Inspired by @the-ragbros-are-okay, I have decided to post my own version of “songs I associate with the Ragbros, accompanied by brief explanations”! I posted this playlist on bluesky a few months ago encouraged by a friend there who had done something similar (and who doesn’t have tumblr), so now I am going to share it with you guys as well…

One disclaimer before we begin: I don’t care if the original songwriter meant for the song to be romantic, if it sounded platonic to me when I first heard it, then that’s how I’ll interpret it. I guess it’s a family trait… (like my dad singing You Are So Beautiful by Joe Cocker to me ever since I was a toddler)

Welcome to my version of the ~Ragbros sad playlist~

1- "Brother", by Kodaline

This is THE Ragbros song of all time to me, I don’t make the rules. “We've taken different paths, and travelled different roads, I know we'll always end up on the same one when we're old”. It’s a song all about how you’re devoted to your brother and you would die for them. (The music video is heartbreaking, btw)

2- "Who We Are", by Hozier

The second verse is so them to me that it hurts. “You and I burned out our steam chasing someone else's dream" - the two of them chasing their bio fathers' dreams and feeling burnt out in the process. “How can something be so much heavier but so much less than what it seems?” - their fight being both a big deal and a minor thing in the grand scheme of things. “This phantom life sharpens like an image, but it sharpens like a knife” - the phantom life being their shared past and everything they no longer have.

3- "Somewhere Only We Know", by Keane

I see this as a song of reconciliation. The two of them, growing tired and a bit older, feeling like they could reunite someplace they used to love and share as kids to properly have a conversation...

4- "BIRDS OF A FEATHER", by Billie Eilish

To me, this is a song about soulmates, and I'm a firm believer that soulmates do NOT have to be romantic in nature. Your soulmate can be your parent, your sibling, your best friend... "I knew you in another life, you had that same look in your eyes. I love you, don't act so surprised"

5- "Why Does It Always Rain on Me?", by Travis

I mean, this is 100% Kaeya after the fight. The feelings of inescapable despair, connecting this depression state with a non-stop rain (which was also present when he was left in Mond), the guilt ("is it because I lied when I was 17?")…

6- "Hate Me", by Miley Cyrus

Another one from Kaeya’s pov, in this case right after Diluc returns, when he is still a firm believer that his brother hates his guts. He wonders if Diluc will stop hating him once he dies. The entire song is a perfect fit: “one drink and I’m back to that place, the memories won’t fade”; “would it be too hard to say goodbye? I hope that it’s enough to make you cry”

7- "this is me trying", by Taylor Swift

Burnt-out gifted child Diluc feeling the weight of his mistakes after he comes back, not sure if he should have. "I didn't know if you'd care if I came back". Also, in the second verse: "and my words shoot to kill when I'm mad, I have a lot of regrets about that. I was so ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere. Fell behind all my classmates and I ended up here"

8- "Pyro", by Kings of Leon

This song was made for Diluc, even the title is a perfect fit! "Single book of matches gonna burn what's standing in the way" (he feels like he burns and ruins everything in his path, either good or bad). "All the black inside me is slowly seeping from the bone. Everything I cherish is slowly dying or it's gone". I love this song for him so much that I used a line as a title for my most recent fic

9- "Same Mistake", by James Blunt

I’ll let the lyrics of this one speak for themselves: "And maybe someday we will meet, and maybe talk, and not just speak. Don't buy the promises, 'cause there are no promises I keep. And my reflection troubles me (…) I’m not calling for a second chance. I’m screaming at the top of my voice. Give me reason, but don’t give me choice ‘cause I’ll just make the same mistake again”

10- "Everybody's Changing", by Keane

More Keane! I'd say it perhaps fits Diluc once he returns to Mond, this feeling of being an outcast, of not belonging there anymore because everybody (including himself) is different. “Everybody’s changing and I don’t feel the same”

11- "How to Save a Life", by The Fray

On the other hand, thinking about roughly the same moment in their story, here we could have more of Kaeya's pov while watching his once sunshine of a brother come back as a shadow of himself..

