My dad and I watched Christmas in Connecticut the other day and I love the plot point of Felix trying to stall the wedding the whole time, especially the “baby ate a watch and became a blond” part.

I love Christmas in Connecticut. It is an absolute holiday classic. But it's also kind of infuriating because so much of the movie is a woman saying "No, I don't want to do that" and a bunch of men chuckling as they disregard that and insist she do it anyway. And also planning that woman's future and what she does with her body entirely for their own gain and without any input from her.
These were just some thoughts I had while I was writing a little essay about how it's a surprisingly relevant movie to the current culture, with the way Elizabeth fabricated an impossibly perfect life for her column in order to make money being similar to the way influencers, in this case particularly family/homemaking/etc. influencers, really do the exact same thing to sell a certain image on social media in order to get followers and make money, and the ways in which that can actually end up trapping a person in a situation they don't want to be in or that keeps them from getting the things that would actually make them happy.

somebody yell at me that nobody cares where a place actually is in canon if it puts a damper on ladies having a surprise getaway weekend that happens coincidentally during the holidays

Our Christmas morning movie is Christmas in Connecticut, which has its weaknesses (like the boring black hole that is Dennis Morgan) but has sparkling performances from great character actors like Sydney Greenstreet and SZ “Cuddles” Sakall.
It’s also notable for a 1940s film that it has several Black actors in tiny roles that come across more as cameos: the jaunty deliverywoman who brings Barbara Stanwyck’s present to herself and Emmett Smith as the Black waiter who patiently explains English words to his immigrant boss.

Edit: And Una O’Connor! I forgot it was her.
