* * * *
Good morning. This is what fascism looks like.
Lucian K. Truscott IV
Oct 26, 2024
It crept in overnight, while we were sleeping. Fascism showed its face not with jackboots and concentration camps…not yet, anyway…but rather as just another day in Capitalist America. Two major media companies, the Washington Post and the LA Times, made decisions to capitulate to the man they fear will be elected president before a single vote has been counted. They decided not to run editorials endorsing their preferred candidate for president, Kamala Harris, because the owners of the companies, Jeff Bezos and Patrick Soon-Shiong, are afraid if they anger Donald Trump, he will hit them where it hurts: In their pocketbooks.
Bezos sees himself as particularly vulnerable to the wrath of Donald Trump. Before he left office in 2021, Trump appointed a puppet to run the United States Postal Service (USPS): Louis DeJoy, a long-time Republican fund-raiser and major Trump contributor who was appointed as one of three deputy finance chairmen of the Republican National Committee shortly after Trump took office in 2017. The USPS prioritizes package delivery for Amazon and sets the price it pays for the service. Trump has threatened Bezos with jacking up his Amazon delivery prices before, in 2018. The Postmaster General was then Megan Brennan, appointed during the Obama administration, who resisted Trump’s demand to raise delivery prices, but such resistance is unlikely to happen if Trump is elected and DeJoy is there to carry out his wishes.
This is the way it happens. An autocrat like Donald Trump, with his history of impulsive decisions and threats against perceived enemies, has two billionaires cowering in fear, and he didn’t even have to pick up the phone.
Fascism is not an all-at-once transformation. We’ve already had our Brownshirt day, on Jan. 6, 2021, when Trump’s MAGA army stormed the Capitol waving Confederate and Nazi flags and assaulting police officers and attempting to hunt down and kill Nancy Pelosi and Mike Pence, all of it, we now know, with Trump cheering them on from the White House. Fascism uses symbols – MAGA this time, Swastika last time – to rally followers, and then it feeds them fear and lies and the demonization of minorities and others perceived as not like us.
I don’t even know that you can name the period of fascism we’re in right now. Giving it a name doesn’t matter. What matters is that it is happening right in front of our eyes, and little if nothing is being done about it, other than fascism finally being called out by political leaders such as Kamala Harris and other Democrats, and some news organizations have at last crossed the Rubicon of using the “F” word of fascism and the “H” word of Hitler in the same sentences with Donald Trump.
What can we do? We can all vote for Kamala Harris and whatever Democrat is running for whatever office in your district and state.
Journalists everywhere, but particularly at the Washington Post and LA Times, have a crucial role to play right now. It is journalism about Donald Trump’s crimes and political extremism that has revealed him as not just a totalitarian politician, but as a man consumed with a fascist lust for absolute power. It has been people like Timothy Snyder and Heather Cox Richardson who have put Trump’s rise in historical perspective and compared what is happening right now in this country to what happened nearly a century ago in Germany with the rise of Hitler, when German corporate titans of the day bowed down to him in fear.
Now the reporters and editors at the Post and the LA Times can help show the world what contemporary fascism looks like by refusing to countenance the craven subservience of their owners. There are leaders at the Washington Post, in particular Bob Woodward and Eugene Robinson and David Ignatius and Ruth Marcus and Karen Tumulty, who can show the way for their colleagues by leading a newspaper-wide walk out. With what we are seeing every day from Donald Trump, they can call it a “Strike Against Fascism,” or “A Call to Arms.”
You might accuse me as a freelancer of not taking seriously the possibility that people at both papers might lose their jobs for leading or participating in a walk-out. But people have already resigned in protest at both papers. This isn’t a time to show fear. It’s a time to stand up to power. The writers and editors have a lot to lose, but they have already been treated as expendable, and they’ve been told they are in danger of losing their jobs anyway.
The guy Bezos put in as publisher of the Post, former Murdoch hitman Will Lewis, bluntly told Post staffers when he was appointed, “We are losing large amounts of money. Your audience has halved in recent years. People are not reading your stuff. I can’t sugarcoat it anymore.” He could have been talking as well to the staffs of the New York Times and the three major television networks and cable news like CNN and MSNBC. All of them are in an existential crisis at this crucial moment in our history. Newspapers are closing across the country. Television networks and cable news shows are hemorrhaging viewers.
The arrival of Bezos and Soon-Shiong to “rescue” two major American newspapers has shown us how hollow were any hopes that billionaires will or even can make a difference in today’s economic and political climate.
But workers can make a difference. With ten days to go until the election, let’s see if a day with no newspaper in Washington D.C. and Los Angeles can make a difference. Maybe a strike will teach reporters and editors and the rest of us that we are beyond the point of being able to affect our lives and the lives of others. Or maybe rallying against the fascism that has been stealing our national politics will help to send more people to the polls to vote for Kamala Harris on November 5.
I do know this: When you are bullied, you STAND UP or you lose your self-respect and your dignity and your right to life. The fascism of Donald Trump would take away all three.

Essential Avengers: Avengers #242: “EASY COME... EASY GO!”
April, 1984
“Okay Avengers, the party’s over!”
Being a buzzkill, party-hating Cover Vision!
Hmm. Something about this cover makes it feel like from an older era. The returned Mighty Avengers logo or maybe the inking? Or perhaps the Silver Age DC superdickery energy to it? I can’t put my finger on it but this feels like a cover you’d see in the 70s instead of the 80s.
Last time on Avengers: Well, they went to San Francisco for a two-parter where they fought Morgan Le Fey to save Jessica Drew’s soul. As ya do.
Vision has also been a tube boy after he walked into a null field. Starfox hooked him up to the Titan supercomputer and that didn’t fix him, it did overclock his robot brain and let him broadcast giant holograms of his own head. That’s almost as good.
This time:
Some guy: “HOLY GEEZ!”
An interesting note, this guy has only ever seen Quinjets in pictures and never thought he’d see one in person. Tells you how often the Avengers hang around Ottumwa, Iowa.
We start with the Avengers in mid-return from California.
In one of the Quinjets, She-Hulk is telling Starfox that she wished they could have spent more time before returning to New York so she could have shown him LA.
