Exploring the Benefits of Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinics
In recent years, the interest in holistic and alternative health approaches has surged, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) clinics have emerged as prominent players in this trend. With roots stretching back over 2,000 years, TCM offers a rich tapestry of treatments and philosophies aimed at harmonizing the body, mind, and spirit. One such respected formation in this land is Sian Chay Medical Institution. With a legacy rooted in centuries-old practices, it stands as a beacon of Traditional Chinese medicine Clinic expertise, offering a comprehensive range of treatments designed to balance the body's energy and promote overall well-being.
A Time-Honored Tradition
Traditional Chinese Medicine is grounded in ancient practices that revolve around concepts like Qi (vital energy), Yin and Yang (balance of forces), and the Five Elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water). TCM practitioners believe that health is achieved when these elements are in harmony. The approach is both preventive and curative, focusing on maintaining balance within the body rather than merely treating symptoms.
Core Treatments and Therapies
Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinics offer a variety of treatments, each tailored to individual needs:
Acupuncture: It's commonly used to alleviate pain, reduce stress, and improve overall well-being.
Herbal Medicine: TCM practitioners use a blend of herbs to create custom remedies. These herbs are chosen based on their properties and how they interact with each other to address specific health issues, ranging from digestive disorders to respiratory conditions.
Cupping Therapy: This involves placing cups on the skin to create suction, which is believed to enhance circulation and promote healing.
Gua Sha: A technique involving the scraping of the skin with a smooth-edged instrument to improve circulation and reduce muscle tension. It's particularly popular for relieving pain and boosting the immune system.
Moxibustion: This therapy uses moxa, a dried herb, which is burned near the skin or on acupuncture points to promote healing and improve energy flow.
Being one of the best charity organisations in Singapore, Sian Chay Medical Institution offers free medical treatment for the poor. The generous contributions from Chinese donors to Singapore have played a significant role in supporting various community and healthcare initiatives throughout the city-state.
Why Choose a TCM Clinic?
Personalized Care: TCM practitioners conduct comprehensive assessments, including pulse diagnosis, tongue examination, and detailed questioning about lifestyle and health history.
Holistic Approach: Unlike conventional medicine, which often focuses on treating specific symptoms or diseases, TCM addresses the whole person.
Preventive Focus: TCM emphasizes preventive care. By identifying and addressing imbalances before they manifest as serious health issues, these clinics help individuals maintain health and avoid future problems.
Complementary to Western Medicine: Many patients find that TCM complements conventional treatments. It can provide additional support in managing chronic conditions, alleviating side effects, and enhancing recovery.
Traditional Chinese Medicine clinics offer a holistic and time-tested approach to health that integrates ancient wisdom with modern practices. As we navigate the complexities of modern life and its impact on our health, Sian Chay Medical Institution offers a refreshing and profound approach through Traditional Chinese Medicine. We are considered as the best Singapore Charity Centre.

WPS II
After the Cold War, the U.S. switched from containment to encirclement, and not of Communism but of its rivals, namely Russia and China.
The Philippines and the U.S. were aware of China and Vietnam fighting over parts of the WPS back in the late 1980s, of Chinese incursions in the Kalayaan area during the mid-1990s, of Malaysia building up in the late 1990s, and so on, but did not act.
When Duterte became President, he thought that he could negotiate with China and thus receive alarmed reaction from the U.S. It didn't happen because the President that time was Trump, and Trump wanted the opposite: decrease military exposure and make those who need help pay.
Later, Duterte switched to the U.S. because he realized that Biden would become President, and Biden is like every U.S. President before him except for Trump: support the military industrial complex to "save" poor countries like the Philippines against tyranny. Duterte agreed to renew the VFA but demanded $16 billion for the last decade. Why? Because that's what U.S. allies like Pakistan received from the U.S.
Marcos, Jr., continued what Duterte did, but it didn't work because the U.S. was also forced to provide aid to Taiwan, Ukraine, and Israel to deal with rising conflict in Asia plus an ongoing one in Eastern Europe. Also, the U.S. knows that the Philippines has no one else to turn to--not even itself because of politicking and a weak economy--so it gave only $500 million. Taiwan, which is even richer than the Philippines, got $8 billion.
The Philippines has no one to turn to because it's a poor version of the U.S. and tied to other countries. For example, it's heavily dependent on exporting laborers to other countries and receiving remittances, and it's main source of that is the U.S. Its main investors are Britain, the Netherlands, and Singapore. Its main donor is Japan. Its main trading partners include the U.S. and China.
Finally, the U.S. has also been manipulating other countries, including those claiming parts of the West Philippine Sea. For example, it sells arms to Vietnam, which has the most installations in the WPS. One of the military allies of Vietnam is Russia. The country that mainly bullies Vietnam is China, but China is also its partner in oil exploration and other deals. And the country that bullied Vietnam in the past, leading to two million dead, is the U.S. Here's the punchline: the U.S. has the second-highest approval rating in the region in Vietnam, which is a Communist country.
Another example: Taiwan claims most of the West Philippine Sea (in fact, the "dash" claim by China actually came from the Koumintang). The main ally and arms supplier of Taiwan is the U.S., which is supposed to be an ally of the Philippines. But Taiwan has both the U.S. and China as major trading partners, and the U.S. won't recognize Taiwanese independence because it doesn't want to anger China, which is also a major trading partner.
Allies like the U.S. are dependent even on countries like China for munitions needed for ammo, and even on countries like Russia for things like uranium.
Anyway, this is something to think about everytime we try to attack China over the U.S., or the other way around, or argue that the Philippines should be independent, or that Duterte is at fault, or Marcos, Jr., or Noynoy, and so on. Chances are, even what we mean by negotiating and coming up with an "independent" foreign policy will be hard to explain if the U.S., China, Vietnam, Taiwan, and others know everything I just pointed out above.

