A/N: So I had a ghost of an idea, but I'm not sure if I made it clear. Also, I had an idea for a second part to a Wrecker fic, but when I tried to start writing it my brain just went, "Nuh-uh. Cody only."

“My mother will be so disappointed in me,” You say with a sigh as you rest your chin on the palm of your hand.

The person you’re eating lunch with, Emerie, lifts her eerie golden gaze away from her meal. Emerie, like everyone else here, is a demon. She’s a wonderful nurse, though. If you had someone like her when you were doing your residency life would have been smooth sailing.

“Why would she be disappointed in you?” Emerie asks before she takes a bite of her lunch.

“Mother and father wanted me to become a plastic surgeon,” You explain, finally lifting your head from your hand and stabbing your salad. You hadn’t been sure that you’d be able to eat anything grown in Hell. As it happens, not only can you eat it, it is actually healthier than anything you ate back home.

Ironic.

Emerie blinks at you, “You hate plastic surgery.” She points out. “You had a whole thirty-minute rant about vanity surgeries the other day. I recorded you.”

“Why would you do that?”

“Because it amused me,” Emerie replies with a shrug, “Anyway, you’re an amazing doctor. You’re already the head of Infernal Medicine.”

“Yeaaah. You do realize that I made a typo on my resume, right?”

Emerie taps her chin, “Well when it became sink or swim time, you managed to save his majesty. So typo or not, you’re in.”

You flash the other woman a tired smile, “Well, I’ve always been a decent swimmer.”

Emerie grins and finishes her lunch, “You proved it. Now everyone is on your side.” Her grin widens, “Plus, there’s the way Marshal Commander Cody looks at you.”

“Please stop.” You say as your face burns at her comment.

“Okay, okay. But only because I have to get back on the floor.” Emerie grins at you, “I’ll see you later, Doc.”

Emerie leaves and you sigh as you take a sip of your drink, your mind already wandering away from your work and onto Marshal Commander Cody.

Tall and broad, with striking golden eyes, and a quick wit, you and Commander Cody formed a fast friendship while he was escorting you from your apartment on the surface to your new apartment here in Hell.

Even though it had been an easy trip, it still took several days since you both had to travel by foot. And you peppered him with questions about Hell and the rules and everything that you needed to know to thrive here, and he was happy to answer your questions. While peppering you with questions of his own.

When he dropped you off at your new apartment, you thought that you would never see him again.

Only he kept showing up in the same area as you.

Eventually, after a month of him always being there, Cody admitted to you that the King tasked him with making sure that you adjusted to this new life effortlessly, though he also admitted that he would continue sticking around until you got tired of him.

And the truth?

You don’t think you will ever get tired of him.

You look up when someone slides into the seat across from you, and you tilt your head curiously when you see Cody sitting there.

“I wasn’t aware that you were a doctor or a nurse, Commander,” You say dryly.

“I’m not.” He leans back in the seat, his arms crossing across his broad chest, and a small grin playing on his lips, “But see, no one here is actually going to try and stop me either. Privilege of rank, you know.”

“Mm-hmm,” You take a bite of your salad, and then set the fork down, “Was there something you needed?”

You twitch slightly when you feel his tail wrap around your ankle and then slide up your calf, though your only other reaction is a slightly exasperated look.

“Do I need a reason to come and see you, cyar’ika?” Cody asks, his beautiful golden eyes darkening to a deep orange as he leans in slightly.

You don’t look away, and he grins at you. “Well,” You say thoughtfully, after a moment, “I suppose not. But generally people don’t visit the doctors at the hospital.” You point out.

Cody shrugs, “I want to see you, not anyone else. Are you busy?”

“Always.”

His grin widens, “Wanna go for a walk?”

“So long as I don’t actually leave the hospital, then that’s fine.” You agree, “There’s a small garden out back.”

He stands and offers you his hand, which you take with a roll of your eyes. Though, you are glad that he thought ahead and pulled his tail away from your leg before expecting you to walk.

You toss your trash and allow him to tug you out of the cafeteria, down an almost empty hall, and out the side door that leads to the garden.

As soon as the door closes behind you, Cody shifts his hand so that his fingers are threaded with yours, and he squeezes your hand gently before he tugs you away from the building and towards a cluster of trees.

