Return To October City For Me
a gift for my friend <3 many happy birthdays to you!
Rated Mature | Warnings: None (if you see spector instead of specter you dont)
The music box plays its broken song, over and over, the dealmaker watches, then closes it only to open it again, restarting the song. Specter has been waiting all year, and he is starting to think you lied to him about visiting.
Every once a year, you promised to visit him. You vowed to endure and follow the untaken path in the darkness. Follow the path to October City, and find yourself unable to return to the light until dawn. Specter always fulfilled his promise to send you back to the world of the living.
The dealmaker, you met him the first time you wandered here lost as sheep without its shepherd. Your story was interesting, interesting enough for the dealmaker to strike a deal. You were cursed, cursed by someone close enough to have something of yours. It was a classic case of an emotionally charged spell— In this case, one made from grief. The price of grief creates spells when emotions forge powerful and irreversible curses, the consequences felt by both parties.
Spector found those rules were put there to make a witch consider their actions first一 Especially when it comes to life-altering spells like curses.
A curse to never find your way home, to wander, to never be able to find peace— An interesting curse he had to admit, and a very specific one too. You do not know what you did to deserve this or who hates you that much to create this curse. The dealmaker or Specter, offered to help you in your dire time of need— For a price.
At the time you foolishly had said you would do anything to go back home, you only wanted to go back to your normal life.
Curse breaking is neither simple nor easy nor cheap; the Spector made sure those three things were very cleverly worded. Your curse is considered a low-level curse, but the raw emotion fueling it makes it complex. You have no idea who or why someone would curse you— Genuinely— Which adds to the cost of your curse breaking.
Specter needs an assistant, a year and one day's worth of service will be enough payment.
What he does not tell you is how time flows differently here than in your world, a minor detail he did feel needed to be spoken about. You are the fool for trusting him一 And here he is foolishly trusting you to return to October City, to return to him,
He pouts, hand ready to knock over the music box you restored for him during your time here. Should have never let you go, is a thought running through his head. The dealmaker gets up when the chime of the bell on the door alerts him of a customer.
“Welcome!” Coming out from the backroom ready to give his usual sales pitch. His eyes widen to see you; you walk into the shop with a gentle smile on your face.
“Hello, Specter.”
You are older now. In the world outside of October City, people age… You are getting older and the dealmaker fears he is going to lose you. Of course, you tell him you can die from anything, not only old age— Saying that did not make him feel any better.
“I told you I'll visit when the veil is thin,” Taking off your coat before hugging him. He hugs you back, squeezing you as he finally can hold you and feel how alive you are. “Haha, sorry I took so long. You know how these ghosts are when they see—”
He kisses you with all he has, even going as far as dipping you as if he and you were dancing. You wrap your arms around his neck, opening your mouth to let him taste you. You ate a piece of candy before coming here and he can taste you made it. Sweet and savory, your happiest memories are with him and the mischief he caused.
“Specter…” He only stopped kissing you to let you breathe, “Ah!” And start biting and kissing your neck, it has been too long and he needs to make sure more memories of him are your happiest moments. You grip the back of his tailored suit coat, your mute lover pulling and pushing you against the counter.
“Wait, oh, wait, the door!” You say between moans and trying hard not to fall apart so show, which might happen with the smirk he gives you as he grabs your crotch, rubbing it while your head tosses back. Legs parting wide, your cheeks burning, the half-wolf going on his knees between your legs.
It is not the first time he has taken you like this, it was during your time of service he had eaten you out while you were behind the counter and tending to a customer. You were a mess then as you are now.
The first day is always him tasting you, sinking himself into you, and making love until the next morning. The next day is mostly you both in bed, you talking about what you have been doing and him listening.
Your time is limited, it always is, and though you could stay here forever in the comfort of luxury with Specter, he knows you are going home.
A week. Every week of your birthday you visit him. He gets to have you for a week. The song on the music box is a reminder of your promise, you bought this for him as the tune reminded you of him. All those months away and you thought of him every day…
Specter places a ring on your finger, your ring finger on your left hand, his face showing how he does not want you to leave.
He never talks unless he must, when he does speak it is with purpose and charm.
“Specter…” You look at the ring as it does not escape your notice of the symbolism of it, “I love you.” Because you do so much, every day you miss him. You glance at the spot where you recreate the ritual to leave October City, the last October Queen statue surrounded by candles. You can leave again… Go home before your world's time changes… Go back to the lonely boring days and nights.
Specter holds you as tight as he can to commit this feeling to memory to last another few long months. The echo of bells as midnight strikes, the candles light up ready to start the ritual to return home.
You still are holding him.

5/12/24, late morning
How about something a little more positive while I wait for my mom to give me the okay to call her for mother's day?
