ive got quite a few... but we will start off simple and with something ive been DAYDREAMING about for a while
so reader is a new forensic scientist that started a lab in office for easier analysis of evidence (garcia reasonablism and best friendedness obviously) and earlier seasons reid likes to go in and hang out with her often and just be with her and they are both idiots in love and the first kiss is super rushed and akward; TEETH ROTTING FLUFF
i am too cryptic i fear but i will sell my left kidney for this fic PLEASE
spencer reid x forensic scientist!reader. fluff. 1.4k words. s1 spence!! descriptions of a case (typical cm stuff). std discussion? sorta? it's about a victim. reader doesn't have one don't worry. they're nerds your honour.
a/n: i am SO sorry this took me so long?? writing fluff is not my strong suit (clearly). i researched bacteria for this fic. and std's. if penelope garcia looked up my search history she would ask why i'm asking about how to treat chlamydia. if the science talk is wrong, no it's not this is MY alternate reality. also i am but a wee acting major i know nothing about science? ANYWAYS thank u for the request angel it was so fun to write i hope i did it justice ♡
"Hey... I brought coffee."
Your head lifted from the computer screen you had been staring at for the past hour and a half, blinking your eyes to readjust to a light that wasn't blue — you were a big believer in warm toned overhead lights or nothing, and it was your first order of business upon getting a lab in the Quantico building.
Your eyes softened upon recognising the man in your doorway, and your hands outstretched towards him to take the paper cup from him.
It was a particularly gruelling case — a man putting victims through a meat grinder (charmingly so) meant your ability to positively ID victims based on... well, anything you'd usually ID them on, was out of the question. You were down to tampered with blood samples, and you were getting nothing.
"Angel. Sent from heaven, I swear," you said, taking a sip of the warm, sweet (because anybody who drinks coffee black should be locked up) beverage that would help you in the long run. Spencer Reid's lips twitched into a smile — anxious, like the rest of him usually is whenever he's in your lab — and he dropped his gaze to the floor with a small shrug.
"I thought you might need it. I know it's hard. This case," he said, and you nodded your head with an affirming nod.
"Tell me about it," you mumbled, spinning around in your chair, back to your computer, waving him over. "See this?" you pointed to the list of findings in one of the samples.
Your breathing hitched when you felt him behind you, not expecting him to be so close, his own breath audible by your ear.
He hummed quietly as he read through the list, and you turned your head to the side to look at him. His lips were pulled into a frown as you watched him register everything — and God, was he pretty. "Yeah... Salmonella, Enteritidis, Listeria... they're all bacteria you can find in chicken. Raw chicken, to be precise. Did they send you chicken blood by mistake?"
"That's what I thought," you said, snapping out of your Reid-induced-haze, and clicked at your computer until you pulled up another list. "But then I found these as well; Streptococcus mutans, Porphyromonas gingivalis, Fusobacterium and Lactobacillus. From the same sample. And I cross-checked it with all of them, and they're all like that. So I sent that to Garcia and asked if she could do some looking into butcher shops in the area, and she came up empty. So now I'm at a loss."
"Weird," he murmured, leaning further forward over your shoulder to stare at the screen a little more intently, and you found your breath hitching at it. Again.
"What do you see?"
"Chlamydia trachomatis."
"Oh. Yeah, all of the samples have it," you explained, and he nodded his head, before turning it to look at you.
"Well, what do you do when you have a sexually transmitted disease?" he asked.
"Me? I don't—I don't know. I've never had a—" you cut yourself off when you saw his lips twitch into a smile, and your brain caught up with what he had just said, and your lips parted in an 'o' shape in realisation. "You'd go to your doctor."
"And if they all have it, then that means that—"
"—it's the UnSub whose got it," you cut him off, eyes lighting up as you sat up straighter. "Oh my God, I don't know how I didn't make that connection. Spencer Reid I need to reiterate that you are an angel sent from the heaven above, I could kiss you."
