REPORT-COPENHAGEN
Music and Choreography Workshop
June 9-15, 2019
At the Danish National School of Performing Arts
In the end of my second year of Tallinn University I got an opportunity to take part of the NORDPLUS program in Copenhagen, where students from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and USA got a chance to work together. There were 4 dancers and 2 musicians from Estonia.
On the first day there was short introduction to choreomusicology and choreomusical practise to understand the theory that we will be working with during the upcoming week. From the next day we only had physical/practical classes. Every day started with technique class and ended with collaborational work between dancers and musicians, where participants explored different composition techniques to develop choreographies with new music score. On different days we worked with different techniques and styles. Dancers dealed with ballet, floorwork, Cunningham technique and improvisation. At the same time musicians had to improvise between baroque-, minimalism-, jazz- and Cunningham/Cage styles while experimenting with rhythmic structures, repetition, transposing and in general supporting the dancers. In the end of the week was the showing of collaborative projects we did during these five days.
In conclusion all dancers and teachers were very welcoming and supportive. During the challenging and fun progress I got to take myself to an another level. I really loved working with the musicians, it created another layer for dancers to focus on. I am thankful for the opportunity that was given to me and glad that I met so many good dancers from USA, Lithuania and Latvia. Our cooperation thru the week was strong and enjoyable.

Attended two wonderful days of Malay Heritage Centre's workshops on the Javanese Ronggeng and the Sagayan (Maranao War Dance) Very happy to have the MHC including the Mindanao people into the representation of the Malay world! I was analysing alot the movement structures and ethno-choreomusicology of what I was learning. But when the music starts, the body reminds me to just.... "be". #soultari #365soulgrateful #365grateful (at Malay Heritage Centre) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3f2ugyhs9OBb8YD-shRnV1iMGs_Sj4jJZz8t00/?igshid=jt8irhxotk22