I love my day job! I'm a TCG guy more than anything, hobby-wise, so exploring board games as a sales person has been intimidating, and I frequently feel like I'm underperforming even when my coworkers tell me I'm doing great and that I'm providing skills the crew doesn't have otherwise, but it's a wonderful job. It's relatively low stress, there's ample opportunity to steal extra shifts which makes up for the middling pay, and a (generous) employee discount for arguably my most expensive hobby (ironically Digimon is one of the cheapest TCGs out there) is a godsend.
On quiet days, I'm frequently treated with an opportunity to learn a new board game. Last week I learned Wingspan, a few days ago I learned Wyrmspan, and just yesterday I learned Scout. I've even had opportunities to play multiple games before they were even available to the general public like Gloomhaven Buttons & Bugs and Star Wars Unlimited! So far almost everything that I've played I've enjoyed a lot too.
It might not be the highest paying job, but it's very easy, the staff and management is super laid back and grounded, and I get to learn board games. I literally can't think of anything wrong with that. It's the kind of job that makes me WANT to do my best, so I frequently go above and beyond the level of effort I'd normally exert for other retail jobs I've had.
Besides all that, it might have literally saved my life. Art is cool, but it doesn't pay that well- especially at the level I'm at. This day job being my primary flow of income with art being supplemental has been very good, and I'm very lucky that my patrons and followers are willing to be so patient with me while I find my footing.
I know I've said so before, but I feel like this year I've really got a great chance at succeeding financially. Last year I only had my day job since September, so for 8 months I had to earn a bare minimum of about $1800 a month through art alone so I could set aside 20% for taxes and still pay rent. This year, my day job and Patreon more or less cover rent for me, and everything I make through art is technically "gravy." Right now, all of that is going toward paying off money I owe to my roommate for covering most of our utilities by himself, but once that's all paid off and I'm consistently making enough to keep up with paying half of those bills, 30% of whatever I make through art will be set aside for taxes from now on, regardless of how much I make since I'm not trying to hit a specific threshold for rent, and then the rest can become SAVINGS! The key now is to calculate the average cost of our bills and utilities so I can try to make sure I make MORE per month than what I owe so I can catch up to the ongoing fees. I'm pretty optimistic about that.
BOOKS! As you know, I've been reigniting my love for reading since a little before I moved to WA- mostly because it's cheap (I've fallen in love with my local discount book shop's clearance racks), and it's a great way to fill in dead hours and lunch periods at the day job and quiet evenings at home when I'm done with art. Especially now that it's warming up, sometimes I like to head outside for a walk and then settle down and read in the park. Once in a while I treat myself to a milk tea or something too.
I finished The Archive Undying by Emma Mieko Candon, and I loved it. I'm probably going to give it a second read because I think there were some parts I may have ADHD'd through and not quite absorbed, and the sequel should be out sometime this year too. I got The Archive Undying as a birthday gift last year, so the sequel might be the first brand new book I'll have purchased in a while lol- I'm super excited.
My friend that let me borrow Legends & Lattes picked up a copy of the prequel, Bookshops & Bonedust, which he let me borrow before he started reading it himself, and I devoured it. Much like the first, it's a super cozy little read- not much in the way of substance, very little in the way of world building or complex character relationships, etc, but rich in comfort and good feelings.
Right now I'm working on a collection of Lovecraftian/Cosmic Horror short stories called Horrors Beyond: Tales of Terrifying Realities, and I found a couple more books from my local discount book store I'll tackle after that: What Dreams May Come by Richard Matheson (honestly I did not know this was a book first- shame on me) and The Star Fraction by Ken Macleod. I got them both off the clearance rack for just a little over $5 bucks in all!
I'm also experimenting with audio books. While I'm doing relatively mindless logistics stuff at the day job, I'm listening to audio books in one ear of some things I've read a while ago, but since kinda forgot. My mom was always a huge Anne Rice fan and had proudly collected the entirety of her works, and so I read a handful of books from her library growing up (my personal favorite of what I've read myself actually being Cry to Heaven). One I remember reading but not really enjoying much was actually the first book in her Vampire Chronicles, Interview with the Vampire. I'm not a big Louis fan (I'm more in the Lestat camp myself) and found the book as a whole kinda dull, mostly due to Louis' weak and winging personality, but I've since decided to give it another shot as an audio book, and it IS at least better than I remember giving it credit for. I still don't care for Louis though, lol. I prefer to read myself, but audio books are nice just to keep my brain going with something in the background while I'm doing something otherwise fairly mindless, like alphabetizing and rearranging miniatures or beautifying shelves of product.
