Just Call Me Oppa (Minho X You / Oneshot)

“The jury has decided that the defendant is…” professor Nam paused and looked at me then at Minho. “…not guilty.” She finished and banged the gavel. “Congratulations, Ms. Park on winning the mock trial. You’re now exempted in the upcoming midterms exam.” She smiled and dismissed the class. I bowed and thanked her then looked at Minho who’s currently giving me an evil eye. “What?” I asked him while gathering my things. “I swear to god, I’m gonna kick your ass in our next mock trial.” He said as he also gathered his things without breaking eye contact with me. “Well, I look forward to it, Minho-ssi.” I smiled at him before leaving the room then I heard him shout in frustration which made me chuckle. That guy sure is competitive as hell.

*A few months later*

“And again, the top 2 students are Mr. Choi Minho and Ms. Park Mina who will compete in a mock trial. Whoever wins the mock trial, automatically gets a perfect score in the finals exam.” Professor Nam gave me and Minho the case files. “Let’s switch your roles. You’re now the prosecutor, Ms. Park and Mr. Choi here will be the defense.” We both nodded then Mrs. Nam wished us luck before dismissing the class.

While the rest of the students leave the room one by one, I sat back down to check the case files just to make sure it’s complete. “Studying the case already? You really want that free pass on our finals, huh?” Minho’s voice startled me which made me jump a bit and put my hand on my chest. “You almost killed me, damn it.” I hissed at him and sat down beside me. “Don’t be such a cry baby and check the case files with me in case one of us is missing an evidence or something.” He said, opening his folder and checking the stuff with me.

“I’ll get this photocopied quickly. Wait here so I can return it to you right after.” I held the piece of evidence that was missing from my folder then I stood up to go to the library when Minho held my wrist, stopping me. “You know I can just come with you, right?” He smiled. “I don’t want to.” I tried to wriggle my wrist out of his grasp but he’s too strong. I hate it. “Who said you have a choice?” He smirked and stood up. “Fine. Let’s go.” I rolled my eyes at him and he just laughed in return as we gathered our stuff and leave to go to the library.

We were walking in silence when Minho decided to break it by clearing his throat before speaking to me. “You know, we never had the chance to talk outside our law classes and we only talk at mock trials.” I looked at him curiously. “What’s wrong with that?” I ask him. “Nothing, really. I just want to get to know you more but I never get the chance to since we’re always competing to be the top of the class.” He chuckled and looked at the ground. I fell silent and also looked at the ground because I don’t know what to say. This is new to me. I never really considered getting close to anyone because I don’t have time for it. Not when I’m striving to be the best law student in this school, and hopefully, the best lawyer here in Korea. I opened my mouth to say something but I ended up closing it again and sighed.

Minho saw a rock and kicked it hard. We watched it fly and skip a few times until it came to a stop. “Nice kick. Did you ever consider becoming a soccer player or something?” I asked, still looking at the direction of the rock. “Yeah, I did. My father is actually a coach.” He answered and I looked at him, puzzled. “Then why are you in law school?” He looked at me and smiled. “I wanted to challenge myself. I found law pretty interesting and challenging so, here I am now.” He said while opening the library’s door for me. I whispered thanks and walked towards the photocopiers.

After fixing my files, I returned his copy and thanked him for letting me borrow and photocopy it. “Mina-ssi.” Minho called. “Yes, Minho-ssi?” I looked up and he smiled. “Do you have any plans today?” He asked, rubbing the back of his neck. I hummed and checked my phone’s calendar to check. “Seems like I’m free. Why?” I looked back at him as I put my phone back in my pocket. “Do you want to grab something to eat?” He asked and nervously laughed which made my eyes widen in surprise. Is he asking me on a date?! “You mean… like… together? Just you and me kind of thing?” I slowly asked. “If you’re uncomfortable with it, you can say no.” He stood straight and looked at the floor. Now I feel bad. “No no. It’s just that, I’ve never done this before.” I forced a laugh. “You’ve never hung out with a friend? Or went on a date? Ever?” He asked, surprised. “It’s a date?!” I gasp and covered my mouth. “What?! I-I didn’t say anything like that.” He stuttered and looked everywhere except me. It became silent and awkward.

A minute felt like forever so I decided on speaking up. “Okay, let’s go eat. I always wanted to go to that dog café nearby but I’m embarrassed to go in there alone.” I admitted. His eyes sparkled and he gave me a big smile. “Now that you have me, we can go there together.” He said and I nodded. We left the library and headed towards the university exit. “You don’t seem like a dog person.” He looked at me curiously. “I am but the dogs in the café are just a bonus for me. I’m more interested in their cakes. They look delicious.” I answer, smiling. Maybe having a friend and relaxing for a bit isn’t really that bad. Maybe I should do this more often.

