BSD 109 SPOILERS!!!

Seriously read it first don't spoil yourself it's amazing it will ruin you and your life.

Okay now that that's out of the way, I will literally NEVER shut up about BSD 109 ever, and specifically about Dazai. This is not a serious analysis, just me being in pain because what the fuck.

Now before anything gets said, a few points :

He will survive. He's the plot, quite literally, and I have seen a lot of people point out the fact that his character arc isn't finished yet, and I totally agree- Asagiri is extremely careful with his plot devices and writing, so I'm pretty sure he wouldn't just cut Dazai's arc right in the middle like that. Tons of people have made several analysis on this, and again, I 100% agree with that.

A lot of people have been theorizing that the bullet in his head is not real, and that Chuuya stopped it with gravity. I agree with that- it makes sense, and would be the best way for Asagiri to 'save' Dazai from his situation.

Biology majors have made several panel analysis explaining that the spots Dazai got shot in are, in fact, non-lethal. Even when it comes to the head injury, the bullet wouldn't go as far as completely killing him, but instead harming parts that would have to do with memories and planning (not gonna get technical because it's definitely not an area I'm comfortable in, I'm a literature major ffs, but the arguments have been made).

Okay, now that these are out of the way, can we just talk about these panels for a minute, because there is so much to unpack. The shot in one the previous chapters in which Dazai kinda just, pathetically drags himself and his broken legs to a camera was bad enough, because we know Dazai hates pain. He endures it, but his whole thing is that he's looking work a way to die painlessly. And in this chapter, well. Not only has Dazai been waiting a while in there, while Fyodor and Sigma were speaking, but his whole interaction with Chuuya is SO much. From the way his eyes lighten like never before when he tries to convince Chuuya to come back, to Chuuya just not being there- I think that overall, Dazai didn't believe a second that Chuuya would come back. I mean, he looked mighty confident there, so either the situation is completely out of his control, which I doubt, because come on, it's Dazai (but I would love if it was the case because Dazai loosing composure has to be the most interesting thing ever), either he did have a plan that involved making his 'death' convincing to Fyodor.

Now, back to that pain thing. I think the worst part was the face he makes while yelling at Chuuya after Chuuya takes the first shot- he is in SO much pain (also I looked it up and the bullet did hit super close to a nerve so he might have a severed nerve I'm unwell). And then the head bullet hits, and the two other- he must have been in so much pain. The way his eyes are light but in a different way as he (falsely or not) realizes that this is It. The way one of his last words is 'finally'. He doesn't even get to finish his sentence, because he passes out before that. It was all so much.

Anyways this post is a mess but who cares I needed to put those thoughts somewhere because I didn't feel a think after 101 except for a oh, that happened, kinda feeling, but 109 had me sobbing. Genuinely crying, out loud, hugging my pillow. I really hope Dazai's gonna make it. Just imagine Atsushi, Aku, Kunikida and Chuuya's reactions if he doesn't. God fucking dammit.

Beast AU where N survived the events of Storm Bringer in this world and went into hiding again afterwards. The reason Chuuya has so much animosity towards Dazai is because he kept promising they'll go looking for him one day and put an end to him, but Dazai never makes good on that promise.

He always has an excuse, "When I'm executive, I'll have the means to find him.", "Once I'm the Boss." until eventually its just "Later." as he becomes more and more wrapped up in saving Oda. In Chuuya's mind, this get interpreted as Dazai not caring anymore and it messes with his head. He decides that one day he's going to end Dazai too, but not before he makes good on his promise.

Then Dazai dies. Throws himself off a building and makes sure Chuuya wasn't around to prevent it.

He finds out Dazai named him his successor and not only that he left an envelope for him. It contents are N's location. And Chuuya loses it.

After the rampage, after the government subdues him and the Port Mafia- his Port Mafia- gets him out again, Chuuya finds N, has him dragged to headquarters.

This was supposed to be the moment Chuuya finally gets closure, where he finally ends N and prevents him ever hurting anyone else again. Dazai was supposed to be standing at his side when it happened.

But Dazai's not here.

And N can fix that.

So he gets to live, until he does.

Regarding Chuuya in BEAST Movie :

Disclaimer, I haven’t watched the movie, but there’s video of Chuuya scenes that I’ve watched.

The event 6 years ago, the dragon head conflict.

Chuuya went to Shibusawa on his own in what appears to be an abandoned building. Shibusawa had dragons after him, and he’s hiding behind pillars. Even so, Dazai was also there.

They bickered. 

C : Why the fuck are you here? If I’m dead you’d be an executive, you know.