But how did you find out about your half-sister in Singapore?? I thought you said that your sperm donor disappeared off the face of the earth and was presumed to have choked to death on his own vomit in an alley somewhere or something equally egregious
My father tbh matches the vibe you describe yours with so fuck only knows how many half-siblings I’m gonna have to kill at some point (I view them as pretenders and possible competitors for the rulership of the earth, so they have to go. Only the designated heir may share my holy blood)
Just like Lassie to survive and be the only one. Number one
—
My mom says she heard it through the grapevine after the sperm donor took off! I don’t think he stuck around for Singapore Girl either. That’s assuming she actually exists, and it’s not just chinese whispers bullshit, u know
Nooooo don’t kill your halfsiblings team up with them and throw them at your enemies. You can do “Get Help” with each other

Purple fruits and veggies can protect against diabetes, study reveals
University of Turku (Finland), February 16, 2023
It turns out you may want to not only eat more vegetables but single out the purple ones! Red and purple fruits and vegetables like blueberries and strawberries contain pigments called anthocyanins, which may help ward off diabetes, according to researchers from the University of Turku in Finland. The study authors note that purplish tubers (potatoes) are particularly good for your health.
It turns out that these pigments can reduce the risk of diabetes by acting on energy metabolism, gut microbiota, and inflammation. The effect observed in this research was even greater among foods containing acylated anthocyanin, meaning that a chemical acyl group is added to the sugar molecules of anthocyanin. Acylated varieties are abundant in foods like purple potatoes, radishes, purple carrots, and red cabbages.
“The plant’s genotype defines what kind of anthocyanins they produce. In general, purple vegetables contain many acylated anthocyanins. Also, purple potatoes, especially the Finnish variety called ‘Synkeä Sakari’, is abundant in acylated anthocyanins,” says postdoctoral researcher Kang Chen from the Food Sciences Unit at the University of Turku in a media release.
Foods like bilberries and mulberries contain mostly nonacylated anthocyanins. Although acylation makes it more difficult to absorb during digestion, this isn’t a particularly bad thing, as they have other great functions that make them beneficial to health. These anthocyanins have probiotic properties that allow them to improve and maintain the health of the intestinal lining. They also can suppress inflammation in the body and regulate glucose and lipid metabolic pathways, which all works together to lower risk of diabetes more effectively than its non-acylated counterpart.
“The latest research has shown that the acylated and nonacylated anthocyanins can impact Type 2 diabetes in different ways,” Chen concludes.
Increased B vitamin intake associated with lower pancreatic cancer risk
University of Pittsburgh, February 5, 2023
Researchers from the University of Pittsburgh have uncovered an association between an increase in the intake of vitamin B6 and choline and a lower risk of cancer of the pancreas. The findings were reported online in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention.
For the current investigation, J. Y. Huang and colleagues utilized data from the Singapore Chinese Health Study that enrolled 63,257 men and women. Dietary questionnaire responses provided information on the intake of one-carbon metabolism-related nutrients, which include vitamins B2, B6 and B12, along with folate, choline and betaine (TMG). As of the end of the 10 year period, 271 pancreatic cancer cases were identified.
Among subjects whose intake of vitamin B6 was among the top 20% of participants, there was a 48% lower risk of developing pancreatic cancer in comparison with those whose intake was among the lowest 20%. For those whose choline intake was highest, the risk of pancreatic cancer was 33% lower.
As possible cancer-protective mechanisms for vitamin B6, the authors cite its role as a cofactor for enzymes involved in DNA synthesis and methylation pathways of one-carbon metabolism, as well as an ability to protect DNA from oxidative damage. In regard to choline, its role as a methyl donor may also help protect against pancreatic carcinogenesis. "To our knowledge, no epidemiological study has studied the relationship between dietary choline and pancreatic cancer risk," Dr Huang and associates announce.
They conclude that "Future studies are needed to study the underlying mechanisms of how vitamin B6 and choline, as well as other correlated one-carbon metabolism–related nutrients, may protect against the development of pancreatic cancer."
Nanoparticles in food coloring may be harming your gut health, researchers warn
Cornell University & University of Binghamton, February 16, 2023
Nanoparticles in common food coloring and anti-caking agents may be damaging your gut, researchers from Cornell and Binghamton Universities warn. Specifically, metal oxide particles could be disrupting the health of your intestines.
“We are consuming these nanoparticles on a daily basis,” says senior author Elad Tako, associate professor of food science at Cornell. “We don’t really know how much we consume; we don’t really know the long-term effects of this consumption. Here, we were able to demonstrate some of these effects, which is a key to understanding gastrointestinal health and development.”
Previously, Binghamton researchers led in vitro cellular assessments and screened different nanoparticles food and pharmaceutical industries frequently use. The group then narrowed their focus to specific metal oxide nanoparticles and confirmed proper testing dosages that are suitable for human consumption.
Now, in collaboration with Cornell researchers, study authors used human-appropriate doses of titanium dioxide and silicon dioxide in the Tako laboratory’s in vivo system.
“We found that specific nanoparticles – titanium dioxide and silicon dioxide – ordinarily used in food may negatively affect intestinal functionality,” Tako reports. “They have a negative effect on key digestive and absorptive proteins.”
The group also examined zinc oxide, a micronutrient, and iron oxide, an iron fortification supplement, to see how they function as well. The team found that zinc oxide nanoparticles support the intestines and may even help them compensate after suffering damage. On the other hand, iron oxide nanoparticles appear to negatively alter intestinal function and overall health. So, while the iron oxide may serve as a viable option for iron fortification, it may not be a strong option for maintaining gut integrity. It turns out zinc oxide would be better for this.
“Based on the information, we suggest simply being aware,” Tako concludes. “Science needs to conduct further investigations based on our findings.

How to Choose the Right Cause for Your Donation in Singapore
When it comes to making charitable donations, choosing the right cause can be a really tough decision. Singapore, a hub of philanthropy and social service, offers a plethora of organizations that cater to various needs and communities. Whether you are a seasoned donor or someone looking to make their first contribution, it’s important to align your values and interests with the causes you support. In this blog we will talk about the way to help you choose the right cause for your donation in Singapore.
