Chromothesia is kinda like finding colour in the colourless... Smells sound, numbers, et cetera. It's finding out how your favourite song isn't your favourite colour It's asking a perfume assistant which perfume is 'blue' It's subtle, but noticeable I've had a terrible Tuesday, but I hope yours is so much better! ヽ(；▽；)ノ

kaname headcanon dump * 

when he was in hs he’d carry around a box of colored pencils along with sheet music to write his music. he still does that now. 

big cat fan. you will always see him posting about his cat. some may say he’ll marry them one day (he won’t). 

his left arm is covered by a sleeve. it’s roses + geometric patterns + ivy branches the sleeve is very colorful. bright. 

very good cook, only a few people have tasted his cooking though

his hair is shoulder length now. he ties it up in a bun or a low pony tail on occasion. especially when he’s writing. when it’s up you can see the lyre tattoo on his neck. most often than not it’s down and out. 

most of his wardrobe are dark colors - blacks, grays, maroons 

when he laughs like really laughs he throws his head back or he snorts but his laughter is a rare breed 

normally seen with earbuds in because of his chromothesia 

he’s started exercising more! so he goes running with his brother, haru 

in mario kart he mains link and or shy guy 

he’s a scorpio 

his concerts are fun. he really comes alive in concerts. he moves on the stage. interacts with the audience. like it’s such an experience because on stage he’s electric and off stage he’s like “hi. bye.”

he’s a MUSICIAN / ARTIST and he has CHROMOTHESIA so he sees sounds in color !!!

he carries colored pencils / crayons everywhere as well as a notebook because he’s always looking for inspo (: 

he loves his step brother haru amagawa so much that is his best friend that used to be his whole world but they both realized that was pretty unhealthy and have worked on like , still being devoted and protective and striving for each other but not to the point where they both run themselves into the ground / deny themselves things

kaname loves cats 

he also hates carrots and mushrooms and won’t even look at pineapples 

he’s so mean for no reason he’s a fucking porcupine

my favorite thing about writing the amagawa brother’s dynamics was discussing the subtle complexities that riddle their relationship. because while they are each other’s number one priorities and it’s evident in the way they have lived , have crafted their lives , have coped from the tragedy that surrounds and gave catalyst to their relationship now , it is also solidified by massive amounts of guilt the two share: kan believes he is the cause of their parent’s death , and in particular , haru’s mother’s passing as haru and his mother were incredibly close prior to her meeting kan’s father. and haru feeling guilty that he did blame kan after the accident. that he let his grief and rage and inability to properly process the situation force him into isolating , alienating , and pushing kan away while he was recovering in the hospital. haru didn’t visit kaname right away for like , up to a week ( if i remember my own canon correctly LMAO ). 

and it’s absolutely shitty. and he recognizes that. which is why their uncle plays a huge role in haru taking that step , getting his head out of his ass , and doing what needs to be done. he can grieve , he can be angry , he can be upset , but to direct all those emotions at kaname who obviously didn’t do anything is wrong. and kaname , kaname expected to be alone. his relationship with his father is strained at best , their only real connection being music but even that was slightly poisoned due to his father’s near obsession with music as a way to deal with lucia , kan’s biological mother , leaving. how kaname thanks to his chromothesia can tell when people are lying and he had hoped , hoped beyond measure that haru ---- who had never lied to him , who was always brutally honest in his soft way ---- would come back. and he didn’t. and sitting in the hospital waiting for days until haru finally walked in was , honestly earth shattering. 

they haven’t discussed this situation in depth. rather they fueled all their guilt their shame their varying degrees of pain towards the formation of their new world. where it’s the two of them : ride or dies. where they would do anything for the other and have neglected letting people into their lives because they have formulated such a precarious world where the two of them could set things straight and move on and grow stronger together. even though they both have major issues to resolve. and they’re both self destructive in a lot of ways. 

asdkljfsadf idk where i’m going with this but their dynamic their story their growth their failures their everything was so wonderful to write and i hope i can find that again , write that again , develop it more because their stories aren’t over and they have such unlimited potential for growth !!!

kaname amagawa + complex relationship w/ music 

kaname’s relationship with music comes in three parts 

PART ONE / HIS FATHER: his father was kaname’s first intro into music. he learned theory from his father. he learned composition from his father. but mostly important, he learned the beauty of making music. his father was a talented pianist. who played in local bars and clubs around the city. that’s how he met kaname’s mom. who was an art dealer at the time. for years, young kan knew of music as something he’d wake up to in the morning. as something he’d watch his father play as a way to communicate his love for his wife in a way only she could understand. then, she leaves. and his father says “oh i don’t blame you” but his music says otherwise. kaname’s undiagnosed chromothesia picks up on the lie. picks up on the way that his father’s music has colors of resent (dark, bloody red, putrid grays, puss colored yellows) and this - this is kaname’s undoing. 

PART TWO / ADOLESENCE: kaname uses music as a crutch. rather than being pushed away from music, kaname clings onto it. especially after the car accident that killed off his father and haru’s mother. kaname struggles to verbally express himself. in the sense that, he’s very blunt and forward but being able to talk about his feelings is an issue. music became a way of expression. he could use the colors he saw in others to replicate his feelings into music. blue for sadness. green for wanderlust. yellow for happiness. red for rage. it’s why his color albums are always named after color hues / palettes -- it’s his emotional expression. kaname’s first instrument was a piano. but since that day with his father, kaname hasn’t touched a piano. he’s tried. but the notes come back ugly. he still sees the same, putrid colors of his father’s resentment and blame towards him. kaname’s always the problem - this is what he believes. he made his mom left, because she couldn’t be a mother. and he’s the reason why their parents died - because he wanted to see a movie, on a rainy day. his depression manifested itself in long periods of him locking himself away into his room to create and create and create. sheet musics scarred in color pencils of flats and b-sharps and a-minors and rests and codas. his greatest works were produced in this time period where music was his only way of saying how he really felt. 

PART THREE / CURRENT DAY.  now music is less of a dependency, and more of an experience. kaname no longer goes to music as a way to express himself for fear that no one else would understand him. now he’s much more free with his music making. he still uses music and the creation of music as a sort of self-exploration, but now he can have fun with it. it’s been a LONG TIME COMING. but kaname’s glad he can finally experience music in a healthier way. he’s thinking about picking up the piano again. and associating new colors with it so one day. he’s reconciled with his animosity towards his late father, as well. he’s so/so with his biological mother. and he no longer blames himself for his mother’s absence or his and haru’s parents’ death. he’s, free, in a sense. and now his music reflects that type of freedom from self-imposed burden.