“So, what’s this about anyway?” You ask as you glance up at the deep purple sky for a moment before you focus your attention back on Cody. 

“I need to tell you something.” He seems to look around for a moment, and then he grins and tugs you off the path and between two large trees. For a moment you can’t see anything because of how dark it is, but then you’re in a clearing.

Quickly, Cody releases your hand and lightly places his hands on your shoulders. He walks you backward so that you’re back presses against a tree, and even with him pinning you like this, you’re not the least bit afraid. 

Deeply flustered, maybe. But not afraid.

Cody leans in and presses his forehead against yours, and you can just barely feel the ridges of his horns pressed against your forehead. “Am I making you nervous, cyar’ika?”

“No,” You admit honestly, as your hands slowly drag up his arms to press against his cheeks, “A little curious, maybe. But not afraid. Not of you.”

“Good,” He shifts, just a little bit, and then his lips are pressed against yours. You stiffen, at first, in surprise. But then you relax into the kiss, dropping your arms to wrap around his neck.

He seems to like that, as he presses even tighter against you, his tail coming up to wrap securely around your waist.

Cody breaks the kiss before you do, and he laughs softly when you try to follow him to keep kissing him. You pout at him, unable to help it, “Why’d you stop?”

“Needed to make sure that you’re willing,” Cody teases, “Plus,” He pulls his vibrating comm out of his pocket, “I have to get back to base.”

You slump slightly, “Oh.”

“Tonight, cyare. I’ll pick you up after my shift.” Cody promises, “And then I’ll kiss you until you get tired of it.”

“What if I don’t?”

He grins and kisses you quickly, “Then I guess I’ll just spend the night.” He kisses you one more time, and then finally releases you, “Back to work, Doc. I’ll see you in a couple of hours.”

“I—”

He presses a finger against your lips, “Later, cyare. I promise.”

And, slowly, you nod. “Alright. Later then.”

John swallowed, his voice hoarse. “What complications?”

The doctor hesitated only for a moment. “Her blood pressure is dangerously low. The stress on her body has put the pregnancy at risk. We can stabilize her, but if we focus on saving her, the baby—”

John’s breath hitched. The weight of the words crushed into him.

“There’s no way to save both?” Sherlock’s voice cut through the silence, sharper than glass.

The doctor’s expression darkened. “We’ll do everything we can, but given her condition… you have to decide. Now.”

John closed his eyes, his whole body trembling. He had delivered babies before. He had treated gunshot wounds before. But never had he been forced to weigh one life against another, especially not these lives.

Molly turned away, her fingers pressed against her lips. Lestrade exhaled sharply, rubbing the back of his neck, looking anywhere but at John.

Sherlock’s eyes never left his friend. His mind screamed at him to deduce, to rationalize, to fix this. But for once, there was no clever solution. No brilliant move that would rewrite reality.

Only John’s decision. And the unbearable silence that followed.

The words hung in the air, suffocating, pressing down on John like a vice. You have to decide. Now.

His hands clenched into fists. His mind was a battlefield of logic and emotion, clashing violently, neither side yielding. He had spent years making life-and-death calls under fire, in war zones where hesitation meant another body on the ground. But this? This was different.

This was Mary. This was their child.

His voice cracked as he spoke. “I can’t— I can’t make that choice.”

The doctor’s face remained impassive, though her eyes softened. “Dr. Watson, if we delay any longer, we risk losing them both.”

John felt a hand on his arm—Molly. Her grip was small but steady, her brown eyes brimming with quiet urgency. “John, if we save Mary, she��she might never forgive herself if the baby doesn’t make it.”

Lestrade exhaled through his nose, rubbing his face. “And if you save the baby but lose her, mate…” He didn’t finish. He didn’t have to.

John shook his head, a thousand memories of Mary flashing behind his eyes—her sharp wit, her laughter, the way she held his face between her hands when he doubted himself. Then, another image: Mary, cradling their child, smiling through exhaustion, her hand in his.

Sherlock was the only one who hadn’t spoken. He stood apart from the group, his hands steepled beneath his chin, a deep furrow between his brows.

“Sherlock,” John’s voice was raw, pleading. “Tell me what to do.”

Sherlock exhaled sharply through his nose, his eyes locking onto John’s with a rare, unguarded intensity. “If you ask me to calculate the odds, I will. If you want logic, I can give you a dozen reasons for either choice. But that’s not what you want.” He stepped closer, lowering his voice. “What would Mary want?”