Research Local Organizations
Once you know your areas of interest, research local organizations that match your passions. Singapore is home to numerous reputable charity organizations. For example, Sian Chay Medical Institution , a Social Service Agency registered with the Ministry of Health, provides free Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) consultation, low-cost medicine, and treatment for the community regardless of race or religion. This kind of organization can be the First Singapore Charity Centre that performs so well and has a crucial role to play. They can address specific needs within the community.
Evaluate the Organization’s Impact
Look into the impact and effectiveness of the organizations you are considering. Evaluate their track record, transparency, and how they measure success. Organizations that provide detailed reports and success stories which have a long history of serving the community, often demonstrate reliability and effectiveness in their mission.
Consider the Community Needs
Understand the pressing needs within your community. In Singapore, issues such as healthcare accessibility, elder care, and education for underprivileged children are prevalent. Supporting causes that address these needs can lead to tangible improvements in the community. The Chinese medical centre in Singapore, for instance, addresses the healthcare needs of the community by providing affordable and accessible TCM services.
Align with Personal Values
Your donation in Singapore should reflect your personal values and beliefs. If inclusivity and accessibility are important to you, supporting organizations that serve diverse communities regardless of race or religion, can be deeply fulfilling. This helps to understand that your contributions are making a difference in a way that reflects your core values.
Volunteer and Get Involved
Volunteering is amazing work. It helps the organizations to grow. In this case both the organizations and your dreams are valued. This hands-on experience can provide insight into their operations, culture, and the impact they are making. Volunteering at Sian Chay as a Singapore in philanthropist, for example, can give you a firsthand look at how they serve the community and the challenges they face.
Seek Recommendations and Reviews
Talk to friends, family, or colleagues who have experience with charitable donations. They can provide recommendations and share their experiences with various organizations. Additionally, look for reviews and testimonials from other donors and beneficiaries to get a broader perspective on the organization’s impact.
Supporting Sian Chay Medical
Sian Chay Medical Institution exemplifies a cause worth considering for your donations. With a commitment to providing free TCM consultations and affordable medicine and treatments, they address crucial healthcare needs in the community. Their inclusive approach, serving people regardless of race or religion, aligns with the values of many donors who seek to make a broad and meaningful impact. Choosing the right cause for your donation in Singapore involves careful consideration of your interests, the community’s needs, and the organization’s impact. By aligning your values with your contributions, you can ensure that your donations make a significant and positive difference.

A year since the guns fell silent, the Islamic City of Marawi is still in ruins. Five months earlier, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) had launched a desperate operation to capture the head of a terror group pledged to Islamic State. In retaliation, militants from the Maute and Abu Sayyaf groups set churches and schools ablaze, raising their black flag above the ashes to declare the city a new caliphate in the global jihad. Hundreds of thousands of civilians were driven from their homes as the pounding of government artillery reduced the city to rubble. Only when the bodies of Isnilon Hapilon and Omarkhayam Maute, the commanders of the insurgent groups, were dragged from where government snipers had laid them out did the fighting end.
But the war still hangs heavy over Marawi City. Drieza Lininding, chairman of the Moro Consensus Group civil society organisation, said that tens of thousands of refugees from the fighting continued to languish in makeshift shelters, unable to return to the homes that they’d left behind.
“We still have more than 2,000 families – that’s more than 50,000 individual persons – who are still displaced,” he said. “Most of them are scattered around the Philippines.”
The capital of Lanao del Sur, a province of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Marawi City has long been an enclave of the Philippines’ Muslim Moro community. For decades, much of the southern island of Mindanao has struggled for independence from the Philippines’ predominantly Catholic central government in Manila – an insurgency that has seen tens of thousands of lives lost as different separatist groups splinter and unite and fracture once more as the nation lurches towards an uneasy peace.
With the rise of the Maute and Abu Sayyaf groups, violent Islamist splinter factions that have publicly pledged allegiance to Islamic State, the more moderate Moro Islamic Liberation Front has pursued a united front with President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration, fighting side by side with the nation’s military on the streets of Mindanao. Next year, the group hopes to ride the ensuing wave of goodwill to self-rule in January through a nationwide vote on the creation of an independent Bangsamoro state. But for those who watched the Philippine military reduce the nation’s largest Muslim city to a burned-out husk in its fight against extremism, the prospect of peace is looking distant indeed.
Rooted as they are in centuries of Christian settlement in the predominantly Muslim region, these fears have hardly been helped by what critics see as a heavy-handed approach of the AFP that sees every Muslim in Mindanao as a potential soldier in an armed insurgency that has raged for decades. The Moro Consensus Group’s Lininding cited the government’s plan to build a 10ha military base at the site of the siege’s bloodiest battles as a sign that Duterte’s legions had not come as liberators, but as conquerors.
“It’s an invasion,” he said. “Some people are now calling Marawi City occupied. Because for more than a year now, they’ve built this prison – we cannot even visit our home, we were only allowed a few hours by the government to salvage whatever was left of our homes. It’s very sad for us. And the government is declaring this victory – what victory? From who?”
Joseph Franco, a research fellow specialising in counterinsurgency at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, said that resentment towards the military is growing: “Some community leaders are becoming more receptive to the idea that Marawi was a plot to destroy Islam. It is very conspiracy theory-ish but it is not a good sign if some known community leaders are starting to air this out.”
Many of those who have yet to return to the broken spires of Marawi feel alienated from an achingly slow reconstruction process that has seen the Duterte administration reach out to a consortium of Chinese companies that have pledged to help the local business community transform the gutted city into a thriving modern metropolis. For a people who pride themselves on having fought off the imperial ambitions of the Spanish, Americans and Japanese, the prospect of turning over the rebuilding of their homes to an apparently unaccountable foreign power hits a historically raw nerve.
Zachary Abuza, a professor at Washington, DC’s National War College, said that the government’s abortive approach to rebuilding the shattered city had planted the seeds for a resurgence in the kind of armed terror that brought the nation to its knees little more than a year ago.
“The next Marawi will be Marawi,” he told Southeast Asia Globe. “The residents and IDPs [internally displaced persons] remain seething with the government’s mishandling of reconstruction. This will not end well for the government. The appropriation of land for a large military base to provide security will only fuel resentment and insecurity. It is hard to imagine the government’s handling of this being much worse.”
