"UNESCO World Heritage Committee Names Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks to Prestigious List" (19 September 2023):
The UNESCO World Heritage Committee on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 named the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks, a group of eight ancient earthwork sites in southern Ohio, to its World Heritage List. The decision by the World Heritage Committee was made by consensus at its 45th session in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The monumental earthworks were built 2,000 years ago by Native American communities. Five of the earthwork sites are managed by the National Park Service and three are managed by the Ohio History Connection.
The destination was applauded by U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland (Laguna Pueblo), whose department oversees the National Park Service.
“Today’s designation by UNESCO is a tremendous opportunity and recognition of the contributions of America’s Indigenous Peoples,” Haaland said in a press release. “World Heritage designation is an opportunity for the United States to share the whole story of America and the remarkable diversity of our cultural heritage as well as the beauty of our land. The Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks are unique creations of America’s indigenous people and a remarkable survival of our ancient history.”
The sites that comprise Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks were built between 1,500 and 2,200 years ago by people now referred to as the Hopewell Culture. The earthworks, built on an enormous scale and using a standard unit of measure, form precise squares, circles, and octagons as well as a hilltop sculpted to enclose a vast plaza. The geometric forms are consistently deployed across great distances and encode alignments with both the sun’s cycles and the far more complex patterns of the moon. Artifacts, which are among the most outstanding art objects produced in pre-Columbian North America, show that those who built the earthworks interacted with people as far away as the Yellowstone basin and Florida. These are among the largest earthworks in the world that are not fortifications or defensive structures.
The properties comprising the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks:
Hopewell Culture National Historical Park in Chillicothe, including the Mound City Group, Hopewell Mound Group, Seip Earthworks, High Bank Earthworks and Hopeton Earthworks
The Ohio History Connection’s Octagon Earthworks and Great Circle Earthworks in Newark and Fort Ancient Earthworks in Oregonia
During a recent vote, the World Heritage Committee members agreed that these earthworks deserve to be recognized alongside such places as Stonehenge in England and the Nazca Lines in Peru, as well as other iconic places in the United States, including Independence Hall and the Grand Canyon. The National Park Service manages all or part of 19 of the 25 World Heritage Sites in the United States. It is also the principal U.S. government agency responsible for implementing the World Heritage Convention in cooperation with the Department of State.
The inclusion of a site in the World Heritage List does not affect U.S. sovereignty or management of the sites, which remain subject only to U.S., state and local laws. Detailed information on the World Heritage Program and the process for the selection of U.S. sites can be found at the National Park Service’s website.

I recently wrote a #LetterToMySenator over why I encourage and support the Equality Act. It was passed by the House of Representatives on the seventeenth of May, and is now on its way to the Senate. In summary, “this bill prohibits discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity in areas including public accommodations and facilities, education, federal funding, employment, housing, credit, and the jury system.” While so much progress has been made towards the benefit of the LGBTQ community, there are still many people that don’t feel safe in their own homes/communities, and that’s why this bill is SO IMPORTANT. It being passed could help to change the lives of so many Americans, and set an example for other countries to (hopefully) follow. As you may or may not know, I strongly believe in the importance of voicing your opinion in politics. YOU have the power to determine YOUR future. If my generation and I don’t pay attention to what’s going on in our government now, we’re going to make the same mistakes, leading to lesser progress. Just while writing this letter, I’ve learned so much more about what’s going on around the globe. I highly encourage you to do the same, and speak up for what you believe in. Express and voice your opinion, because YOU can change the world. 🌎 🌈 Here’s my letter:
Dear Bob Peterson,
Hello! My name is Megan Herrnstein, and I’m a rising high school sophomore from Chillicothe. I feel that it is very important for not only me, but teens and young adults around my age to be involved, aware of, and able to express our opinions on modern/global politics. Those my age are going to make up the next generation of doctors, lawyers, politicians, business (wo)men, etc., and if we are uneducated in what is going on in our country now, we’re going to end up making the same mistakes that are being made now, leading to lesser progress. By writing to you today, I feel that I’m doing my duty to help build a better tomorrow for everyone.