GAMES! Not a TON to talk about here tbh. I've mostly been playing FF7 Rebirth, and it's been... Good...? I finally beat it on Normal after about 150 hours trying to exhaust every sidequest and minigame as much as possible, and I've since begun my Hard mode NG+. The story is great, there are a couple parts I'm not fond of that feels like Nomura is just Kingdom Hearts-ing all over FF7, but it's good overall and the gameplay feels really good. The most frustrating part of the game by far is just all the minigames- mostly that in order to completely beat them all, you have to do them PERFECTLY- it's very unforgiving.
Gotta go for now. Talk later. :)

Also my shopping list for tomorrow and this weekend-
But first and foremost I am MAKING BILL AND HOME PAYMENTS EARLY so far i'm 4 weeks ahead and it feels amazing!! Like June was paid early last month and tomorrow I'll pay for July. Would be so cool to get to October and have the rest of the year already paid for. I think I can swing both July and August this month. First time in my life I've ever been able to get ahead like this!! Anyway here's what's in my head-
Storage bins for all our camping supplies
Bubble bath in various flavors 💅
La croix
Fruits and vegetables
Deodorant, my usual one melted when I went camping at the music festival 😫
I really want to treat myself to either a perfume, jewelry (choker or small hoop earrings) or swim suits.... I've been spoiling myself low key and I should only pick one! I feel so entitled to little gifts like this because I've been working so much and this is the most financial freedom I've ever had. It's also the most freedom I've ever had to do what I want with my appearance in terms of buying clothes, jewelry, piercings, etc. I've also been donating a lot and giving away things that no longer resonate with me.
I also need to put at least $300 of my next paycheck(s) in my Roth IRA it's no joke. My savings have been pathetic the extra job only made my spending habits worse!!! The only good thing I've been doing is paying for the house payments early!!
Car wash???? Um I have not washed my car in over 6 months, no shame idc
Maybe a stupid cover for my steering wheel? It's raining flaky black bits all over me when I drive, in addition to all the other issues my car has
Maybe a new cheap yoga mat. My older ones are so beat up and falling apart from me using them outside to workout. Would love a clean one to keep indoors.
If I have a little more money to spare I'd love another couple of pairs of period underwear...
Oh yeah we're also planning a fucking trip to Ireland, so far we only got plane tickets to London. We still need to book everything else. I'm gonna start working like 50 hours a week again soon
I also want thigh high socks from sock dreams!! I've wanted some cute socks from them for years! I want a pair in black and another in olive green or a red wine color. Maybe gray too? They'll be so cute to wear in colder weather with the mary jane heels I got earlier this year.
Ok one last thing.... I want a stand up paddle board... there's this one that costs $300 and it comes with 2 paddles and a bag, and it's inflatable! So it can fold up into a duffle bag. So cool right?
Ok while we're on the subject of exercise, I also want a fucking punching bag and gloves.... I have anger issues I need to work on and I love boxing. Maybe I'll find something on offer up
I also want to go to Catalina for my birthday. Cheapest hotel is $360/night... 😬 I need to take LSD and wander around a quaint paradise and jump in some clear water. I need this for my health!!!!!
I want a tattoo
#is she delusional???#or just used to working her ass off ???#financial freedom is so close i really need to just like put shit in perspective 😪#clearly the car#the trip to ireland#and the savings should take priority here#but i also want to have FUN

There's an echo of death In the last glass of wine a Wine Lover ever drinks How few people get to know Exactly what that wine was going to be
Each bottle was a world of experiences Cultivated from the senses Paired with encyclopedic knowledge Of the region and vineyard and history A memory bank of what the fruit and soil tastes like From one slope How it's changed over many decades The weather conditions each year of each region The fires that turned grapes ashy With the extant threat of global warming The rains that fell too hard too early And wiped out the crop. The years when magic happened. The harvest where skilled hands to gentle delicate work At backbreaking speeds for low pay Often illegal immigrants Yearning for a better life For their families That they won't have to do this work Or will overthrow the bosses when they do
There was a vineyard manager Who learned the terroir of their soil What the soil of each slope tasted like When it's minerals were taken up By the little lump miracle fruit The ancients turned into a good time
A winemaker like an alchemist Tasted grape must and transmuted it Into a richer elixir The knowledge of how each choice Each little way of doing things differently has a taste There is a whole history of production That can be tasted if you learn how to look The body is a delicate instrument Wine lets it test how precise it can be
I listen to my elders Describe the wonder of a world I can barely discern This is not my world But I've lived adjacent to it And they've been generous with their knowledge And their cellars I do not have the patience To put something aside for 37 years In the hopes I can protect it In the hopes I can let it rest As a gift for my future self An act of love For someone I do not know But hope to meet So I can laugh about how I have something You'd be batshit crazy to buy now "Look! I only paid $20 for this!" In 1986
Do not look up what it costs For rich people to do no work Who bought their way into an experience With money and not patience Though decades of security are costly You can't insure it You can't replace it If you hoard it forever you will lose it entirely This is a game of chicken with the future Any bottle could be corked It's an investment for the chance at a gamble
Remember where you were when you bought it In 1986 you published books in San Francisco Book publishing is hell but you did alright You wrote plays and you acted in community theater Those were your real passion I suppose you won't finish your last play now I was at your last show where you played Grandpa The last bottle I will share with you was at your birthday party There was a gourmet pot luck
You raved about the Champaign You saw the face of god In every glass of Champaign you drank You raved about the food You delight so much in your sense of taste You were so generous with your compliments You appreciated everyone You wore your heart so openly You're the kind of old man I hope I'll one day get to be (Thank you for welcoming me Into the manhood of my second puberty With so much grace and kindness) Your wife says you're stopped drinking wine That was more alarming than your apatite Now your friends bring you fine food So she won't have to cook So you can have more time together. It's too late for a get together so people come just to sit To make sure both of you aren't alone right now The summer is drawing to a close And this is your last season
Your wife says you're stopped drinking wine And I wonder what the last bottle you drank was Did you live out the fantasy? Of drinking nothing but the good stuff In your final days High on the hog Or did you break out your best cheap stuff Because the good stuff felt wasted When you felt so rotten
There's an echo of death In the last glass of wine a Wine Lover ever drinks Is this its shadow?

