Name:
St. Cecilia Jameson.
Name Meaning: “Blind,” named for St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music; “Son of James,” for the whiskey brand.
Birth name: Felicity Marie Robinson.
Birthday: December 15, 1966.
Star Sign: Sagittarius Sun, Aquarius Moon, Capricorn Rising.
Chinese Zodiac: Fire Horse.
Age: She's 39 during season one, but by Doomstar, she's 46.
Way, way more info under the cut!
Family: Elizabeth (Mother, estranged), Bryony (Older half-sister, beloved), Esme (Deceased grandmother, beloved), Arjun (Father, only met once she was an adult, but they've gotten close), Peter (Older half-brother, well-liked).
Family Dynamic: Only the women of the family live together, as Arjun raised Peter in London. St. Cecilia has a very formal, cold relationship with her mother, and she has no desire to change that. As far as she's concerned, her mother doesn't deserve to have a good relationship with her. She's fond of Arjun and Peter, who run a jewelry store in London. St. Cecilia adores Bryony more than anyone else. Though Elizabeth brags about her, Bryony remains modest and is very close with her sister because of it. Though there's seven years between them, they may as well be twins. Esme, who passed away in 1993, was more of a mother to St. Cecilia than Elizabeth ever was, and St. Cecilia still misses her terribly. She was a big part of getting SnB off the ground, and the boys even came to her funeral.
Upbringing: Like Bryony, St. Cecilia was sent to the family's exclusive girls-only boarding school as soon as she was old enough. This put serious strain on her relationship with her mother, who was the headmistress and treated her as coldly as she treated every other student. The resentment led to St. Cecilia's rebellious period, and she left home at fifteen with her grandmother's blessing and a not-insignificant amount of money.
Skills & Hobbies: St. Cecilia writes good poetry, great song lyrics, and terrible erotica. She's good with plants and is quite the chess player (Though she hasn't managed to beat Charles even once), which she learned during her school days. She also learned to fence, ride horses, and speak fluent Latin there. She paints, though she favors landscapes with teacups as her preferred canvas. She's a classically trained singer (When she was little, she was part of her church's choir), and she writes most of the song lyrics and some of the music for her band, Stiletto. In Snakes N' Barrels, she played lead guitar on a white Jackson Pro Series Rhoads RR3, but during their reunion concert, she plays a more modern Gibson Explorer '76 Reissue 2010 Cherry. She took piano lessons for several years as a child, and she's still pretty good. Nothing outstanding, but if Stiletto needs to incorporate a piano into a song, she's perfectly capable of playing it herself.
Current Residence: London, England.
Birthplace: Oxford, England.
Languages Known: English (Native), French (Fluent), Latin (Mostly fluent).
Profession: Singer for Stiletto.
Gender: Cis female.
Pronouns: She/Her.
Sexuality: Bisexual.
Romantic Identity: Biromantic.
Preferences: St. Cecilia seems to be attracted to fellow trainwrecks, and she has an extremely harmful fear of being alone. If she's not in a relationship, she feels worthless.
Experience: St. Cecilia has a great deal of sexual experience, but she's only had two serious relationships (Pickles and Magnus, neither of which ended well). She was exploited from a young age due to her fame, and it's left her feeling that sex is all she has to offer, which has gotten her into trouble more than a few times.
Nationality: English.
Race: Three-quarters English, one-quarter Punjabi.
Face Claim: Taylor Momsen.
Voice Claim: Lzzy Hale.
Religion: Lapsed Catholic.
Details: St. Cecilia attended a Catholic school when she was a child, but since she ran away from home at fifteen, she's only attended for major holidays and rare bouts of Catholic guilt, which are only intensified by the fact that her grandmother named her after a saint. In 1986, she gave up alcohol for Lent, but she got so shaky that Pickles and Sammy insisted on taking her to the hospital, where she ended up detoxing and being forced into rehab.
Appearance
Build: St. Cecilia is petit, with a small chest, a smaller waist, and wide hips. She carries her weight in her hips and thighs, and she's a little upset she doesn't have a thigh gap.
Height: Five foot one.
Skin (color, complexion, etc): She has olive skin decorated with a great many tattoos and piercings.
Handedness: Right.
Hair color: Platinum blonde, though it's naturally dark brown.
Hair texture: Thick with a slight wave.
Usual Hair Styling: She usually wears it in a high ponytail, though she twists it up when she's working in the Mordhaus basement in season four.
Facial Features: St. Cecilia has a soft face, a small nose, full lips with no cupid’s bow, and almond-shaped eyes.
Eye Color: Golden brown.
Miscellaneous: St. Cecilia has numerous tattoos and piercings. She has three white marigolds tattooed on each shoulder, a labret piercing, and a vertical collarbone piercing at the hollow of her throat. Her ears are pierced three times each, in which she wears two silver hoops and a silver stud on each side, and she has a small black star beneath each eye (Which are actually just makeup, though she's never seen in public without them). She has a Christina piercing, nipple piercings, and a belly button piercing. She has a No Time For Antivenom tattoo on her sternum, and a European robin tattoo at the back of her neck. She has a shitty stick-and-poke crown tattooed behind her right ear (Given to her by Tony) and a stick-and-poke diamond on the underside of her ring finger (Given to her by Pickles in place of a wedding ring, and he has the same one). Very, very high up on her right inner thigh, she has a tattoo of the words "love me". Her tongue is pierced with a simple silver stud.
Fashion Sense:
Clothes: St. Cecilia favors dark jeans or shorts with thigh-high stockings with heeled boots. If she isn't wearing boots, she's wearing stilettos. She isn't a fan of long skirts, but minis are acceptable. She tends to show a lot of skin, but she keeps her hands covered, though there's no deep reason for it, save her liking gloves.
Accessories: She almost never goes without her collar, which is black leather with silver spikes and a D-ring at the front. She often wears a pick necklace, too, both of which were gifts from Pickles. She wears silver earrings of several different styles over the course of the show.
Styling: Her style is one of two extremes: Black leather and denim rocker or gold and pink glam, with the former being her stage look and the latter being her more "casual" look, though it's hardly casual at all.
Personality
Personality Description: St. Cecilia is cocky, witty, and teasing, but ultimately good-natured. She's a bit selfish and stubborn, but she does everything with 110% effort, hoping to impress people, even if she winds up getting hurt in the process. She'll do literally anything for validation. To say she's vain would be an understatement. She's something of a coquette who flirts with both men and women, and she has a tendency to "think with her dick," as Tony once put it. She's slow to anger, but quick to jealousy, and she holds grudges for far too long. She's the playful type, but it's largely in a chill way. She's an obvious extrovert, and the role as frontman for Stiletto came very naturally.
Strengths: She's a go-getter who knows what she wants and won't stop until she gets it.
Weaknesses: She has a hard time trusting people, and she has very little sense of self-worth despite her cockiness.
Goals: Find love. She's achieved everything she's set out to do, but love is highly elusive for her.
Fears: Being abandoned and/or forgotten.
Secrets: She was madly in love with one of her classmates, and she confessed just before she ran away, only to be rejected. When Snakes first got big, she mailed this girl all kinds of proof of her success, just to be rejected again. They met during a reunion, and she's been married for years, and St. Cecilia has never felt as much a failure as she did then.
Timeline
-Childhood: St. Cecilia was an outspoken, bratty child, which she never grew out of, but she was musically inclined from the start. She was one of the popular girls during her school days, and when she hit thirteen, she decided that she was no longer a child and had a right to demand respect from her emotionally distant mother. When she was fourteen, she fell off a horse during an equestrian class and shattered her left collarbone. She quit the piano lessons she had been taking for several years and took up the guitar soon after, though it aggravated her injured collarbone and she developed a dependence on painkillers. This rebellious period stretched until she was fifteen and ran away with the help of her grandmother. She was only in LA for a few weeks before she met Sammy at a bar where the SnB prototype band was playing. Naturally, Snazz and Tony weren't thrilled with the idea of Sammy's kinda-sorta-girlfriend trying to become their lead guitarist, and when Snazz disparagingly referred to St. Cecilia as Yoko, she broke his nose (How could he have not expected violence when a Beatles-loving British girl was called such a horrible thing?). This earned their respect and is an event that they laugh about to this day.
-Snakes N' Barrels era: St. Cecilia stuck with the band until they found Pickles, and she was smitten with him the moment she heard him sing. The band made it big after not too long, and they all grew quite close. St. Cecilia ended up in an ill-fated off-and-on relationship with Pickles as time went on, and to this day she doesn't remember the first time she told him she loved him. It wasn't long after his first OD and his following stint in rehab that she told him, and they were both drunk in celebration of his release. His tolerance, even post-rehab, was far higher than hers, though, and he remembers, though he sometimes hates that he does. On a whim, St. Cecilia and Pickles got married, foregoing rings in favor of matching tattoos they gave each other during the honeymoon, as rings might affect their image. It didn't last long: It was only about nine months before it fell apart. Though there was genuine love between them, the stress of the band and both of their substance abuse problems drove a wedge between not only the couple, but also the entire band. Coupled with Pickles fucking groupies behind St. Cecilia's back and St. Cecilia's becoming a rather serious Vicodin addict to combat the pain in her injured shoulder, the band was doomed. Pickles came to see St. Cecilia off on her flight back to England, saying he would meet her there when his next residuals check came in, but he never made it, and they didn't speak to each other for years afterward.