As you know, an important and necessary vote is arising: the Equality Act. It was first introduced to the House in March of this year, and then later passed on the seventeenth of May. This bill, in summary, prohibits the discrimination of someone based on their sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity in (but not limited to) public places, education, federal funding, and employment. It’s important that this Act is voted for because it will help to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ citizens in America, as well as influence other countries to do the same.
Here’s a little bit of history: in 1950, the Mattachine Society was formed by an activist named Harry Hay. It’s one of the first groups of its kind in the US, focusing on the support and social acceptance of homosexuals. Later, on January 14th, 1975, “the first federal gay rights bill is introduced to address discrimination based on sexual orientation” (CNN). Fun fact: the first rainbow flag was stitched together three years later, in 1978. Throughout the 20th century, there were many things done to support and protect members of the LGBTQ community, but many negative actions took place as well. Same-sex marriage was banned in many states, shootings and acts of violence occurred, and discrimination in social and political positions against gay and transgender citizens were present. With this Equality Act voted and passed into place, we can allow for a brighter future for not just the LGBTQ community, but everyone.
As a quote from the Declaration of Independence, written by the founding fathers of our beautiful country, states: “all men are created equal.” Is this really true if important and valuable members of our society are being mistreated and discriminated? Imagine being unable to get proper healthcare, education, financial support, and so many other daily normalities, just because of who you love. If all men are created equal, then why, as of January 22nd, did the Supreme Court allow President Trump’s transgender military ban to go into effect? To me, it doesn’t make sense as to why all of this is a problem in the first place. If we just allowed American people their right to love, wouldn’t it save a ton of time and effort. // Trust me when I say that I’ve read the arguments against freedom of the LGBTQ community. I’m aware that it is against the religion of some Ohio citizens, but why should we have a say in someone else’s life and decisions? Shouldn’t we love everybody? Queer members of society are just as brilliant and able to contribute to society if employers would just let them. By making places of employment, education, worship, recreation and more a safe and accepting place to these members of society, queer citizens will feel that they are able to grow, flourish, and be themselves in their neighborhoods and cities. // Despite all of the recent recognition and acceptance of LGBTQ people in society, I still have friends that don’t feel the ability to be themselves around other classmates, peers, and even friends. Granted, it’s better than past situations with homosexual and transgender discrimination, there’s still a present problem. Resentment is still present through the fact that certain students are treated unfairly by teachers and others, which isn’t good for the developing mind. If we pass this act, students will be closer to being treated like others. Today’s celebrities, influencers, and leaders are doing a great deal towards making LGBTQ adults and youth feel accepted. Voting for the Equality Act can change the lives of so many. // Your vote would make queer members of society feel safer in their own homes and communities, and I feel like that’s what this is all about. Shawn Copeland, the Ohio director of the Human Rights Campaign, stated that “about 1.8 million ‘equality voters,’ including 400,000 LGBTQ citizens, plus their family members, friends, and other allies” have been identified in Ohio. By voting towards this act, you will be helping to support millions of queer and allied citizens in the United States, as well as their future. // I’d like to thank you for your time and consideration, as well as voice my respect towards you and your position. I may just be a teenager from a small town, but I’d like to make a difference and help to determine the future for me and my peers. I highly encourage you to use your voice and influence to make a difference, too. By voting for the Equality Act, you’ll brighten the future for, and help, so many. This bill can and will change lives in a positive way, and I truly hope that you consider all of this while voting on such an important thing. Thanks again, and happy Pride Month!

New Year 1919: Spanish Flu, Women’s Suffrage, Prohibition & Black Sox Baseball
As a New Year dawned on 1 January 1919, Cincinnati had much to celebrate. The Great War in Europe was over and America’s “doughboys” were gradually returning home. The worst of the Spanish Flu had passed, although more than 2,000 Cincinnatians would ultimately die from influenza or pneumonia. So, 1919 offered a chance to get back to normal. The war years had disrupted Cincinnati life in all sorts of ways.
Tumblr media
Names, for instance. Anti-German sentiment ran so hot that hundreds of Cincinnati residents changed their names to something that sounded less Teutonic. In the year 1918 alone, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer [1 January 1919]:
“As an outgrowth of the feeling against Germany and Austria, the Probate Court did an unusually large business in changing the names of persons who desired to drop foreign appellations, there being 252 cases of this sort, in which the right to change surnames was granted.”
