Cocktail Time! Akio’s After School Special

This sure isn’t the beginning of/testing phase of what will probably become like, an entire fleet of Utena-themed cocktails. Here’s a boozy play on the Mexican drink horchata, a delicious creamy concoction that is endlessly variable, and can be made with soy/rice/almond or whatever else milk for a dairy free version that will nevertheless be creamy and sweet. A good alternative to egg nog, and if you’re careful, or omit the egg whites, you can even serve it warm! God, I need some coupe glasses. (PS. Yes. The joke is that it looks like...well.)

Akio’s After School Special

- 1 c uncooked white rice  - 4 c water - 5 pods black cardamom - 4 cloves - 2 allspice berries - 3/4 a star anise  In a blender or food processor, pulse the spices first, until well broken up. Then add the water and rice and blend until the rice is well broken up. Leave out overnight, giving it a couple pulses when you walk by. Strain this through a fine sieve or cheesecloth, depending on how averse you are to sediment gathering at the bottom. If you’re super against that, only pulse the rice dry a few times and then do not blend further, but mix up by hand frequently. Return the strained mixture to a rinsed out blender or food processor and add:

- 1 1/2 c milk  - 1 c sugar - 1/3 c egg white (optional) - 1 1/2 c vodka/white rum/combination of the two - vanilla to taste (I used about 1 tbsp) - rose water/flavoring to taste (I had concentrated rose flavoring and used 1/2 tsp, rose water would probably fall more in the 1 tbsp category) - liquid smoke to taste (a couple dashes, be careful) Blend the hell out of this. Serve chilled. Will make a lot. Plenty for all the sweet tooth having visitors to your office that you shouldn’t be giving alcohol to, you piece of shit.
