Hope World Overview

this is the overview of the mixtape of Hoseok, Hope World. 

disclaimer: this is just my personal opinion, feel free to disagree. do let me know your thoughts in my ask box

overall: hoseok’s mixtape has been widely anticipated for almost a year or more as hoseok has been constantly hyping and leaving hints that his mixtape would be released soon. this is especially so since he mentioned that one of his goals was to release a mixtape but nobody was sure when it would happen.

so with his consistent hyping, he finally dropped the mixtape on 2nd March. to be honest, i was surprised that he actually gave a date because both namjoon and yoongi didn’t exactly hint any dates but then again with the circumstances being different and the whole world watching bangtan right now, guess announcing the date is something to pacify the growing fandom regarding updates on bangtan.

hoseok did mention that he was working on this mixtape in 2017, and we all know how busy 2017 was for the whole lot of them especially since they embarked on the world tour and had promotions in America, not to mention working hard to also prepare for their comeback in September. so kudos to hoseok who managed to actually work on his mixtape though not everything being solely produced by him; yet he managed to incorporate his style in every track which makes it his.

i was surprised that this mixtape is rather short as compared to others but then again, given the time frame and how preoccupied bangtan is - to the point that their schedules are already booked till 2019 testified as evidence, id say we are blessed we still get this mixtape with a decent amount of songs; sort of like a mini album.

regardless one cannot help but to compare the rapline’s mixtapes, but one could definitely the stark contrast between them, their thoughts, their personalities and the messages that they wish to convey at that point in time.

hope world: i really like how the first track is called hope world, given that hoseok’s studio itself is called hope world. so this being the first track kinda shows a brief overview of what this mixtape consists and what kind of personality hoseok is willing to show. at first listen, i really enjoyed this song because it sounds very peppy etc

so it already is like an intro but turned into an actual song unlike namjoon and yoongi’s mixtapes that had a separate track for their intros. 

i really love the submarine sounds that he added inside and the breakdown of the song, it just feels so jhope to be honest. 

p.o.p. pt.1 (piece of peace pt.1): at first listen, i was not so fond of the song. i thought the intro itself was very interesting but the sudden change to something more of a musical-kind of feel. 

but for some reason the beat sounds something similar to that of a sea, possibly the Under the Sea from Little Mermaid. that same kind of caribbean sea feel - a sort of continuation to hope world’s beats with the submarine sounds; so i guess it flows really nice.

this song sounds very hip hop with a mix of some reggae and tropical vibe; it might take a while for me to like it but i dont dislike it so i guess im in between.

daydream (백일몽): so this was the song that came out with an MV. to be honest, i was actually expecting the song of hoseok’s mixtape to have an MV to be hope world because it best expresses hoseok. but then again, having a different song instead with an MV shows how much he wants to be unexpected. 

this song definitely screams house vibes and is a type of dance genre that hoseok has been working hard learning as seen on their twitter. so i guess, this must has have some influence onto his music too; showing a side of him that not many are familiar with; bringing something new to the table; a different charm for fans to fall for 

i was not so fond of this song before but it would keep you addicted to the beat but i guess it’s a song that could grow onto you

base line: what a beat and what an intro??? i really love this song because of the way it sounded so hard core. honestly, i am a huge fan of hard core beats, like you would see me head bopping to this. 

i was a little let down at how short this was but then again, this was an interlude as he explained it in his vapp broadcast; honestly, i cant wait for a full track of this if he ever considers making this into a full one

it just screams swag; that kind of vibe that would have you walking down the streets grooving 

항상 (HANGSANG) Feat. Supreme Boi: at first, i was a bit skeptical of this, because it kinda reminded me of 뱁새 right at the beginning 

that same kind of repetitive feel but the vibe of it is slightly different possibly due to the featuring of supreme boi. but anyway, i feel this song shows a different kind of swag; it’s more like a ‘bro’ swag as what ill put it as. 

basically the ‘walking with my homies’ down the streets; ‘aint got nothing to worry about’ kind of vibe.

airplane: this song is a very laid-back song in my opinion. but if you look at the lyrics, it shows some subtle diss but it’s a prominent feature of hoseok; as compared to yoongi and namjoon. 

i love the breakdown of the song especially in the bridge and just the vibe of it.

the aesthetics of this video were on point; something about it screams a bit of the youth feel with the car in the empty parking lot at night etc

also, the fact that many believed that this was the other song to have an mv as hinted by the daydream mv, of course, bangtan and their hints. 

blue side (outro): okay, at first, i was not feeling it with this song but trust me, it actually grew onto me, and it’s a song that i would have no qualms putting this on repeat and eventually sleeping to it. 

this is how at peace i feel listening to this song, and the lyrics itself just adds another level of charm that everyone should listen to.

i do wish in the future, hoseok might consider having a full version of this, it’s too short for me, and i would definitely want to listen more of it

last thoughts: it took me a while to actually like this whole mixtape but upon fist listen, hope world and base line definitely were my favs. blue side was next and then airplane. 

but honestly, i am so proud of hoseok who actually worked on this despite their busy schedules in 2017; constantly teasing us that he was working on his mixtape and fans always asking about it whenever he was on the vapp broadcast etc.

his hard work truly paid off, so thank you hoseok.