I look at Minho and asked him if he wants to know something cool. He rapidly nodded. I grabbed my phone and while fumbling with it, I said, “I actually have three dogs at home. A Samoyed, a Retriever, and a Pug.” A photo of my dogs popped up my phone screen and I showed it to him. “Woah! That dog looks like a huge cloud!” He exclaimed, pointing at the Samoyed. “Actually, that is her name. Cloud.” I smiled at him and he gasped. “Really?! That is so cute!” We talked more about my dogs all the way to the café.

We had cake and milkshake then played with dogs while getting to know each other. It felt nice, being able to talk to someone about things I like and dislike, and listening to Minho talk about his. So this is how it feels to have a friend. I like it. We were so immersed in our conversation; we didn’t notice how late it was already until we heard my stomach growl. This made Minho laugh and check outside. “Oh! It’s already dark out. We probably should get going.” He said then looked at me. “I’ll walk you home, Mina-ssi.” He stood up and offered his hand. I took it and stood up. “You can just call me Mina and my house is probably out of your way so don’t bother. I can walk myself home.” I told him and he shook his head. “It’s fine. I want to walk with you so that I’m sure that you get home safely.” We walked towards the exit and he held the door open for me. “Alright, Minho-ssi. If you insist.” I step out and shivered when the cold air hit me. Minho saw me and wrapped his coat around me. “Just call me oppa. Minho-ssi is too formal.” I looked at him and scrunched my nose. “How about I just call you Minho?” He laughed and said, “That works too.”

We talk some more on the way home, laughing and playfully hitting each other as we tease one another. “Aren’t you cold, Minho? You can take your coat back since I feel warm enough now.” I asked, removing the coat but he held it in place. “I’m fine. Just keep wearing it. It looks better on you anyway.�� He said which made me blush. What is this feeling?! “What are you talking about? It’s so big on me! You’re a big man.” I laughed and playfully hit his arm. “You still look good though.” He smiled at me. I stopped walking which also made him stop and give me a puzzled look. “Thanks for walking me home, Minho. I had fun today.” I bowed then gave him a big smile. “Oh, you live here?” He asked, pointing at the condominium building behind me and I nodded. “Wow, you’re loaded.” He jokingly said which made us laugh.

A growling sound interrupted us and Minho apologetically looked at me. “That was my stomach.” He laughed nervously while rubbing the back of his neck. “I should probably get going now.” He bowed and started to walk away but I grabbed his wrist. “Minho, wait!” He turned around, surprised. Even I was surprised at my sudden action that I stuttered. “You uh… You forgot your c-coat.” Slowly, I took his coat off me and handed it to him. “O-oh. Right. Thanks, Mina.” He said and wore it. How come I never noticed how good looking he is? “Do you want to come inside?” I blurted which caught Minho off guard. He was just staring at me with wide eyes which made me feel very nervous. What the hell were you thinking, Mina?! “Let’s have dinner together, since we’re both hungry and this is my way of thanking you for today, I mean.” I said. “But if you don’t want to, it’s fine.” Awkwardly, I scurried to the building’s entrance but Minho called me. I turned around and saw him jogging towards me. “Dinner sounds good.” He smiled.

*Few days later*

I know that there’s no way I’m gonna win this case. The evidences are too good but I’m still hoping that Minho will somehow slip or something that’s why I’m still fighting, although I know he’s doing his best to win right now because of that stupid bet that we had last week.

“I’m telling you, there’s no way you’d win this case.” Minho said, mocking me. “And I’m telling you that I, in fact, can win this and kick your ass!” I stuck my tongue out and walked away but he caught up with me and walked beside me. “Tell you what. If you win this case, I’ll treat you to anywhere you want bur if I win…” He paused and I looked at him and nodded for him to go on. “…you have to start calling me oppa.” He finished and I raised an eyebrow. “You really want to be called oppa, don’t you?” I ask and he looked at me. “Only by you.” He said then winked. I rolled my eyes and scoffed. “You are such a flirt.” I playfully pushed him away and walked faster.

“Objection. There is no date, nor time on this ticket so there is no way of knowing if the defendant really is saying the truth here. We can’t even prove that this ticket really is his.” I said, tapping the table with my pen. “Your Honor,” Minho walked towards Mrs. Nam with a flash drive in his hand. I know that the CCTV footage is in that flash drive, proving that the train ticket is indeed the defendant’s. I know I just lost. He looked at me and smirked before handing Mrs. Nam the flash drive. “In that flash drive is the CCTV footage, with a date and time stamp, which will prove that Mr. Han bought that ticket on the 4th of August at 8PM thus proving his innocence.” Mrs. Nam handed the flash drive to her student assistant and told her to show everyone the clip. Minho turned around, looked at me and winked then walked back to his seat. I closed the folder in front of me and sat there, looking at the screen, waiting for my defeat.

We waited for a minute but the screen was just black. “Mr. Choi, it seems like the flash drive you gave us is empty. If you can’t provide proof, then I’m going to have to end this trial.” My face lit up in delight. I might just win. I looked at Minho to mock him but I was surprised to see him calmly gathering his things. “I’m sorry, Your Honor, I don’t have any other evidence to give you.” He said and Mrs. Nam sighed. “Well then. Mr. Han, you’re convicted guilty for the murder of Mr. Jang and will be sentenced to 20 years in prison.” She banged the gavel and stood up. “You could’ve won that one, Mr. Choi if you checked the flash drive before coming in here.” She told Minho then she looked at me. “Ms. Park, you got lucky there. Congratulations on winning the case and for getting a perfect score in your final exam.” I bowed and thanked her then she dismissed the class.

