Detention: Party of Two

Summary:  Liam buys Riley a sweet treat for breakfast. 

Original Post: 02/15/22 at 8:26PM EST. 

“Actually… there were two really cute guys there, and i’m on the fence about it.”

 Riley shook her head in disbelief.  Taylor was the only person who could meet not only one cute guy in detention, but two cute guys!?!?!?!  

“How is that even possible?”  

“When you look like us, it’s always possible.  Riley I know you try to hide your head in the sand like an ostrich, but we’re cute twins.  We are!  And the sooner you get that through your skull and embrace it, the better off you will be.  Even when you dress like you should be pulled over and put in jail by the fashion police!”

“I don’t want to dress like you.”  

“You don’t have to dress like me Riley!  Just put in a little more effort. And you know, maybe match your clothes?!?!?!”

Riley rolled her eyes.  

“I do match my clothes.”  

Taylor looked her over, shaking her head in dismay.

“Mmmmmmmmkay…. That’s debatable.”  

“What’s wrong with what I’m wearing right now?”  

She shook her head at Riley.  “It might be okay if it actually fits your body.  You could fit Jaiden in that shirt with you.”

“Just look at what this one minor improvement does to your figure.”  

“Um Dad would say we’re too young to have figures.”

Taylor laughed out loud.  “You know Dad, he’s so overprotective of his girls.”

She pulled Riley in front of her full length mirror, and cinched the shirt Riley was wearing tighter and added a belt.  

“Look Rye. This looks completely different on you now.  You’re a babe Riley. Own it girl!!!!”  

Riley’s cheeks started to flush pink.  

“Can we change the subject?  Go ahead and tell me the story because I can tell you are just  itching to!”  

Taylor squealed in delight and did a running jump landing on Riley’s bed.  She aggressively patted Riley’s bed.

“Well come on already it’s time for story time!!!”  

Earlier That Afternoon

“Stupid teacher.”

Taylor grumbled under her breath as she got her books from her locker and headed down the hall to the detention room.  She would have to text either Jaiden and Riley to see who could stick around to take her home later after she got out of there.  

Mrs. Barbour was in charge of detention that day.  

“Hi,  Reservation for Brooks party of one.”  

Mrs. Barbour clasped her hands in excitement.  “Yes! We have been patiently waiting for your arrival!”

Her face then turned, and her voice dripped in sarcasm, and exasperation. “Please take a seat Miss Brooks.”  

There were two seats left, one was in the very back, which really wasn’t her scene, the other seat however…..

The desk was located between two guys.  Both guys perked up in attention when Taylor glanced their way.  Both were guys she had seen before.  

Drake was on her left,  and Nico was on her right.   When she sat between them both glanced in her direction.  

“It’s what I’ve always wanted. This can’t be right!  But it is. One of the perks of being cute twins.”  

Riley rolled her eyes.  

“So I flirted with both of them, when Mrs. Barbour wasn’t paying attention. They’re both cute. But you know Riley the devil is in the details, and Nico came out on top.  Because Nico has the car,  and it’s a black Mustang. That’s right up my alley.”  

“Why? You can’t drive, remember?”  

“But I look cute as hell taking selfies in front of it, see?”  

Taylor took out her cell phone tossing it to Riley and she scrolled through the pictures of Taylor’s impromptu photo shoot in front of his car.

“What, none from behind the wheel? Oh that’s right because you don’t have a license!”

“Why are you so mean Riley?”

“You’re lucky Dad and Jaiden weren’t home when he brought you home. So are you two like a thing now?”  

“I don’t know, maybe.  He’s a football player. We’ll see.  I don’t want to take the first offer, right out the gate but he is cute.”

“Taylor, do you like him though? This is not an acquisition or a merger, this is not business.”

“Yes it is.  As far as everyone here is concerned, you, me, and Jai, are the most popular people at our old school.  If we strike while the iron is hot, we can have anyone we want at this school.  Jai already made his choice, and Bebe is cool as hell.  I don’t think i’m ready to pull the trigger yet.  You might be settling for Liam.”  

“Liam is nice, Taylor, and he’s smart.  He kept me from falling when I was not confident on my skates.  And he helped me when I was really afraid.  The only thing you’ve told me about Nico, is he’s cute, plays football and has a mustang.  Who’s shallow here?  I don’t think I need your advice on relationships Tay. Because it’s clear that we value different things.” 

 The Next Morning

From a distance, as Riley walked up to her locker she saw Liam standing there.  He hadn’t noticed her yet, she quickly flattened out her hair.  She saw Liam perk up when he saw her.   He was holding two coffee cups in his hands.  

“Hi Riley!”  

“Hi Liam!”  

Before Liam could speak again, Riley felt arms grab her from behind  pulling her close to them.  Riley’s father being a police officer had taught his daughters self defense, and Riley’s brain went on autopilot stomping on the person’s foot and elbowing him in the gut.

“You didn’t answer my text this morning, I was coming by to check on you.”  Nico looked up at her exasperated.

“What are you doing with your hands on my sister?!?!”  Taylor crossed her arms over her chest.  

Nico looked confused as Taylor walked up with her juice.

Nico looked between both  the twins.  

“I had the wrong sister.  I thought she was you. Taylor. My bad.”

“Glad to know my sister wouldn’t let you hit on her.  Get up Nico.”  

Nico jumped up following Taylor down the hall.

Liam stared at Riley in shock.  “What a woman!” he thought.

“I didn’t know  what you like,  but I got you a hot chocolate with whipped cream.” 

“You did? I love hot chocolate. Thank you Liam.”  

Liam started to blush a little bit.  

“You’re welcome. I can carry your backpack for you.”

Liam took her back pack, slinging it over his shoulder, and the two walked to their first class together.  

Sitting in their first class together,  Liam watched Riley sip her hot cocoa.  

Their teacher spoke to them about their first project, and let them pick partners.  

“Do you want to be my partner Liam?”  

“A thousand times yes.”  

“Just one is fine.”  Riley smiled.  “You might need my number so we can coordinate after school and stuff.”  

“Yeah that’s a great idea Riley….for class stuff.”  

“Yeah for class stuff.”  

Liam typed in Riley’s number as she recited it.   When her phone started to buzz, she held up her phone.

“I got you!”  

Liam thought to himself.  “Yes. You do.”