Cincinnati street maps showed a similar change. With America’s entry into the European conflict, Cincinnati City Council set out to erase any street names “that stand for German militarism or are regarded as German propaganda in any way.” As a consequence, Bremen was now Republic Street, Berlin was now Woodrow Street, Hanover was now Yukon Street, Hapsburg became Merrimac Street, and so on.
It’s not likely that many Cincinnatians noticed any such changes on the morning of New Year’s Day. They were probably too hung over. The Enquirer explained:
“Never was there such a New Year’s Eve in Cincinnati. This was generally, almost universally, admitted. A few said it was because of the spreading pall of prohibition and the probabilities that it would go down in history as the last of its kind that Cincinnati celebrated as never before.”
As it turned out, Cincinnati had one more “wet” New Year’s Eve to go before the Eighteenth Amendment kicked in on 17 January 1920. Champagne in Cincinnati cost anywhere from $6 for the domestic brands to $14 for an imported bottle. In all, Queen City hoteliers estimated revelers expended $150,000 while seeing the old year out.
Looking forward, Cincinnati hoped to see more Valentines than the previous year produced. During 1918, only 3,830 Cincinnati couples took out marriage licenses, compared to 4,496 in 1917 and 4,173 in 1916. The drop was explained by so many potential husbands spending the year away in military service. Among the last of those 1918 marriage licenses issued was one to 28-year-old Thomas Shehan, a soldier at Camp Sherman, near Chillicothe, and 19-year-old waitress Mary Liggett.
Romance must have blossomed somewhere in Cincinnati back then. A correspondent to the Cincinnati Post [2 January 1919] observed that Oakley’s Andrew Avenue, a short street of two dozen households, began the new year with 11 children under the age of three.
Cincinnati looked forward to a big construction project in 1919. Here is the outlook, as published in that year’s city directory:
“Among the many improvements planned for early completion and which the war situation deferred, is the Rapid Transit Loop, which is destined to revolutionize, more particularly, the housing of the city's large population. The improvement, to cost probably $12,000,000, is completely planned and, during early 1919 steps are being taken to begin construction. Conservative opinion Is that the Rapid Transit Loop will be one of the greatest of influences in promoting the prosperity, health and wealth of the city, known in its history.”
You don’t recognize the “Rapid transit Loop”? That was the name back then for Cincinnati’s infamous subway. Despite the optimistic 1919 projection, the project was never finished.
World War I was instrumental in helping women achieve economic and political equality. Throughout 1919, efforts to adopt the Nineteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution slowly gained ground and women were finally able to vote in the 1920 presidential election. Throughout the war, women took over male occupations to free men for combat and the big question in 1919 was whether they should give those jobs back to men. The Cincinnati Post [1 January 1919] was skeptical:
“Women who have tasted the sweets of economic independence will not give them up without a struggle. Such is the declaration of one of the spokesmen for woman workers at a labor conference the other day. The woman question threatens to project itself prominently in industrial affairs in this country and abroad.”
The first baby born in Cincinnati in 1919, arriving at 12:01 a.m. on January 1, was Marjorie Louise Hammond, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hammond of 2628 Euclid Avenue. Marjorie would grow up to marry and have six babies of her own, and she would live to the ripe old age of 85.
In the curious manner in which fate rolls the dice in Cincinnati, it should be noted that Marjorie married a man named Howard H. Oester and that one of her children was named Ron. Strange but true, the first baby born in Cincinnati in 1919 grew up to become the mother of Cincinnati Reds star second baseman, Ron Oester, who played his entire major league career with the hometown team. Oester ended the last of his 12 major league seasons after 1990, in which the Reds won the World Series against the Oakland Athletics.
Of course, the Reds won the 1919 World Series as well, downing the Chicago White Sox in a scandal-tainted championship that has become known as the Black Sox Series. But that is a story for another day.