-Preklok: After SnB broke up, St. Cecilia returned to Oxford, staying with Bryony in their mother's guest house as she tried to figure out her next move. Despite her gift for writing lyrics, she had no talent for writing books, and that idea quickly went down the drain. She still received a large amount of money in residuals, and at her mother's insistence, she attended a few classes at Oxford University. She absolutely loved it, and she came away with a BA in music. In 1992, Esme passed away. St. Cecilia only told Sammy about it, but he took the initiative and brought Pickles, Tony and Snazz with him to the funeral. St. Cecilia was initially pissed, but she really appreciated the support. That was the only time she saw Pickles between SnB's breakup and their reunion for the filming of the "Thunderhorse" music video. He was devastated when her parting words to him were "I love you with everything I am, but I never wanna see you again." In the mid-90s, she posed for an issue of Playboy, and Pickles has a copy of the issue tucked away somewhere. It wasn't until 1998, when she moved to a little flat in London, that St. Cecilia reunited with her school friend Niamh and the idea of Stiletto came about. They found Priyanka and Lex at an open mic night at one of the local clubs, and they hit it off, both as friends and as bandmates. They played at many clubs and pubs, and they were soon found by a scout at another open mic night. They signed with the UK branch of Crystal Mountain Records, and within three years, Stiletto was huge, due in part to St. Cecilia's residual fame from Snakes N' Barrels. Their first tour was through Europe, but the second came to America, where St. Cecilia met Magnus in a bar post-show. They got on really well, and she invited him to her hotel room for the night. They exchanged numbers and got quite close over time, with her even flying him out to London from time to time so they could hang out. Magnus knew who she was from the start, and while he planned to use her feelings for Pickles to get her on his side, that soon faded and he came to genuinely like her. She wouldn't learn who he was until later on. A few years before canon, she had a quickie with Nathan in a coat room at a singers-only party at Crystal Mountain records, and he used the fact that she couldn't fit her mouth around his dick as inspiration for Dethklok's infamous song "Glasgow Smile." He was the one who eventually called her in to be in the "Thunderhorse" music video. This was when she met Skwisgaar, and they hit it off almost immediately and have been good friends ever since.
-Season 1:
-St. Cecilia makes her initial appearance as Nathan's queen in the "Thunderhorse" video at the start of Dethwater.
-She's mentioned during Performance Klok, when Pickles says he hasn't been in a serious relationship since the '80s despite the fact that he would certainly thrive under such attention.
-She makes her first speaking appearance in Snakes N' Barrels, during the documentary the Dethklok is watching. Toki and Murderface are a little critical when they learn that part of SnB's downfall was due to Pickles's failed relationship with St. Cecilia. There's some comedic nonsense talk about fucking one's guitarist before Pickles goes to speak with Charles. Though St. Cecilia is working on an album with Stiletto when she's asked to go to the reunion, she manages to push through and finish in time, though she arrives nearly late. She finds Pickles backstage, and when he sweeps in to kiss her, she pulls away a bit, saying they can't do this, as she's spoken for. She lets him hold her close, though. The rest of Dethklok finds them like that, and St. Cecilia excuses herself to go find Sammy, Tony and Snazz. There's some talk about Pickles not leaving Dethklok, which he says he won't, but they're rather worried after catching him with St. Cecilia in his arms. Meanwhile, she manages to find the boys, and they meet with Pickles backstage. While the boys partake of the Totally Awesome Sweet Alabama Liquid Snake, St. Cecilia doesn't, as she once passed out onstage and doesn't wish to repeat the incident. She presses a kiss to Pickles's palm before they go on stage, an old ritual that they were never able to shake. What happens is far worse than someone just passing out, and she and Pickles leave the stage amidst the chaos while the medical Klokateers take care of the boys and see them off to the hospital. It's a disaster. She's embarrassed and angry, and she turns down Pickles's offer of a ride home and calls someone instead, as she didn't get her money converted and can't pay for a cab. This someone turns out to be the man who's claimed her, Magnus, and Pickles is none too happy about it. He tries to stop her from going with him, but it doesn't work.
-She isn't seen in Dethkids, but she is mentioned. When Pickles starts drinking harder than usual, he finally gives in to the urge to call her, to talk about how Sammy and Snazz and Tony are doing, and to tell her that she should steer clear of Magnus. He's so drunk, though, that she barely has even an idea of what he's talking about.
-Offscreen, sometime between the two SnB episodes, Magnus and St. Cecilia abruptly break up. She had a feeling something was going on with him, but his sudden disappearance really hurt her. They had been together off and on for years, after all. A few weeks before he left, he bought her a little pink knife and showed her how to use it, just in case he wasn't around to protect her. When he left, he left his guitar behind, and she still has it as of Doomstar.
-Season 2:
-She's mentioned by Seth in Dethwedding, though only as "that British chick" he thought Pickles would eventually have married. Pickles nearly decks him for even mentioning her.
-Offscreen, she's contacted by Rikki Kixx, who wants her to take part in the SOBERTOWN reunion. She tells him she's not sober and it's not right to reunite without Pickles, and he tells her off, banning her from even attending the concert. Sammy calls her later, and she tells him she'll be there to support them, even if she won't perform and she'll have to hide.
-St. Cecilia's next appearance is in Snakes N' Barrels II. In part one, during the advertisement for the SOBERTOWN USA concert, she's missing from the band lineup, and Pickles is both relieved and a little concerned by her absence.
-In SnB II part two, Nathan, Skwisgaar and Toki find her among the crowd at the SOBERTOWN USA concert. Nathan asks if she wasn't invited to play, but she says that she was: She just didn't think it was right to play without Pickles. She was banned from attending, and she's wearing a disguise. Realizing that Pickles is sneaking around backstage, she leaves to go find him and try to keep him from doing something he'll regret. She only finds him just as Tony, Snazz and Sammy start freaking out, and she only just manages to keep Pickles from killing Rikki Kixx, though she honestly doesn't mind the thought of him dead. She pulls Pickles away from the stage, where he calls the Klokateers to take care of Sammy, Snazz and Tony, and she sets to icing down his bruised knuckles. She tells him that she and Magnus broke up, and he's thoroughly pleased about it: She's too good for him, anyway. That irritates her a bit, but she tells him to call her sometime, though she insists he do it when he's not drunk off his ass.
-Season 3:
-Ironically, when Pickles calls her in Dethhealth to inform her that he's dying, he's in fact drunk again. She wants to go to Mordhaus to see him, but he tells her to stay where she is, as he doesn't want her seeing him like that, though she's seen him at rock bottom as it is. At the end of the episode, he's drunker and higher than ever, but he calls her again to let her know he's all right. She can't understand him, though, so he puts Nathan on to explain. She’s thoroughly relieved, but she’s still considering going to Mordhaus to see him. When Pickles is a bit less of a mess, he calls her back and agrees to hang out with her for a while.
-Offscreen, in the time between Dethhealth and Dethmas, Pickles goes to London for a while to appease St. Cecilia, and to their mutual surprise, it's not really all that different from how it was when they were actually together. There's lots of cuddling and kissing and great sex and just... Hanging out. It's easy for them to be together. They have their share of problems, but the old flame between them is still there after all these years. It never even went out. Pickles is honestly a little scared of that: What if he falls for her all over again just for her to break his heart like she did last time? The fact that she has Magnus's guitar makes him doubly suspicious. When he returns to Mordhaus, he starts drinking harder than ever to drown out the thoughts of her.
-In Rehabklok, when Pickles's drinking is brought to the attention of the band and he's sent to rehab, he tries for a while to blame it on St. Cecilia. She broke his heart, and he drinks to cope. It makes perfect sense, until he starts to really think about it and realizes that he's equally at fault for how their relationship (And also SnB) fell apart. He realizes, after many years, that he hurt her as badly as she hurt him. And that makes him feel even worse. He talks the doctor into letting him call her to apologize, but it doesn't go well: She's a little offended that he would even consider blaming her for his drinking, given he was a drunk long before they met. "Is that what I am to you now? An excuse to get drunk and act a fool?" Not long after that, Pickles realizes the real cause for his drinking.
-Just before Charles goes to speak to the UN in Doublebookedklok, he calls St. Cecilia and cryptically asks her if she speaks Latin. She owes him a favor for getting her out of some legal trouble, so she can't really refuse. Several months before, she punched a scummy paparazzo who called Magnus washed-up, and Charles used his reeducation program to keep those involved from pressing charges or damaging St. Cecilia's reputation.
-Season 4:
-In Fanklok, before Charles meets with the band to discuss Klokikon, he welcomes St. Cecilia to Mordhaus and presents her with an ancient-looking journal that belonged to Aurelius Isambard, one of the original prophets of the Church of the Black Klok. She's taken down to the basement, where she's introduced to Edgar Jomfru, and gets to work.