Comparing real companies’ marketing orientation
A product-oriented company is one that focuses on continuously innovating their product in order to draw in customers. A good example of a product-oriented company is Dyson, a household appliance organization. Rather than consider the customer before creating a product, Dyson designed products such as the wireless vacuum and the sleek looking hair dryer that enticed consumers to buy their products. According to their website, Dyson has a customer service hotline that is available for 8 hours and 30 minutes from Monday to Saturday, a Whatsapp number customers can use to chat, and an email address.
A sales-oriented company makes selling their products their top priority. Normally, companies would want to sell a product either through innovation or by consumer demands, but a sales-oriented company isn’t interested in that. These companies aren’t dependent on their product or on consumer satisfaction. They mostly focus on convincing consumers to buy their product. An example of a sales-oriented company would be Acibadem Insurance, an insurance company based in Turkey. While many well-known insurance companies these days put more effort into retaining their customers and improving their customer service, sales are still the lifeblood of the company. Acibadem Insurance brokers will continue to send messages to a potential customer until they either made the sale, or the customer continuously ignores them.
A customer-oriented company heavily focuses on their customers’ wants and needs because they believe it’s linked to company success. Companies that follow this concept more often than not have great customer retention, and highly rated customer service. An example of a customer-oriented company is Nike, the sports apparel brand. Nike tries to appeal to customers and noncustomers alike with their famous ads, using celebrities and popular athletes to draw them in. Nike also has membership benefits, such as free delivery, member rewards, and member products that can appeal to their customers’ wants. The membership also allows members to customize their shoes, which can incentivize customer loyalty. Additionally, Nike stores offer treadmills in some of their locations so the customers can test their shoes out before purchase, which can really assist customers in decision-making. The company also has a robust social media presence, having over 300 social media profiles across popular social media sites (Dereń, 2023).
A production-oriented company outs much of their focus on producing their products in a cheap and quick fashion. Companies that follow this orientation believe that demand is followed by supply, meaning that they mass produce their products and price them at a low cost, which can rope in customers. Innovation and customer satisfaction aren’t as important to these companies, rather, they create products that are used daily and make sure that production costs aren’t high. An example of a production-oriented company is Burger King, a fast food company. Burger King may have interesting ads that showcase their burgers, but there isn’t much of a variety in choice. Their products also have a low cost, an example being their dollar menu. Their products are also made in a timely, albeit sometimes rushed, manner, and can sometimes look undesirable to the customer. While they may lack variety, Burger King has some unique ways to reach out to consumers. The company recently started a contest called the Million Dollar Whopper Contest, which asked consumers what they would put on a whopper for a chance to get 1 million dollars. This contest could generate engagement with the brand among customers and noncustomers alike. Burger King also has an app that can gift customers coupons on their birthdays, which can entice customers to buy more from the company, and possibly even strengthen customer loyalty.

Why to Choose Bobblehead as a Gift
Why to choose bobbleheads as a gift?
If you choose and buy a bobblehead then you will see that this kind of gift will win the heart of those to whom you will give during any festive occasion. These funny appearing dolls have many attractive features that all of you will admire and appreciate in the long run. Here you will know that bobble heads have many attractive features that will make you feel enchanted.
The first beneficial feature is that they have a low cost that you can afford well. Even here these dolls have a very soft makeover and thus your small kids can play with them in a safe way. If you want to decorate and adore your home then just place these dolls in your sitting room to impress guests who come to meet you.