Keefe led the Freedom to their first winning record (53–42). In 2005, former Chillicothe Paints manager Jamie Keefe was signed as the team's new manager. The team was sold in November 2004 to a new ownership group led by Clint Brown, who was not associated with Hildebrant's ownership group. Hildebrant was later the subject of a federal white collar crime investigation and sentenced to prison in October 2005. As part of the lawsuit, it was revealed that Hildebrant had used 204 acres (0.83 km 2) of land that he did not own as collateral for the loans, and that he had given the bank a forged document as proof of ownership. In August, Fifth Third Bank sued team part-owner Chuck Hildebrant for failing to repay multiple loans taken out to finance the stadium construction. Eventually, 33 liens totaling US$4.7 million were filed. In July 2004, shortly after the opening of Champion Window Field, contractors began filing liens against the Freedom, accusing the team of not paying for work done on the stadium. The Freedom ended the season with a 31–65 record, finishing in last place for the second consecutive year. Mike Easler was then hired and finished the season. Pete Rose Jr., took over for one game, but quit after making a decision to continue his playing career. On July 7, after a poor start to the season, manager Tom Browning was fired. The park opened on June 18, with the Freedom losing to the Washington Wild Things 10–6 before a crowd of 4,453 fans. In 2004, the Freedom opened Champion Window Field in Florence. The team averaged fewer than 500 fans per game in attendance. The Freedom finished in last place, setting a then-league record with 61 losses, but featured future major leaguer Chris Jakubauskas, who would go 4-9 (5.11 ERA) for the Freedom. The team was managed by former major leaguer Tom Browning. The Freedom played their 2003 home games at Foundation Field in Hamilton, Ohio, about 30 miles (48 km) north of Cincinnati, while the ownership group was building a new stadium (Champion Window Field) in Florence. The team was sold after the 2002 season and moved to Florence, where it became known as the Freedom. The team won two Frontier League championships in their time in Johnstown, one in 1995 as the Steal and one in 2000 as the Johnnies. The team began in Erie, Pennsylvania, as the Erie Sailors in 1994, before moving to Point Stadium in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, in 1995, where it was first known as the Johnstown Steal then the Johnstown Johnnies beginning in 1998. 1.4.1 2007 Frontier League All-Star Game. The franchise is currently tied with the Rockford RiverHawks (including years as Portsmouth and Springfield), the Schaumburg Boomers, and the River City Rascals (including years as Zanesville) for the most league championships with each franchise winning three. However, these titles came when the team existed as the Erie Sailors (1994), Johnstown Steal (1995), and Johnstown Johnnies (2000). The Y'alls franchise has won three Frontier League championships. Since 2004, they have played their home games at Thomas More Stadium, which is located near Interstates 71 and 75. The Y'alls are a member of the West Division of the Frontier League, an independent baseball league.
#Florence yalls professional#
Where the number of home dates is not known, the average is calculated using half the team's total games. The Florence Y'alls are a professional baseball team based within the Greater Cincinnati region in the city of Florence, Kentucky. Average attendance is based upon the number of actual home dates where known (most leagues from 1992 and later).

Benefits Of Buying Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles in Columbus and Chillicothe, OH
Owning an automobile has become a necessity today. Indeed, few individuals depend on public transport. Sadly, a conventional vehicle may be insufficient to satisfy the needs of everyone. Patients who have lost the use of their legs due to an accident or illness must rely on a mobility aid. Transportation is a problem in such cases, especially when the concerned patient must travel regularly. Requesting friends and family members for a rude every time may prove to be discomfiting. It pays to consider investing in one of the quality wheelchair-accessible vehicles in Columbus and Chillicothe, OH that can turn out to be the perfect solution.
Sure, one needs to check the facts and make an informed decision before sending a massive amount of money on the specialized vehicle. It is interesting to note that a standard vehicle is converted into one that helps one enter while strapped to a wheelchair. Admittedly, there should be enough space inside, with entry and exit being smooth and hassle-free. The sitting capacity is usually altered as per the user's need (s), with the diameters revised depending on the type of wheelchair. Individual needs of the consumer will be considered, making the vehicle perfectly suited to the purpose.
Some of the benefits of the wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) that have completed the mobility challenged individuals to think of such investment include: -
Independence- Waiting for a suitable vehicle to take one to the desired destination can result in a wastage of time. An accessible vehicle may not be available at times. Asking a friend or family member for help is disappointing as well. Owning a WAV makes transportation woes vanish instantly, with the user remaining independent despite the challenges. Having the vehicle handle reduces the physical labor of the caregiver at the same time as the user can do grocery shopping and pick up the required medicines from a distant pharmacy if needed.