John’s breath hitched. He knew the answer.

'Save the baby, John. You know that.'

His hands trembled at his sides. His stomach twisted, nausea clawing at him. He opened his mouth—

Hey, ehm so, what I’m about to share is really personal and might trigger people who have to fight bullying and mental and/or physical illnesses bc mention of suicidal tendencies.

Idk what exactly it was but (on Pinterest I believe) someone was like “Yeah but why are there people hating on James? He’s so funny and cool with his pranks and Snivellus, just get your shit together” no he is not and I won’t get my “shit” together.

For me personally he triggers self destructive feelings and behaviours that kept building up since SECOND grade (until 10th I believe it was… could also be beginning of 11th) because there where so many ✨funny and cool✨ people who picked their “Snivellus” and spoiler alert it was always me. They pulled so many funny comments and pranks one me that almost cost me my life in the end and they were not done until 10th grade ended. They bullied me with the knowledge that I was ill in some way bc I told them I was seriously and most probably dangerously ill but at that time we didn’t exactly know what it was.

They bullied me for my illness and that illness wasn’t just “being weird randomly” that illness was a fucking brain tumor (luckily not cancer, I’m fine since I had surgery) that caused an epilepsy which is one of a kind.

The most common form of epilepsy is cramps, lying on the floor, looking funny with the drool dribbling down the chin and almost biting off their tongues (yes that can happen… my cousin is badly disabled bc a seizure damaged his brain at 3 months old).

I had a form of epilepsy which my doctors said they’ve never seen before though they were working in that business for over 40 years and they did their research when they heard about me. I was kind of the only person ever known in german medical studies in the last at least 40 years with those form of seizures. And because they were so unique they fucking sent me to a psychiatry because the doctor I’ve been to MULTIPLE TIMES before always said “Nah you’re just mental”. That also was funny enough to pick on me, rubbing in my face that I was a freak and ill and couldn’t do anything about it and I cannot count how many times I’ve prayed to not wake up. Because of people that acted just like James.

I have the right to hate him because in reality I fear him. I fear people like him because getting to have them in my life almost cost me my life and I’m so damn sure they would’ve laughed it off if I one day stopped showing up and my teacher would have stand in front of them crying because he lost the student that reminds him “so much of his sister” (that’s a quote btw) and had to tell them. I’m so afraid of James-like people and therefore I hate him. Not because he is James, James as a character has nothing to do with my past but he was the reason for another’s miserable past if you know what I mean. And every time he is mentioned making fun of Snape or pulling pranks that harm others (mentally or physically) and not only to annoy them bc that actually is funny, I feel those feelings crawling up again and I know it’s not healthy in any way bc he is just a fictional character and that is enough to get me flashbacks but it is what it is so don’t fucking ever try to tell James-dislikers who’ve openly been through similar things that ✨it’s just fun✨. For people in their past it, too, was just fun, for you it might just be fun, but for people who suffered under that fun it’s not. And not a single soul deserves that. There is not one human being who deserves to be picked on/bullied because others want to have some fun.

And no, I don’t mean to hate on James-likers bc yes, in some storys he really is cool and nice and funny and I can understand what you like about him but looking at what is shown to us in books and films he was a fucking prick who loved bullying Severus and making his time at school a part of his life he probably wishes never happened and that triggers my hate-fear if you know what I mean. I’m not trying to say your just like him, making others wanna end them or something, I’m just saying that there often is a sirius reason to dislike a character other than wanting to be different and cool or whatsoever. Sometimes you try to make someone like James with saying things that actually are triggering like “Hahaha it’s fun” Doesn’t mean you can’t try but be careful and always be respectful with trauma which really can be triggered by just one sentence or character.

I know it’s difficult and I do know there are almost no people who communicate/share their trauma just like I did but sometimes people dare doing this bc on social media they can be anonymous just like me. If my former class mates would read this they had no clue it was me. If my brother read this he had no clue it was me, you get my point? But others don’t have that anonymity bc they already published their name/face whatsoever and if anyone they know would see this they would really be fucked. At some point you probably will trigger someone but that inevitably and that’s okay because you can’t see what they’ve been through and you didn’t do it in purpose.
