if either of them was ordinary, childe would have chosen somewhere different to set up for lunch; patterned blanket on the grass with a wicker basket on top, on the very edge of the cliff where fontaine truly started and the strip of water that ended sumeru begun. the height of it all made something in his head twist, and it felt like something he had no interest in thinking about today. despite the faint vertigo (vertigo? was it vertigo?) that pulled when he looked over the edge of fontaine’s cliff, a fall from this height would be a mild inconvenience at most for lumine and himself instead of death.

boy, was it worth it.

the view of the port, water, and shore of sumeru made for beautiful scenery. peaceful even. the wind carried the fresh scent of water and flowers, and the heat from the sun made him stretch languidly and flop onto his back. it made it easier to push the dark thoughts from his mind and easier still as lumine came into view, a smile stretching onto his lips,

“lumine, my friend! thank you for coming,” he grinned, sitting up with a soft huff and petting the blanket next to him. “i brought lunch. some of it is from my homeland, and others- well, yoimiya was kind enough to send me some ingredients from inazuma! i won’t pretend i’ve used it as well as a local could, but i did my best.”