-In Diversityklok, after he's spoken to Edgar, Charles speaks to St. Cecilia. He finds her engrossed, but thoroughly worried. She asks if the Prophecy is real, and she's even more worried when he tells her it is.
-Offscreen, St. Cecilia has been hard at work translating the journal, and she's come to a passage that seems to describe the growing tension between the band. It also mentions an approaching star, and she takes to sitting on the roof at night to observe the sky.
-In Prankklok, when Pickles tells Nathan that he's not allowed to drink any tequila during their friender-bender, Nathan tells him he can't visit St. Cecilia when they stop in London. It's mostly a joke, and Pickles plays it off as such. Not long after, we see Pickles on his phone, though, debating on calling her just before he notices the storm warning.
-Offscreen, St. Cecilia approaches Charles about a phrase repeated over and over in the journal: Fata sidus oritur, the star of fate is born.
-After Charles breaks the news about the Ice Festival to Skwisgaar in Bookklok, he goes to speak with St. Cecilia and Edgar in the basement. She's tacked two star maps to the wall: One from the previous week and one from the previous night. There's a spot near the center of the first map that seems bigger on the second one. She looks like the world is ending when she tells him it's the Doomstar. It's real. It's coming? When? Soon, she says. Far too soon.
-When Charles tells the boys he's going out of town in Dethcamp, it's to take St. Cecilia to an observatory, where they meet with Ishnifus and spend a few days tracking the Doomstar's movements as it comes closer and closer to Earth, trying to figure out how long they have before it arrives.
-In Going Downklok, when Pickles shows up all decked out for his meeting with Abigail, Nathan is quick to ask, "Don't you have a girlfriend?" Pickles insists he doesn't; He and St. Cecilia were both hurt and angry the last time they spoke. On top of that, he believes she's all the way in London, and Abigail is right there. He's always been one to take the easy route.
-Offscreen, between Dethdinner and Breakup Klok, St. Cecilia is tagged in the video of Pickles quitting Dethklok by a drunken Toki. She's incredibly hurt. Pickles has nothing, he said. She, apparently, is nothing.
-In Breakup Klok, Pickles tries to call St. Cecilia to invite her to his wine tasting, but she refuses to answer and sends him straight to voicemail on several occasions. Towards the end of the episode, after the escape from Salacia, Charles requests a check-up on Edgar and St. Cecilia back at Mordhaus, and Pickles is stunned and angry to learn that she's been more or less within arm's reach for months. Had he known, he's certain things would have been different-- He wouldn't have tried to make a move on Abigail and he wouldn't have fucked up his chance to get back with St. Cecilia again.
-Offscreen, St. Cecilia speaks to Charles about staying at a hotel for a few days, just until Roy Cornickelson's funeral, after which she'll return to Mordhaus and her translation work. The day of the funeral, though, she receives a call from Magnus telling her she absolutely cannot attend, as he can't guarantee her safety. It's the last time she has contact with him before his death. We also see her watching the news about Dethklok's breakup and the insinuation that Abigail caused it, and St. Cecilia chucks a bottle at the TV, mirroring Pickles's actions in SnB II part one.
-In Church of the Black Klok, St. Cecilia is fetched from the hotel by Klokateers and taken to the Dethsub, where she meets with Charles, pointedly ignores Pickles, and goes to work with Edgar instead.
-The Doomstar Requiem:
-In "One of Us Must Die," St. Cecilia can be seen on one of the slides, staring up into the sky with Isambard's journal held to her chest. Towards the end of the song, reading from the book, she sings, "Dethklok, they must be rejoined/Evil, it must be destroyed/No more apathetic stoics/They can learn to be heroic/Write the song that will be our salvation..."
-In "Training," while carrying the journal, she sings the lyrics, "As the prophecy foretold, the Doomstar has been born/And you all will be endowed with a power known to none." Nathan, Skwisgaar and Murderface are looking at the art of the Prophecy, but Pickles is watching her. Ishnifus places a hand upon her shoulder, and they sing together, "The Dethlights are within you all waiting to be woken/And when the five are united, the evil will be broken," in a show of solidarity.
-In "En Antris et Stella Fatum Cruenti," just after Ishnifus is killed and the Doomstar goes red, we see a shot of Charles, Edgar and St. Cecilia at the Church, watching the sky.
-In "Morte Lumina," in a mirror to Nathan and Abigail's kiss, we see Pickles approach St. Cecilia, and she presses a kiss to his palm (Which is a really significant gesture between them) before he pulls her into his arms.
-Note: She has a potential song of her own in Halestorm's "Love/Hate Heartbreak," the lyrics of which could be addressed to Magnus or Pickles.
Symbology
Color: Baby pink.
Animal: Arctic fox.
Gemstone: Diamond.
The Alignment: Neutral good.
Favorites
Food: Chicken Tikka Masala (Though she has to have it extra mild because despite being a quarter Punjabi, she's still an English gal and can't handle spice. Peter often makes fun of her for it).
Least Favorite: Any sort of fish dish.
Drink: Bombay Sapphire gin.
Least Favorite: Coconut water.
Color: Baby pink, gold.
Least Favorite: Red.
Animal: Foxes.
Least Favorite: Seagulls or badgers.
-Abigail Remeltincdrinc: They became friends mostly due to the fact that they were both women in the music industry (And both working for Crystal Mountain), and supporting each other seemed like the right thing to do. Abigail getting involved with Dethklok and catching Pickles's attention quickly became a sore spot, and they drifted apart after that. After DSR, things got even worse. Abigail, naturally, is glad that Magnus is gone, while St. Cecilia is devastated by the loss. They had something of a falling-out over it, and they haven't really spoken since, and they're both totally okay with it.
Character Relationships
-Pickles the Drummer: Their relationship is a complicated one. They've known each other for ages, and they've been together through the highest highs and the lowest lows, all the way down to rock bottom. She partially blames him for her late teens and early twenties being the fiasco they were, and she cut off contact with him for a long time after the SnB breakup. During the run of the show itself, the two reconcile somewhat and even become more or less friends before Abigail shows up and things start to crumble again. They have a hard time admitting it, but there's love between them, and there has been for a long time. They're both afraid to try getting together again, though, as there's a mutual fear of the relationship ending as it did the first time, with them hating each other again. It nearly killed both of them the first time. They're unofficially back together at the end of Doomstar, but there's no way of telling if the love between them is enough to keep them together or if they'll just fall apart all over again.
-Magnus Hammersmith: They were more off-and-on than anything, but they were together for years, even though quite a bit of it was long-distance. It wasn't supposed to be a serious thing. It was just supposed to be a quick fuck. Then it was a performance to get back at Pickles, but Magnus quickly realized that St. Cecilia's feelings for Pickles were too strong for her to be of any use to him in his revenge plot. The basis of their bond formed because they understood each other on a level they've never known with anyone else: Former Snakes N' Barrels guitarist St. Cecilia Jameson and former Dethklok guitarist Magus Hammersmith both understand on a fundamental level what it's like to be left behind and forgotten. Magnus caught a bit of feelings himself, and when Roy Cornickelson's funeral came around, Magnus warned St. Cecilia not to attend. It was their last interaction, and it forever cast him in a positive light for her, even after she learned what he was doing with the Metal Masked Assassin. During Doomstar, she stuck with Charles and Dethklok solely to try and find Magnus. She was devastated by the loss.
-Charles Offdensen: St. Cecilia really likes Charles, actually. He's basically the only person on the show who's really "on her level" class-wise. He attended Harvard, and she attended Oxford, so they have a great deal to talk about. They play a lot of chess and fence on occasion, and if it weren't for her feelings for Pickles and his obligation to the Church, they just might have gotten together. A time or two, we catch him quietly watching her, or her shooting wanting looks his way. There's a very real spark between them.
-Skwisgaar Skwigelf: St. Cecilia is nothing short of enchanted by Skwisgaar. It's not a crush, exactly, but she has a huge amount of admiration for him. They've practiced together a time or two, but she's a little rusty and winds up with her fingers bleeding because her calluses have gone soft. He tends to tease her over her soft hands. A guitar god, he tells her, can't have hands like a princess. His calling her princess becomes a bit of a thing for them. The two of them often have brunch together, talking shit and drinking. She's good for him; He's never had a female friend before.
-Nathan Explosion: They get along pretty well. Their first meeting was at a singers-only Crystal Mountain party, and they ended the evening with a quickie in the coatroom. He wrote a song about the encounter, but Pickles never figured out that it was about St. Cecilia, which Nathan thinks is just the funniest thing. He mostly sees St. Cecilia as one of the guys once she meets with Dethklok again for the SnB reunion. It's a "been there, done that" kind of deal. She's not brutal, but she's funny and she's fun, and goddamn, is she pretty, and they would absolutely hang out if they could get their schedules to line up.
-William Murderface: St. Cecilia actually has a begrudging fondness for Murderface. He's awful, but he's also pretty funny, and she likes to hear him talk about knives and medieval weaponry, as her family home is full of such things. They also have the same car (Lamborghini Aventadors, hers in metallic rose gold and his matte black), and tend to race on occasion. They clash over things, of course, but she likes being around him more often than not.