Starfox: “Ah, well... I’m sure another opportunity will present itself, She-Hulk! Besides, the scenery around her has plenty to offer!”
Wanda looks like she’s trying to astral project away from Starfox putting his hand on her shoulder but she’s really just distracted thinking about Vision.
The Avengers on the Jessica Drew mission radioed back to the Mansion that they were bringing Hank Pym home but Wanda suggested that Hank could examine Vision and maybe fix him. But Vision rejected the idea and Wanda is at a loss for why he’s determined to overcome his robo-paralysis on his own.
I’m also a little confused why they didn’t call on Hank Pym sooner to examine tube Vision but then again that would have been super awkward for Wasp and Reed Richards, that hack, said Vision should have recovered quickly.
Speaking of super awkward, Hank and Wasp are alone together in the other Quinjet.
Hank is also baffled that Vision turned down his help. He repaired him once before! Remember? He got super tiny and had a fantastic voyage inside him? In Avengers #93?
Jan comments that she hasn’t heard Hank sound so confident in years and he confirms that devoting his time fully to SCIENCE and taking superheroing off the table as an option has done wonders for his emotional outlook.
He also reiterates that he never felt cut out for the superhero life. Aw, enjoy it while it lasts, bud.
And he thanks her for calling him Hank instead of “Dr. Pym” like she did at the hospital.
Wasp: “Oh... That. Well, when you flew out at my request to help save Jessica Drew’s life... after all we’d been through... the divorce and all... I’m afraid I slipped into my stuffy Avengers chairwoman voice. I thought it might make things easier, but it didn’t... For either of us. I’m sorry, Hank.”
Hank Pym: “That’s okay, Jan. I understand. Your ‘stuffy chairwoman voice,’ huh? Heh-heh. How often do you have to use that?”
Wasp: “Wellll... Most of the time the others will go along with ol’ ‘dingaling Jan’ -- but sometimes, I have to get tough. That never fails to grab their attention!”
Hank Pym: “No doubt! Once, I was the only Avenger who knew how tough you really were! I’m glad the others are learning.”
Wasp: “I guess that none of us are ever too old to learn, Hank.”
Feels like Hank is rewriting some things in his memories since Jan often had to diminish herself to make him feel better but then again it didn’t always work so maybe the idea is that he knew all along how strong she was?
Either way, nice to see these two interacting so amiably.
Also, I like that she’s able to be an effective leader while still being ‘dingaling Jan’ since it doesn’t change how smart and capable she is. And the contrast if she has to get serious only helps.
I think overall I like that her leadership style is so uniquely her and that when her character was retrofitted to operate outside of being ‘Hank Pym’s partner’ she still remained recognizably her.
We have a whopping several women on the Avengers at this time (glorious) and Wasp, She-Hulk, Scarlet Witch, and Captain Marvel all feel like different characters.
Since Vision declined Hank Pym’s help, Wasp drops him off back home in Central Indiana.
Once these two were husband and wife, friends and lovers. But they were very different people and, without meaning to, they hurt each other very much. Today, they have perhaps put a small bit of that hurt behind them. Today, they have again become friends.
Daaaaw. Friends.
Wasp returns to Avengers Mansion to discover there’s a full-on party going on. There’s even streamers and a Captain America who seems incredibly enthusiastic about streamers.
(In another fun bit, Monica knew about the party already because she flew ahead to the mansion before joining Wasp in the Quinjet after she dropped off Hank. And she was bursting to not tell Wasp what was going on as they landed.)
Wasp is even more surprised when she learns that the party is celebrating Hawkeye’s marriage.
Wasp: “Barton? You mean Hawkeye? Married?!?”
Hawkeye: “‘Fraid so, Jan! I’d like you to meet my bride... Mockingbird.”
Mockingbird: “How do you do?”
Wasp: “Oh... fine. You’ll have to excuse me. This is... quite a surprise.”
A reaction that Mockingbird says she’s getting used to because she’s seeing it from all of Hawkeye’s friends!
Hah!
Hawkeye asks Cap on the sly whether he made the right move, getting married, but Cap is very supportive, saying its the most responsible thing he’s ever done.
Hawkeye: “What?! Cap, you cut me to the quick! Haven’t I always acted in a mature, responsible manner?”
She-Hulk: “Look who’s talking... the man whose proudest achievement is the invention of the water-balloon arrow!”
Provided She-Hulk isn’t just making stuff up, there’s some serious off-screen shenanigans that we didn’t get to see, possibly involving Hawkeye shooting water balloons at She-Hulk all day.
But... CLINT. YOU INVENTED AN ANTI-GRAVITY ARROW!
Why am I the only one who remembers that?
Thor shows up at the party next, back from his own solo adventures, and offers his own congratulations to Hawkeye.
Mockingbird is undergoing some culture shock here, as she’s astounded that Hawkeye calls Thor “Goldilocks.” And when Thor turns his Thor charm on her, and blesses their wedding, she’s rendered briefly speechless.
Its fun that we get this side of her. I think she was similarly blown away when they met Cap on the subway.
But even though she was a SHIELD agent and then a freelance superhero, she doesn’t seem to have a lot of exposure to your Avengers types so Hawkeye pulling her into those social circles is a lot of fun.
She’s going to get used to it though. I know that she Avenges herself in the future.
Also, look at Thor’s flagon of mead. Holy shit. Its as big as his whole torso.
Jarvis is really dedicated!
Over in a quiet corner of the party, Wanda tries to convince Vision to let Hank Pym take a look at him but Vision dismisses the idea.
Vison: “Please, Wanda, let’s not spoil this happy occasion! Surprise parties are all too rare, and few of them are party to as many surprises as this one!”
And instead of explaining what he means, he turns his hologram off.
Well, okay.
AH HA HE WAS REPAIRED AND JUST DIDN’T MENTION
For reasons of surprise.
What a whimsical turn for the Vision.
Aw, that panel of them kissing and everyone cheering is sweet. That’s how I like to remember them. Not, err, later developments.
(I also like Mockingbird being confused whether or not he’s still a hologram because of his intangibility)
Everyone congratulates Vision for being bipedal again.
