Little momma hen and her 5 chicks have been staying in a tote in the house the past couple weeks after her and another momma got into a fight over the chicks. One of hers was injured so moved the whole family to a tote. Momma hen has not been happy about the new living arrangement. So today with the weather warm and sunny I returned them to the yard. The 6 week old bitties have been kicked out of the brooder and into the juvenile coop for another 6-8 weeks. This coop is inside the run so the older chickens can see them but cannot touch them. Once they get to be of similar size, we'll slowly introduce them to the established flock and hopefully avoid too many scuffles. Our first incubator adventure! I was gifted 8 Maran eggs (some are from Copper Maran hens, some are from Cuckoo Maran hens, all from a Cuckoo Maran rooster) and hubby wanted me to add some from our ISA Browns and from our Barred Rocks (our rooster is a Barred Rock) as well. Hopefully I get a good hatch rate, especially on the Marans!