His eyes went wide, and his entire being froze, followed swiftly by you yourself freezing too, words you let spill past your lips registering a second too late.
He stared at you. You stared at him. It was an awkward game of who would look away first, and it went on for hour long minutes. You needed to clear your throat but refused to, your lips opening and closing as you searched your brain for something — anything — to say to break up this tension.
"Are you serious?"
It was a meek whisper, and had you not been so hyper focussed on his lips, you probably would've missed it. You forced your gaze up to his eyes, catching the red tinge on his cheeks, mirroring your own. You decided if the one in a billion chance of a black hole swallowing the earth decided to happen now, you wouldn't complain.
"I mean, no," you force past your lips. A sentence you soon sorely regret when you watch a flicker of what you recognise to be hurt flash across his face. Maybe your brain made that expression up. Maybe it didn't. If it did, it was too late to consider that option, because you were already rambling again. "Unless you want me to be serious. In which case yes, I am totally serious. If not, then I'm not."
His eyebrows furrowed in confusion, and an embarrassingly nervous laugh left your lips.
"Yes. I'm serious," you finalised. Because at least if he found that embarrassing and didn't feel the same back, you could kick him out of your lab and avoid him until you manage to swap units. Or move halfway across the world. Whichever came first.
Neither needed to come first, it seemed. Because his tense body shifted, turning to face you, his own eyes seemingly locked on your lips, the same way yours were only minutes prior.
"Is it okay if I..." he trailed off, a hesitant hand reaching up to your face, waiting for your confirming nod before his fingertips relaxed on your cheek. You weren't even kissing him yet, and you already felt that nervous-excited mix pooling in your stomach.
He was in the same boat as you, his own breathing hitching when you didn't pull away instantly from his touch. But then he simply stared at you, for maybe a minute too long, because an exasperated sigh left your lips before you could stop it.
"You know, you actually have to put your lips on mine to kiss, Spencer," you say, and though your intent wasn't to fluster him, you did.
"Yes, I—um, I know. I've just never... what if I screw this up?" he stammered, and your lips pulled into a smile.
"Worst thing you can do is be a bad kisser."
"That's embarrassing."
"Just a little," you agreed with a nod, watching his face fall, and you laughed at the expression. "I'm kidding. It's not that hard, and you're good at everything."
"Not this."
"You don't know that."
He fell silent, and you knew you had won the verbal argument — he was certainly still disagreeing in his mind, but he was always good at picking his battles.
But you knew he was never going to kiss you first. Not when one hand was flexing weirdly by his waist, unsure of what to do with it, and he was so awkwardly holding one cheek with the other.
It was the only reason why you placed two palms on his own cheeks and pulled his face towards you. He let out a shocked yelp that had you laughing for only a second, cutting the sound off short with your lips on his.
Spencer Reid was in fact good at everything.
He was hesitant at first, and you wondered if he was ever going to kiss you back. But he did, and then you wondered if he was lying about never kissing anybody before.
Because he was insanely good, and the way he kissed you was maddening and addictive and it seemed you were (addictive) as well, for he was chasing your lips even when you tried to pull away. So you didn't, and instead allowed him to keep kissing you with so much pace and force you thought you'd break.
"Spence... can't... breathe," you gasped out, and he pulled back in an instant, his eyes going wide.
He was stammering out apologies that fell on deaf ears, because you were staring at him and he was gorgeous. In every sense of the word. With hair that had fallen into his glassy eyes, cheeks as pink as his lips that were screaming to be kissed again, need for oxygen be damned.
And actually, if the one in a billion chance of a black hole swallowing the earth decided to happen now, you would complain. Very loudly.

Demand for Fertility-Related Devices Expected to Rise
Numerous nations in the North American, European, and Asia-Pacific regions are seeing an increase in the use of ART/IUI as the problem of infertility becomes more prevalent.