12- "Feel it All", by KT Tunstall

First of all, everyone should listen to this womaaaan! Okay, now the song: I used this as inspiration for one of my fics because, to me, it fits Kaeya's feelings while he waited for Diluc to come back from his revenge trip. The second verse fits that situation so well, with Kaeya wondering where Diluc is and having mixed feelings over being at ease in Mond with a cryo Vision

13- "Amsterdam", by Coldplay

A song from my favorite album by my favorite band, here we have Diluc at his lowest while away from Mond: “Come here, oh my star is fading. And I swerve out of control. And I swear I waited and waited. I've got to get out of this hole”. I also used this one as inspiration for a fic in the same series as the last one...

14- "We Hug Now", by Sydney Rose

I found out about this song through a Ragbros edit on TikTok to the last verse from both brothers' perspectives and OUCH... “I have a feeling you got everything you wanted and you're not wasting time stuck here like me. You're just thinkin' it's a small thing that happened, the world ended when it happened to me”. According to Sydney, it was written about friendship breakups, which makes it even more painful

ok lets talk abt kavetham.. i think they're exes. i enjoy them as a duo but not as a romantic pair; they literally fight in every scene they're in so im convinced kaveh had a crush and they tried dating for a week or even just 5 days so not even a week and kaveh got so frustrated that he broke it off but is salty abt it and haitham only agreed bc "why not, if it works it works and if it doesnt it doesnt" he had no expectations whereas kaveh had every expectation but haitham didn't live up to that so now kavehs just constantly annoyed and angry w haitham bc he doesn't know hoe to move on

i dont like zhongchi or neuvithesley very much simply because i dont. see it. its another case of they dont really like each other? and i think its hypocritical of certain fans to go against ships like zhongxiao bc "they're father/son" when. zhongchi is so much more (by their own standards) problematic than zhongxiao.. like stay? in your lane? and neuvithesley feels to me like ppl just want an excuse to have sigewinne as thier child when. sigewinne is more like wrios mom or grandma considering her actual age ejfhehfhd hes the youngest of the three and fanon loves to ignore it! i wont tolerate that :)

i have a Very hot take on kae/luc that both the antis and the pros dont like; they're not brothers but they aren't lovers either.. i also think they're exes

mostly because thats the vibe i got when i first saw thier interactions in game, it felt similar to asra/julian from the arcana and bc i was into the arcana right before getting into genshin asrian was on my mind, i started looking into them as one does and encountered the Discourse; knowing the cn stereotype though and that it is used to hide gay relationships in cn media; i further took that as proof that they're exes (and Both are bitter about it i enjoy the dynamic a lot. and genuinely they cant live w/o each other) im not going to attack ragbros believers tho, neither am i going to attack the shippers i like the content regardless bc both sides can agree that they cant live w/o each other and it torments the both of them

Heizou struggles with depression at times. And it's something he goes to therapy for. He hasn't done anything, but for a while it was pretty bad, especially right after the decree ended.

Cyno and Nari talked it out and Collei was also cool with it so Nari shot his shot and... It took longer than expected for Heizou to notice...

Along with Heizou and Kaeya, Kaveh and Nilou also went with them.

As you've spotted, there isn't a single healer among them

‌At first he wasn't sure about what he should do or how. He never really imagined himself as a father but even if he were inexperienced the ginger was more than willing to try if you were to be by his side.

‌Strikes me as the worrywart type of dad. He wants his kids to have a free childhood instead of being restrained by their responsibilities as ragnvindrs but he still would rather have them where he can see them.

‌Kinda busy with work but still makes time for his family.

‌Anything they want he'll give them but doesn't let them become spoiled cause of it.

‌The kids love Kaeya and he hates it with every fiber of his being(he's actually just jealous).

‌Had a boy and a girl btw.

Kaeya

‌Had a girl and let me tell you... the way he acts with her is the most annoyingly cute thing ever. Ya know how that guy from Fullmetal alchemist acts with his daughter? It's Kaeya.

‌Of course he doesn't want to restrain her. That's against his personal beliefs and values. He just fears someone might take his little girl away from him.

‌Is the type of dad who is very particular about the way his kid dresses. He won't tell them what to wear or anything, he just gives very direct criticism.

‌"Dad what do you think about my outfit?"

