I’ve been replaying Save the Date and it’s… good actually? If you ignore Justin it’s actually pretty cute.

I randomly got a book pass for Save the Date, so my take of the day is that the way people talked about Justin was actually insane. Not exactly a new take, but still very accurate.

People were literally saying he was in the wrong for “following” MC to her new job to warn her employer not to hire her? As if said employer wasn’t his sister and she was considering MC as a wedding planner. And as if he hadn’t watched MC either flip a whole table or shove bread into her boss’ mouth like the day before 😐

Read DC pride. My review of it of the stories I read was that it was predominantly mediocre though I did like the Ray writing and I liked the circuit breaker story as a whole but the only story that genuinely pissed me off was Al Ewing's Mikaal Tomas' story. People have already talked about the whole sexuality thing online but honestly what personally pisses me off more was A) no mention whatsoever of Mikaal's canon long term boyfriend Tony whose a black man in favour of comments of Mikaal fucking the white side character Al made up for the story and then everything to do with Komak and B) no mention either of Komak having had an STD at all and that being really necessary context for how Komak met Mikaal in the first place. Omitting both of these things is imo really fucking disrespectful / shitty to do and as someone who Really Loves Mikaal I'm disappointed that for the first major story he's had in Years this is what he was given. He deserved better

I think a lot about beauty standards, tbh, mostly because of my family: by traditional Indian standards, I’m considered incredibly classically beautiful, but my sister is not; by modern American standards, my sister is considered drop-dead gorgeous, but I am not. And it’s nigh on impossible to describe to people that have not lived in both cultures and experienced both to fully state why the two of us are considered as such, but the reality is that we are, and it’s so so so visible in the way we are treated and interacted with in separate countries, and yet I so rarely see that dissonance discussed in diaspora literature!!

And just like that, Filthy Rich just got shelved as another worthless VIP book. The MC is problematic as hell on top of how it’s written. Like, don’t get me wrong I like the plot because of angst potential but I feel like I’m playing with a punching bag that’s going to keep getting walked over on cause she can’t control how she feels. I’m just super disappointed that there is no other love interest cause I could see myself finishing this book on a route where I can pursue someone else but with only one mediocre LI and how people fawning over her easily riles up our weak willed MC, I can’t push on.

Idk if it’s the MC and how she’s written or if it’s the LI that has yet to earn those diamond scenes, but this book disappoints me. With the LI siding with Mercy(I get it on a professional level but wheeew) who has been super antagonistic out of nowhere and LI talking down to us about professionalism before going on about how she supposedly wants MC, it was a HARD no on that diamond scene. Made the chapter end quickly, but if it were me, I’d be livid as hell and would not want that fucking woman to touch me, even if we’ve been in love with each other our whole lives. There was some disrespect towards MC that was not validated, mane. Give our girl a new boo, please 🙏 lmao 🤣