In spite of a global decline in fertility, an estimated 8–12% of couples worldwide experience infertility. Global factors that contribute to low fertility There are a number of factors that are thought to contribute to low fertility rates, one of which is an increase in the mother's age at first birth. To put it simply, many women are opting to delay having children. Female fertility begins to decline between the ages of 25 and 30, which can increase the number of women who have difficulty conceiving.
Calorie restriction, excessive exercise, smoking, obesity, and stress are additional risk factors for infertility.
Premature ovarian insufficiency, polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis, testicular deficiency, and post-testicular impairment in men, as well as specific diseases like Chlamydia Trachomatis Infections Drugs Development Market are thought to affect fertility.
Treatment options for infertility There are now a lot of different treatment options for people who are having trouble having children. Artificial insemination methods like intrauterine insemination (IUI) and assisted reproductive technology (ART) methods like in vitro fertilization and intracytoplasmic sperm injection are examples of these.
Numerous nations in the North American, European, and Asia-Pacific regions are seeing an increase in the use of ART/IUI as the problem of infertility becomes more prevalent. Despite the high cost of ART/IUI procedures, many nations provide full or partial coverage for these procedures through their national health plans.
Legal requirements and financial assistance Unfortunately, these reimbursement policies frequently do not always apply to same-sex couples or single women. In addition, laws governing medically assisted reproduction procedures may differ significantly from nation to nation. Gamete donation and/or surrogacy are also prohibited in some nations, and certain patient groups may not always have access to ART/IUI.
Numerous individuals have traveled abroad for fertility treatment due to these and other issues, such as lengthy waiting lists and costs. In nations with more liberal government policies, this "medical tourism" helps to strengthen the reproductive healthcare industry.
Medical devices It is anticipated that the percentage of patients seeking medical assistance for infertility will rise over the next ten years. This is because people are more aware of the disease, there are more treatment options and they are easier to get, and people are less afraid of ART/IUI technologies.
Sales of associated devices like reproductive hormones and proteins tests, which are utilized both for the diagnosis of infertility and for guiding patient treatment, are anticipated to be driven by increases in ART/IUI utilization. This is in addition to the devices that are associated with the procedures themselves.

Gift of Companionship - Albedo x f!reader
Crossposting this from my ao3 to provide context for a request I'm writing. This was originally written as a gift for my beloved mutual @missrhinedottir💙 Tags: fem!reader, mutual pining, first date, pure fluff, friends to implied lovers (the lover part will be obvious in the continuation lmao), hand holding - scandalous I know Summary: "It's a gift, I insist," his voice was filled with such certainty, the words making your heart ache, longing to just accept. Albedo had made a habit of visiting you while you work, the peace and attentiveness he brought with him quickly becoming a necessity for you. Minors, ageless, and blank blogs DNI, blocked on sight. Feed it to AI and get Chlamydia trachomatis
Counting the Chief Alchemist as a friend was a rare honor among the people of Mondstadt, ever polite albeit a little distant in his mannerisms. You'd always found it endearing how he'd dedicate countless hours to painting and drawing, tucked away in the nooks of the city as he immortalized the ordinary. It was how you'd first met, having noticed him hanging around your little shop you'd approached him one day.
He'd been startled at first, dropping several pencils as he'd struggled to gather his papers back into his sketchbook. The small giggle that escaped you had made him sigh, probably realizing he'd made a fool out of himself. The recovery had been swift, him showing his drawings and explaining his fascination with observing and drawing people going about their daily lives. 'Being human', as he'd put it.
The topic of all those pages filled with sketches of you had never passed your lips, the notion oddly endearing even if a little strange.
After that he'd been more open in his interest, pursuing conversation with you whenever he caught you on a break. Seemingly more than content to sit in your little workshop and keep you company as you worked. The work you did wasn't prestigious compared to his, at least by your own standards, yet he never failed to compliment whenever you finished a piece of jewelry or another delicate decoration.
Many weeks passed as you settled into comfortable routine, his company bringing a steadiness you had never noticed you'd been missing. It became apparent in his absence, the days he spent in Dragonspine like a cold rag on your heart. Rumors circulated the city, the Chief Alchemist was spending more time away from the mountain, yet it was still too much for you. The silence of your existence oppressive without the scratching of his pen to accompany you.
