Its kinda funny that the naruto fandom when presented with dozens of effectively blank slate female characters in the form of the various throw away mothers in the series, and by and large they collectively lumped them together into a generic perfect mother figures amorphous blob in fan characterizations. the abused or long suffering perfect victims in light of their husbands stupidities/abuses.
and thats boring. dont give me yet another karura who angelically smiles in blood soaked pain as shes forced into turning one of her children into a jinchuriki.
give me a karura who willingly goes along with the plan, one who also sees the dire economic strains sunagakures fallen into and per the blind shinobi demagoguery agrees that only a jinchuriki can change their villages prospects. or hell, consider gaaras sand. if it was always infused with karuras love as opposed to shukakus/the ichibeis power, what does that say about the kind of love karura infused into it? a sand that violently lashed out, maimed and killed without distinction at the smallest hint of a threat regardless of its veracity? I honestly wouldn't be surprised if people hand waved away that line about gaaras sand [outside of forgetting about it anyways], because of those implications it raises about karuras love. that its not just some idealized perfect clean form of love, but a violent almost possessive one unwilling to broke challenges or threats to what it thinks is right. that in trying to protect him, karuras love ended up smothering and isolating gaara before snowballing into the misery young gaaras life would become. i would certainly argue kishimotos unwilling to interrogate these implications anyways.
anyways, this is to say that my new headcannon of karura is not of some demure flower, but rather a twitchy elite jounin hopped up on an endless amount of coffee, trauma and hair trigger murderous reflex impulses. a woman who, when presented with her husbands bad ideas does not softly rebuke them but instead doubles down on them because its go big or go home when you live in sunagakure the shittiest village of the big five hidden villages. and aint that saying something when "caught in perpetual civil wars cause they can't stop murdering their own citizens" kirigakure exists.