‌"This is not your best combination. I told you to slay, didn't i?"

‌He paints her nails and gossips with her about things he heard from Rosaria at Diluc's tavern.

‌Talking about him, Diluc has to babysit his niece sometimes and it's seriously the most hilarious thing ever cause he has no idea how to interact with this kid. But he doesn't have the heart to tell her to quiet down so he ends up becoming the uncle who accidentally spoils her.

Albedo

‌Oh boy this one was a little complicated. Due to being a homunculus he wondered if he was even capable of reproducing in the first place, which ended up in you two becoming parents.

‌His fascination for life made him eager to be responsible for the direct creation and guidance of a new being but you needed to make something very clear to him. That you wouldn't stand for letting him see your kid as a test subject of sorts.

‌You two talked about it, cried, it was angsty and messy. He didn't have the intention of making it seem like he saw his child as a lab rat but he would be lying if he said he didn't get carried away with his overall thought process.

‌Time passed and your child was finally born. A boy who was almost a carbon copy of his father with the exception of his eye colour that resembled yours.

‌You two happened to be blessed with a quiet baby. The only moment he seemed to cry was when he was hungry or needed to change diapers.

‌One thing you two noticed is how your son seemed interested in Albedo's experiments. He loved watching his father work. It was a little worrying for you to leave him there cause what if an explosion happened or something? But you couldn't bring yourself to say no when your adorable son looked at your husband's working self with so much admiration, affection and curiosity.

‌The little one also developed a love for drawing if the crayon all over your walls were any indication. Albedo convinced you to not clean or paint over it, these drawings could turn into precious memories after all.

‌As much as your son and Albedo seemed close, unfortunately, the chief alchemist couldn't spend as much time as he would like with his son so every little moment was cherished.

‌And on rare opportunities when he had a free schedule you would plan family days and do all kinds of things like picnics, taking walks around mondstadt, having lunch at good hunter or just cuddling under the blankets when the cold seeped in.

Bennett

‌Needless to say he cried an entire river when you told him you wanted kids. He could never have imagine himself as a father or in a relationship with anyone for that matter.

‌Absolutely worried about his bad luck, what if it hurts your child? Benny needed a lot of reassuring from you tbh.

‌In the end he just decided he would try his hardest to protect you two if his bad luck ever threatened your lives.

‌You two had a little girl and this man...he was determined to be the best father in the world.

‌Very very affectionate, kisses and hugs were a must for him. He really wanted his daughter to feel loved and to not ever experience loneliness like he did.

‌Benny is a very fun dad! takes your child to little adventures he planned(they're all very safe of course) and would encourage her imagination. Countless times they would get home covered in either mud or dirt cause they apparently "had to save a princess from hillichurls." You were happy as long as they were having fun.

‌Your daughter sees him as a hero and that's his biggest pride. Seeing her brag to her friends about how cool her dad is just makes your hearts swell with love.

Venti

‌Oh wow? Getting him to settle down at all were a hugeass feat but a kid??? Jesus Christ he really is down BAD.

‌Your son was an absolute sweetheart most of the time(in front of you at the very least) however if his father were involved things would take a turn for the worse cause you see.... they're both menaces to society.

‌He was very mischievous and a prankster to boot. The worst part was how his father enabled his mischief and sometimes even joined! No one is safe.

‌They are literally this: ":3c" , ">:3c".

‌Jokes apart people always get shocked when they learn Venti has a son since they look like brothers instead.

‌The fact his father is an archon kinda just went straight through his head. This kid absolutely does not care, his dad is his dad and that's all there is to it. Venti almost cried ngl.

‌Ok ok, listen to me. Venti's archon form has wings, Right? Only fair your kid inherits those as well. Your husband taught him how to hide them away when needed but it's the most adorable thing to watch both of them flying and playing around.

‌Piggyback rides are a must btw. Venti loves taking his adorable son to walks and sometimes even sings lullabies which never fail to make him sleepy. It's a very cute sight.

‌Truly, your little angel is the apple of your eye.

Razor

‌Oh boy this one is a bit tricky, cause you see....Razor doesn't know much about this kind of thing.

‌He has seen the birth of some of his packmates but he had no idea how it happened at all. Yet, here you two were. About to become parents.