He brought a new invention one day, offhandedly placing it on one of your tables. A little machine wielding a combination of cryo and something you couldn't quite recognise to perfectly preserve flowers for your creations.
It was an element you'd wanted to incorporate in your creations since childhood, the imperfections of natural materials having always brought comfort. The excitement in his voice had been tangible, the faint traces of a blush visible on his cheeks as he'd realized you'd gotten lost in all the technical details. Clearing his throat awkwardly as he cut himself off and apologized, hands tucked into his pockets.
You'd been standing there wide-eyed, fighting to hold back tears at the gesture. Not only had he clearly been listening to your chatting all those days he'd spent quietly sketching or looking at all the materials in your workshop, he'd remembered. Before you could properly compose yourself, your arms had already found their home around his neck as you broke down in sobs.
His body had tensed, hands trembling as they found your shoulders and pulled you far enough back that he could look into your teary eyes. Worry was written plainly across his expression, his brow pinched together and his lips pulled into a thin line.
"D-did I.. do anything wrong? My apologies if it wasn't what you were looking for, I simply thought it would-"
"It's perfect Albedo"
Shaking your head and smiling you'd allowed yourself a final squeeze of the confused alchemist before you'd let go. You couldn't help but laugh, pacing back and forth as your hands wiped at your tears.
"No one has ever done something like this for me, it.. It took me by surprise, that's all. How much do I owe you? Oh this is perfect, I can't believe you could make something like this. Or rather, I could because you're a genius and everyone knows that, but I mean, that you'd be doing something to fulfill my wish is just-"
You cut yourself off, paralyzed by the expression on his face. Never had you seen such warmth in those pale blue eyes, his body looking much less tense than it had seconds before. He shook his head, hands waving dismissively in front of him.
"It's a gift, I insist," his voice was filled with such certainty, the words making your heart ache, longing to just accept.
"Albedo, I can't possibly... You must've spent a lot of time making this for me, not to talk about material costs"
He sighed, fingers tapping his lips as he thought. You were clearly too prideful to accept without giving something in return. He nodded solemnly as his mind settled on a compromise.
"In that case, I would like to receive the first piece you make using it, if that's agreeable? I've promised Klee long ago that she could get something from here when she got a little older,"
For some reason that offer only served to stoke your embarrassment, it seemed like a bad bargain on his part. There'd been a little back and forth with you trying to insist upon monetary payment, yet he'd shot you down every time you tried to persuade him that the things you made were hardly worth as much as his work. He'd simply shaken his head, sincerity burning behind his eyes when he kept explaining that it was more than a fair exchange in his eyes.
You'd invited him along for a trip to Starsnatch Cliff, firm in your insistence that he would have to join you in picking the flowers for your first trials. The nervousness in your voice had been tangible, it wasn't part of your shared routine, fear slithering along your spine at the thought of a rejection. Which in itself was silly, considering it was nothing more than a friendly offer.
Relief had flooded you with how easily he'd agreed, suggesting you leave as soon as possible. Nothing of interest was happening with the Knights today anyway, and it had been a while since he'd properly stretched his legs. Questioning his intentions was a game you didn't want to entertain today, wiping your hands on your skirt to calm your nerves.
You hardly felt presentable enough, but how could you tell him. Instead you paced back and forth on the street, Albedo having made you wait there while he went to grab something. Your chest tightened when he turned the corner, holding a woven basket in his hands as he proudly held it up.
"I had Sara pack this up for us," there was an uncharacteristic spring to his step as he closed the distance, offering you his arm to hold on to.
His smile faltered for a moment as you hesitated to place your hand on his arm, but he hid it well, averting his eyes as he started leading you out of the city. It was quiet for most of the walk, both of you slowly relaxing as the bustling sounds died down the further away from Mondstadt city you came. Your mind raced with possibilities, not wanting to say the wrong thing and ruin this... not date, you had to remind yourself, the voice in your head more chiding than you'd have wanted.