How to choose and buy a good and cheap cost gift?
After you make your mood to choose and buy a unique gift then you will find that a bobblehead will be a very nice option in the long way. This could be a very nice and awesome experience when you are seeking a good gift while you live in the USA.
There are many festive occasions like birthdays, wedding events and New Year celebrations when you need to give a good gift to others. Thus for this reasons we recommend you to choose and gift a bobblehead so that others might become happy and pleased with you. When you do so then you can also save money in your wallet.
Is customizing a bobble head cheap in cost?
In general cases when you order a bobblehead to be made by any gift seller then you have to wait for at least 7 days. This can be a normal time duration within which this doll is made.
Even if you choose a readymade doll and want to customize it then also it will take some time. However in this second case you might have to pay more money as making changes in a gift item is a bit tricky task. So it will be your choice what to do.

Welcome To The Darkside: Dark!Steve x Reader (Mob AU)
Chapter 1 in the Lipstick and Crayons Series
A/N: I just posted a story I know but I’m in love with this idea right now and this is my favourite fic right now. It’s going to be a three or four part fic I think and your support in any form: like, comment or reblog is appreciated greatly. Here is a piece of my heart right here.
Warning: Eventual Non-Con, Sickening Threats, Mob Themes, Violence, Death, Manipulation, sort of Blood Kink I think, Cheap Tricks later.
Genres + Characters: Mob AU, Single Parents AU, Steve Rogers x Reader.
Summary: Steve can't ever repay you for what you did. After meeting you, Steve believes his broken family is the missing piece in the puzzle of your own wrecked one. Indebting the crime lord to you has been the biggest mistake of your life, cause now you can't get rid of him, no matter what. Loyalty and favours go a long way in the mob.
Chapter 1 : Welcome to The Darkside
The gunshots around you frightened you more than anything in your life ever had. The merry, joyful ambience of the carnival was ruined in an instant. Screams around you provoked your panic-stricken form to gather your wits and run or hide. It wasn’t just you caught up in this dreadful situation, there was also someone you’d protect at any cost.
Picking your daughter up and setting her on your hip, you looked around for the way out. Who would have thought that open grounds were hard to get out of? Another wave of terror ran through you when the gunshots audibly neared and the crowd ran in random directions.
You decided to go along the way you recognised the games and shops at. You ran as fast as you could, checking on Grace in between to find her looking curiously all around but still more intent on eating her cotton candy than inspecting. You couldn’t be more thankful for kids' oblivion than at that moment in time.
A bomb explosion up ahead in your path made you halt in your tracks because you knew some of the attackers were scouting there. Turning back wasn’t an option, neither was crying and you were sure you closer to the exit this way. Another blast behind you took away the option of you retracing your path. You weren’t considering it but it gave you little comfort to have your options open.
As the shrieks and screeches grew tenfold, your best bet was to hide, the assaulters had already surrounded the field, the chaos around you informed you. Jumping through innumerable dead bodies, of kids and adults that ached your heart, and dodging bullets while laying low, you went inside a photo booth to hide.
This will not be in vain; you’d protect Grace no matter what.
The curtain to the photo booth provided cover from predatory eyes while the rest of the metal booth was quite safe against bullets you concluded hopefully.
You were just looking for a weapon to prepare for any adversity that might come your way, when the sound of crunching of pebbles made their way to your ears.
Failing to find a weapon in few seconds you opted to attack the intruder yourself when a voice reached your ears, “Mama?”
You puzzled your eyebrows and lowered your defences by just a bit when a toddler stumbled inside the booth, blonde haired and blue eyed. You were definitely not this girl’s mama but you grabbed the kid’s forearm and pulled her inside, shushing her gently and seating her beside Grace on the sitting bench inside. You were thankful Grace entertained her by offering her the pink cloud of sweetness.
You peeked outside but failed to find anyone else in 20 metre radii of you, nobody resembling the wandering kid nor looking for one. You did not know what you would do with another kid in your hands in this dire situation nor was it a wise decision to bring her inside and take her under your wing but you did not have it in you to leave an unsuspecting child, a mere four or three-year-old at that, during a calamity so extreme.
Your maternal instincts governed your thought process, imagining Grace to be in her shoes, all alone and discarded while a possible terrorist attack was happening. The kids’ corpses lying outside gave you no doubt that these children’s fate would be the same if found by the attackers.
A small tug in your dress made you look back and you found the azure eyed kid at your feet, offering you the street food you bought earlier while hugging your leg and observing you. Grace munched in the back silently, still happily eating and unaware.
You kneeled and whispered, “What’s your name, honey?” Maybe the girl understood the urgency, maybe she was just mimicking you but even she murmured in a low voice, “Sarah.”