‌You had to tell him the little you knew and asked Lisa to help and educate him on the subject. He was pretty determined to learn so he could properly protect you and his future "pups".

‌You had twins, two boys. And they turned out to be absolute fucking menaces.

‌They're so energetic no one other than themselves and sometimes Razor can keep up with them.

‌Your family of 4 decided to live near wolvendom. You had a cottage built in a safe area, all of this for your husband's comfort.

‌The silver haired man got better at talking and interacting with people as time passed but he still wanted to avoid it if he could, so you two talked about it and decided to raise your children in a balance between human society and nature.

‌Razor's way of bonding and playing with them is either roughhousing or taking them to hunt. He isn't very good when it comes to advice about complicated matters but he does tries his best.

‌He usually prefers to use physical touch as a reassuring method for the twins cause for him it's way easier than talking.

Zhongli

‌Alright, this is pretty obvious but he's the perfect dad. This man has so much knowledge and has lived through so much shit that it's actually surprising he doesn't have an "heir" yet.

‌You two were blessed with a little girl who is literally, his princess.

‌Seriously she's so young but so polite already!!!! very kind and sometimes a little too mature for her age but you aren't that surprised considering who her father is.

‌Zhongli likes doing her hair, helping her pick her clothes and feels more than delighted in having her on his arms as often as possible.

‌Don't @ me on this but i'm a monsterfucker/kemono mimi enthusiast and i was bound to include my own fucking biases into this. He's a dragon and so is your baby.

‌Usually he retains his human form due to it being way more convenient but Zhongli does enjoy letting out his more draconic features when you are in the comfort of your house away from possible prying eyes and your daughter is the same.

‌He's a very very very awkward dad. Don't even get me started on it, alright?

‌When it comes to comforting it's kinda gonna be up to you cause oh my god. Chongyun is as socially awkward as someone can get and your kid is very very shy. So you usually hug him or do some tricks with your vision so he can relax and stop overthinking.

Xingqiu

‌Doesn't have much time to spend with his family, unfortunately. Even if he has an older brother Xingqiu agreed to be responsible for a good amount of the feiyun commerce's guild job.

‌But for some reason, only god knows how, he always seem to be waiting for his little boy every night, holding a new book each time. An affectionate look in his eyes and ready to tell another bedtime story today too.

‌Xingqiu also encourages his son's creativity and they have writing competitions or sometimes even create a story together. You happen to be the judge of the contents btw, it hurts to choose everytime.

‌Also this child is an absolute little shit and he bullies his friends just as much as his father used to in his younger days. Even his sly smirk is identical, you can't with this duo, you just can't.

Inazuma

Arataki Itto

‌Oh my god. What a mess, istg. Listen, Itto loves his children to death and if anything happens to them he goes absolutely ballistic.

‌He brags about how cute they are to everyone.

‌Loves hugging, cuddling or anything physical touch related. He WILL shower them with love and affection and there's nothing they can do about it.

‌Imma be honest. You knew what you were getting into when you married this man.

‌Nowadays your husband has a lot more opportunities to be with your family since he decided it was better to retreat from being a general in order to be able to raise his children properly.

‌The ex-general can be a little stern and use a little bit of an "intimidating" tone to reprimand them if they do something wrong but that's pretty rare. Usually Gorou can be seen brushing their tails, cuddling them to sleep, nuzzling their cheeks or giving them scratches behind the ears as they sleep on his lap.

Kaedehara Kazuha.

‌I think out of everyone he might be the most understandable and calm father ever. Does not raise his voice and always prefer to ask them about their feelings so he can properly understand them.

‌Kazuha didn't imagine he would settle down with anyone but here he is, teaching his daughter how to play the leaf flute.

‌Flowers still come out of his mouth when he speaks and you particularly think it's the most adorable thing ever, he's just so good with his words ♥(you are not biased at all, no sir). But he decided to tone it down a bit near your baby girl so she wouldn't be confused.

‌The samurai uses his anemo vision to play with her sometimes as well. Like engulfing her in a safer version of his chihayaburu and allowing her to "fly" even for a little.

