books i need to finally read in 2021
Here are the books that I already own (physically or in e-book form) and that I REALLY want to get through in 2021! I am making this list and posting it here to hold myself accountable, because I don’t have the best track record for getting through my TBR. (I tend to… become more interested in the books that I don’t currently own, then buy those. But since I then own them, I suddenly become less interested in them and more interested in the books that I don’t currently own. And then buy those… [ad infinitum]).
Also, I’m hoping it’ll be satisfying to continue to update this post and cross books off this list.
The Starless Sea (Erin Morgenstern)
Conversations with Friends (Sally Rooney)
Normal People (Sally Rooney)
Weapons of Math Destruction (Cathy O’Neil)
Hold Still (Nina LaCour)
The Club (Takis Wurger)
The Rehearsal (Eleanor Catton)
Shadow of the Lions (Christopher Swann)
Witches of Ash and Ruin (E. Latimer)
Whiste in the Dark (Emma Healey)
Tweet Cute (Emma Lord)
I’m Supposed to Protect You From All This (Nadja Spiegelman)
Shame (Inés Bayard)
All the Light We Cannot See (Anthony Doerr)
The Stranger Upstairs (Melanie Raabe)
The Shadow Year (Hannah Richell)
Perfect (Rachel Joyce)
Oola (Brittany Newell)
And Then There Were None (Agatha Christie)
Looker (Laura Sims)
Scienceblind (Andrew Shtulman)
The Sharp Edge of a Snowflake (Sif Sigmarsdottir)
Trust Exercise (Susan Choi)
Half a year into 2021, I have made some progress with this list, but have (unfortunately) also added some new books to my physical TBR! They were birthday presents, so it’s not my fault!! (Actually, yes it is, because I asked for books as presents. *clown emoji*)
Good Girls Lie (J. T Ellison)
These Violent Delights (Micah Nemerever)
Malibu Rising (Taylor Jenkins Read)
An Ocean of Minutes (Thea Lim)
Good Girl, Bad Blood (Holly Jackson)

Book Society presents its August reading event! As selected by the members, this month's theme is All By Myself. To clarify the cryptic title, this event is all about standalone books! We invite you to indulge in one or more of our personal recommendations listed below and discover the magic for yourself. We also encourage you to revisit a standalone that holds a special place in your heart and spread the love by recommending it to others. Please note that series, collections, and companion books do not apply, so try to pick a book that shines on its own! This event is open to everyone, not just our members.
✧ how to participate:
optional: reblog this post; check out our network and members
read (or reread) a standalone book recommended by one of our members, or reread a standalone that you consider a personal favourite; there is no book of the month for this event
share what book you’ve chosen, thoughts, reactions, and/or creations
use the tag #booksociety in your posts, and include “@booksociety’s All By Myself Event: [insert book title here]” in the description of your creations

END OF THE YEAR BOOK TAG 2020
It's just me answering a bunch of bookish questions to recap this year. Some answers might just be a continuation of my Mid Year Book Tag so that I don't repeat the books I mentioned there. Here's the recap:
1. How many books did you read this year?
I've read a total of 174 books which is the most I've read in a year. Sitting at home all year had its advantages.
2. What genres have you read?
42 contemporary books
37 mystery/thrillers
30 romance books
21 fantasy books
12 poetry/in-verse books
12 graphic novels
6 anthologies
6 non-fiction books
4 historical fiction books
4 classics
3. What age ranges have you read?
78 young adult books
73 adult books
17 new adult books
6 middle grade books
4. How many books got each rating?
38 five star books (2 rereads)
75 four star books
51 three star books
10 two star books
5. Best book you have read this year?
I made a post with my 5 star reads of 2020 but if I had to pick one it would have to be Radio Silence by Alice Oseman. I can see myself re-reading this book every year and still relating to it.
6. Have you completed any series this year?
I binge read four series because all of their final books came out this year 😂

13. Books that DID NOT live up to the hype
These books definitely weren't worth the hype, at least not for me.