You nodded, “Sweetie, I need you to sit there quietly and make no sounds, okay? We are playing a staying quiet game.” That was a stupid thing to ask of a kid but you hoped, you really, really hoped she would comply.
Her eyes widened in recognition of something as she eagerly asked, still in a hushed mumble, “Like I does for Dada in meekings?”
“Yes, you smart kiddo. Exactly that.” You replied with what you hoped was a convincing smile and ruffled her hair while nudging her towards her former seat. With kids, you knew a little encouragement went a long way to get them to do things. She whispered an ‘okay Mama’ and went about and sat.
You didn’t get to enjoy her obedience as the thud of pebbles crunching met your ears again. Your breath hitched; your intuition told you that this was not another kid confusing you for its parent.
Your eyes found a discarded piece of metal rod from the booth’s wrecked framework. You grabbed and hoped for the best, to save both the kids at your ability’s mercy.
Steve only saw red. The moment the first shot sounded in the air, he knew whom the assailants were, whom they were coming for. Going out tonight was a bad idea, a really reckless one indeed but when his daughter started bawling seeing the carnival’s lights from the car and wanted to get up and close, he couldn’t say no. He really tried to though, he really did.
It hadn’t been even a year since his wife died, but the father-daughter duo was getting by. He knew his wife took his daughter to the carnival and bought her things, toys and teddies, on every birthday of her own. It was a ritual his wife started, spending her birthday with her little offspring during the daylight and going out for a romantic dinner at the end of the day with her dear spouse. If only things could still be that way, could still stay the same.
When his wife turned out to be an elaborate spy all along, he was baffled. His professional side was, dare he say, impressed by the commitment to character but his personal side was beyond disappointed, disheartened in the worst way because his daughter was his most precious asset in this cruel world and that gift was given by such a treacherous person.
She begged and pled for mercy, to let Sarah have her mother and swore on her life that she quit her espionage journey when she actually fell in love but Steve didn’t trust a single syllable out of her filthy, deceiving mouth, not anymore.
He didn’t kill her though, because Sarah was his first priority no matter what. Her assassination was the work of his rival mob, ‘The Vice Kings’ led by the bastard Rumlow. It was an open invitation for war in the city, for them money came first and useless people had to die. They killed two birds with a single stone, git rid of a useless former member and successfully made a statement.
Then began the still happening rivalry between those Vices and his mob, ‘The Avenging Cartel’. The wound from his wife’s assassination was still fresh, he didn’t miss her as much as he had taken the hit to his pride. There had been a peaceful agreement until the brutal maiming of his spouse and now he was working more than ever, barely able to make time for his princess and that was his only regret, missing her childhood.
And now he felt more futile, his palette of emotions ranging from hues of ire to shades of dread. He couldn’t believe his entourage of trained professionals failed to monitor a two-year-old. He had just stepped aside to take a call, leaving her with his latest driver and three bodyguards. How could he be that clueless to not realise the imposters infiltrating his ranks, standing right there and selling away his location?
As soon as the sound of the first firearm shooting reached his ears, he leapt towards his daughter only to find her missing. His little minx thankfully escaped for one of her little adventures and successfully evaded these cheats, whom he shot right in the middle of the eyes when he glanced at the grenades packing in the coats’ undersides.
His moment of gratitude evaporated in mere seconds as he realised that the Vices now surrounded the entire area, their mission being his daughter’s abduction. If they wanted to kill both of them, they would have already, considering Steve’s distraction gave them quite too many openings. They wanted him to surrender, because mobs worked that way; only when one leader signed off his territories did it become the other party’s possession. If they just cut one head, another would grow in its place, a new leader would succeed the predecessor.
He sent emergency signals to both Barnes and Wilson, the only ones he could trust right now, summoning them with back-ups. The screams of the crowd did not ease him at all, piling on his burden and stress as he prayed for the first time ever, that by some miracle he would reach his daughter first in this field and she would safely be in his arms by the end of the night, not become a victim to what his enemies were planning.
He did have a tracker in her pendant but this realisation hit him later than he’d like to admit, the frustration clawing away his wits. The ground was now quite empty, piles of bodies scattered across the field abruptly where people became victims to the grenades, any person who failed to protect themselves, died. As he was pulling his phone out again, his eyes caught sight a flower bead. The same bead he and his daughter used to make a bracelet a month ago. She wore that everywhere, to day-care, while bathing, to birthdays.
The bracelet was obviously broken now but it was almost like a trail that led to his treasure, like in the Hansel and Gretel’s fairy-tale that Sarah loved. He followed with quiet steps, the beads far apart and some resting under the debris but they sure did lead him somewhere, and when he found the even the pendant in his path, he knew he had only the few beads to rely on.