Painless- Trying to enter a traditional automobile by shifting from the wheelchair can be risky and painful. The patient is likely to suffer from putting too much pressure on the wrist and shoulders as these body parts are used exclusively in place of the legs. A WAV is constructed specifically for the owner who can move inside without getting up from the wheelchair and squeezing into a small seat. The hassle-free transfer prevents many occupational health issues by ensuring safe practices.
Saves Time & Energy- Very little time is lost during the transfer as the disabled person can do it singlehandedly without relying on another individual. The user can drive the WAV that has been tailor-made for the very individual. The WAV owner is sure to remain energized and raring to go as reaching a destination does not involve any hardship.
People living in spacious homes with enough space to unfold a portable ramp are interested in buying a side entry wheelchair van in Columbus and Bridgeport, OH, as it offers more convenience than rear-entry vehicles.

One and Done: Why People Are Eager for Johnson & Johnson’s Vaccine In North Dakota this week, health officials are sending their first Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccines to pharmacies and urgent care clinics, where people who don’t necessarily have a regular doctor can get the single jab. In Missouri, doses are going to community health centers and rural hospitals. And in North Carolina, health providers are using it to inoculate meatpacking, farm and grocery workers. Since Johnson & Johnson revealed data showing that its vaccine, while highly protective, had a slightly lower efficacy rate than the first shots produced by Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech, health officials have feared the new shot might be viewed by some Americans as the inferior choice. But the early days of its rollout suggest something different: Some people are eager to get it because they want the convenience of a single shot. And public health officials are enthusiastic about how much faster they could get a single shot distributed, particularly in vulnerable communities that might not otherwise have access to a vaccine. “This is a potential breakthrough,” said Dr. Joseph Kanter, the top health official in Louisiana. With its first allotted doses, the state is holding a dozen large Johnson & Johnson vaccination events at civic centers and other public places, modeled after what has worked for flu vaccines. As Johnson & Johnson’s production ramps up over the next few months, Dr. Kanter said the shot would allow his state to slash costs for staffing and operations related to the second doses: “The J & J vaccine brings a lot to the table.” Judged by how well it prevents severe disease, hospitalization and death, the Johnson & Johnson shot is comparable to those made by Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech. And although it has a lower overall efficacy rate in the U.S. — 72 percent, compared with roughly 95 percent for the others — experts say comparing these numbers is not useful because the companies’ trials were conducted in different places at different times. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine also can be kept at normal refrigeration temperatures for three months — ideal for distribution at nonmedical sites such as stadiums and convention centers. “There are circumstances in which it is going to be a really good option or maybe the best option,” said Dr. Matthew Daley, a senior investigator at Kaiser Permanente Colorado’s Institute for Health Research and a member of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s independent vaccine advisory committee. Only four million doses were shipped this week, and the company’s manufacturing lags mean that it will be at least a month before states start receiving significant supplies. Because of that gap, state officials are treating the first wave of doses as a moment to test different ways to deploy them. Patrick Allen, the director of the Oregon Health Authority, said that the first doses in the state went to a variety of settings, “to see if we learn anything from its use.” Those included mass vaccination sites around Portland, adult foster care homes and pharmacies not included in the federal government’s pharmacy program. Health officials will evaluate the success of each of those sites to figure out a plan for the larger shipments. Many state health officials said they were focused on getting the vaccine to people who might be harder to reach for a second dose, such as those who are homeless or on the verge of release from prison. In North Carolina, this category includes the mobile agricultural communities in the state with three- or four-week work seasons. Mandy Cohen, the state’s health secretary, said that large meatpacking plants in the state such as Smithfield and Tyson Foods were interested in the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and had been consulting with her department. And because the vaccine tends to have fewer side effects than the other options, it’s appealing to people who don’t want to risk missing a day of work to recover from chills or fever, she said: “There are a lot of folks who are like, ‘I’m much more interested now that you tell me I only have to get a shot one time instead of two.” “I don’t think it’s an inferior vaccine, and that’s why I’m taking it for myself,” said Ms. Cohen, who was scheduled to get the Johnson & Johnson shot on Friday. At