-Toki Wartooth: Within the series itself, St. Cecilia hasn't given Toki much thought. He's cute, but he's just sorta there. His incident during the SOBERTOWN USA concert really scared her, and she more or less avoids him after that.
-Edgar Jomfru: Despite being very different people, St. Cecilia really enjoys Edgar's company. He merely tolerates her at first, but she grows on him, to the point where they're legitimately friends come Doomstar. The two of them often have lunch together on the roof of Mordhaus so they can get some fresh air. He's the smartest person she knows, and she lowkey enjoys the fact that she sometimes struggles to keep up with him. She feels safe knowing that if she can't figure something out, he's there to help.
-Snakes N' Barrels: Sammy is the only one of her bandmates she really kept in touch with after the breakup. He was her favorite long before Pickles joined. There was a pregnancy scare not long after the band took off that somehow, against all odds, brought the two of them even closer. Sammy was St. Cecilia's first love. Her relationships with Tony and Snazz were much more professional, though none of them were anywhere near professional. The crown tattoo behind her right ear was done by Tony on a drunken night in, and it was too good a night for her to even consider covering it or getting it removed. She and Tony slept together a few times, but there was never really any romantic connection between them. She and Snazz don't have much of a connection at all. They don't really get along.

THE IMPORTANCE OF INDIAN FESTIVALS
It's the whole question of the world --the moons, the values and myths," says Malvika Singh, editor of India magazine, a cultural publication in New Delhi." They are the life of the people. It's not so much a festival as living and prayer." In India, the abundance of festivals originates from the nation's religious diversity. For many, festivals are personal family affairs. However, there probably are several countries where rituals are performed with such public zest and uninhibited gaiety. These include the smaller melas or classic state fairs, and they frequently are as colorful as the bigger spectacles. Significant temples have their own calendar of events, honoring favorite deities in the town. The feast is devoted to the thousand-headed hydra, Ananta, whose coils form the couch of Vishnu and represent eternity. On this day, live cobras or their graphics are worshipped, and snake charmers do a lively business. Bengal and Kerala are facilities for snake worship. Some festivals celebrate a specific god's birthday such as Ram navami for arrival of lord Ram, Ganesh chaturthi or Ganesh utsav for arrival of lord Ganesha, Christmas celebrated for arrival of lord Jesus Christ. Sivaratri (March 8) is a feast in honour of Shiva and parties center from the sacred city of Varanasi at north-central India. The loyal hold processions into the temples and all-night vigils, which are supposed to guarantee material prosperity and heaven after death. The folks chant mantras to remain alert and alert the lingam, a stone phallus that symbolizes Shiva. The bamboo and paper figures tower against the fading evening light. Celebrated in late October or early November, households spend the weeks before Diwali sprucing up their homes, buying gifts and stocking up on festive foods and sweets. It's reminiscent of Christmas in Western countries. So many reasons and lots of seasons for many festivals. Not everybody follows every festival. Fundamentally we Indians long ago obtained it that festival is a motive for entire family to meet and catch up, be together, relax and feast together and live happily. Festivals also give us a much needed break from our everyday occasionally monotonous life. Here's a sampling of important festivals, their date this season and the best places to watch them. (A comprehensive calendar of Indian festivals can be obtained through government tourist offices in big Indian cities.) Holi (March 26) is an extravagant Icelandic feast marking the coming of spring. It's a time for playing tricks on others and making them seem ridiculous, even people who are your social superiors. Bonfires are lighted and the roads are packed with people throwing colored powder or water. The god Krishna, an incarnation of Vishnu, is often honored at this moment, so the very best to go through the festival is in Mathura, his birthplace, south of Delhi. Kumbha Mela (the second week in April) is held just once every 12 years, and will occur this year in Hardwar, a north India mountain town.
This festival is India best periodic honest. Millions will flock to the town to bathe in the Ganges, which plunges through a mountain gorge now and starts its slow motion to the Bay of Bengal in the east. One myth states that a god in the shape of a bird uttered a coveted kumbha or jar of ambrosia and stopped at Hardwar on the way to heaven. Another suggests the sacred nectar spilled in this place. (really Krishna), probably is the most famous Hindu shrine. An enormous decorated chariot, 45 ft high with wheels seven feet in diameter, bearing a picture of the god, is pulled through the streets by pilgrims.
It's most spectacular in Delhi, which stages a vibrant military extravaganza. Pushkar Cattle Fair (Nov. 16) is among India's most vibrant events. Over 200,000 people flock into the city, bringing with them thousands of camels, cows and horses. It's an important tourist event with a massive tent city set up to accommodate 3,000 visitors. Advance reservations are advised. Ugadi / gudi padwa is brand new year for Kannada Telugu Tulu and Marathi speaking people that is a festival of new year after the language that these individuals are speaking specifically Kannada Telugu Tulu Marathi. On the night of Diwali, which is known as the Festival of Lights, buildings and houses are summarized with countless oil candles and lamps.
Festivals like karva chauth, bakri identification and ramzaan come on a specific phase of the moon. "It's the tiny festivals," says Singh,"which are really the mind of the country." To get a visitor to India, a festival is an opportunity to glimpse the heart and soul of the nation. Significant parties are open to tourists, but others are mostly family vacations. Ganesh Chaturthi (Sept. 7) is enthusiastically celebrated in Bombay. The feast honors the favorite elephant-headed god whose odd appearance has a lot of explanations. The most prominent is his jealous father, Shiva, found him guarding his mother's home, failed to recognize him and lopped his head off. To placate his wife, Shiva promised to get the boy a new mind. The first one that could be procured was the elephant. In Bombay, pictures of Ganesh, the god of wealth, are transported through the streets to the waterfront and immersed in the sea. Some festivals such as vata savitri, varalakshmi vratam, karva chauth etc are distinguished by girls by keeping fast for extended life of the husbands. Karadaya nombu is a festival one of tamilians observed by woman child to married women, where they tie a sacred yellow thread around their necks and pray for good husband (unmarried women ) and long life of the spouse (married women) and this same man ought to be their husband to get next every birth. Understanding and appreciating a festival, it is helpful to have a basic outline of the Hindu pantheon. Brahma is rarely worshipped today. Vishnu and his wife Lakshmi still are widely admired. He and his wife, Devi, may take tens of thousands of forms and are known by several names. In the coming months, there could be chances to see many more. For India is a nation imbued with the joyous spirit. Religion is a living force , and festivals are its saying. India is a land of individuals who follow many religions and lots of gods. The reason we have numerous festivals is since some are based one's faith, some to celebrate god's birthday, some derive from harvest seasons, some are based on new years of different religions or languages, some are based on solar calender and a few are based on the phases of the moon and moon calender. The middle for the feast is Mathura, where dances are held to honor the god of dance and song. Young men form human pyramids and try to break yogurt pots hanging over the roads. This is in honor of the child Krishna who stole yogurt with the support of his friends. Many significant holidays are observed throughout the country, but how they're celebrated varies from area to area.
In New Delhi, Dussehra focuses on the exploits of Rama, the Traditional Hindu hero. Pictures of the goddess are carried through the streets and immersed in the sea or river. Dances, drama and other cultural displays are often held. Some festivals also occur by year like vasant panchami which celebrates spring. There are a few festivals celebrated solely to celebrate the brother bond and family bonds like kanupadi the day after Pongal, Raksha Bandhan, Bhaubeej. The event is Dussehra, the culmination of a 10-day Hindu festival. It commemorates a scene from the Indian epic,"The Ramayana," where the hero king Rama defeats his evil rival Ravanna and his allies. Festival of the Automobiles (July 9) is a colossal event held in Puri in the eastern state of Norissa. The Temple of Jagannath, lord of the world
Festivals like makar Sankranthi, pongal, baisakhi, Tamil new year, vishu arrive annually on a date which changes only by one either back or forth. These are harvest festivals dependent on sunlight. Baisakhi Tamil new year and vishu are new years for Punjabi, Tamil and Malayalam speaking persons that is according to Hindu calender. Nowadays, traditional Buddhism is confined mainly to the temperate areas. The Dalai Lama and his followers fled to the city following the Chinese invasion of Tibet, and it is now a centre for Buddhism and Tibetan culture. Onam Harvest Festival (Sept. 15) honors a fanatic, Mahabali. The devil was exiled into the nether world by Vamana, an incarnation of Vishnu, but each year he's permitted to return to go to his former kingdom. It's the most significant festival in Kerala and comes at the end of the monsoon. These sleek canoes with cobra-shaped sterns are paddled into the rhythmic strains of south Indian ship songs.

Review: A Thousand Beginnings and Endings by Ellen Oh and Elsie Chapman
A Thousand Beginnings and Endings by Ellen Oh and Elsie Chapman is an anthology retelling of East and South Asian mythology through various female voices. Review under the cut.