‌Makes a promise to himself to always guide her and to make his family's happiness his top priority.

Kamisato Ayato

‌Another dad who cannot be with his child as much as he wish he did!

‌But my Lord he's trying, he tries so so hard to come back home as soon as possible but that's not always an option so he has to resort to letters or gifts.

‌It really does upsets him that he can't be the present father he wishes he was. Ayato doesn't want his son to feel the loneliness he didn't really allow himself to feel at the time due to having to take over the Kamisato clan head position.

‌When the commissioner IS able to return home he returns eager to see you, the love of his life and his baby boy waiting for him at the door.

‌One of the things Ayato loves doing is kissing your forehead. He thinks it's an adorable way to express his love for you and he happens to do that to your kid as well.

‌When they play shogi he always lets his son win, he absolutely cannot see his sad face, it breaks his heart.

I have this headcanon where you’re his betrothed.

Geo daddy who lives rent free in my head wants to experience a mortal life, and he has to go through a trial like other mortal beings where he will experience mortal love and go through the agony and suffering of losing a loved one 

This is where you come into the picture

You belong to an ancient sect called Emei who are tasked with protecting and taking care of you, dwelling in Mt Aozhang

It went from simple chats whilst standing rather far apart, then eventually you were comfortable enough to sit quite closely together and have wine/tea, and finally, you went on walks whilst holding hands

Every time he leaves, you miss him very much

One day when he’s visiting, you think he feels the same because he gazes at you with such longing and you spend more time together than usual

If Diluc liked someone, he’s calm and quiet about it 

No-one would even know he had a S/O or someone in mind

“We kissed.” He says bluntly.

Childe

You are an agent of Fatui and you’re sent to look after him on a regular basis which is pretty annoying because that means you’re basically his babysitter

And he’s always up to no good and he likes to purposely wind you up and you usually get into trouble for it but he actually really likes you so you have this kind of love/hate relationship with him

He looks easy-going on the outside but deep inside he’s thirsty for blood and lives for the thrill of da kill, and on this occasion you’re both going to train together and this will totally give you an opportunity to clap his cheeks but he gets super hyped from battle so you will have your first kiss in the most unlikely places

Essentially when you’re sparring together, Childe is fighting as if he wanna kill you and you’re doing your best to either defend or retaliate but oh my Archon, he’s a Harbinger for a reason - and the kiss happens very spontaneously but most likely when he’s swept you off your feet and you’re seeing things upside down but if you’re going down, you’re gonna bring him with you and you manage to hook your leg around his ankle and he goes tumbling

You land on your back with a loud, painful thud 

When you open your eyes, he’s lying on top of you

You’re not used to him being so close and on top of you as well, and it appears neither is he

In fact, he looks a little shocked for a brief moment (an expression you’ve never seen before) but he’s quick to react and he’s smirking. 

Panting heavily, he goes, “Hah...hah...what’s with that look on your face?”

You’re so stunned by this close proximity, you can’t even utter a single syllable and he’s not fooling anyone either with his act

And as you both continue to stare at each other, his grin slowly vanishes and suddenly he’s looking at you with half-lidded eyes before he slides his gaze to your mouth.

Before you can speak, he leans down and kisses you roughly

As quickly as he had kissed you, he is hasty to retreat and you’re left gawking. 

He gets up to stand, his hydro blades vanishing upon his will. He throws a quick glance at you from over his shoulder and tells you practise is over.

As he leaves, he licks his lips and traces his thumb over his bottom lip

Also, YES. They’d have the worst habits, and it would eventually become more visible the more comfortable it becomes, but Keqing just gives up on trying to change anything because it’s literally hopeless.

I also headcanon that they have different ways to show appreciation for Keqing. E.g. Childe sometimes uses one of his cringy ass Russian nicknames and when she looks up the meaning, she turns from the most straight-faced woman known to man to a highkey affection-starved queen self-destructing in her room.

Diluc leaves a note on her desk that are simple “Sleep early today. Tomorrow is your day-off.” or “Don’t over work yourself.” messages. He’s so self-conscious about it because like, what if Kaeya catches him up at night contemplating whatever reaction he’ll get. Ends up feeling so accomplished whenever his messages bring a smile to her face.