small, independent pharmacies, the vaccine has caused a surge of excitement. Steve Hoffart, the owner of Magnolia Pharmacy in Magnolia, Texas, a small town outside of Houston, has received calls and emails from residents anticipating its arrival this week. He said he hopes to hold a Johnson & Johnson event for teachers on March 13. Schools in the area have struggled to find substitute teachers during the pandemic, and a vaccine that does not require a second visit and more time off was a significant development, he said. Tim and Joyce Staab, who live in Chillicothe, Ohio, a town of about 20,000 an hour’s drive from Columbus, were two of the first Americans to receive the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Both had general vaccine appointments scheduled for later in the week. But then they got notice Wednesday that an independent pharmacy near them had received 100 doses of Johnson & Johnson’s shot. Ms. Staab, 68, is hesitant about needles and liked the one-and-done approach. Mr. Staab, 67, said he thought the vaccine was a better choice for health providers like the pharmacy where he received it. “They don’t have the resources, I don’t think, to be dealing with really hard to store” vaccines, he said. States have been able to customize and tinker with distribution plans in part because the federal government did not issue prescriptive guidelines for where and who the vaccine should go to. This winter, as the Food and Drug Administration’s authorization of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine approached, federal officials involved in vaccine distribution pushed for the shot to be used in a more centralized way, either at large stadiums and mass vaccination sites run by the Federal Emergency Management Agency or only in pharmacies, according to officials familiar with these discussions. But the White House preferred to allow states to tailor their own plans, as they had done for the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines. Although health experts are enthusiastic about the potential public health benefits of the new vaccine, some also fear that the public’s interest will wane once vaccines become less scarce. If given the choice among brands, some people may reject Johnson & Johnson’s, seeing it as an inferior choice. At Black churches across the Mid-Atlantic region this winter, Darrell J. Gaskin, a professor of health policy at Johns Hopkins University and a pastor, and Rupali Limaye, a scientist at the university who studies vaccine hesitancy, have counseled and reassured hundreds of pastors and congregation members of African Methodist Episcopal Zion churches in virtual presentations, emphasizing the Johnson & Johnson vaccine’s safety and prevention of severe Covid-19 and death, including among the Black volunteers in the company’s trial. Dr. Gaskin said it was crucial for officials to emphasize the benefits of the vaccine at the beginning of its distribution, so people “don’t feel like there’s a luxury vaccine and then the non-luxury vaccine.” “We’re facing disparities related to Covid,” Dr. Limaye said. “How do we reduce disparities? We get a product out that’s one dose and that’s stable.” One of Dr. Gaskin’s church’s members, Patricia Cooper, a teacher in Washington, D.C., said that President Donald J. Trump’s efforts to claim credit for a vaccine last year and the label “emergency use authorization” suggested to her that the federal government may have rushed its reviews of vaccines, leaving her jittery about their safety. But she said she was eager to get a vaccine, especially Johnson & Johnson’s. “This one is more appealing to me,” she said. “Who likes to get stuck more than once?” But Mr. Allen, the Oregon health official, warned that using it in more specialized ways could contribute to skepticism about its quality. “If you start getting a little too cute about targeting its use, you maybe feed distrust potentially of, ‘Well, why am I getting that vaccine? And, I’m in this special population and people who aren’t in this special population aren’t getting this vaccine,’” he said. Federal health officials have promised a way to crack down on the Johnson & Johnson vaccine potentially being used in inequitable ways. Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith, the chairwoman of the Biden administration’s new health equity task force, said at a White House news conference this week that distribution of the vaccine “should be even across communities.” “We will be tracking biometrics, such as ZIP code and social vulnerability, to see where vaccines are going,” she said. “And should certain vaccines go consistently to certain communities, we will be able to intervene.” Some state officials believe that pairing the new and old vaccines can help show that they are equally important. Mr. Allen said that Oregon was creating similar distribution plans for Johnson & Johnson and Moderna because both vaccines can be stored in refrigerators for the short term. The state is treating the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine as the one with “special considerations,” with its stricter shipping requirements and large packages of vials more suited to mass vaccination sites, he said. Managing the vaccines from Johnson & Johnson and Moderna in similar ways, he said, would help avoid “equity questions and potential concerns, based on perceived differences between the vaccines, some of which are real and some of which aren’t.” Source link Orbem News #Eager #Johnson #Johnsons #People #Vaccine
