Even a little tree can present a big challenge when you are five months old and still working on your climbing skills. Panda cubs naturally climb trees. It is safer for them to be off the ground and away from predators when they are small. They also enjoy playing by repeatedly climbing trees and falling out of them. Although on this occasion the cub was in search of a comfortable place to nap. Adult pandas conserve their energy as much as possible. Theirs is a low energy diet and they need to eat 12-38kg of bamboo every day to obtain sufficient nutrition. Which means eating takes up a lot of time and it is best accomplished on the ground. Thanks to a highly successful Chinese breeding program, the once "endangered" giant panda is now listed as "vulnerable". This video was taken at the Chengdu Panda Base, Sichuan province.
