ever. Whatever they had been moving out before - supplies, people, weapons - they’d have a shot at now, and a quick radio call on their end helped make it clear that they wouldn’t have to deal with it alone for long.

Ducking back down, Hana passed some extra shells to Kat, and traded a quick look with Grace as she fiddled with her gear to get her rifle into place.

Grace had already been looking her way, skeptical for damn good reason, and seconds away from telling her to stay put. It would’ve been a rough order to follow if she had, one Hana would’ve been doomed to break, but Grace remained silent as the wheels slowed to a stop, her mouth set in a hard line.

There wasn’t much she could say in this moment to ease the pressure, but as the countdown in her head wound down to zero, Hana flashed her a wink. Then jumped to join the others in busting out of the back of the van.

WIP Wednesday / Snippet Saturday?

@aceghosts was kind enough to tag me this past Wednesday, and since it's Saturday and I'm chipping away at the Trap fic I definitely wanted to see if I could share a bit!:

Hana never thought she’d ever find a bar stool comfortable stone cold sober, but at the Spread Eagle she took up one the seats located in the back , and didn’t want to leave it.

“That’s for you.“

A bottle of everclear hit the counter with a solid thud as Mary May placed it in front of her, and Hana couldn’t help but let out a sigh of contentment at seeing it.

“Hell, watching you walk through that door in one piece’s earned you half of the entire fucking thing if you want it.”

A glass hit Hana’s hand and she cracked the bottle open in record time. “God, yes.”

“Good. Now could someone catch me up on what the fuck is going on?”

Mary May’s eyes jumped between the two, lingering first on her, then Jerome, but quickly focused on her again.

Hana smacked her lips before she started filling the shot glass to the brim. “ You, uh, want the long or the short version?”

Now that it’s no longer 2 AM, and things are looking a bit clearer, I’m going to see if I can marathon edit this thing by 6 PM, because if things go mostly according to plan I might be actually able to post?

There’s nothing like editing a chapter and just hitting the halfway mark to be reminded of just how damn long it turned out to be to begin with. :’)

But soon. I’ve got work to sneak in, and a small shindig to have later, but I mean it this time. By the end of today, I’d really like to be able to post this chapter, and then start digging into things down the line further.

When I first started drafting Hana's next big fic and it looked like it was going to be at least five to six chapters, I told myself it would be much smarter on my end to write it out in full before posting. That'll help with plot holes, underdeveloped scenes, characterization questions, just the works, and hopefully cut down on potential dead-ends too.

... But with roughly 2.5 chapters of it down now, that urge to post is kicking in with a vengeance, and who knows when the rest is going to be done. :')

“You’re right,” she said, her voice trashed as she met Grace’s eyes in the mirror. “I’m awful at this, but you’re still the better shot by a landslide.”

I love how I blinked and it was suddenly 12:35 AM again, and now it's even later than that. DX

I've been fighting a bit with a sequence at the start of the Trap fic's Ch. 3 for a couple of days now, and while I like what's there, another part of me's wondering if I should just make another draft of it and just tear it apart to see if I can make a better jump off point for it. If it's been giving me this much trouble so far something's got to go, and that's the only way I'll feel comfortable enough to shuffle things. 🤔

So progress there's been slow going unfortunately, but I did add some fun stuff to the Hana/Sharky one-shot separate from it which I'm excited about, and there's always Ch. 2... which is pretty high in terms of word count at the moment like 7K high and cutting it up to make it shorter just doesn't feel right.

But that's something to try and tackle tomorrow once work eases up, and I can focus on it without slides dangling over my head.

Eyeing the radio, she grabbed for it. “Sharky, are we on?”

“Yo, we’re motherfucking on! Had to clear out those Peggies first, ‘cause no way are we having a barbeque with any of them wanting in on it, but it is on, and man, Peggie shit lights up mighty nice when you need stuff to burn.”

“That is music to my ears right now, you have no idea,” Hana replied, stealing a quick breath.