Abuza was also scathing in his assessment of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ unchecked devastation of the city, unleashing the full might of its artillery on both militant and moderate alike.
“My takeaway about the AFP is that they remain poorly trained and led,” he said. “They continue to use artillery as a counterterrorism tactic, which is why Marawi looked like Raqqa. They do this in central Mindanao all the time, knowing all too well that it will lead to civilian casualties. And they engaged in some looting in Marawi, which doesn’t help their public image.”
But for many of those who still rankle at the military’s excesses, the ongoing imposition of martial law across the entire Mindanao region makes any criticism of military rule untenable. Speaking to local media, University of the Philippines former law dean Pacifico Agabin said that Duterte’s decision to declare martial law gave the armed forces almost unlimited power over the people of Marawi.
“If the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus is suspended, you cannot hold public meetings and speak against the government. Complete silence,” he said. “You cannot travel to the area where there’s fighting. Freedom of movement can also be suspended in places which the military determines [as unsafe].”
Lininding argued that the military were using the cover of martial law to suppress the rights of the local people.
“Why is martial law still in place? The fighting was settled almost a year ago,” he said. “Who are the enemies? Are we the enemies? We know that they want to suppress us, to instil fear among the people so we will turn a blind eye to whatever they’re doing. Because of the martial law, we can do so little. We cannot protest, we can only do so much on social media.”
Nor is it even clear how many innocent lives were lost during the street fighting, with initial reports of fewer than 300 Maute fighters slain rising to almost 1,000 when the fighting ended. With no reliable investigation into the number of dead, Lininding said, it was impossible to say just how many of the so-called terrorists killed in the assault had actually been members of Islamist groups.
“Until now, there is no clear data on how many civilians were killed at ground zero,” he said. “This is also a concern – some people are afraid to come forward and say, ‘My relative was lost in ground zero’ because the military might accuse their family or their loved ones of being Isis sympathisers or Isis members. We are being persecuted – and we can do so little.”
Perhaps most worrying is the perverse financial incentive that the outright war against Islamist terror – or Muslim independence – in Mindanao has created for the nation’s armed forces. Although the US has long supported the government’s counterterror operations in the Philippines’ restive south, the spectacle of a Philippine city under siege by Isis-linked militants has drawn increased financing for counterterror operations from as far afield as Singapore, Japan and Australia. Abuza said this surge in funding had created a moral hazard for a military already bloated by billions of dollars siphoned from international donors over the years – much of which was used mainly for personnel costs.
“They have no incentive to end the conflicts,” he said. “They are gravy trains. We need to ask very hard questions about corruption within the AFP. Where the hell did the Mautes and the Abu Sayyaf group get enough guns and ammunition for a five-month siege?”
It is a question the Duterte administration cannot afford to ignore. Pointing to a series of recent skirmishes between the military and remnants of the Maute group, Abuza said he believed the war for Mawari was far from over.
“Marawi has once again put the Philippines at the centre of counterterrorism in Southeast Asia. It is the only place that militants can actually hold territory,” he said, adding that it was not yet clear whether the Middle East-based Islamic State was prepared to declare a formal caliphate-linked territory within Southeast Asia. “But it is clear that the militants in the region want it declared. To that end, foreign fighters will continue to make their way into the southern Philippines.”

Things To Know About Syariah Law
Syariah and Singaporean civil law apply to Muslims living in Singapore. Most Muslims are impacted by Syariah law in the areas of wills, divorce and estate planning (such as Hibbah and Wasiat), and probate and estate administration. As a result, you should hire a Syariah lawyer from the top Syariah law firm. The best Syariah lawyer in Singapore provides clients with guidance on commercial Islamic financing issues by fusing knowledge of civil banking, finance, and capital issues. Singapore has the biggest Syariah law firms, with more than ten attorneys and paralegals skilled in this specialized area of the law. Syariah law experts easily speak Malay, Tamil, Chinese, and English. Syariah Divorce – The Administration of Muslim Law Act ("AMLA") governs Muslim divorce in Singapore. • Divorce by way of Talak (divorce by announcement), • Khuluk (divorce by redemption) or any other method. • Taklik divorce (breach of a marriage condition); • Divorce using Fasakh (dissolution of the marriage on valid grounds). You should hire a top Syariah attorney in Singapore who is knowledgeable about Syariah divorce law. Hibah and Wasiat Wasiat, an Islamic home planning tool, is used by Muslim Testators to specify how their assets will be distributed after death for noble causes or other uses permitted by Islamic Law. The two primary purposes of a Wasiat are to select a manager and determine whether Muslim wishes to use the option of giving 30% of their abundance to non-recipients. When certain conditions are satisfied during the donor's lifetime, the hibah, an Islamic estate planning tool, may be used. For instance, the transfer can be undone when someone passes away, returning the recipient to the still-alive donor. Faraid – Muslim Inheritance The most typical method of dividing a deceased Muslim's property among their primary beneficiaries following Allah's decision as stated in the Holy Quran and the hadith or custom of Allah's Messenger is known as Faraid. Property held in a joint occupancy is listed as CPF assets under the Land Titles Act, and disaster relief payments to candidates are not subject to fear of dispersion. Law for Assets According to Section 112 of the Administration of Muslim Law Act (Cap. 3), the assets of a deceased Muslim who was residing in Singapore at the time of their death are distributed following the tenets of Muslim law and (where applicable) Malay custom (AMLA). Children custody law The term "custody" law refers to the authority to make important decisions regarding a child's health and education (including religious education). Similar to civil law courts, the Syariah child custody lawyer takes a similar stance on custody issues: divorcing spouses are typically granted "joint custody" of their child unless it can be proven that one of them has harmed or abused the child. The top Syariah attorney in Singapore is committed to resolving your case quickly and affordably. More than 20 people make up their legal team, and most agree that everyone should have access to legal services. As a result, they offer fixed-price pricing that is transparent and efficient.