Vision: “It’s good to be moving, Jan. But my recovery shouldn’t come as that big of a surprise. As I told you a few days ago, it was just a matter of time before I isolated the cause of my body’s motor dysfunctions -- and initiated the proper repair systems.”
But he tosses some sweet cred to Starfox, for hooking up to an alien supercomputer. It’s like matchmaking but with networks.
The surprise of his surprise recovery pales compared to his next surprise, as he announces (without consulting Wanda at all, geez) that its imperative that she and him stay with the Avengers full-time.
All I’m saying is communication is important, Vizh.
And maybe you should have brought this up with Wasp too? She is the chairwoman and as Cap points out, the team is already pretty packed, especially with Hawkeye and Thor back.
Vision: “Yes, the ‘chairman’s privilege’ limit! But you’re not the leader now, Cap... the Wasp is! And she’ll just have to change that limit -- or the membership roster -- to include Wanda and myself! We will be needed in the upcoming emergency!”
Kinda dropping a lot of surprises on this surprise party, Vision! I don’t know if you really get the concept wholly? You’re not supposed to save up all the surprises for this one day.
Also, Vision’s speech bubbles have changed. They’re still rounded rectangles but they’re not yellow anymore and the font is a bit italicized. Hm. Wonder if that means anything.
Anyway, Vision announces that while he was a tube boy, he detected two major fluctuations of Earth’s electromagnetic fields by some “unknown energy of near-infinite power.”
He’s secretly been working with Reed Richards on this and neither of them have been able to track down what this nonsense is. But until this malevolent mystery is uncovered, he and Wanda as two of the more powerful reservists must obviously be active Avengers.
But how does he know its malevolent if he hasn’t been able to uncover what it is? Deductive reasoning and intuitive presentiment!
Pffffft.
I think this might be my favorite recent punchline from this book.
But Vision has more than just bad vibes to be given a frighten by this upcoming ominousness!
Vision: “The energy I detected goes beyond the limits of any known to man! The power flux showed on our screens for a mere fraction of a second, and then disappeared without a single trace. That concerns me... And it should concern all of us! If we cannot discover the source of this energy, there could be catastrophic consequences!”
And to show how seriously he’s taking this, he makes this horrifying face.
He looks like he’s trying to eat Wasp.
I do not care for this. Either the specific panel or the overall idea of someone eating Wasp.
Anyway, Vision and Scarlet Witch goes off to check the super advanced equipment he installed in the monitor room without asking anyone. He’s doing that a lot lately.
Wasp is both annoyed that he went over her head and impressed with his initiative in doing so.
But she has other matters to attend and asks Thor and Cap(tain America) head down for a private meeting with her.
And now the party is kind of over!
Yeah, you ruined it, Vision! You put too many surprises on the surprise party! You could have saved some for later!
Vision and Scarlet Witch went off to the monitor room. Wasp, Cap(tain America), and Thor went off to have an executive meeting. And Hawkeye and Mockingbird slipped away from their own party not long after that!
Leaving Captain Marvel, She-Hulk, Starfox, and Jarvis to stand around awkwardly wondering where the party went. They didn’t even cut the cake yet!
Dammit Vision!
Hawkeye snuck out to the garden behind Avengers Mansion that’s been there all along. And Mockingbird followed to see what’s bugging him.
Hawkeye: “I’ve always loved this spot. Great tree, isn’t it? Ya know, it’s not easy to get an apple tree to grow this big in the city!”
But Mockingbird sees through that and asks what’s really his beef.
Hawkeye: “Aw, it’s just that I can see another membership shuffle in the works!”
Mockingbird: “So?”
Hawkeye: “So, I’m the one most likely to get bounced!”
I like the range of Hawkeye emotions here.
Hawkeye says that since he has a life (marriage) outside the Avengers now, he doesn’t mind so much being cut from the team. But if they’re going to be facing the latest and greatest menace of all times, he wants to face it with them!
Mockingbird: “That was pretty profound... for a guy who’s supposed to be a butt-head!”
Hawkeye: “Well, thank you, Mrs. Butt-head!”
Aww.
This is a fun bit too.
Mockingbird asks if Hawkeye wants to go inside and get some cake but he shoots an apple from the tree and offers Mockingbird one.
Pretty slick, Clint.
Over at the monitor room, Vision is really into monitoring whatever is upcoming. Super into it. So Wanda has to ask a question.
Scarlet Witch: “Darling... Are you sure you’re all right?”
Vision: “What sort of question is that?”
Scarlet Witch: “You’ve been acting so peculiar lately!”
Vision: “Wanda, how do you expect me to act? I’ve just recovered from spending what seemed like an eternity in a life support tube, able to move about only as a holographic image! Before that, my body was possessed by the dying sorcerer, Necrodamus. And that was almost immediately after I’d gone through the agony of losing an arm. Thankfully, the Inhuman scientists of Attilan were able to restore my limb. But you must admit we’ve both been through a score of trails these past few months! And now, I’ve detected something which could be the biggest menace we’ve ever faced! All things considered, is it really so surprising that I’m acting this way?”
Huuuuuh. I mean, he has a point. That’s a lot of shit in a very short time frame to endure.
This could very reasonably be a reaction to it all.
That’s a very unnerving smile though.
Over at the not-secret but private just Wasp, Thor, and Cap(tain America) meeting, Wasp, Thor, and Cap(tain America) are meeting.
Well, really, its more that Thor is recapping the tale of Beta Ray Bill for the other two. But we, the readers, just get an editor’s caption telling us to read Walter Simonson’s Thor (and I don’t need to be told twice) and Thor summing up to the salient point that Donald Blake is gone forever and is definitely never going to come back multiple times.
What Cap takes from this is ‘hey i hope that means you’re back on the team then!’ which Thor affirms.
Thor: “Aye, Captain America! Some of my finest hours have been as an Avenger. It would be the greatest honor to continue my service in your company... if you will have me!
But Wasp isn’t going to dump Thor from the roster!