Rating: ★ ★ ★ 1/2
The description of this is a little short, but that’s because, like I said, it’s an anthropology. Anthology means that there are several stories inside this small one. This is definitely one of the better YA short story collections I have read. As with all anthologies, some stories are much stronger than others, but I enjoyed far more than I disliked. Plus, it was just so great to see the exploration of mythologies we don’t often see in the mainstream. And, honestly, it's just so refreshing to see fantasy stories outside of the vaguely-Medieval Euro-centric books we've come to expect. There's a whole world of fascinating history and culture out there - it's time to explore it! My average rating over the fifteen stories was 3.7. Now I will rate each one and discuss my thoughts on them. This is going to be a long one so buckle up!
Forbidden Fruit by Roshani Chokshi - 5 stars
The collection gets off to a bang with this gorgeous Filipino fairy tale and love story. I didn't love Chokshi's first novel The Star-Touched Queen, but I have to say that her flowery, poetic writing works MUCH better in a short story. It's lush and vivid, raising goosebumps along my arms at its end. A goddess falls in love with a human man - oh, what could possibly go wrong?
Olivia’s Table by Alyssa Wong - 4 stars
This was a little strange, but in the best possible way. Wong takes on the Chinese Hungry Ghost Festival in her story. A young girl who has lost her beloved mother makes it her duty to feed crowds of ghosts. It's a tale about grief, told in sweet, subtle interactions. There is something so wonderful and sad about this uniting of the living and the dead through food.
Steel Skin by Lori M. Lee - 3.5 stars
If I was rating the ending alone, this would probably get five stars. It's a science-fiction story with androids, but also about grief and the loss of a loved one. There's the familial aspect: the narrator's relationship with her father hasn't been the same since her mother died; and also a mystery aspect: she teams up with a friend to uncover the truth behind the androids that were recalled. For the most part, I glided through the story, kinda enjoying it but not really loving it like the previous two. And then the ending happened. Perfection.
Still Star-Crossed by Sona Charaipotra- 2 stars
It's a shame about this one because it took some interesting steps but stopped very abruptly and strangely. I turned the page and was shocked to discover that it was over! It's a Punjabi folktale retelling and the author's explanation for the story was really interesting, but I didn’t think her intentions came across at all. The main guy was pretty creepy, too.
The Counting of Vermillion Beads by Aliette De Bodard - 4 stars
Like a lot of these stories, this one was quite weird. Though I found myself really liking it. I also found myself doing some reading into the Vietnamese story of Tam and Cam, which starts like something of a Cinderella tale, in which a jealous sister envies the other's beauty and it leads to tragedy. Here, Bodard rewrites it with a more positive spin, showing the power of sibling love above all else.
The Land of the Morning Calm by E. C. Myers - 5 stars
Aww. This was one seriously emotional, beautiful story about loss and gaming. As gaming is such an important part of Korean culture, it was great to see it explored here. And while I usually find video game-centred stories too light and silly, Myers did a fantastic job of showing how a game can be really important for someone. It can be a much-needed escape, a creativity outlet, or a doorway to an unending universe. I liked this story so much because it took something I don't usually love and did something new and deeply moving with it.
The Smile by Aisha Saeed - 4 stars
Well, I always like a good feminist fairytale! And I LOVE what Saeed did with this one. She takes a tragic love story and rewrites it to give a king's courtesan choice, freedom and agency. It's a gorgeously-written South Asian addition, and somehow both happy and sad. Happy, because it is about a woman finally getting to make her own choices and understanding what love really is. But sad, because much must be given up for the sake of freedom.
Girls Who Twirl and Other Dangers by Preeti Chhibber - 3 stars
This was okay. I enjoyed the alternating between Hindu myths and a modern-day celebration of Navaratri, a holiday I had never heard of before. But, though educational, I didn't feel as much of a spark with this one as I did with the others. It was light, but fairly bland. It seemed a little too long, too.
Nothing into All by Renée Ahdieh - 4 stars
I really enjoyed this one! It's a retelling of the Korean folktale Goblin Treasure and I loved what the author did with it. A girl makes a trade for goblin magic so she can achieve her dream of going away to music school, but her brother becomes angry that she isn't using the magic to make gold that could benefit the family. It's a tale about siblings, forgiveness, the decisions we make and how bad actions can be hiding a good person.
Spear Carrier by Rahul Kanakia - 2 stars
Too long and emotionless for my tastes. I felt like this story was droning on and on in parts, and I neither learned something new from it, nor experienced an emotional response to it. The protagonist goes on and on about wanting to be a hero, and about life and death, and I just took so little away from reading it.
Code of Honor by Melissa de la Cruz - 2 stars
There was a definite slip right around this later middle part of the book. My two least favourite stories were lumped together here. Melissa de la Cruz's work seemed to be a companion to her Blue Bloods series, which I have not read and don't particularly have any interest in. This story was about Filipino aswangs - vampire witches - and contained a lot of gore and gruesomeness, but not a lot of emotion. A potentially interesting concept that left me feeling cold.
Bullet, Butterfly by Elsie Chapman - 4 stars
Gorgeous. Chapman retells the Chinese tale of the Butterfly Lovers - a "tragic tale of two young lovers kept apart by familial duty". Set during a war, this reimagining sees a boy posing as a girl and falling in love with another girl called Zhu. The author breathes new life into a very old concept - that of forbidden love and being torn between duty and what your heart truly wants. Beautifully-written with a touching ending.
Daughter of the Sun by Shveta Thakrar - 4 stars
Inspired by two stories from The Mahabharata, this is a powerful feminist tale about sticking to your guns and putting your true passion first. Always. I loved reading about the two stories this was based on - about “Savitri and Satyavan” and “Ganga and Shantanu”. The theme of a smart woman cleverly tricking a god or demon or jinni seems to come up a lot in South Asian folktales and I must confess: I like it.
The Crimson Cloak by Cindy Pon - 5 stars
Oh, I loved this! I'm not sure why but I sometimes love it when the narrator speaks directly to the reader with a conspiratorial wink (You can never out wait a goddess, Dear Reader. I have all the time in the world.). In this, Pon retells “The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl”, which is itself a wonderful folktale, but here becomes even more so. It's very romantic, definitely a love story, but it's a good one. The author gives a voice to the mostly silent weaver girl in this version, allowing her to tell the story from her perspective.
Eyes like Candlelight by Julie Kagawa - 4 stars
I wonder if this story has anything to do with Kagawa's upcoming novel Shadow of The Fox because it is also about foxes (well, kitsunes, to be precise). Takeo, the protagonist in this story, is an extremely likable hero and we get pulled along for an adventure with one of Japan's most loved mythical creatures: kitsunes. Typically, human/fox shapeshifters. It's also a little creepy, too. Kagawa captures the eerie small-town setting perfectly and, let's not lie, there's something deeply unsettling about never knowing whether a human is really a human or something else.
Overall, this was a stunning anthology. I would really love to see more fantasy short story collections exploring mythologies around the world with own voices authors. If you like fantasy and you like short stories, I highly recommend these.
Until next time.

Just hire me, American Girl, because I have so many great character ideas
Modern
An adopted Asian girl (hell, an adopted girl in general)
A girl with two dads or two moms
If not an actual trans girl like Jazz Jennings, a girl whose sibling is transitioning
A daughter of Indian immigrants
A MUSLIM GIRL (and please name her Amina because I love that name, and let her mother be a hijab-wearing BAMF who speaks, like, five languages and has seven Ph.D.s)
An immigrant/refugee girl
A girl dealing with the loss of a parent
A girl whose sibling comes home from the army and is struggling to adjust to civilian life
A girl getting adopted from foster care (the story doesn’t have to be SUPER dark but can just be about feeling rootless for a while and then finding family but adjusting to her new life)
(Freals, we need more stories that are less puffy. They don’t have to be super morbid, because children, but not all kids have perfect happy lives, so more stories that represent the girls who do have bumps in the road and show a new point of view to the girls that don’t experience stuff like that.)
A Native girl
Biracial girls who aren’t half-white, like a black/Vietnamese girl or a Pakistani/Dominican girl
(I feel like, in these crazy times, American Girl could really revamp its GOTY line and send a message about empathy and seeing perspectives other than your own.)
Also a black girl from Charleston of the Gullah culture would be cool
An Armenian American girl (I just really want to see that and I don’t know why)
Historical
Jamestown (preferably a Native girl, because if someone’s going to dethrone Kaya as the First American Girl it should probably be another Native girl)
A Chinese or Japanese girl during the 1880s Wild West Era (both because Asian representation and I used to have a Billy the Kid obsession so bringing up the Wild West would be superb)
Famine Irish
A girl who comes through Ellis Island (maybe Italian American)
A Native Alaskan girl
A Native Hawaiian girl
Maybe a girl who has one Native parent and one black parent who’s an escaped slave
At the turn of the century in California there was a lot of intermarriage between Mexican women and Punjabi immigrant men, so a daughter of one of those pairings, and touch on the blending of cultures and the anti-immigrant idiocy that surrounded them
Side note: I literally just pulled these out of a hat within a half hour, so imagine what people could come up with if they actually put time and effort into it.
Holy crap, thanks to @i-cannot-live-without-coffee for this!