Some thumps and crashes made him alert, his pistol ready, and when he neared carefully to a distorted metal framework of sorts, his eyes widened.
A young woman had a body in front of her lying on the ground. In a pool of scarlet it rested, still and unmoving while her breathing quickened, her eyes shining with tears that she tried too damn hard to confine to her eyes. He knew how hard the first kill always was, but one grows numb with increase in body count.
Brave women were his type and he would have been turned on by her courage, her hands stained red with whatever weapon she attacked with. Her soft facial features and her curves in the dress she wore were a show stopper for sure, and he would’ve been flirting with her if it was not for the brutal severity of the situation, his daughter missing and in possible danger.
His vigilant senses, courtesy of the epinephrin, picked up two things; the butterfly bead that rested in the door of the booth the woman stood at and the creep shadowing her from behind, ready to attack with a baseball bat he might have found in one of the other game shops.
Steve used his position behind the neighbouring booth to make a bull’s eye shot, the bullet going just an inch above the female’s shoulder and going across the creep’s head. The logo on the corpse’s leather jacket showed Steve he picked the right side to defend.
The sheer suddenness of the move caught the woman off guard as she dropped her weapon and twisted back to find the soulless eyes of her possible attacker staring at her. She quickly armed herself with her attacking rod once again and tried to trace the bullet back from its shooter, her eyes wide and calculating.
Steve decided it was time to interrogate, to find Sarah.
The graze of the bullet above your shoulder alarmed you and you stood dumbfounded only for an instant though. You were sure the bullet was meant for you but the thud of a body behind you, seemingly preparing to attack you proved you wrong.
Calming yourself, you still stood on the ball, because someone killing your attacker didn’t necessarily mean you were safe. With just a pull of the trigger, your fate could very easily be the same. You had to play this smart.
“Lower your weapon. I won’t repeat myself.” A husky voice called out, laced with seriousness which left no room for argument.
You did as he said, knowing that shabby rod was no match against the gun. He stepped out from his hiding position and gave away his location, steps slightly treading towards you. Your hands trembled, heart thumping a bit too loud while blood and sweat coated your frame.
When moonlight lightened his face, you saw his blonde luscious locks, slightly overgrown, a neatly trimmed beard darker than his hair and the cerulean blue eyes that were clear as crystal but shadowed with proficiency.
“Good, now did you see a kid around here? Blonde and blue eyes?”
His question didn’t surprise you, the gun barrel trained on you did. The previous man you had killed, that laid dead ahead of you had asked the same question. You did not know why they were after the toddler nor did you have the time to dwell on it. Time was of the essence now and he was expecting an answer.
The fact that he saved an unsuspecting lady was a plus point, but you also had to consider that he was threatening you all the same. But if that was his kid, it was understood, the resemblance between them was uncanny but that wasn’t enough proof. However, as your flickered to the man you killed, you noticed the logo on his jacket was the same as the one on your possible murderer’s jacket. It still wasn’t enough evidence but you had no choice, the man had a gun and you had two kids relying on you. At least he wasn’t on the bombing side.
“Yes, what is she to you?” You tried to be brave but you were sure he saw right through you.
“You don’t ask the questions here but this one I’ll answer. She is my daughter. Now, where is she?”
“How do I know you’re not lying? I can’t just and her over to you!”
“Her name is Sarah; she is my carbon copy. She is wearing a pink dress with white flowers; pink crocs and her hair is in a ponytail with a white scrunchy. She had two white clips in her hair beside the ponytail. Enough proof?”
No, you could be a creepy paedophile for all I know.
You were still contemplating when he spoke again, “She’s my daughter and I know she’s in that booth beside you. I appreciate you trying to protect her I think but she’ll respond to me calling her. Sarah?”
The little toddler poked her head out, her eyes brightening in recognition and you heaved a sigh of relief involuntarily. Your maternal instinct made you anxious for kids you barely even knew. She ran towards her father shouting ‘Dada’ and jumped into his arms while he hid his gun. You almost snorted at that, tons of dead bodies surrounding you and he was worried about the gun?
He propped her up, hugging her tightly, and with what you knew now, he was scared to death and rightfully so.
Grace poked her head out and ran towards you now, hugging you from behind your legs and silently peeking at the mysterious human. You held Grace’s hand now, intertwining your fingers and felt relief after long. Even though there was no knowing that the man would help you two but you gave yourself comfort you weren’t alone here, not anymore.
Sarah turned and met your eyes again and whispered lowly, “Oops Mama, I think the games over! Sowwy!”
Steve’s eyes widened at that and you laughed at her innocence, feeling light. You played along with the kid, “It’s alright.” You didn’t want to play ‘Mommy’ anymore after that thinking it would offend her father but even, he chuckled, his laugh beautiful and boisterous.
