silly thing to get frustrated over but another internet pet peeve of mine is how ppl use the term analog horror for any internet horror project or any internet project with an 80s-90s tech style aesthetic. [guys. guys. please. i am on my knees here. mystery flesh pit is not analog horror. it's not even in video or audio form (tho it does have some audio iirc?? but it's def not the core of it). please]
i think this phenomenon stems from how most fans of the series that blew up are too young to have grown up with analog technology and thus don't really get what it even means (and I'm not mad at them or anything. they're mostly teens just having fun, who am i to tell them off). not to mention the certain tropes that started getting associated with that medium, like the photoshop liquify tool faces or creepy smiles, that are very much not a necessity for the genre nor confined to its medium, yet are still expected of it or get grouped together with analog horror despite being used in whole other forms of media
please. just say unfiction. put that word in your lexicon. also not every project with slightly creepy vibes is horror, which imo can end up feeling a bit disrespectful to creators who just share smth they intended to be comedic or for the sake of art itself (monument mythos you deserve so much better than this). like words and classifying media don't matter that much but they do help sometimes. also I'm just nitpicky and this post is merely me venting out frustration over smth that doesn't matter much so please absolutely do not take it to heart