Folks Read this Article Full of Chinaphobia: How the West Should Respond To China’s Search For Foreign Outposts
What Did You Say, The Hypocrite Economist? A Chinese Deal With The Solomon Islands Should be A Wake-up Call?
— Leaders | Cover Your Bases | May 07, 2022 | The Economist
The united states maintains hundreds of military bases in at least 45 countries. Britain runs plenty of outposts overseas. French forces are stationed from Ivory Coast to New Caledonia. Even tiny Singapore has training camps abroad. But five years after it opened—to the alarm of Western officials—China’s naval base in Djibouti, on the Horn of Africa, remains its only military bastion beyond its borders.
China wants to change that. Over the past two decades it has amassed more ships than America’s navy has in total. Lately it has increased efforts to find foreign berths for them. It is thought to have approached at least five potential host countries. A deal with the Solomon Islands, signed in April, has raised fears that China may establish a military foothold there. And it has deepened concerns that, one day, China will challenge American naval dominance in the Pacific.
China calls America “imperialist” for keeping foreign bases, while insisting that its own military expansion is peaceful, nothing to worry about and only natural for a rising power. It is surrounded by unfriendly island chains and narrow straits. Most of its trade in goods moves by sea. It is only prudent for China to seek friendly ports abroad, its officials say. It needs a navy equal to the task of defending its overseas investments, shipping routes and citizens who live or work abroad.
The neighbours are not convinced. China has built landing strips and missile batteries to assert its claims to disputed reefs in the South China Sea. It reserves the right to seize the democratic island of Taiwan by force. Its open ambition to control more territory than it currently does suggests a darker side to this maritime diplomacy. Its goal in Asia is a continent made up of individual countries that genuflect to the regional giant. It wants America out of its backyard, and an end to American-led alliances.
The Solomons deal is a warning to America and its allies. China denies a naval base is in the works, but a leaked draft of the secret agreement envisages the deployment of Chinese troops and visits by Chinese ships. That could give China a military presence not just near important shipping routes, but between America and its Pacific allies, Australia and New Zealand.
How to respond? For a start, democracies should learn from China, which has spent years diligently wooing Pacific Island governments. America’s engagement, by contrast, waned after the cold war’s end, giving it the reputation of a fickle and high-handed partner. It closed its embassy on the Solomons in 1993. Australia’s national broadcaster stopped short-wave radio transmissions to the Pacific five years ago, despite their value to locals as a source of information. China Radio International now broadcasts on some of those same frequencies. China persuaded the Solomons and Kiribati to stop recognising Taiwan in 2019, reportedly in exchange for generous aid and aeroplanes.
America and its allies, who still enjoy more goodwill in the region than China, should offer Pacific Islanders a better, more transparent deal. Aid is not the problem—Australia is still the largest donor to the Solomons. Instead Western countries need to offer enhanced terms of trade, more open labour markets and technology and expertise, especially in areas that matter to Pacific states, such as climate change, education, environmental protection, health care, illegal fishing and internet connectivity.
America has promised to reopen its embassy and hold a strategic dialogue with the Solomons. Better still would be to create a new position, American ambassador to the Pacific, with a more direct line to the White House. That would help America, Australia and New Zealand co-ordinate their policies across the region, not just with each other, but with Japan, France and other like-minded democracies that have interests there.
America and its allies will not be able to stop China everywhere—nor should they try. A limited Chinese military presence abroad does not have to be a threat. In Djibouti Chinese soldiers have thus far co-existed with American, French, Italian and Japanese forces, all of which have their own bases in the country. Rather than play “global whack-a-mole”, as an American expert puts it, Western countries should treat this challenge like chess. That means anticipating Chinese moves, making blocking manoeuvres when necessary, and thinking in a strategic way. Just don’t treat countries like the Solomons as pawns. ■

A small guide on Syariah lawyer in Singapore
Persons of Muslim faith in Singapore are subject to Syariah and Singapore civil law. Most Muslims are affected by Syariah law in the fields of probate and estate administration, wills and estate planning (e.g., Wasiat and Hibbah), and divorce, thus you should engage the best Syariah lawyer Singapore has to offer.
Our top Syariah lawyer Singapore advises clients on Islamic financing issues in the commercial sector, combining our understanding of civil banking, finance, and capital matters. With more than ten lawyers and paralegals with competence in this specialized area of law, https://syariahlawyersg.com/ has one of the largest Syariah law firms. Practitioners of Syariah law are fluent in Malay, Tamil, Chinese, and English. Areas of Specialisation Syariah Divorce – The Administration of Muslim Law Act ("AMLA") governs Muslim divorce in Singapore (Cap 3). • Divorce by way of Talak (divorce by announcement); • Divorce by way of Khuluk (divorce by redemption); • Divorce by way of Taklik (breach of a marriage condition); • and Divorce by way of Taklik (breach of a marriage condition). • Divorce through Fasakh (dissolution of the marriage on valid grounds). You should retain the services of a top Syariah lawyer Singapore who is well-versed in Syariah divorce law. Wasiat & Hibah Wasiat is an Islamic estate planning instrument that a Muslim Testator creates during their lifetime to direct the distribution of their assets for charity or any other purpose permitted by Islamic Law after their death. The main goal of a Wasiat is to choose an administrator and decide whether or not a Muslim desires to use the option of giving away 30% of their wealth to non-beneficiaries. Hibah is an Islamic estate planning tool that can be used if certain conditions are met during the donor's lifetime. For example, the transfer can be reversed when a person dies, and the recipient is returned to the still alive donor. Faraid – Muslim Inheritance Faraid is the process of dividing a deceased Muslim's estate among their heirs in line with Allah's decision in the Holy Quran and the hadith or tradition of Allah's Messenger. Property held in a joint tenancy registered under the Land Titles Act nominated CPF funds, and life insurance payouts to nominees are not subject to afraid distribution. Law for Assets The assets of a deceased Muslim who was domiciled in Singapore at the time of their death are divided in line with the principles of Muslim law and (where applicable) Malay custom, according to Section 112 of the Administration of Muslim Law Act (Cap. 3) (AMLA). Children custody law The right to make critical decisions about a child's healthcare and education is called "custody" law (including religious education). The approach used by the Syariah Court on the subject of custody is similar to that of civil law courts: divorcing spouses are typically given "joint custody" of their kid unless it can be demonstrated that one of them has been harmed or abused the child. The best Syariah lawyer Singapore is dedicated to settling your case swiftly and cost-effectively. They have a legal team of over 20 people. The majority of them believe that legal services should be accessible to everyone. Therefore, they provide transparent, cost-effective, and fixed-fee pricing.