"It uh- you didn't have to bring food. I don't want to take up your entire day," you couldn't help but wince inwardly at how pathetic you sounded.
Your gaze flickered to Albedo, hoping his eyes would extend their solace to you. They didn't. His head was turned firmly away. The ground became a more bearable sight before you had the chance to catch the flush extending down his neck.
"You tend to forget to eat when you're focused. Low blood sugar could result in dangerous situations," he had to bite down on his tongue refusing to let on how much the thought of you getting dizzy and stumbling, tripping and falling down the cliff, made his stomach lurch in ways he hadn't thought possible.
The mere thought of not being able to see your sweet smile as you greeted him, your pouting lips when you concentrated, the apologetic look in your eyes when he'd spoken too much or too fast and lost you... He'd rather burn every sketch he'd made of you than resign to only ever seeing your expressions in them.
Nothing could do you justice, the picture of life itself in Albedo's mind. His hand tightened around the basket, and he had to take a deep breath to prevent himself from screaming.
You weren't much better off, cheeks flushed and hand twitching atop his arm. You fiddled with your skirt with your free hand, having no reply to his words. They rang true in your ears, the thought of him having caught on and planned for it making you feel a little giddy. The way he had said it so bluntly pushing down the shame you would've otherwise felt at burdening someone with your own shortcomings.
After spending a couple of hours picking out flowers with Albedo your nerves had calmed down, and the usual comfort he brought had long since flooded your system. Nothing felt wrong in his company, and you relished in the way you could speak so freely to him. He'd been more lively as well, taking your hand to pull your with him on multiple occasions, eager to show you what he found and tell you about various phenomena.
No doubt you would've made for a more interesting conversation partner if you hadn't been close to short-circuiting every time his fingers intwined with yours. He didn't seem to mind, the soft look never leaving his eyes when he looked at you.
You'd sat down against a large rock, having consumed the refreshments he'd brought. A pleasant weariness made your body thrum, the combination of fresh air, exercise, and your favorite meal making you relax. The view was beautiful, yet you noticed Albedo's eyes had hardly left you, his lips parted slightly as if on the verge of speaking. You closed your eyes, wanting a moment to gather yourself as warmth blossomed in your chest.
If only every day could be like this.
A hand tugged on your sleeve, bringing your body closer and adjusting your head so it lay on his shoulder. The soft locks of his hair brushed against your cheek, you couldn't stop yourself from inhaling his scent. Yet you dared not move nor speak, scared that this was nothing but a dream, something fickle that would vanish the moment your eyes opened.
His head came to rest against yours, and you felt his hot breath against your scalp, lips moving against your hair. His arm had snaked around your body, holding you against him.
"Forgive me, but I can't do this anymore," his voice was barely above a whisper, a strain evident as he spoke.
Your heart fell, a disgusting lump forming in your throat that threatened to strangle you. This was not a dream, it was a nightmare. You wanted to laugh at yourself for believing this time would be different.
His lips pressing against your hair and a warm droplet hitting your skin broke you out of your spiral for just long enough to realize that his grip on you had grown almost painfully tight, his voice shaky as he whispered a prayer.
"Promise that I'll never have to let go of you"

GC-CT is a medical abbreviation for Gonorrhea-Chlamydia. GC stands for Neisseria gonorrhoeae, the bacterium that causes gonorrhea, and CT stands for Chlamydia trachomatis, the bacterium that causes chlamydia. GC-CT is a nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) that uses target capture to differentiate between the ribosomal RNA (rRNA) of GC and CT. NAAT is the recommended method for initial screening or testing for these infections.

Chlamydiota
Group: Hydrobacteria; PVC Group
Gram-stain: Negative
Etymology: For Chlamydia trachomatis, better known as chlamydia. From the Greek "chlamys", meaning "cloaked", based on the misconception of early researchers that it cloaked the nucleus of infected cells.