Problem being, what the heck is she going to do with the roster? She doesn’t want to dump anyone off it, she doesn’t want to tell Vision to eff off, but she doesn’t want to lead an unwieldy team either. Six is a good number of Avengers!
I love Wasp’s note paper where she’s scrawled various roster ideas, clearly getting more and more frustrated with the exercise.
Cap suggests that maybe a temporary expansion would be the best move, if there even is a menace!
He’s somewhat doubtful of Vision’s story but wouldn’t you know it, as soon as he says that, the priority alarm goes off because Vision has detected the Ominous Energy Readings again.... IN CENTRAL PARK!
And lest anyone doubt Vision this time, an enormous and blinding flash lights up the Manhattan skies.
Cap: “I... believe you, Vision.”
Hah.
The Avengers head for Central Park with devices that Vision has created that will help them trace the energy but he could have saved the time.
There’s a big obvious structure that wasn’t there before. Odds are pretty good that that’s the anomaly.
Hmmm... Y’know, that structure looks familiar. As if I’ve seen it somewhere... But wheeeeeeeeeerre. I guess its a secret to everyone.
The sudden appearance of a large structure right after a massive flash isn’t even the weirdest thing going on. As Reluctant Science Guy Starfox waves around the detecting device, he realizes that the Ominous energy isn’t coming from the giant structure. It seems to be coming from everywhere. But it dips as you get closer to the structure.
Starfox posits that the energy is being focused on the ring from another location.
Curiouser and curioserer.
The Avengers poke around some more. Hawkeye calls attention to an arch built into the wall of the structure. It’s just real interesting. It’s super, incredibly interesting. Plus, the air is nice in the arch.
And it’s an arch. It looks like it’d be a doorway or tunnel to the middle of the structure but it doesn’t go anywhere.
Huh.
How fascinating.
She-Hulk, Cap(tain America), Captain Marvel, Wasp, and Thor join Hawkeye in the arch and agree that it’s a pretty interesting arch.
Perhaps this arch was made for them.
As soon as they join Hawkeye in it, there’s another blinding flash of light and those Avengers vanish in a curl of smoke.
Wow.
I can’t believe Hawkeye, She-Hulk, Captains America and Marvel, Wasp and Thor are dead.
Huh. And Wasp was just complaining about having too many Avengers!
Everyone is appropriately shocked by this, especially Vision because there were no energy emissions coming from the thing so it should have been inert.
Scarlet Witch and Starfox wonder whether the missing Avengers have been teleported somewhere, into some other story... or destroyed.
But before they can investigate the structure for clues, or see if it’ll strike again?, the whole thing vanishes as quickly as it appeared.
The plus side is that it makes Starfox lean toward ‘teleported’ which still doesn’t answer where the Avengers have been taken or who would do it.
If it’s the Collector again, I swear!
Here we go... Follow @essential-avengers because I thought I had more time! Oh geez, I don’t know how I’m going to handle this... Also, like and reblog because I like to think I do good work.

Next post just reads:
Jan 13 Arc de triomph-pot, dogs, wheeled vehicles.
So. Future Monica gonna take over again. I was trying to go to the intercambio at space cowboy that takes place every Thurs. Except that one apparently. Total waste of a metro ride. I walked back and it was FAR. (My theory is the more I walk places, the more likely I am to know my way around. So far: no luck. I mostly will end up somewhere and, to quote teen Titans "oh, I l know where we are, we're at the place I didn't know where we were before." With no clue how I got there. There's Avery lovely park that I swear is a repeat of Setas de Sevilla. No matter which way I go or come from, I end up there. It is a nice park to be fair. I ended up there yesterday trying to get to SaFa library. I heard one person call sagrada familia SaFa once, and I'm going with it. Cuz I'm lazy)
Wow, huge tangent. Sorry.
So, Space cowboy was closed. the nearest metro stop was at arc de triomf. So I went back and wandered around there a bit. Pretty sure that's in El Born, which internet says is one of the hipper areas, along with the gothic district, which is close. I don't know, neighborhoods are important here, but I'm still learning. But the above is a pretty apt description of arc de triomf on a Thursday at like 8 or 9. From the arc there's a long plaza? Paved area or path for people to gather and walk around. I can't think of the word. But there were lots of people and lots of pot, even through my N95 mask. The smell got so strong I eventually had to leave. So lots of people sitting around, a band or two playing. The other group were dog owners playing fetch and exercising their dogs. Lots of dogs. This is a pretty dog friendly city with tons of parks, some with dog parks specifically. Oh well. Maybe if I move back next time? Hind sight 20/20, I wish I would have waited a few days for Mouse to get better. In the end it wouldn't have mattered since Laura was sick. Oh well. It definitely has its pluses, like having to find 2 apartments now. And it's much easier to travel. I just have to actually do that now. But still.
Sorry for the rambling. I really hope at one point these posts will get more stream lined and not just random musings of a scattered mind.
Cheers for now!

I can add a few more references! (Short version: nuTim's official 2012 origin story says he was never Robin.) That said, I haven't read a lot of nu52, so don't take this as definitive.
Panels (and some complaining) below the cut:
Okay! Let's do this. XD
Never being Robin is a big deal in both of nuTim's (terrible, no good, very bad) official origin stories - both written by Lobdell, who I think basically created the character.
Let's start with the so-bad-it's-laughable beginning:
Teen Titans 0 (Nov 2012) gives nuTim's definitive origin story: he was never Robin. It also gives us nuTim's terrible new backstory / personality: he's a super-smart homeschooled championship-winning acrobat with great loving parents who's also obsessed with Batman because *checks notes* uh, because he just is.
He's kind of an anti-hero (he steals money from the Penguin, Anarky-style, while trying to impress Batman) and his main personality traits are arrogance and being kind of a jerk. He's motivated by trying to make his parents proud. After he screws up while trying to steal money from the Penguin, the Penguin tries to kill his parents, who have to go into witness protection.
Bruce inexplicably suggests that nuTim, instead of going into witness protection with his parents, instead stick around and become a vigilante. nuTim's parents inexplicably think this is a great idea.