As a 1/2 black, 1/2 puerto rican girl who doesn't speak spanish (although my mother's side of the family does) and feels disconnected from the latina culture sometimes, what do you say? I always worry that I focus on stereotypical things to feel more Puerto Rican, or like I'm not puerto rican enough. It doesn't help that I'm extremely dark, and look pretty much like I'm only black. I just feel like not speaking spanish is really horrible, and though I took it in school, I'm horrid at it!
Hey so first? let me give you a hug.
I’ve been hearing a lot lately about people who don’t feel connected to their Latin@ heritage. And I get it, but I also really want everyone who’s Latin@ to be able to embrace their identity.
Latin@ culture is easy to feel disconnected from in the US. Especially depending on where you live, and how accessible your culture is. Uh, there’s a lot to talk about so I hope I get to everything and don’t just ramble at you.
When I was in high school, I went to like boarding school? It was like the first time I was away from my family, and a major Latin@ community. I felt like without them, I just blended in as another white person? Which, I know it’s not the same experience and being white passing (and colorism in general) comes with it’s own set of privileges that shouldn’t be ignored. But it was really invalidating.
I felt like I was constantly losing a piece of myself because I didn’t have a community to fall back on. So I started relearning Spanish (the US is a bitch about multilingualism but hold that thought). I had this period where I binge watched the George Lopez show? I tried to throw phrases they said into conversations with my friends (even though my mom would make me wash my mouth with soap if she ever heard half the stuff I said). And I tried way too hard to like tamales and to be friends with people I didn’t get along with (but they were Latin@ so--)
There were a lot of holes I was trying to fill to make myself feel like I was a “real person”. Including how much I clung to my ex because he made me feel like I was queer enough to call myself bisexual. Basically, my life has been a series of intersecting identities that all don’t feel like I’m enough to call myself something but I’m also not heteronormative enough either.
I think ever since then, I’ve gone through periods where I tried too hard to feel “Latin@ enough” or tried too hard to fit into the mold white heteronormativity. Honestly, I think coming out as genderqueer helped a lot with that? Because it became really clear that I definitely couldn’t fit in with white cishet people, so it helped me embrace being Latin@ a bit more.
Which, obviously you don’t have to be queer to use the term Latin@. It’s gender neutral, but I also took a lecture with my best friend at a community college one time called Queer Latinidades about different Latin@ identities that don’t fit the norm, and being Afro Latin@ is so fucking valid and amazing but it’s constantly overlooked because Latin@ culture has a tendency to veer toward internalized racism and Anti-Blackness. Which is really shitty, and as a community we need to do fucking better.
So, uh, I hope this doesn’t come out wrong, but fuck anyone who says or makes you think you don’t look Latin@ enough. Being Latin@ means being from or descendant from Latin America. Latin America is just as (if not more) racially diverse as the US. We’re Nativos, Filipino, Punjabi, Bengali, Chinese, Japanese...being Latin@ is about being mixed race and dealing with all of the shit that comes with that. But it’s also coming from rich backgrounds and getting to celebrate being one of a kind.
(but yea, there’s also the whole “one of a kind can feel really isolating” thing)
Going back to Spanish. It’s a fucking Catch 22 honestly. The US is really shitty about people being multilingual. People make shitty assumptions about you if you can speak a second language (that isn’t French) well. Then the foreign language curriculum that are required by most schools are inadequate. They don’t focus on comprehension and immersion, they focus on repetition and “retention”. So it’s hard to be good at Spanish when you don’t have the resources to do that.
Um, I’m really lucky because my best friend is also Latin@ and they were raised in El Paso. So they practice with me all the time now. But before, I just watched telenovelas and practiced on duolingo if I felt like I was slipping. (That’s this constant fear I have, that I’m loosing my language. That one day I won’t understand shit and I won’t be me because I won’t have Spanish to fall back on.) Which, I know is bullshit. But it’s hard to unlearn the idea that speaking Spanish makes us more Latin@. Plus, some Latin@ people from other countries get REALLY smug when Latin@ people in the US can’t speak Spanish. As if they’ve never struggled with English.
It’s honestly ok if you’re not great at speaking. Fuck, sometimes I crank up some Raggaeton as loud as possible and don’t pay attention to half of what they’re saying. I think when you can’t make exactly a community for yourself, it’s about digging deeper and finding ways to appreciate your culture.
So taking in art (music, films, tv shows, paintings/pottery/etc, books ~ Isabelle Allende is Peruvian but her books are good and have been translated to English) and...events? Like, I think I never feel as Latin@ as I do than when I get to visit Mexico. But that’s one of those things that’s based on economic privilege more than practicality. So when I can’t do that--museum exhibits and theater are cool. Being Latin@ can mean being this really eclectic blend of spiritual and religious. Which honestly doesn’t have to be more than keeping some holy water and homemade rosary beads around. Or, if you’re like mi abuela, talking to dead people.
Wow, this went on longer than I thought it would. Uh, I hope this helped? Basically, you’re not alone, you’re feelings are valid, and you’re really fucking amazing. I hope you know that. Thanks for sharing

Rajnish Gambhir Author Interview Family Writing Scotch and Golf Rajnish Gambhir watched first ever film Sound of Music at the age of 5 Rajnish Gambhir is a down to earth guy whose family is his first priority Rajnish Gambhirs priorities are in the order Family Writing Scotch and Golf He is a down-to-earth guy whose family is his first priority. Then his writing followed by Scotch and golf! Meet Rajnish Gambhir. Welcome Rajnish.Your real name and pen name?Rajnish GambhirPlease share some of the best memories of your childhoodTill the age of 9 I lived in a large joint family in a huge ‘haveli’ (built by my late grandfather). My fondest childhood memories are of the years spent in this ‘haveli’ – be it playing cricket with my cousins uncles and friends or going for picnics or participating in festivities together! I also fondly recall watching my first ever film ( ‘Sound of Music’ ) at the age of 5.About your education?Went to St. Paul’s School (Darjeeling) and La Martiniere for Boys (Kolkata) before graduating in Commerce from St. Xavier’s College (Kolkata). What career did you plan during your education days?I always dreamt of becoming a doctor. Even during childhood my favorite possession was a ‘Doctors’ set’ (or sets) that my mother would frequently buy me! What languages you can speak and write?EnglishHindi Punjabi Bengali (though I cannot write in Gurmukhi). What is your biggest source of inspiration in life? The loving bond with my wife and children. What hurts you most in this world? Not that I’m easily hurt. But yes at times when I’m misunderstood by a loved one! If you had to live a day of your life as one of the living dead personality who would it be and why?Rajesh Khanna (of the early seventies). I’m his huge fan – out of his seventeen consecutive hits of the early seventies I don’t think I’ve missed watching even a single one. Reason – To relish the fame of receiving letters ‘written in blood’ by beautiful women!! Also to get the opportunity in having myself filmed opposite Sharmila Tagore for the evergreen romantic number ‘Mere dil mein aaj kya hai’ (Daag). What is your favorite genre and why?Fiction and Biographies. When did you start writing? What is the purpose of your writing?I ‘casually’ wrote throughout my school and college days (basically poetry) – but all confined to my ‘secret diary’. Post marriage I would often choose blank cards and script poetic lines before presenting them to my wife! Presently I am more into novels as writing long stories provides me a platform to share my thoughts with my readers through the characters I have so lovingly created! Which of your work has been published so far? Would you like to share asynopsis of your work?My debut novel ‘A Passion Beyond Extremes’ (Leadstart) was published in 2013. The novel is an intriguing love triangle set in Calcutta Darjeeling and Bombay shrouded in a well crafted mystery. The second novel ‘Honour For A Ransom’ has been recently published by Leadstart (March 2016). This is a heartrending love story set in Punjab and England during the pre and post colonial era with ‘honour killing’ as the major theme. What are your forthcoming writings?I’m working on my 3rd novel which will be a romantic thriller. What genres you write in and why?Romance Romantic thrillers – because I have grown up reading these genres. What keeps you motivating towards writing? The urge and curiosity to create interesting characters to shoulder the story I always wanted to tell. If Writing a Book is taken as a project What are the key essentials youtake care of in Project Management?Good editing a striking cover an appealing (but concise) back cover blurb and finally an effective book promotion strategy. How do you plan schedule and monitor your writing commitments?Since I’m not a full time writer I do not have any fixed schedule for writing. For me planning a chapter (or a part of it) along with the layout of the episodes and necessary research on essential facts together with jotting down relevant notes is an absolute pre-requisite. Once these are in place writing becomes easy and then I needn’t have a fixed schedule. It can be early morning or late night or even during office hours (when I’m relatively free!) What are your future plans? To continue with my corporate job and simultaneously write more novels. What is generally your preference in reading a paper book or ebook? Andwhy?Paperbook definitely. The feel of a well published paperbook in your hands cannot be compared to any other format! Secondly I have grown up reading paperbacks and hardbacks since in our younger days e-books didn’t exist. What four top most things you take care of while writing a book?Basic plot characterization climax and flow. I have the first three clearly chalked out (in detail) before even embarking on the first chapter. I try to ensure that every chapter (or part there