Shoutout to the Ma clan, people always saying the La's are a bunch of weirdos but the Ma clan isn't that far behind, we have:

(spoilers for the light novel but I tried to keep them small or vague)

Gaoshun "lover of all cute things" (Maomaos words not mine). Supposed head of the family but everyone knows his wife has him whipped. He's the sword trained to protect the most important man in the country but look at him trying to pet a kitty.

Actual head of the clan, Taomei, Gaoshun's wife. She doesn't get compared to a bird of prey often for no reason. And also somewhere along the way adopted a bird of prey herself. Highly efficient and scary enough to intimidate many men stronger than her. And she pushed Gaoshun into a pool when she noticed someone saw them strolling romantically, for reasons no one can explain since he's been her husband for 20 years.

Maamei (Taomei 2.0) future head of the clan, just as sharp and cunning as her mom (also compared to a bird of prey). She manifested who she would marry when she was 8 years old and actually succeeded 8 years later. Has two different kinds of idiot brothers but looks after them. Maybe the only one who could help Basen realize his romantic feelings. Her dad thinks she hates him but Maomao notices her husband is pretty much just like Gaoshun.

Ah Baryou. In spite of having such strong willed parents, or maybe because of that, Baryou can't even look people in the eye without getting nauseous. He works for the moon prince BEHIND A CURTAIN. He needed to keep the line going so they basically told him "close your eyes and your wife will do the rest".

And Basen. Ngl he was rude and a snob at the beginning of the novel. But he has quickly become one of my fave secondary characters. He's stoic but so so noble. He will punch a guy who speaks ill of his beloved, even if he was just passing by. He will raise a goddamn duck that imprinted on him because it brings him closer to his beloved. He will jump from a sixth story building carrying his beloved princess style to save her. He will fight a fucking tiger to rescue her. He is THAT GUY. But he can't even say he likes her to her face or to anyone's face for that matter. He has built a fortress around himself scared of his inhuman strength, afraid he could never love a woman without hurting her, but his heart is gentle and pure, just ask his duck.

Chue, my beloved. Baryous wife. Jinmao biggest shipper. Will lend Maomao her see through negligee so they can do the deed. Will eat her weight in food no problem. Can do fun party tricks. She's the whole package

I've read the apothecary diaries light novel up to volume 12 (I think?) and seeing the anime fans adoring Lahan is reminding me of how funny the sibling dynamic is

Started reading the light novels for the Jinmao, but stayed for the shenanigans (volume 10-11 were Great!)

Maomao’s hate for Hulan knows no bounds. She wants that man GONE.

Maomao is really trying to use her girlfriend privileges to get rid of him.

Unfortunately for her, work mode Jinshi is much more pragmatic than boyfriend Jinshi.

I really love how open Maomao has become and how she’s no longer afraid to voice her feelings. In the past she would’ve thought all of this, but never said it out loud.

First he pets her like a dog now this. Jinshi, your girl is a CAT, not a dog.

Jinshi really is dealing with children here. There’s no worse combination of people to be put together than these 3.

KNH characters eating street foods

Maomao will know if it’s good good or if it needs more salt or sauce. Will know where the clean and tasty street foods are being sold. Will haggle if needed. 8/10 good guide. [Just a little too short, so Jinshi fears of losing her in the crowd is real]

Jinshi would be the type to be surprised chicken intestines and chicken feet can be cooked that way. Can be pretty adventurous once the initial surprise wears off. Will be the type to ask and point if they can eat this and that (Can be easily scammed) [Just having fun following Maomao]

Basen would be the type to be suspicious of the food at first. Will grumble that Jinshi shouldnt eat these kind of food but will also be pretty enthusiastic about eating it bc it’ll smell good. Can finish 5-10 skewers. Also carries Jinshi’s money that’s being used to pay for all of these.

Lihaku will volunteer to place their order. Will talk to the street vendors about their wares. Eats a lot like Basen. Also a bit used to the street food like Maomao. His height is helpful when the street gets crowded.

Chue’s the biggest eater. Will keep pestering Basen to spend more of Jinshi’s money. Also have some side stories about the dubious street food she has tried before. Most likely the person who dropped the idea of eating out to try some skewers which Miss Chue just knows Maomao will enjoy. If it happens that Master Jinshi has heard Chue talking about this one afternoon, why, it’s just a coincidence.

Also volunteers to be the food tester so she can tag along.