The origin has nuTim picking his own name and uniform, and establishes his major emotional connection to the Batfamily: he's pretty keen on nuJason:
(Why are Bruce and Alfred so enthusiastic about recruiting a new Robin after Jason's death?! Why is everybody so cheerful after nuTim just screwed up his parents' entire lives?! I DON'T UNDERSTAND.)
Sigh.
Anyway, two years later, in Secret Origins 3 (Aug 2014), we get a retread of the same never-Robin origin story: still championship athlete/hacker with adoring parents, still stole money from the Penguin, parents still in witness protection, worked with Bruce for a short time but moved on quickly to his own anti-hero thing. Again, he was offered the role of Robin but chose not to take it out of respect for Jason:
Two years after that, in Batman and Robin Eternal 5 (Jan 2016), part of the follow-up arc to Forever Evil, nuDick secretly tracks down nuTim's parents in witness protection, because nuDick barely knows nuTim and think he might be secretly an infiltrating child soldier lying about his fake family. Or something. ("Mother" is the big bad.)
And around the same time, Robin War 1 (Feb 2016) clunkily reminds us that nuTim was never-Robin:
So I'm gonna tentatively say that I think that "nuTim has living parents and was never Robin" is the character's backstory at least from Nov 2012 onward.
There may be earlier references, though? I think nuTim's character is mostly defined by Lobdell's Teen Titans run, which I read a few issues of and ... did not like at all, so I gave up. I think he also shows up in Lobdell's Red Hood series, which I've also read very little of (*shakes fist at nuKory*). So, uh, my knowledge here is incomplete.
The never-Robin backstory is sorta kinda retconned in Detective Comics 965 (Nov 2017) - Tim gets his old origin story back - but basically he's then a third character, Rebirth!Tim. Post-Crisis Tim is a high school dropout who was constantly in danger of failing classes, nu52 Tim is a homeschooled genius, and Rebirth Tim is a valedictorian who graduates at 16. Rebirth Tim "remembers" Young Justice at one point, much like Rebirth Dick "remembers" the Teen Titans, but it's... unclear how much of that history happened?
You now know everything I know about nuTim.
WHO THOUGHT THIS CHARACTER WAS A GOOD IDEA, I ASK YOU.
Yo, do you happen to have a reference on when it was said 52!Tim was never Robin? I just started reading the new 52 and they've definitely stated he used to be Robin multiple times in the early issues, so I'm super curious when that was retconned. (Tone over writing is weird, but I am genuinely curious here, not just rude, I swear!)
Red Hood/Arsenal #7, a tie in for Robin War is where I’m specifically remembering it from!

Here’s your NFL playoff rooting guide for the Divisional Round
The NFL playoffs continue with four games this weekend to decide the divisions. Here’s one reason you can root for about all eight teams.
The 2019 NFL playoffs are in full swing, and next up is the Divisional Round this Saturday and Sunday. The weekend kicks off with a big NFC matchup between the No. 1 seed San Francisco 49ers and the Minnesota Vikings, who upset the Saints last week. The weekend ends with another huge NFC matchup in Seahawks-Packers. In the AFC, we’ve got Titans-Ravens to start things off on Saturday, followed with Texans-Chiefs on Sunday.
If you aren’t exactly sure who to root for this weekend, I’ve got some good reasons to cheer on each team playing this weekend.
Minnesota Vikings at San Francisco 49ers
Saturday, Jan. 11, 4:25 p.m. ET
Why you should root for the Vikings: Kirk Cousins.
Cousins has been in the league since 2012, but throughout his seven years in the NFL, he’s earned a reputation of not being able to win big games. That is until last week, when he led a game-winning touchdown drive to defeat the New Orleans Saints on the road in the Wild Card Round:
.@KirkCousins8 to @KyleRudolph82 for the @Vikings walkoff win in OT. pic.twitter.com/aXSJllOqpB
— NFL (@NFL) January 5, 2020
The win was Cousins’ first career playoff victory, and outside of postseason games, he hadn’t really done much otherwise in big games:
He’s 0-9 on Monday Night Football
2-5 on Thursday Night Football
7-15 in primetime games
After the win over New Orleans, he gave us another, perfect “YOU LIKE THAT?!”
Yes @KirkCousins8 we do indeed like that. pic.twitter.com/svG0KryrQN
— Dave Schwartz (@Dave_Schwartz) January 5, 2020
Not too hard to root for a guy like Cousins, is it? If Cousins and the Vikings want to pull off an upset, starting fast on offense will be huge. He’s 7-30 against winning teams, including in the playoffs, but he has another chance to change that record this weekend.
Why you should root for the 49ers: They’re one of the most balanced teams in the league in all three phases.
Kyle Shanahan’s offense has been excellent this season. Jimmy Garoppolo has been helped mightily by the best tight end in football, George Kittle. Shanahan’s offense is the perfect place for the rookie receiver Deebo Samuel, a quick-twitch gadget player, to succeed. Raheem Mostert, a former undrafted practice squad body, looks like an All-Pro running in the offense.
Defensively, the 49ers have an aggressive pass rush led by rookie Nick Bosa and a secondary led by Richard Sherman, who is still one of the top corners in the league. He can both hype his team up on the sidelines and jaw with whatever receiver is lined up opposite him on the field.
On special teams, kicker Robbie Gould is coming off a month when he had a couple of game-winning kicks. He nailed a 30-yard field goal to seal a thrilling 48-46 victory against the Saints, and added another game-winning field goal in Week 16 against the Rams.
That balance makes the 49ers fun to watch — and dangerous.
Tennessee Titans at Baltimore Ravens
Saturday, Jan. 11, 8:15 p.m. ET
Why you should root for the Titans: They eliminated the Patriots.
Maybe that’s doing a disservice to the cool redemption stories of Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry, but that’s the truth of it. The Patriots had appeared in four straight Super Bowls and eight straight AFC title games — and those streaks are over, thanks to the Titans.
The Titans were underdogs against the Patriots, but they won on the back of an amazing performance from Henry. Others played key roles, too.
Don’t overlook what punter Brett Kern did in that game. He booted a punt that was downed at the 1-yard-line, putting the Patriots in a bad position that led to Tom Brady throwing a pick-six from his own end zone before he could even start a potential game-winning comeback.