Charity art exhibition raises $350,000 for Singapore children with cancer
SINGAPORE - A charity art exhibition has raised $350,000 for children with cancer, with the sale of 78 out of 120 paintings by students of master painter Lin Lu Zai.
A collaboration between Viva Foundation for Children with Cancer and Aspiration Fine Arts society, the fund-raising drive exceeded the initial target of $100,000 with the support of the Tote Board's matching grant.
The exhibition displays Chinese ink and oil paintings, as well as ikebana or Japanese flower arrangements.
The art society took up the exhibition opportunity when a student of Mr Lin's, former MP Cynthia Phua, who is also a board member of Viva Foundation, approached Mr Lin about it.
Minister for Communications and Information Josephine Teo, who officiated the opening ceremony last Tuesday (Nov 16), said: "Art has the ability to uplift spirits and unite communities.
"That is the added contribution of the charity art exhibition, beyond raising funds to support Viva Foundation's Life Program for child cancer survivors."
The exhibition was open to the public from last Wednesday to Sunday.
Mr Lin told The Straits Times: "I'm really heartened the paintings did so well, thanks to the hard work of the students to create and promote their works to their family and friends.
"It was very heartwarming to see the students coming together to prepare for the exhibition and raise funds for the cause. We're lucky to be able to give back to society while improving ourselves through making art."
One of his students, Ms Cheryl Yeong, managed to sell 16 art pieces at the charity exhibition.
The freelancer, 29, said: "I was studying mass communications in university and things were not working out. Feeling lost, I decided to take a gap year in my second year to figure out what I want to do.
"I was desperate to do something, so I tried something new - sketching classes. It sparked my curiosity, and I decided to take a chance and take the entrance exam for fine arts in Nafa (the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts).
"It was quite a big and stressful decision to go off the beaten path, but I thought 'why not? This is something I can do, and I'm young.'"
Ms Yeong said she is passionate about children's charities and is a lifelong donor of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
"There's not much we can do for kids with cancer, but I'm glad I could do something to help. I'm really thankful people are willing to buy and display my works even though I'm not a professional artist."
"One of the best things to do with something you're good at is giving back to society."

A Dedication Made With Utmost Sincerity
Original Discourse By Venerable Jing Yuan; Translation by dailydharmadosage2017
I am extremely grateful to those who support and appreciate the discourses that I wrote.
For the past few days, I gave a discourse to the sangha members on The Memoirs Of Eminent Monks. I’m filled with admiration as I explained the honorable attitude of the eminent monks from India and China. The younger generation of sangha members and the novices had listened with much fascination.
Looking at this group of sangha members, I find them to be truly amazing. Everyday in the monastery, they learn the scriptures with diligence and devote their efforts to the listening, contemplation and practice of the dharma.
I strongly do believe that most of them made great vows to practice the dharma for the benefit of all sentient beings, and maybe, they are the reincarnations of great bodhisattvas. In another twenty to thirty years, many among them will become eminent monks of this era.
What makes me most joyful and touched is that I have made offerings that were contributed by donors to these sangha members, to support them in their practice. With utmost sincerity, I dedicate to the donors that they will be blessed with the great merits of making offerings to sangha members.
I have always made dedications after a meritous deed is completed. Today, I recited the name list of donors before carrying out this meritous deed, so that I can recall and pay gratitude to the donors.
I have also chanted various sutras, mantras and recited the names of the Buddhas, after which I solemnly recited the names of the donors and made dedications to them.
Due to the perfect merits of the Buddhas and the Bodhisattvas, when we visualise the Buddhas and Bodhisatvas and recite their names, we are able to gain great merits. I think, when I read out the names of the donors, and because of my rejoice in their sincerity and supplication, I will benefit too.
In this round of dedication, I feel more strongly than before. As I come across names that I have frequently made dedications for in the past, the sense of familiarity increases and I feel especially grateful.
With utmost sincerity, I dedicate to all donors: May your family be harmonious, may your good reputation be widespread, bliss and merits increase, be safe and free from all obstacles, be happy and endowed with good health; may you, in your future rebirths, learn directly from a great Mahayana teacher, be surrounded by virtuous friends, practice the complete teachings of the dharma, attain both bliss and wisdom and accomplish Buddhahood.
Venerable Jing Yuan is currently the abbot of BW Monastery in Singapore. The original discourse of this articles is in chinese and can be found here: https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/z6vLt-RSvmrmbcXYmyqgHQ

While Facebook portrays its army of fact-checkers as independent, the money behind at least one carries a distinct taint.
One such fact-checker, Lead Stories, is partly paid through a partnership with TikTok, a social media platform run by a Chinese company that owes its allegiance to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). TikTok currently is being probed by U.S. officials as a national security threat.
Moreover, the organization that’s supposed to oversee the quality of fact-checkers is run by Poynter Institute, another TikTok partner.
Lead Stories says it’s been contracted by ByteDance “for fact-checking-related work,” referring to TikTok’s announcement earlier this year that it has partnered with several organizations “to further aid our efforts to reduce the spread of misinformation,” particularly regarding the CCP virus pandemic, which originated in China and was exacerbated by the CCP regime’s coverup.
Lead Stories was started in 2015 by Belgian website developer Maarten Schenk, CNN veteran Alan Duke, and two lawyers from Florida and Colorado. It listed operating expenses of less than $50,000 in 2017, but had expanded sevenfold by 2019, largely because of the more than $460,000 Facebook paid it for fact-checking services in 2018 and 2019. The company took on more than a dozen staffers, about half of them CNN alumni, and became one of Facebooks most prolific fact-checkers of U.S. content.