Kaeya, I feel, would be more open in a sense? Keqing is the last person he thinks he’s be able to deceive, and so he chooses not to. He’s probably one who enjoys deep conversations about literally anything be it mosaic artwork or changes in between modern and archaic politics. A good listener and a fine conversation partner, I feel they’d certainly have interesting conversations.

Zhongli lowkey seizing every opportunity to bring up Rex Lapis and his sense of humor is lowkey degrading Morax for his past mistakes. He’s like “Oh, I thought you hated him. I hate him too” and proceeds to laugh at the fact that the oh-so legendary Geo archon bore a hole in his hoodie for his hair. FOR HIS HAIRS. Keqing is losing her sanity trying not to expose herself as a closeted fan.

I want to see Childe talk about his feelings and meet his siblings, I want to hear more about Guizhong, I want to hear about the crippling loneliness and depression that Bennett and Barbara have (NO I WILL NOT SHUT UP ABOUT THIS PART. WHY THE FUCK IS GENSHIN NOT TALKING ABOUT THIS? I KNOW ITS FUN AND GAMES BUT LET ME CARE ABOUT THEM. 1.4 has these hangout events and istg, bennett and barabara have one and if we don’t talk about our feelings I’m going to cry). 

oml their bad habits, Zhongli and his extensive collection of plants because that’s the most social interaction he gets (yes, zhongli is a planter. no i do not take criticism tyvm) and it starts off with a couple plants. Not too bad. Then the next day Keqing walks and it looks like their entire home turned into a forest. But Zhongli loves his plant children and Keqing is slowly losing her mind and starts referring to the plants with the nicknames Zhongli gave them. 

This. This is cute. These appreciation ideas. I fully approve and we need to bring them back. I don’t know anything about Russian but I have a friend that does. But I don’t know how to casually say “hey, can you give me Russian nicknames of endearment. It’s for research.”. Keqing radiates professional in the front, social anxiety in the back. I just love that they added the detail that she’s secretly a Rex Lapis fan but pretends that she hates him. I know there is art of Zhongli lowkey being creeped out or vv smug when he find’s Keqings stash but idk, imagining him being a proud dad and giving headpats even though Keqing is an adult. 

Okay. Let me level with you. Sticky notes of reassuring phrases are the best and why the fuck aren’t people doing it more. I’ve been reading “my mom left a note on the table” or “my partner puts sticky notes in my textbooks as a pick me up” for CENTURIES but am I seeing it in real life? Fuck no. Please, if someone does this for you. Keep them, never let them go. I can imagine Diluc writing these messages, feeling confident when he writes them and ready to be a supportive person. The next day he’s looking at these notes and thinking “what the fuck did I just write, this is garbage” (totally not how I feel about my writing). Then he proceeds to throw them in some cabinet but since Kaeya doesn’t know the first thing about personal boundaries he goes snooping around in Diluc’s room, discovers the notes, and he ends up taking them and putting them on Keqing’s things. It makes her happy so Diluc is going to ignore the very pressing issue with whether or not he should commit manslaughter. 

You know, that’s very valid. That’s how I feel about Kaeya’s relationship with Lisa or Albedo. People that don’t get riled up or annoyed by his antics the same way Amber is. I feel like if you’re looking for small talk, he’s not a bad choice, but if you want those deep 3am conversations he’s definitely the person to go to. Zhongli isn’t a bad choice either but Zhongli tends to go into historical and philosophical moments (which isn’t bad) but you want to have someone relate to you or it feels like an actual conversation and not a history lesson then he’s actually perfect. Especially more controversial topics, I feel like Kaeya would probably have very different opinions from the norm. 

YES. YES. YES I’m replying to these as I read them but YES. Honestly, I get it. Zhongli is a super polite and respectable person. But. But. Have you seen how he clowned on Childe?? That entire interaction?? He didn’t even look the slightest big apologetic for almost destroying Liyue and using the man who was going to kill him to pay for his funeral. What a power move?? And you’re telling me you don’t see him being a smug prick. I love Zhongli’s story quest where everyone is saying “oh the first mora was treasured or it holds mythical powers” and Zhongli is looking at them as if they’re idiots.