Head coach Mike Vrabel gaming the rules to run some clock off — a move Bill Belichick himself used — was just beautiful, too.
We don’t have to watch another Patriots game this season. Isn’t that wonderful? Go Titans.
Why you should root for the Ravens: LAMAR DEMEATRICE JACKSON JR.
It’s extremely easy to root for Lamar Jackson (and especially cathartic to dunk on everyone who made the erroneous claim that he shouldn’t be a quarterback). And it will be even more cathartic if Jackson can shake off the only thing still dogging him at this point: his poor showing in the playoffs as a rookie.
Against the Chargers last year, Jackson had completed just three passes going into the fourth quarter. John Harbaugh never pulled him, though, and Jackson responded by completing 11 more passes with a pair of touchdowns. It wasn’t enough to get them the win, so we’re still looking for Jackson’s first playoff victory.
Plus, it sure is nice seeing the Ravens be good AND exciting, as opposed to the team that sent both Joe Flacco and Trent Dilfer to the Super Bowl.
Jackson is so damn good we can’t stop writing about the soon-to-be MVP. Here’s a selection of words we’ve published about him, and this isn’t even all of them!
6 plays that show Lamar Jackson, QUARTERBACK, is the real freakin’ deal
Lamar Jackson has become the MVP we all knew he could be

Houston Texans at Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, Jan. 12, 3:05 p.m. ET
Why you should root for the Texans: If you want to see a team that’s never even played in a Super Bowl reach one.
Not only that, but Houston hasn’t even made it to a conference championship game since its inaugural franchise season in 2002. Every other team currently in the AFC has. The Texans have won five AFC South (2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019) but have failed to make it to the conference championship. Their first-ever playoff game came just eight years ago, when they beat the Bengals 31-10 in the Wild Card Round.
The Texans are coming off of an exciting 22-19 overtime win over the Bills, so we’ll see if Houston can keep this momentum going.
The Texans are 0-3 in divisional playoff games, so this will be the first time in franchise history they’d advance to the AFC Championship if they can knock off the Chiefs on the road. The Texans are currently 9.5-point underdogs, so they have their work cut out for them.
Why you should root for the Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes can get a second chance at winning the AFC Championship.
While the quarterback of the 2019-20 season is obviously Jackson, Mahomes is having another huge year. The Chiefs are in the top five in the league in total pass yards, pass yards per attempt (8.1), pass touchdowns per game (1.9), and average team passer rating (104.4).
Last year, Mahomes won the NFL’s MVP Award, and led the Chiefs to an AFC Championship Game. Kansas City ended up losing 37-31 in overtime to the Patriots, and thanks to the NFL’s stupid OT rules, Mahomes didn’t have a chance to counter New England’s overtime touchdown. Luckily the Chiefs won’t have to play the Patriots in the championship this year, and they can get a second chance to win the conference if they beat the Texans. Perhaps the football gods give us Mahomes vs. Jackson in the title game this year, too!
Seattle Seahawks at Green Bay Packers
Sunday, Jan. 12, 6:40 p.m. ET
Why you should root for the Seahawks: They know how to play an ... interesting game.
It’s probably a massive understatement to call Seahawks games “interesting.” In fact, they’re downright distressing if you’re a fan of them or the team they happen to be playing. All but four of their games this season were one-score games, and they were 10-2 in them.
Their flair for the dramatic was present in their last meeting against the Packers in the playoffs. In January 2015, the Seahawks came back from down 19-7 with under three minutes to go before they won in overtime.
Seeing Russell Wilson in his element — willing his team to victory in a high-stakes game — is always a great time, especially when that opponent is Aaron Rodgers.
Rodgers and Wilson are both no stranger to the playoffs, with each quarterback having nine career postseason wins as a starter. They also hold the two highest passer ratings in the playoffs in NFL history with Rodgers at 102.4 and Wilson at 101.2. The quarterback duel should be a treat, and considering the Seahawks are involved, it’ll keep you on the edge of your seat.
Why you should root for the Packers: If you’d like to see Aaron Rodgers one-up Brett Favre with a Super Bowl win.
Rodgers and Favre both have one Super Bowl victory in their careers. Favre won his first and only one in Super Bowl XXXI in 1997, when the Packers defeated the Patriots. He then lost in the Super Bowl the following year. Rodgers won his first and only appearance nine years ago with a win over the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV. Rodgers was asked this week about winning a second Super Bowl.
“It’s on my mind every day,” Rodgers said via Sports Illustrated. “That’s why we play the game. That’s why you put in the time in the offseason, that’s why you do the little things. It’s to put yourself in this position, where we’re two games away from being able to compete for that. I’m 36. I know what this is all about. This is an important opportunity for us.”
Eight quarterbacks have won exactly two career Super Bowl wins, including former Packers QB Bart Starr, Roger Staubach, Jim Plunkett, John Elway, Bob Griese, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, and Ben Roethlisberger. The Packers are 4.5-point favorites against Seattle at home. Rodgers’ opposing quarterback, Wilson, has never won at Lambeau Field, either.
If Green Bay can beat the Seahawks, the Packers will then go on to the NFC Championship Game to give Rodgers another chance to advance to his second Super Bowl.

You can always use common words related to travel like travel, voyage, journey, etc., and make it into something very interesting. You can also name your business by your specialization like the place you expertise in (To Europe, With Love) or name that suits the purpose like Upper Crust Cruises (sophisticated people).

Rambut dari hitam sampai beruban MCA tolak RUU355...
Rambut dari hitam sampai beruban MCA tolak RUU355....
Itu ketika PAS masih pembangkang dulu dan kini PAS sebagai ahli gomen dah
ragu2 tentang pembentangan RUU355 pula. MCA lagi naik tocenglah...
Sekarang lebai dah tahu bercakap pasal perlembagaan...