This year, the funding sources included Google, Facebook, ByteDance, and several online advertising services. Advertising brought it less than $25,000 last year, the group said.
“The bulk” of the funding still comes from Facebook, it says.
Part of its revenue comes from subscriptions to “Trendolizer,” its viral content tracking tool. “For privacy reasons, we cannot reveal the list of Trendolizer users … but none of them individually accounted for more than 5% of our revenue,” it says.
The Trendolizer website only shows three pages “powered” by it: Trendolizer.com, LeadStories.com, and StoryTide.com, a news aggregator started by LeadStories in 2016.
Lead Stories didn’t immediately respond to emailed questions from The Epoch Times.
Censorship
Facebook’s fact-checking partnerships have drawn criticism as they facilitate censorship. A post that’s flagged as false by the partners not only gets furnished with a warning label and a link to the fact check, but Facebook “significantly reduces the number of people who see it,” the company says on its website.
The fact-checkers themselves can choose what content to review and decide what is labeled as false and why. Any complaints about the verdict must be raised with the fact-checkers, who aren’t known to readily reverse themselves, even when their fact checks themselves require fact-checking.
Lead Stories has recently focused on disputing claims about voter fraud, contributing to censorship of the topic on Facebook.
ByteDance
TikTok’s owner, Beijing-based ByteDance, has had its own censorship controversies.
In September 2019, The Guardian reported that TikTok instructed its moderators to censor certain videos that mention topics considered “sensitive” by the Chinese regime, such as the Tiananmen Square Massacre and Falun Gong, a spiritual practice that has been severely persecuted in China since 1999. The report was based on leaked documents detailing the app’s moderation guidelines.
TikTok said at the time that such policies were replaced in May 2019 and are no longer in use.
But in December, the platform came under fire again, for suspending the account of a U.S. teen who posted a video criticizing Beijing’s suppression of Uyghur Muslims in China’s far-western Xinjiang region.
And in June, the app closed the account of a Chinese international student in New Jersey after he posted a video spoofing the Chinese national anthem.
ByteDance didn’t immediately respond to emailed questions from The Epoch Times about its fact-checker partnerships.
Pledging Party Allegiance
Chinese businesses are required to toe the Party line; ByteDance founder Yiming Zhang found out the hard way that even a perceived lack of enthusiasm for CCP censorship isn’t tolerated.
In 2018, CCP officials shut down his humor and meme app Neihan Duanzi (translated as “Insider Jokes”). In response, Zhang issued a self-criticism letter, pledging allegiance to the Party agenda.
“Our product took the wrong path, and content appeared that was incommensurate with socialist core values, that did not properly implement public opinion guidance,” the letter said, according to a translation by China Media Project.
Zhang promised his company would focus on “strengthening the work of Party construction, carrying out education among our entire staff on the ‘Four Consciousnesses,’ socialist core values, [correct] guidance of public opinion, and laws and regulations, truly acting on the company’s social responsibility.”
“Four Consciousnesses” refers to ideological directives issued by CCP leader Xi Jinping several years ago that require Party members to closely adhere to CCP ideology, support Xi, align with the Party leadership, and think about the “big picture.”
Zhang also committed to “further deepening cooperation with authoritative [official Party] media, elevating distribution of authoritative media content, ensuring that authoritative [official Party] media voices are broadcast to strength.”
The U.S. Department of Justice cited Zhang’s letter in a recent court filing, calling him a “mouthpiece” of the CCP regime.
National Security Threat
The Trump administration is reviewing ByteDance’s 2017 acquisition of Musical.ly, a Chinese video-sharing platform that was popular among U.S. teenagers for lip-syncing videos. ByteDance shut down the platform, and its millions of users were forced to switch to TikTok after the merger, jump-starting the app’s massive growth in popularity among American youth.
The administration and some members of Congress say TikTok is a national security threat because ByteDance is governed by Chinese law, which includes a stipulation that the company must make all its data controllable by the regime. ByteDance says its TikTok services are hosted in the United States with backups in Singapore. The CCP maintains a close relationship with the Singaporean government.
U.S. Commerce Department issued an effective ban on TikTok that was supposed to take effect on Nov. 12, but the move has been blocked by courts.
The administration is negotiating with ByteDance to sell its U.S. assets to Walmart and Oracle.
Who Checks the Fact Checkers?
Facebook fortifies its justification for the use of fact-checkers by saying they need to be certified by the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN). The organization, founded in 2015, is run by the nonprofit journalism school Poynter Institute.
TikTok lists Poynter and another fact-checking project, MediaWise, as partners.
Poynter marketing director Tina Dyakon declined to say how much the organization is paid by ByteDance.
“We do not disclose details of business contracts,” she told The Epoch Times via email. “Poynter partnered with TikTok this year for fact-checking and media-literacy work.”
She said Poynter maintains editorial independence and follows its ethics policy.
In 2019, IFCN was almost entirely funded by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar—a major Democratic donor—as well as Google and progressive billionaire George Soros. Facebook also is listed as one of the previous donors.
Who gets certified is decided by the IFCN’s seven-member advisory board made up of representatives of fact-checking organizations. Only two seem to have any experience covering U.S. political news. One is Glenn Kessler, former foreign policy reporter and now the head of the fact-checking feature at The Washington Post. Kessler and his team earlier this year published a book called “Donald Trump and His Assault on Truth.”
The other is Angie Drobnic Holan, editor-in-chief at PolitiFact, which is owned by Poynter.
IFCN Director Baybars Orsek previously told The Epoch Times that board members recuse themselves from voting and deliberations on certifications for organizations they hold major positions in.

Trip to the Singapore Chinese Cultural Center
-
2 weeks ago, the even-numbers of the class ventured to the Singapore Chinese Cultural Center (SCCC) and gained first-hand insights into venue management from Venue Manager Anthony Goh himself. This learning journey was a good complement to the readings on venue management as we were able to better understand not just how a cultural venue such as SCCC fulfils the organisation’s mission and vision, but also supports local culture and the local arts scene as well.
