Day 9
🎈🎉🎁Holiday Party
Y/N, we’ve gotta go babe. I’m sure you don’t look that bad. Plus, you agreed to dress up as an elf, you can’t back down now.”
Shawn tried to stifle back a laugh as Y/N emerged from the bathroom, her cheeks tinted red, matching the color of her sweater. “Oh my gosh, Shawn, this is horrible. Stop filming this!” He had taken out one of his video cameras and was pointing it right at Y/N’s face.
“Sorry babe, I’m in charge of documenting all of the Mendes’ Christmas memories. We show them at our Christmas Party, so be prepared.”
Y/N tried to cover her face, but Shawn was not having it. “Come on, do a twirl for us. I’m digging red on you though.”
Y/N rolled her eyes at him. “Don’t we have to leave right now.”
Shawn checked his watch and sucked in a breath of air. “Yeah, we do. We’ll get in trouble if we don’t.”
“Alright, I’ve got the White Elephant gifts. Can you grab the pasta salad I made?”
“Sure thing babe.” He picked up the plastic container full of pasta, and they left their condo (Y/N had finally moved all her things in and thank goodness for that because Christmas was in five days).

“Y/N!” Aaliyah squealed as she opened the door. She pulled Y/N into a hug, careful not to crush the bag carrying the White Elephant gift in it.
The White Elephant gift had been a tradition in the Mendes family ever since the family began to grow past the point of being able to afford buying gifts for everyone. It was the only thing that Shawn ever knew, and he looked forward to it every year. The rule was that the present had to be under $25.
Y/N and Shawn had both bought separate gifts. Shawn had brought 10 of his old guitar picks and had wrapped them (with help from Y/N of course; he wasn’t a very good wrapper) in a tiny box. Y/N brought shower steamers (essentially a bath bomb for the shower) which she hoped would be a funny, light-hearted gift, but also a gift that wasn’t completely useless like some White Elephant Gifts were.
“I love your sweater!” Y/N and Aaliyah both laughed at how ridiculous she looked in her Elf on the Shelf sweater.
“Geez, why are you always more excited to see my girlfriend?” Shawn pouted his lips.
“Because clearly I’m better Shawnie.”
“She’s kind of right Shawnieeeee.” Aaliyah drug out the ‘e,’ making fun of Shawn. “Come here you big buffoon.” Aaliyah pulled her brother into a side hug, and he ruffled her hair. She swatted at him, and he laughed, carrying the pasta salad into the house. “I can take the gifts from you Y/N.” Y/N thanked her and followed Shawn.
“Y/N, how are you?” Karen gently wrapped her arms around her. “I’m so happy that you and Shawn moved in together. I’ve never seen him so serious about a girl before,” She pulled away, winking at Y/N.
Y/N felt herself blush. “Well, I feel really lucky. Especially after he made me dress up as an Elf on the Shelf.”
Karen chuckled and sent a look to Shawn. “You two look fantastic! I’ll bet you’ll win the Golden Snowman. I haven’t seen anyone with as good of sweaters as you!”
Shawn smiled softly at Y/N and grabbed her by the waist pulling her into his side. “Is there anything I can do to help?” Y/N asked.
“Oh, that’s alright dear. I’ve got everything handled. Dinner will be ready in a few minutes. Shawn, why don’t you introduce Y/N to the family. I know she already met them at the snowball fight, but we all know how chaotic that can get. She needs a proper introduction.”
Shawn nodded his head grabbing Y/N’s hand and leading her out to the family room. He felt her hand squeeze his and he glanced at her. He could read her like an open book. “You okay?”
“I’m nervous to actually meet your family.”
“It’ll be fine. Hi Aunt Marie, how are you?”
“I’m fantastic! It’s good to see you again Y/N. You’re gorgeous. I know I didn’t really get a chance to talk to you the other day, but it seems like the two of you are really happy.”
“Thanks, your nephew is a really good guy. I can tell he was raised in a good family.”
She touched a hand to her heart and called her kids over. “This is the girl that you called pretty,” she pointed at Y/N as she talked to one of her little girls. “She kept asking who you were the other day. She was like ‘Who’s that pretty girl that was with Shawn?’”
Y/N felt her heart melt as she bent down next to the little girl. “Well thank you, I think you’re beautiful too.”
The little girl smiled. “Is Shawn you’re boyfriend?” Y/N nodded her head. “Yay!” she clapped her hands and gave Y/N a hug.
“I’m sorry, she loves talking to people,” Marie said, shooting Y/N an apologetic look.
“No, don’t apologize. She’s the cutest. I’ve always wanted to have a little girl cousin. Or cousins in general. It’s nice to be here around a big family. My parents are only children, so all the family get togethers are really small.”
Shawn watched as his girlfriend interacted with Iris, his little cousin, and he couldn’t help, but smile. He was so in love with this girl, and he couldn’t wait to see the way she interacted with her own children. He…hadn’t ever thought about having kids with her. From the minute he met her, he knew she was different. He knew she was special, but he didn’t think about marrying her, or life after marriage. But the more time he spent with her, the more he realized that you were the girl he wanted to spend the rest of eternity with. He wanted to have kids with you and grow old with you. You made him so happy, and he was so grateful. He felt like the luckiest man in the world.

After they had exchanged the White Elephant gifts (Y/N had gotten a box of fancy cheese from Quebec, and Shawn had gotten a candle that was called Mr. Grinch—which smelt bad) it was time to give out the Golden Snowman.
Everyone wrote down on a piece of paper who they thought had the best ugly sweaters (obviously you couldn’t vote for yourself) and that is how votes were cast. “And the winner is…drumroll everybody…Shawn and Y/N! You get the Golden Snowman!”
Shawn jumped up and down and gave Y/N a hug, smooshing his lips against hers and grabbing the Golden Snowman from his uncle’s hands (he was last year’s winner, and it is tradition for the previous winner to give up the Golden Snowman to the new winner).
“We did it babe! We won!” He spun her around in a circle a few times then set her down on the ground. “I love you; I can’t believe we won!”
Y/N chuckled at her boyfriend and his family. She hadn’t realized how much she had missed her parents until she was at the Mendes family party. They lived in the States, and she hadn’t seen them since right before Thanksgiving.
But standing next to Shawn in the living room of his childhood home, she knew that the people in the room loved her and she was happy that she was accepted into Shawn’s family.
A/N: SO, I don’t like this one at all. I’m writing this at 1:30 AM because I procrastinated, and this is supposed to come out today so…anyways thanks for reading! Tune in for Day 9 (I think) tomorrow. I love you all!