Minho approached me, smiling then offered his hand. “Congratulations, Mina! Looks like I’m treating you today.” I smiled and shook his hand. “But why didn’t you double check the drive before coming to class? You could’ve won.” I asked and we walked out of the classroom, side by side. “Hmm, maybe I wanted you to win.” He touched his chin, pretending to think and I gently pushed him away. “With your insane competitiveness? Yeah, right.” I rolled my eyes and he laughed. “But what if I really did?” He caught up to me and put his arms around my shoulder. “Then you’re stupid because you’re gonna treat me at the amusement park.” I said. “You don’t seem like someone who enjoys amusement parks.” He said and I just shrugged.

*At the amusement park*

We went home to leave our school stuff and change to comfortable clothes before meeting up here at the amusement park. I wore a white v-neck shirt, denim shorts, and black sneakers while Minho wore a white shirt underneath an open gray button down shirt, black jeans and black sneakers. Even when wearing something that casual, he still looks good. He walked towards me and handed me a popsicle. “Are you having fun?” Minho asked me and I nodded, smiling at him. “That’s good to hear.” He smiled and looked at the popsicle in his hand. “Have I told you how cute you look today in that outfit?” He looked at me and I blushed then shook my head, trying to avoid his gaze. “Well, you look really cute today, Mina.” He said and poked my cheek. “You look handsome too, Minho.” I whispered and ate my popsicle. He smiled widely and leaned in closer. “What did you say? I didn’t hear it.” He joked and I pushed him away. “Nothing! I didn’t say anything!” I exclaimed then stood up and walked away. “No! You! I heard you say something!” He ran after me and wrapped his arm around my shoulders.

“I look what?” He playfully asked and I sighed. “I said you look… okay.” I lied. “Ehh, that’s not what I heard from you.” Pouting, he stopped walking then crossed his arms. “What are you doing?” I asked, laughing at him. “You’re a liar.” He said, still pouting. “Don’t be such a baby, Minho.” Laughing, I grabbed his hand and dragged him towards the line for the Ferris wheel. “I said, you look handsome, Minho.” I shouted back at him which made him run to my side with a big smile plastered on his face. “You think so?” I nodded and he wrapped his arm around my shoulder again.

*In the Ferris wheel*

Minho fell silent when we entered the capsule. I noticed him playing with his hands and getting more nervous as we get higher. “Are you scared of heights?” I ask him and he looked at me, surprised. “Why do you think so?” He asked and I pointed at his hands. “You’ve been nervously playing with your hands and you look pretty scared to me.” I said and he nervously laughed. “Well, it’s not that I’m afraid of heights…” he started then looked at me. “…I’m more afraid of doing this.” Curious, I tilted my head to the side. He cupped my face and pulled me towards him, making our lips meet. My eyes widened in surprise and I froze then he pulled away. “I-I’m sorry. I just can’t help it.” He looked at his feet and played with his hands again. “I’ve always admired on you, Mina but after that day at the dog café, I can’t help but fall in love with you.” He looked up and sighed. “I keep falling for you, harder and harder every day but it seemed like you just see me as a friend no matter how hard I try to impress you.” He’s so wrong. I’m also falling for him but I didn’t know what to do because this is all new to me but now, I feel like I know exactly what to do. I held his hand and he looked at my eyes. “Minho…” I touched his face and slowly leaned in. Just before my lips touched his, I whispered. “I’m in love with you too…” I paused and squeezed his hand. “…oppa.” Then our lips met.

choi taeyeon was a good dog; a small pug that kept mostly to herself, slept a lot, and ate probably too much doggie food, but how was yoojung supposed to say no to that cute little smushed face ? she couldn't, that's how. tae had been well-trained, already two years old, so yoojung was rarely worried when she took her out on a walk. taeyeon was a good dog ― most of the time. the other time was apparently this time yoojung took the pup out, who had immediately bolted and, thanks to yoojung's loose grip on her lead, was bounding down the sidewalk. “ ah ― taeyeon-ah !! ” yoojung called after the dog, hurrying behind her, trying to keep an eye on her as she weaved through the small amount of foot-traffic ― apologizing now and then to those she pushed past. yoojung hadn't realized the pup had come to a stop at another person until she finally reached them, snatching up the lead from the ground and frowning deeply ― “ taeyeon-ah, what has gotten into you !! you never do things like that ! ” she said, clearly breathless. glancing up at the person taeyeon had run up to, yoojung tried smoothing down her most-likely-a-mess hair, yoojung shot the other an apologetic smile. “ i'm so, so sorry for her. she's never like this, and i … i'm sorry. i promise it'll never happen again. ”