About: This phylum has perhaps the most recognizable name, and for good reason: it contains the sexually transmitted infection chlamydia (Chlamydia trachomatis), which is the most common STI in humans.
Chlamydia bacteria have a unique lifecycle, and there are two distinct forms that they take: an "elementary body" and a "reticulate body". The bacteria begin their lives as an elementary body, a spore-like stage in which they cannot reproduce. This form is maintained until they can find a cell to infect. When they do so, they enter the cell and transform into a reticulate body. This is the reproductive phase of the chlamydia bacteria, and happens within the cytoplasm of the host cell. The transformed bacterium divides to replicate, several times, and the new bacteria are then released as elementary bodies, that seek out new hosts. One host cell can be used to release up to 1,000 elementary bodies. In the life cycle diagram below, "EB" and "RB" refer to the elementary and reticulate bodies respectively.

Chlamydia Trachomatis
Can't blog about gonorrhoea without at least a brief mention about Chlamydia.
Risk groups: Sexually active and under 30 Concerningly, it's usually asymptomatic (90% are asymptomatic), but can have severe/significant complications if undetected and untreated (i.e. infertility, pelvic inflammatory disease etc.)
Prevention: Active screening of anyone under <30, pregnant patients in clinic etc. Related to Chlamydophila Pneumoniae (atypical 'walking' pneumonia) and Psittaci (bird infection, causes resp illness psittacosis) Is an atypical bacteria, no cell wall, so penicillins have no effect. It has a lipid rich membrane. Gram stains negative (Pink), much like gono. Clinical presentation: Source: QHealth
ANyone with a human body can also get laryngeal chlamydia (so painful throat) from oral sex, and conjunctivitis (similarly, oral sex)
Pregnant women are routinely screened and treated, as it can also result in neonatal conjunctivitis during vaginal delivery, usually presenting 2 weeks post partum.
by the way, koalas also get chlamydia..
Investigations: - gold standard testing is PCR swab or NAAT (Nucleic acid amplification test) Also test for: - concurrent gonorrhoea (treated with ceftriaxone)
Complications if left untreated: Pregnancy: low birth weight infants, pre term delivery, as above, neonatal conjunctivitis Pelvic inflammatory disease --> which can lead to abscess and infertility via tubal damage from inflammation
Epididymo-orchitis --> painful, swollen testicles, can feel like a testicular torsion presentation is a differential for this
Rarely, but can happen: reactive arthritis. painful, red, hot swollen joints from immune complexes, sterile on testing fluid MCS from joint. usually resolving post infection, even more rarely can lead to long term inflammatory arthritis needing long term immunosuppression as guided by rheumatology. Treatment: 1 g of azithromycin as a stat dose, PO (blissfully simple) alternative is doxycyline 100 mg BD for a week, but I rarely see this prescribed. Given it is an atypical that won't respond to pencillins or cephalosporins. For adherence it's better to just go with the stat dose unless there's contraindications to azith (prolonged QTc etc). As it often co-occurs with gono, they're often tested together and treated together. With gono it's IM cef, 500 mg
Contact tracing is always incredibly important in STIs - need to trace back partners up to 6 mos Sexual contact - none for 7 days post therapy, and not with partners from the last 6 months until they've been screened and treated if positive. there's no immunity post infection, and re-infection is common. interestingly re testing at 3 months is recommended.

Sangrado Vaginal intermestrual .

I'd also like to say that Chlamydia trachomatis was actually originally discovered and named after the contagious eye infections it causes. It's not a leap to say that it could have started off in our ancestors as an eye disease which then spread to the genitals and just happened to be more successful there.
A similar thing is true of Syphilis, which is caused by a specific subspecies of Treponema pallidum. Other subspecies of T. pallidum cause contagious skin infections that then spread to other parts of the body. Again, not a leap to say that it could have started as a skin disease which then evolved into an STI pathogen.
If any of these were obtained from animals, it doesn't require any sort of association with bestiality for the initial interspecies jump.