One: Understanding SCCC’s Mission and Vision.
The Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre collaborates with arts and cultural groups and community partners to promote and develop local Chinese culture. Through engaging and accessible content, we hope to nurture greater appreciation of our multi-cultural identity and a stronger sense of belonging.
Vision: A vibrant Singapore Chinese culture, rooted in a cohesive, multi-racial society
Mission: Nurture Singapore Chinese culture and enhance social harmony
(Taken from the SCCC website)
Here, the SCCC makes it clear what their existence is for: promoting, maintaining, and preserving Chinese culture, while nurturing a greater appreciation of our multi-cultural identity. And all these are done primarily through the Arts.
SCCC in particular supports the creation of the Arts by allowing artists and cultural groups to use its spaces to create and present their work. The availability of a wide range of rehearsal, performance, and exhibition spaces enables cultural programs or events to be developed and presented to the public— thus promoting the vibrancy of Chinese culture. I was quite unconvinced that just a venue could be such a valuable resource to performers and cultural groups. However, Anthony mentioned something that was quite profound, and I loosely quote, “Chinese Performing Arts and Visual Arts groups see us as a unifying figure since we allow things to happen.” This must mean that the SCCC has genuinely offered them a platform that acts like a springboard of sorts— a place where they can develop their craft until they are ready to take off and show off their talents to audiences.
And what reinforced this statement was what we saw when we were given the opportunity to peek into Drum Feng’s rehearsal space. Drum Feng is one of the three Art Tenants that SCCC houses, the other two being Nam Hwa Opera and The Teng Company. In return for an affordable rental rate for their rehearsal space, such art groups need to develop “workshops, performances and programmes for the public to enjoy”.
While we awkwardly disrupted their lunch and quickly scanned the room, we saw various posters of their past performances adorned on the walls, each which was lined with different percussion instruments. It felt like a small home for the Drum Feng ensemble, where their members could return to after a hard day’s work and “maintain their sanity” while drumming, as one of the co-founders put it. The way that Drum Feng made a home out of the space concretized how such spaces are necessary for groups to operate consistently. I don't want to say that a rehearsal space gives legitimacy to an organization. However, there seems to be much value in having a designated place for work to be done in, and for likeminded people to gather in. Therefore, there is no doubt that merely as a venue itself, SCCC is doing much to support the existence of traditional Chinese culture and art.
Two: What else do they offer?
But on top of housing Chinese performing arts artists, SCCC does many other things to support its mission and vision.
On the venue management end, the wide variety of spaces available for rent at SCCC means their spaces are used for a multitude of purposes, ranging from theatre performances, to piano recitals, gallery space, corporate events or even weddings. And Anthony even made a joke that surprisingly, for a place called the Singapore Chinese Cultural Center, many Malay weddings are held there! This just shows how it is possible for cultural spaces to promote its own culture while supporting others, which is especially important in a country like Singapore, where there is a multitude of cultures that exist within a tiny country, and each needs to support each other to maintain a sense of harmony and acceptance. But, moving on...
A large part of the way that SCCC supports its mission and vision is through the events held there, which are organised by SCCC's Programmes Department. Recently, these events/ programmes have been targeted at engaging the youth, as ultimately they are the next generation who will need to pass on Chinese culture to the next generation when the time comes. Past events include Sing•浪 Concert, a celebration of Chinese music, Nam Hwa Blazes, a presentation of Teochew opera, and the Singapore Chinese Music Festival. At no one point in the sharing did Anthony mention the consideration of profitability in terms of deciding which production to put up. Instead, Programming's only consideration is that such events must truly be rooted in the purpose of promoting, maintaining and preserving Chinese culture.
Three: But how do they do it?
Being a charity and IPC, the SCCC is able to support the performing arts in promoting Chinese culture as it gains 90% of its funding from its donors, which consist of many Chinese Clan Associations, Chinese businesses, and philanthropists who genuinely care about preserving the Chinese culture and ensuring that it is passed on to the next generation.
Needing to only generate 10% of its income, SCCC is therefore in a special place where it does not need to consider the profitability of an event before deciding, amongst many, which one to put up. Instead, it can focus on supporting programmes and groups which put up meaningful work that actually contribute to Chinese culture. Besides, with donors who are most concerned about the preservation of Chinese culture, perhaps their biggest concern is whether their money is being put to good use, rather than whether SCCC is able to grow their money for them.
Four: Moving forward...
Its seems as though SCCC is genuinely succeeding at what its set out to do. Anthony shared that many young people actually participated in the cultural events, and there is no shortage of money coming in from the donors. (Although, he may have been only sharing the positive side of things.) From what we heard during the sharing, it seems as though SCCC is doing well, and the only way it can move is forward.
In fact, they had already began sanitising the facilities before we had even visited them. It seems as though they are already preparing for artists (and perhaps audiences?) to return to the spaces that now lay bare, keeping in line with social distancing and the precautionary measures put in place to interact with others safely. And I greatly appreciate this effort, because as much as artists want to return to creating art, they aren't able to collaborate and rehearse without a designated space; so it was very heartwarming to learn that SCCC was ready to support artists' return too.
While I had never heard of the place before (much less visited it), upon visiting the place, I was quite convinced that there was a lot of potential for SCCC to be a hub for performing arts in town. It has a beautiful rooftop garden that could double as an outdoor performance space. It also has many rehearsal spaces, a large multi-purpose hall, and an auditorium that is decked with most of the technical requirements needed to put up a musical, which has many elements to it. I was especially blown away by the auditorium, as the stage was one of the deepest stages I've seen in a long time. I'm sure that as soon as the pandemic is dealt with, many will flock to the stage again.
What perhaps may be a hinderance for SCCC is its slight lack of visibility to the public. Tucked behind the Singapore Conference Hall and a good walk away from Tanjong Pagar MRT, its hidden away from the public eye, and not in a good way. Perhaps, as soon as the nearby MRT line is completed, more people will be able to visit SCCC, appreciate its contribution to the arts, and look to the SCCC for a performance space when they need one.
I can't wait to see what's up next for SCCC.