D : Don’t misunderstand Chuuya. I’d be an executive even if you’d lived

C : WHY DO YOU ALWAYS SAY ANNOYING SHIT LIKE THAT

D : Really? Sorry, I never noticed. (with hand clasped and head a bit bowed and obviously sarcastic)

They run around together, and then Dazai commented that there’s a way to beat Shibusawa. That is, Arahabaki. There’s nothing that can survive Arahabaki, but when Chuuya asked about the catch, Dazai confirmed that unleashing Arahabaki would kill Chuuya.

Chuuya then commented back that it means Dazai got nothing. Dazai continued that he’s there because he can cancel Arahabaki, and Chuuya wouldn’t have to die. Chuuya of course, doesn’t believe that he would.

Dazai agreed that it’s hard to believe him in this kind of situation, so he stabbed his own thigh. 

Dazai : I’ll protect this world. For that, I can’t let both Port Mafia and Chuuya die.

There’s nothing said about why Dazai did, but Chuuya finally reluctantly agreed, telling Dazai to not die of bloodloss. Dazai told him to go get them, similar to how he encouraged Chuuya to beat Lovecraft during the Three Company Conflict.

The aftermath.

Chuuya is tied up and chained after having gone on rampage, and requested to see Atsushi. When Atsushi greeted him with ‘Chuuya-san’, he snapped at him to call him Boss since he’s the Boss of Port Mafia now. But Atsushi is no longer part of Port Mafia, so he won’t abide to that.

He quit just as Dazai wanted him to.

Chuuya asked bitterly who the fuck Dazai is.

Atsushi asked if he went on a rampage until caught and chained up like this by the government because Dazai is dead. 

Chuuya told Atsushi that he’s the one who’s supposed to kill Dazai. He’s just the worst person, and Chuuya felt horrible all the time with him as a partner, and he angrily claimed he held out for seven long years. He’s been looking forward to the moment he can kill Dazai. But he died,　just like that, without ever telling him why.

Atsushi asked for his reason to summon him. Chuuya told him that he has a job for him. He doesn’t want Atsushi to be his man, he wants Atsushi to be his eraser and erase the Detective Agency from the map and phonebook. In other words, from existence. He said those who killed the previous boss can’t be left alone like that, or the Mafia’s prestige would be dragged down through the mud.

Atsushi claimed that he’s only in the Mafia because Dazai was there, meaning he couldn’t care less about Mafia now. When he’s about to leave though, Chuuya commented about how Kyouka agreed to his order. Atsushi claimed that he feels Chuuya wanting to wage war against the detectives is well within Dazai’s expectation, implying that even if Kyouka agreed, he still wouldn’t.

Chuuya laughed.

He told Atsushi that if thats true, then that would mean Dazai should still be alive when Mafia and Detectives are going after each other.

Chuuya : Or what? You don’t want to take revenge for Dazai?

HOLY SHIT CHUUYA.

This is painful. The ending is painful.

It’s been a long time since I got goosebumps watching or reading anything and it’s because Chuuya, the ‘YO I POPPED UP 89 YEAR OLD WINE TO CELEBRATE YOU LEAVING MAFIA’ and ‘IMMA FIND YOU A SUICIDAL LADY IF IT MEANS YOU DYING SOONER’ dude to literally literally went mad after Dazai is dead. He lost his mind. 

I have no words. 

The interesting thing here is that in Dragon Head Conflict, Dazai had to convince Chuuya to use Corruption, where in the flashback from Dead Apple, Chuuya used it of his own volition out of rage from having his men killed. Dazai’s declaration also meant that he already knew of original Dazai’s memory since that long ago, or maybe since even before. 

Also, I’m not sure of the whole movie, but beside the two scenes I’m describing in length, Chuuya was always dismissed by Dazai. First is on the scene when Atsushi is reporting to Dazai, and Chuuya is suspicious of him, but then Dazai told him to leave the room so he can have private talk with Atsushi. The next is during unspecified time in which Dazai is just zoning out and literally ignores Chuuya when he’s trying to talk to him.

That guy went from being considered important in Dazai’s world (albeit to protect Odasaku) to literally made to feel inconsequential. Dazai just died, as if nothing matters anymore. The reverse of hatred isn't love, it's apathy and realizing Dazai didn't even care about him broke Chuuya.

BEAST Chuuya is now a lost cause, and I imagine it’s easy for Fyodor to use him at this rate. It’s not beyond imagination for the reverse of canon to happen now, with Fyodor releasing Chuuya from his prison and Chuuya deciding to just use Arahabaki as the last fuck you against Dazai. 

If Dazai wants to protect the world, then Chuuya would destroy it.

BEAST universe isn’t going to last long.