of) ends on an inquisitive note prompting the reader to eagerly seek what’s next. This is important in order to maintain an engaging ‘flow’ of the story being told. How much real life goes into a fiction writing?Quite a bit. I feel what one has actually experienced can be best expressed in words. Is a high level of imagination important to have for an Author?Yes of course. Your origin of birth and other countries you have visited/ stayed. Whatbest things you liked in these countries around the globe?Origin of birth – Kolkata. Countries visited / stayed – USA UK Nepal Bangladesh Thailand China Singapore Hong Kong PhilippinesTaiwan Dubai. The ‘French Quarters’ of New Orleans for its unique architecture London for its ‘old world charm’ and Thailand for its mouthwatering local cuisine deserve a special mention. Favorite time of the day?Late evening when I’m relaxed at home after a long day! Your zodiac/ sun sign?Taurus. Your favorite color and why?Blue. I guess it looks good on me. What is the last book you finished reading? What is the current book you are reading?Last book I read was ‘A Prisoner of Birth’ by Jeffery Archer. I am currently reading ‘To kill a Mockingbird’ by Harper Lee. Your favorite book and why?Difficult to pick from a) Master of the Game (Sidney Sheldon) – simply loved the character ‘Kate Blackwell’ for her steely determination and ruthless business sense b) Death on the Nile (Agatha Christie) – such a baffling murder mystery superbly crafted and c) The Seventh Secret (Irving Wallace) – an incredible plot so skillfully woven by the author. . Your favorite movie and why?Amongst English – ‘One flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest’ for Jack Nicholson’s amazing performance and a heartrending script. Amongst Hindi – ‘Aandhi’ for award winning performances by Sanjeev Kumar and Suchitra Sen coupled with haunting melodies credited to Gulzar (lyrics) and R.D.Burman (music). Your favorite celebrity and why? Your favorite food?Chinese. Possessed with a ‘sweet tooth’ I am extremely fond of desserts too (Indian and Western) often amenable to second helpings! Your favorite sports?Golf. What is the force that drives you?I always try and read the word ‘Impossible’ as ‘I am possible’! What comes to your mind when you think of India?Saare jaahan se acchha! Some quickies: Sun orMoonLaughteror Smile Morning orEveningCoffee orTeaMountainor Sea Long Drive orShort Drive Silence or ConversationWateror Fire Air orEarthMars or Jupiter Tulip orRose Red orBlue Left orRightGlance or StareFameor Money Boy or Girl Day orNightTreeor PlantLoveor PassionWhat three words come to your mind for each Technology: essential growth employment Life: precious beautiful useful God: supreme powerful feared Humanity: essential charity care Terrorism: cowardice insanity inhuman Racism: inhuman arrogance stupidity Childhood Abuse Love: God family friends Parenting: love care education Old age: respect care patience. First thing you do in the morning after waking up?Quietly praise the Lord. The last thing to do before sleep?Have a glass of water. If one fine morning you wake up and find your sex changed to the oppositewhat will be your first reaction?Horrified! State your signature line/ tagline/ best quote’There is a higher court than courts of justice and that is the court of conscience. It supersedes all other courts’. (Mahatma Gandhi). The last line of your autobiography would be?I am truly thankful to God Almighty for what I am today. The title of your autobiography would be? Will decide when I actually plan to write one!! 100 Days of Writing
[Day 15] Does your WIP have fairytales? Do your characters tell mythical stories to each other?
Another unique question from @the-wip-project! One of my original WIPs actually is a fairy tale!
Modern-day setting, a friendship group of very diverse characters, a mystery, and it all started from one of the most unique and captivating prompts I’ve ever seen.
I got about two pages in - not even a full chapter - and the whole thing ground to a screeching halt because my poor white, cishet heart chickened out.
See, I’m white, but I had some unique experiences growing up that shaped my worldview a little differently. I spent several formative years overseas, in countries where white people were the minority. What’s more, the few white people I did hang out with had also spent a lot of formative time in white-minority countries. Most of them spoke languages like Arabic, Farsi, Mandarin, and Greek. When I was forming my first real impressions of political and social systems, I was a white person living among and in deference to POC. By in deference, I mean that I learned their language, I didn’t expect to be catered to in English. My first boss, my teachers, nearly all authority figures, were BIPOC.
Then I moved back to Canada. My brother met and married a woman from Thailand and they had a son. My first boyfriend was Métis. My second boyfriend was Chinese. Then I married my next boyfriend, who does happen to be white. So my kids are blond haired and blue-eyed. When my parents, my kids and the two of us sit down for a Sunday dinner, we look like a Norman Rockwell painting.
We live in one of the most diverse areas of an already metropolitan kind of city… the kind where you can walk down a street and pass an Ethiopian restaurant, a Punjabi sweet shop, a British imported grocery store, and a Malaysian restaurant all in a row. My kids go to a school that is minority-white, which is rare for even this area, but we feel perfectly at home there. My daughter was the only white student in her kindergarten class, and she would come home and lament that she wished she could speak Mandarin or Cantonese or Korean or … and she would say her hair wasn’t nice… she envied the tight curls or long shiny black hair of the other girls in her class. I remember comforting her and thinking what a trip it was that she is getting this experience right here in our white-majority country. How many other little girls have cried into their pillows, wishing they looked like ‘the other girls’ in their class? Now my daughter has that empathy built in already!
We may be a mostly white family, but most of our friends from work, the kids’ school, and life-long friends are actually BIPOC.
So I didn’t think anything of it when my cast of characters for this modern-day fairy tale story showed up in my head, all excited about this discovery they’d made. They made sense to me. Each one reminds me of someone I actually was/am close to in real life. But then… I shared some of it on a forum and got absolutely blasted because I apparently have no business writing BIPOC characters if I’m white.
But it feels so illogical… I’m supposed to write from experience, right? Well, it’s literally my experience that from that age of 14 until now, if I sat down at a table in a school cafeteria, a popular coffee shop, the bus, an event at my kids’ school, I would literally be looking around at faces that don’t look anything like mine, and there would be several languages being spoken, some of which I actually understand because of exposure. That’s normal to me. I’m not making up something I’ve never seen before, this is my actual experience.
I’ve gotten the same thing about writing LGBTQIA+ characters as a cishet, straight (I guess?) woman. But I’ve been so blessed to be close to people in that community! I was close to a woman I worked with for years who was trans, I have a very young cousin who just came out as trans last year, my nephew is gay, and I’m like… so I really have to make my stories white, cishet and straight, because that’s what I am? Even if I once walked into an all-white church in Texas and couldn’t even stay for the service because it felt so unbelievably weird and uncomfortable? Even if the very first time I got to console a heartbroken niece or nephew, it was a same-sex relationship?
I get that so much of representation in fiction is actually really problematic and even toxic… but I can’t see how the answer to that is more stories that look like the cast of “Friends”, which struck me as bizarre even when it was running. I can’t see how me writing a white character who only knows white people is remotely helpful, especially since I literally would need to research what that’s like. What the hell would that be like? Ugh! Not a story I want to write, that’s for sure!
So the fairy tale I would love, love, love to write is on hiatus for a while until I figure it out. No way do I want to risk harming or offending people. But there’s also no way I can write all those teenagers as white and straight, because they just aren’t, okay?
And that’s my rant for the day… if you read the whole thing, you’re a sweetheart and I love you.
#100daysofwriting#writing#bipoc oc#lgbtqia+ OC#representation in writing#representation matters#i would tag this BLM but i dont want to seem like i’m using the tag to promote myself?#so consider it tagged black lives matter but not in a way that’s trying to get my post more traffic or something

psa: indian culture with a dash of sikhism
some of this gonna be nitpicky but-
as a Sikh Indian American (born and raised in America) i have noticed a few things that have rubbed me the wrong way, and i just wanted to spread some information. i’m sure most of y’all don’t need this info but if one person learns something that would be cool. this is gonna be all over the place
1. this one is real nitpicky but it’s chai, not chai tea. also naan, not naan bread. this one doesn’t matter much, but it’s still nice to know. it’s the same way most people just call tortillas “tortillas” and not “tortilla bread”
2. India is in Asia!!! in this day and age, we should all know that there are 7 continents and India is not one of them. India is in South Asia (not a continent, i’m sure you know but just to be safe-). Indians are still Asian even if we don’t look like the stereotypical Asian
3. there is not a language by the name of “Indian”. India has 22 official languages, including: Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Telugu, Urdu, etc. do not ask “do you speak Indian?” or “are you speaking Indian?”, instead consider asking “do you speak any languages?” or “what language(s) do you speak?”
4. stop asking if we are American Indian. when someone says they are Indian there is a higher chance that they are from India, rather than being an indigenous person.
5. just a reminder: Hindi is a language, a Hindu is a person who is a follower Hinduism
6. this one kind of goes for any BIPOC but an Indian person does not know every Indian person. don’t assume someone might know someone, just off of their race. also it is not interesting to hear about all the Indian people you know. when you talk to a white person, you probably wouldn’t talk about your white neighbor, or white doctor or white coworker just because they are white.
