You know what.
I'm so, so glad that Ichijiku is treated as a proper character instead of being reduced to her body and sexualized like it's so often the case for this type of character.
Yes, she is smoking hot, yes boobs, yes we're all on our knees for her; but she's not portrayed not in a male-gazey way at all. She only dresses for herself and doesn't give a shit about how others view her. She does her thing and is just out there wearing her low cut top that shows her Chuuoku boob tatoo..... So powerful
That's how you build a character instead of Anime Milf for Men n°2736289191281💅

Everything about Ichijiku is Anime Milf for Men n°2736289191281 and it worries me that you can't see that. She is absolutely portrayed in a male-gazey, overly sexualized way. She's not drawn with her boobs out to show that she's a strong, powerful woman who doesn't care what other people think - she's drawn that way to appeal to men.
But Hypnosis Mic is a female-targeted franchise... Of course, every gender can enjoy it, but I think the first audience target is female.
In my opinion, just because she has a typical mature body doesn't mean she's automatically sexualized...
She reminds me in certain ways of characters like Bayonetta or Shion from Psycho-Pass: they both use the sex-appeal they naturally have for themselves, because they are proud of it... And not, you know, for men.
It would be of course different if she was the character of a second zone porn anime/manga, where she would be portrayed exclusively in a sexual manner; but here, in Hypmic, Ichijiku is in a position of total power over men, which is frankly almost non-existent in a Japanese media industry where female characters are sexualized a whole lot - regardless of body type, even the so-called "lolis" - and created for male pleasure.
Also, frankly, I think the dynamic of female fans thirsting over a female character is different here (in Hypmic) than a male fan thirstying over a female character in a anime targeted to him. I think the power balance is too different to be compared.
If you look at Femme Fatale's lyrics, you can see that Chuuoku claims their identity as independant women who don't need men. It also means they consider themselves free to think and dress as they wish regardless of what men may think - patriarchy, "it's your fault if you get raped wearing such clothes", yadda yadda
Again, Hypmic is targeted towards women. Which means, in my opinion, that the male gaze dynamic can't apply.
Also, a crucial point: Ichijiku’s character is based on her seiyuu Chiaki Takahashi, who used to do gravure before being voice acting work. I think it’s very telling that the one character created after her belongs to a female-targeted franchise!
“I don’t exist for men, but I exist for myself. Also I’m glad to please the lesbians” is the message I’m getting from it
Takahashi is very known in the seiyuu world for promoting her sex-appeal in her works, and doing whatever the hell she wants - including having a wild wardrobe ever since her rookie days, as she says in this interview :
I love R&B, hip-hop and reggae and favoured wearing sexy import dresses but it seems that those elements did not give off a good impression. At the time, seiyuu mostly wore frilly clothing. “This is a job that involves voice work, why should clothes even matter?” – I tried to argue my case but because of my young age, nobody would listen to me.
She is someone very proud and independant, who takes shit from no one and gives the biggest feminist vibe I’ve ever encountered on a Japanese celebrity.
Sorry for the long post, I hope I was understandable enough😊
I'm glad to have debates about Hypmic!!

I'm not going to get into a long drawn-out debate, but I do want to point out that having women in a position of power over them is a very common male fantasy. That Ichijiku is more powerful than any man in the Hypmic universe does not negate the way she's sexualized, and is in fact a part of how she's sexualized. It's just filling a different stereotype. You can't say "oh, well, Hypmic is for women" and think that negates the thoughts and actions of the men who created it.
Mmm, but in my eyes, the fact that she dresses however she wants showcases her independance... I added some more text in my original answer, drawing parallels on Ichijiku and her seiyuu who she's based after, Chiaki Takahashi. Feel free to read😊
I think Hypmic being for a female audience really changes the dynamic.
For example, Hypmic songs are usually composed and written by men (Zeebra is the only name I remember right now) but Femme Fatale was written by Reol, a female artist who you may know? In my eyes, it shows that the executives were careful of not overstepping their boundaries of talking for women, and instead let Reol do her thing.
Also, I'm seeing a rise of what is called 百合夢女子"Yuri yumejoshi"; basically POV art of a female woman, but for girls. It's quite popular in the Hypmic fandom.
I think we'll have to disagree on that topic, but it indeeds begs the never-ending question of female sexualisation in anime, especially with the recent Twitter debates surrounding this child-like girl with giant boobs... Probably a recent anime that came out? Ew.

idk if anybody’s explained it yet, but in your settings you can toggle the visible pages, so you can hide your likes and follows basically. also while i’m here! thank u for sharing your writing,,, this blog is truly a blessing for my lesbian heart, i love it 💖
Oh yeah??? I didn't know jajqjq im such an idiot when it comes to Tumblr,, i have difficulty handling it well... I'm still searching how to add links to the navigation bar😳
Thank you!!!!!!
And yeah!!!! I love and support Chuuoku so much.
If I'm being honest though.... I'm kinda angry that Hypmic staff made brainwashing a thing bc... Feminism isn't brainwashing,, yeah.... I wish Nemu entered Chuuoku out of free will, even if it's for the drama with Samatoki I'm not happy about that. I'll still follow them to the end of the world... When their government crumbles down, I'll probably cry. I hope they get a proper backstory and motives and not only "feminism bad"
It's probably not a popular opinion though...

I took a look at the comment section of Femme Fatale (which is at 5 million views by the way!!); there were A LOT of Japanese debates centred on feminism in all of its aspects. It makes me really happy!!!

honestly i feel the same!! i’d be super disappointed if they just made the whole thing “if women oppressed men that would also be bad 😔” bc i feel like that’s such a useless take,,, i’m really hoping we’ll get some backstory too because otherwise it would just feel kind of. empty i think but yeah if that’s an unpopular opinion you’re definitely not alone lol
Jsjqjsj!!!!! Thank you!!!
Like the boys keep going on about how their world is abnormal and they're gonna break the govt walls, but like...
Even if I like the boys divisions very much, I don't think they're looking at the bigger societal picture of women oppression, honestly I understand why Otome snapped (even if it was kinda...... dumb..... to create mics that can literally destroy your brain? but gotta have a plot I guess) and hell what else can I do but stan
Our current world, with men in positions of power, literally have all the women leaving in fear... Rape and death threats, sexism in all areas, mansplaining, objectifying....
What happens when Chuuoku falls down and the men take power again? 😭 The boys want the world to go back to normal, but if it does, women will probably be targeted again, even more...
Like I know Chuuoku isn't all white either especially with the Ramuda stuff but... At least they managed to create a society where women can leave in piece for a while. I'll take that any day over our current "peaceful" world tbh

I dont wanna draw out the ichijuku debate further but I think both sides are right to an extent,, like she may be designed with a fantasy in mind but like her tiddies aren't bouncing everywhere (like a lot of sexualised female characters) and none of the characters really mention it,, she's treated as an adult character in her own right instead of everyone (in universe) oogling at her, yknow?
Hello!!!!! Sorry for the late reply!!
Yes that's what I think as well!!! She just happens to have a sexy body and she's treated as Someone and not just boobs on legs... It's so... Refreshing!!!!❤️
I think it's also helpful when you look at examples of real-life women with big chests who get harrassed all the time because of it😭😭 But like it's not their fault?? I dunno maybe it's a stretch to link with Ichijiku who is a fictional character... But I think that media has an impact on real life, so hopefully we get more good representation like that!!
Thank you for taking the time to post❤️❤️❤️