PAS akhirnya tiru jawapan DAP dalam isu RUU355.Kena lihat dari sudut perlembagaan dulu.Dulu org bagi alasan ada halangan perundangan, kamu kafir munafikkan depa. Kini kamu guna alasan sama, kenapa tak kafir dan munafikkan diri kamu sendiri..Maknanya tetap kena ikut perlembagaan penjajah lah kan. Yang berhimpun usung orang kampung tu apahal?ape sebab nak kapirkan orang takat nak pinda Undang2 penjajah..bukan kah untuk Politik ? - f/bk
Innalillahi wainna ilaihi raji'un RUU 355...
Baru rkyt sedar.
Takkan nak guna alasan Perlembagaan pula sekarang ni?
Susah sangatkah nak pinda, dulu maki hamun orang kerana tak pinda.
-f/bk
How $3.9bn = $2.5 bn
Return of US$3.9B,
proof of 1MDB fraud...
The return of US$3.9 billion (RM16.6 billion) from Goldman Sachs is proof of wrongdoing in 1Malaysia Development Bhd, said the Pakatan Harapan presidential council. Even though a settlement has been reached on the matter, the process to attain justice is not yet completed and must be continued, it said. Clearly, this is the best proof that money had indeed been stolen by the previous Najib administration. In the same breath, the settlement also proves that contrary to Najib’s years of lies that no money was missing from the 1Malaysia Development Berhad funds, at least US$4.5 billion (RM19.1 billion) had indeed been siphoned, plundered and misappropriated. It said individuals identified by the US Justice Department as playing a part in the fraud, like “MO1” and Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, must be put on trial. MO1, which stands for “Malaysian Official No. 1”, is widely believed to be Najib. “They cannot be allowed to go free just like that,” said the statement. Najib is already on trial for allegedly siphoning off 1MDB funds, while Low has yet to be arrested.
Din vomited on Najib in less than 5 yrs, he is now licking all of it back; licking from
head to toe, incl the asshole, can this guy be a PM supported by Najib and his 40 thieves.?-f/bk
The council said it was only under the PH government that the process to have the money returned began in earnest. It said the PH administration rejected Goldman Sachs’ initial offer to return only US$1.75 billion of the full claim amount of US$7.5 billion.
Malaysia reached a US$3.9 billion settlement with the investment bank over the latter’s role in the 1MDB scandal, in exchange for the country ending all criminal proceedings against the Wall Street titan. The billions plundered from the state investor bankrolled a global spending spree on artworks, real estate and a luxury yacht, among others. Goldman Sachs came under scrutiny over US$6.5 billion in bonds it helped arrange for 1MDB, with Malaysia saying large amounts were misappropriated in the process. The settlement between Putrajaya and the bank comprises a cash payment of US$2.5 billion and a guarantee that at least US$1.4 billion in assets bought with the misappropriated funds will be recovered. – TMI
Now we know what Dr M
had in mind for 'transition'...
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said he had always believed Dr Mahathir Mohamad would hand over the premiership to the former. "It's true. Now we know. At the time we didn't know. (We thought he was a) man of honour. You gave a commitment publicly, we believed you. "Somehow or rather, he says 'no, no, no... that is not what I meant. You (have to) prove (majority support) yourself'," said Anwar (above, left) in an interview Sin Chew Daily published today. Mahathir (above, right), on behalf of Bersatu, had signed an agreement on January 2018 which nominated him as Pakatan Harapan's candidate for prime minister. That agreement stated that he would make way for Anwar to succeed him, but no date was set. The transition became a focal point of much of the Harapan government's 22-month rule, coming to a head in mid-February this year. Following the collapse of the Harapan government in late-February, Mahathir has publicly said many times that he would have stepped down as prime minister after November. But at no point did he state he was committed to ensuring that his party would support Anwar as his successor. During the interview, Anwar accused Mahathir of being fully aware of the plot by Bersatu leaders to withdraw from Harapan to form a new government, but did nothing to stop it. Anwar said this was evident from the leaked audio recordings of Bersatu meetings.
According to Bersatu supreme council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan (above), who was part of many such meetings, Mahathir had never wanted to hand over the reins to Anwar and was open to cooperating with Umno and PAS instead of DAP and PKR. Wan Saiful claimed that Mahathir had instructed Hamzah Zainuddin to initiate talks with Umno and PAS in 2019 to explore cooperation. Mahathir has yet to respond to these allegations. Anwar said that despite now knowing Mahathir's true feelings and intentions, he was still open to cooperating with the latter but will not support him as prime minister again. "Forgiveness is a virtue. This is what Confucius once said and it is in line with Islamic teachings," said Anwar. On Mahathir's claim that DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had mooted Warisan president Mohd Shafie Apdal as a possible prime minister candidate, Anwar said he believed this narrative to be untrue. "That is Mahathir's version. I believe Lim," said Anwar. After the May 18 Dewan Rakyat sitting, Warisan, MPs loyal to Mahathir, DAP, and Amanah began mulling the possibility for forming a new government, initially proposing Mahathir as their prime ministerial candidate. PKR refused to entertain the suggestion, following which Mahathir then announced that Shafie was the new candidate. PKR again refused to commit to this plan.
On whether Anwar "hated" his former deputy Mohamed Azmin Ali (above) - a key figure in the collapse of the Harapan government - the former said: "I just smiled at him yesterday." He was referring to the chance meeting with Azmin and Hishammuddin Hussein in Parliament on Thursday. Photographs of the exchange, where all three figures appeared candid and cordial, were widely shared on social media. Asked for his thoughts on Azmin, Anwar replied: "Azmin has made mistakes. I don't agree with some of his policies... Let the people decide." - mk
cheers.

Cornerback Richard Sherman intercepted Aaron Rodgers’s desperation heave to end the Packers’ season and seal a Super Bowl berth for the San Francisco 49ers. Down, 37-20, inside the game’s final two minutes, Rodgers’ lobbed a deep pass intended for receiver Davante Adams that Sherman cut off. The 49ers controlled the game on the ground behind Raheem Mostert’s four touchdowns and 220 yards, second only to Eric Dickerson for most rushing yards in a playoff game.
Now the Super Bowl LIV matchup is set between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 2. Take a look at what we learned in the conference championship games.

Matt LaFleur and Aaron Rodgers have Green Bay’s offense clicking.