7. don’t assume anyone who looks somewhat Middle Eastern or South Asian is Muslim. the amount of times someone has asked me why i’m not wearing a hijab is unbelievable. first of all, not every Muslim woman wears a hijab. second of all, don’t assume someone’s religion. that should go without saying but apparently some people need to have it said to them. it’s heartbreaking to hear stories of people who are not Muslim being told islamophobic things (nobody should be saying islamophobic things to anyone!!!). It’s not dark comedy to shout “Allahu Akbar” at people.
8. do not use arranged marriages against Indian culture until you have educated yourself on it. i will never support arranged marriages with children involved or marriages where the someone does not consent. arranged marriages have changed a lot from what people take these old stereotypes
“A 2013 IPSOS survey found that 74 percent of young Indians (18-35 years old) prefer an arranged marriage over a free-choice one. Other sources report that as many as 90 percent of all Indian marriages are arranged. Despite doubling in urban areas since 2007, only about 1 in 100 Indian marriages end in divorce.” Psychology Today
9. you can not convince me that Indian representation in American media is okay. never have i ever and yesterday are great examples of what South Asian representation should be. besides this, what are some very famous examples of Indian characters. Apu from the simpsons and Raj from the big bang theory have not helped Indian stereotypes. i don’t mind them but when this is some of the only representation of Indians that people see, it can be harmful.
one time i was having this conversation and someone brought up Kali from stranger things. it was great to see her, but she was only there for 2 episodes. it’s nice to see Indian characters but what I want is more shows with characters that Indians can relate too or see themselves in. i don’t see myself in Apu or Raj and it hurts if the only characters that look like you are over-exaggerated stereotypes.
10. Indian clothes are not a costume, so do not call them that. this part will be written in the experience of an American Sikh girl, so it might differ from what others have experienced.
there are many different styles of clothes and they are not all saris.
pretty much everyone in my family wears American clothes everyday except for my older aunts and great-aunts. there is nothing wrong with wearing Indian clothes in public, and if you appreciate someone’s clothes you can compliment them. don’t ask for a picture of the Indian costume (the way that never have i ever showed an accurate depiction of this)
Gurdwaras are Sikh temples. To be respectful, people entering should cover their heads and dress modestly. Sikh women typically wear chunnis, a long scarf, on their head. they are not hijabs or any other Muslim head covering. everyone should keep their head covered while in temple, but when not in gurdwara it’s okay for a chunni to be draped on shoulders.
a popular dress for temple is a salwar kameez aka a suit. they are modest and can be very detailed or very plain. the suits have long loose pants (salwar), that are normally tighter near the ankles. they have a long tunic/dresslike top. they are also worn by younger girls.
saris are generally not worn by young girls. saris have a shorter top that normally shows some of your stomach. there’s a long skirt that has a long fabric that wraps around covering the front of the stomach and laying over the shoulder (that was a horrible description). these are typically not worn to gurdwara, but to parties.
11. this might just be me but: if you’re not Indian don’t do an Indian accent. it’s so annoying. it’s just interesting to me how people will say not to AAVE, or imitate Chinese accents, both rightfully so, but the same people will give all the reasons why it’s okay to imitate Indian accents. i really don’t want to offend anyone because i know it’s not the same but i’m tired-
12. here’s some Sikh rules, i myself don’t follow a lot of these rules but they might be nice to know for a few of you.
kesh, not cutting hair, is a Sikh rule because it is a way of honoring God’s gift of hair. Sikh men and women may go their entire life without cutting their hair or shaving. some Sikh men wear turbans which protect a Sikh’s hair and it should not be removed in public. do not ask someone to remove their turban. most of my family cuts their hair and that’s okay. my uncles and my grandpa wear turbans, yes turbans can be removed in the privacy of a home.
kara, an iron bracelet worn at all times that signifies a permanent bond to Sikhism. my father has been wearing his for so long that he cannot physically take it off now (a pain at airports). some parents start putting them on their babies. i no longer wear a kara because i got mine when I was around 11 but it was not a high quality one and it rusted very quickly. when I was wearing one, a classmate pulled it off and used it as a stencil. don’t be like that classmate.
a lot of Sikhs are vegetarian because one of the Sikh commandments is not to eat sacrificial meat. some Sikhs include eggs as something they do not eat. some Sikhs will eat chicken and turkey, but not red meat.
so that was a rant- i don’t think anyone will see this but if you do, i hope this was maybe relatable or educating lmao
#india#indian#sikh#hindu#gurdwara#culture#psa#imagine someone reading something this long with no pictures

Dating asian girl in uk
3 Best Dating Sites To Meet Indonesian Girls Online U ser Name : Uugolf 29 Yrs : I'm self employed, siingle, helpful and family loving. Seeking a soul mate 30 - 50 yrs. In the 1950s and 1960s women across Asia got a small dose of Western feminism that led to the end of many of the harshest constraints on young women, like foot binding and the general policy of not educating girls, but Asian women did not buy into the entire feminist manifesto. Having lived abroad in Asia so many years, one of the most attractive things to me is how cute and fashionable some girls are, no matter their race. For over 10 years, AsianDating has connected thousands of Asian singles worldwide.
Online dating Asian girls: Why do 'creepy white guys' only want to date them? Seeking a soul mate 51- 60 yrs, goodhearted. User Name : Ying11 39 Yrs : I'm divorce with 2 grown up children. Online dating Asian girls: Why do 'creepy white guys' only want to date them? I wish you all the best in searching for your dream Indonesian lady. These girls are much tougher than home grown girls, they are harder to crack and have a little bit of an attitude because they have been hounded by guys for a while, especially if they are smokin hot. Seeking a soul mate 58 - 70 yrs. Asian mail order brides have a reputation for being exceptionally devoted to their husbands and children. In the light of globalisation, Asian dating becomes extremely popular. Most women from Asia really dislike having multiple relationships or constantly breaking up with different guys. This isn't the first time the phenomenon has been examined noted that apart from men wanting to contact Asian women, people on the whole were less than keen to make contact outside their own race.
Dating An Asian Woman User Name : Tu9 I'm a cloth designer. They are fully immersed with their own race, so dating another race is usually a grey area. Looking forward to our happily ever after. It is not only thanks to their good genetics — they make efforts to look amazing in any situation. Searchin g for a true soul mate 35 - 65 yrs, warmhearted and don't mind a woman with children. Look through our gallery and see how wide the circle of choices is — you will definitely pick a girl that completely fits your preferences and dating purposes.
Indian Dating UK Events Hindu Sikh Punjabi Gujarati These women have grown up online, informed, and are very modern girls in many respects, and, really, it is worth remembering that Cico-Cico San was a very strong individual. What types of guys book romance tours? Some guys might judge it to be boring; however, it is a significant quality that enables Asian women to succeed both in their careers and personal life. Please don't hesitate to contact me. Or you can get married quite quickly too. We are committed to helping you find the perfect match, no matter where in the world they may be.
Uk Women, Uk Single Women, Uk Girls, Uk Single Girls The internet has changed that situation. This can vary wildly from country to country, ranging from weeks to years, ensure you know beforehand. They want a special Western man who understands their individual needs. And the disgusting foul breath? Communication is Key The most important thing is communication. We are constantly working to add beautiful Thai women, gorgeous Vietnamese ladies, and perhaps even some sexy Japanese girls to the profiles we currently review. It is important for a Western man to have some understanding of the tradition of arranged marriages in Asian culture. They have the talent of great listeners.
Indian Dating UK Events Hindu Sikh Punjabi Gujarati The ideal Asian woman only has one partner in her life. But that is only part of what attracts so many Western men to seek girlfriends and wives in the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, , or another Asian nation. Seeking a soul mate 40 - 60 yrs. A tip: all penises look approximately the same. Although they can continue living in Thailand but many are willing to relocate to share their love and lives with their soul mates. CupidMedia Group who owns a broad range of niche websites focuses on dating.
Asian Women for Marriage The impression that online dating is like online shopping, and lists of qualities add up to the perfect mate, goes against what we all know to be true in the real world: lists of stereotypes don't work. The reason is that breaking up or ending a relationship is much less desirable to an Asian woman. Start Your Success Story On AsianDating As a premier dating site, we successfully bring together singles from around the world. A good Asian wife loves her husband without hesitation, vacillation, or questions. You can relax and focus on meeting the right lady and they will take care of all the annoying little details like food and shelter. Well, I wish to whisper to you that I'm seeking my sexy guy to be my boy friend and soul mate.
Asian Women for Marriage I can speak English and work as a Branch Manager. Even though we were both based in Leicestershire the chance of us bumping into each other any other way were more like a needle in a haystack. Not the same like my little Asian. The vast majority of the Asian girls have been raised in heavily patriarchal societies. Some are very successful, particularly among the Chinese women, because the Chinese economy has opened many opportunities for smart, driven ladies, but societal expectation have not kept pace with economic growth. I know, I've done the hands-on research. If a girl is with you, she is probably quite serious about you, and is looking at eventually marrying you.