The Green Bay Packers fired Mike McCarthy, their longtime coach, after Week 12 last season in part because quarterback Aaron Rodgers was reportedly unhappy with his boss. Despite a lot of wins together, the Packers had faltered in the last two years.
Enter Matt LaFleur, Green Bay’s 40-year old coach who has a reputation as an offensive savant. A quarterbacks coach with the Redskins and the Falcons, and offensive coordinator with the Rams and Titans, he appears to have Rodgers clicking again.
After two losing seasons, the Packers went 13-3 in the regular season. Rodgers topped 4,000 yards passing for the eighth time in his career. He threw 26 touchdown passes and was intercepted just four times.

The playoffs come to Santa Clara. Finally.

Levi’s Stadium opened to great fanfare in 2014, but the building has largely been a house of horrors for its primary tenant, the San Francisco 49ers. This year, the team has finally arrived, going 13-3 in the regular season and winning its first playoff game in Santa Clara last weekend.
The mood on the field before the N.F.C. championship game against the Green Bay Packers was as jubilant as it has been all season. The sidelines were packed six- and seven-deep with credentialed fans, including Steve Young, Jerry Rice, and Barry Bonds. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo got the loudest cheers as he stopped to sign autographs before heading into the locker room.
There was a sprinkling of Packers fans, who were easy to spot with their bright yellow foam cheeseheads. Home field advantage isn’t what it used to be, but if the 49ers need any encouragement, they’re likely to get it from a highly partisan crowd.
How will Richard Sherman fare against Davante Adams?
Richard Sherman returns an interception against the Minnesota Vikings in the divisional round.Credit…Ezra Shaw/Getty Images
One potential matchup worth watching: 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman and Packers wide receiver Davante Adams. Sherman usually plays on the left side of the field, but he may be asked to shadow Adams, who caught eight passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns in Green Bay’s victory over the Seattle Seahawks in the divisional round.
Sherman, one of the best cornerbacks in the game, intercepted Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins when San Francisco beat Minnesota last week.
Because of Sherman’s skills, offenses often avoid throwing to his side of the field. But the 49ers could place him strategically on the right side, as well.
Read more How will Richard Sherman fare against Davante Adams?
On Thursday, Sherman talked down the notion that he gets more pumped up to cover an opponent’s top receiver, in this case, Adams. “At the end of the day it’s about winning football games. He’s a great player. He’s somebody that we’ve obviously got to account where he is on the field at all times. But in terms of individual matchups, it means nothing to me.”
Aaron Rodgers is looking for revenge against the 49ers.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers’s grudge against San Francisco is among the most talked about story lines in Sunday’s N.F.C. title game. Rodgers, 36, grew up a 49ers fan in Chico, Calif., and played college football at California. The 49ers had a chance to draft Rodgers in 2005, but opted instead to take quarterback Alex Smith with the first overall pick.
Smith, who quarterbacked the 49ers from 2005 to 2012, has had a fine career, but not the caliber of Rodgers, who has won a Super Bowl and appears destined to enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In that draft, Rodgers slipped to the 24th pick, where the Packers selected him. Rodgers has a 4-5 career record against San Francisco, including two losses in the playoffs.

Chiefs take fans’ emotions on roller coaster ride, they’re not mad about it
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs play with fans’ emotions during Sunday’s playoff game, but it made it worth it in the end.
The crowd at Johnny’s Tavern in the Power and Light District went from quiet in the first quarter to Arrowhead Stadium status by the end of the game.
“In this bar, the electricity is amazing,” longtime Chiefs fan Chad Burney said.
Fans weren’t always feeling electric, though.
“I thought we were out of it,” fan Kyle Schmitt admitted. “I think everyone thought we were out of it.”
Nerves kicked-in as a Chiefs win for Nichole Zuniga’s 25th birthday looked bleak. They were down 21-0 in the first quarter.
“Not a lot of people were cheering or talking,” Zuniga said. “We thought a lot of people were going to leave but nobody left so we’re being really loyal fans.”
“No, you don’t lose hope in the Chiefs. Not this team,” fan Andrew Zuniga said.
Sure enough, the Chiefs pulled off the fourth largest comeback in NFL postseason history – in just 10 minutes and 10 seconds.
“Unbelievable,” longtime Chiefs Fan Tom DeLafosse said. “I’ve been watching football for 60 years and I’ve never seen anything like that.”
Chiefs Fan Kylie Hays and her friends built a pyramid out of Johnny’s cups. She believes it has something to do with victory.
“This happened and the game picked up,” Hays said. “So, obviously this is the reason.”
And maybe a little Mahomes magic.
“That’s an offensive machine there you know it’s just a matter of timing, just give him the ball and let him do his thing,” DeLafosse said.
The excitement has spilled out into the streets. There’s no doubt this team has done created an electric energy in Chiefs Kingdom and Kansas City.
“Superbowl, that’s what we’re winning for,” Chiefs Fan Lily Andrews said. “The big thing and to bring the heart of KC all back together.”
One win away from the Superbowl, these fans can feel it in their bones.
“This city’s got it. We’ve got the atmosphere, we’ve got the spirit. So, we just need the win,” Hays said.

Céline Dion Reveals Adele Cheered Her Up During 'Rough Time' With Health Issues
Céline Dion is feeling "much better" with a little help from a friend! Amid health issues that caused her to cancel a few shows this month, the 49-year-old singer took to Instagram on Friday, revealing that Adele played a part in cheering her up. The pop star came to her show at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on Jan. 12, and judging from the pics, it appears she had a splendid time. At first glance, you would think that the photo Dion posted was from a meet and greet with a fan, thanks to Adele's epic outfit. The 29-year-old singer, who we usually see all glammed up, opted for straight hair and minimal makeup, rocking a a pair of comfy black pants with the Titanic tour hoodie from Dion's latest merchandise collection. (You can get the same one for $114.95 on Dion's website) "I had a pretty rough time during the last couple of weeks...a lot of people have been hit with cold and flu bugs... but I'm doing much better now," Dion explained in the caption. "Wasn't able to do all my shows, but was thrilled that Adele came to one of them.... I love her so much!!"