Suddenly men dressed in black and armed with weapons ran about, skidding and crossing you to survey the area out. You shielded Grace once again but the father ahead of you didn’t even flinch. Noticing your unease, he came closer and put a hand on you arm, “I’m Steve and don’t worry, these are my men, the good guys.”
You nodded, not agreeing with his idea of good and bad but since you hoped he did acknowledge that he owed you one, you hoped none of these men would attack you. You introduced yourself and he nodded.
With Sarah on his hip, he started following one of his men and you followed along hoping to get to the exit. He even asked to drop you home but you refused, just wanting to get to the parking and put all these guns out of your kid’s sight. He tsked over his shoulder and you knew he would insist again later but for now he listened intently to the man he addressed as Buck.
This Buck eyed you several times, not so discreetly, while Steve renounced the whole incident of some spies and whatnot. You closed your eyes, not wanting to eavesdrop and just wanting to relax but you could do neither right now. They were after Sarah; you had presumed right.
Sarah made grabby hands from over Steve’s shoulder while Grace slept soundly in your arms, maybe jealous of her. She pouted and then slowly began her lower lip began to tremble. A whine escaped her mouth as she started bawling. Steve stopped to shush her but she continued screeching, “I miss Mama!” and tried to get away from Steve and jump into your arms. Buck looked surprised while Steve’s eyes pleaded yours and you nodded and gave Grace to her and took Sarah in your arms, gently shushing her and patting her back. She drooled in the crook of your neck but that was nothing new and quietened down. You didn’t want to give Grace away but you couldn’t see another child so miserable, not when you had one of your own.
Steve and ‘Buck’ observed you, not saying anything so you broke the silence. “I’m sorry she confuses me with her mother, I hope she doesn’t get offended by this.”
“She’s no more.” Steve looked down and you cursed yourself for breaking the silence, make the situation more awkward and unbearable.
“I’m sorry.” Well that was better than joking about how Grace didn’t have a father either.
“Don’t be, she deserved what she got.” Steve mumbled and continued walking with ‘Buck’, lightly patting Grace and kissing her forehead.
The peck should have bothered you but you were too engrossed by his words to eavesdrop further or check on Grace. What did he mean she deserved it? You didn’t even want to think of the probability of him killing her. With all the soldiers that surrounded you, you suddenly realised he was capable of more than you thought and you felt stupid for feeling safe with him when you did. He was a leader of sorts, a person with unimaginable power and you had dived headfirst in the kind of things you should avoid at all costs. Even though you hadn't crossed him or weren't on his bad side, getting involved was a mistake.
You learnt this lesson the hard way soon enough.

HI! I love your headcanons will you do a Zora breaking up with his noble girlfriend to be with fem magic knight/sorcerer?
Hi Anony! Thank you for this request! Also I'll refer to the noble girlfriend as h/n. I thought of giving her a name but I'm afraid it might be one of your names! haha!
Ahhh, finally writing for my kryptonite again, let me savour this one abit. ♡ლ(´͈◡ `͈ლ)
Zora Ideale x f! reader
TW: Long, for Aine's standards. Angst, vulgarities, verbal and physical abuse
"Get out you fucking cheapo!" she hurled the book at his face but he managed to dodge in time, some other times, he would be a little unlucky and end up getting some cuts or bruises here and there.
It was just another day that they were quarrelling over a tiny matter.
"Babe, I'm sorry I didn't get you the necklace you wanted," he sighed, "it was like half my paycheck!"
"So you could get me this cheap pair of earrings??" she rolled her eyes at him, "It's my birthday gift, couldn't you just save up in advance?? Besides, you're celebrating for me belated. No boyfriend of mine has celebrated my birthday belated before."
"I already explained that I had a longer mission to attend to and this is my first day off.." The red haired knight stared at the floor, "I'm sorry babe, how about I treat you to a nice dinner?"
"A nice dinner? Where? At some low class tavern you peasants go to?" she scoffed, "I'm a noble, you know."
"So, what do you want?" Zora's patience was at it's limits, "can we just end this argument and just have a nice rest-of-the-day at least?"
"how dare you talk to me like this? I already told you that I wanted THAT necklace from clover jewellery in advance!!" she screamed, "not this fucking piece of shit!"
She threw the earrings and it's box at Zora, hitting his temples and crashing onto the floor.
"What the fuck, h/n." he picked the earrings up, it didn't cost him half a month of his salary, but it was still his hard earned money. He walked out of the royal's house, thinking it was best to cool things down.
-------------------------------------
"oi!" you shouted at the masked man in the tree, as you jumped up on one of the branches and threw him a coin, "a yul for your thoughts!"
He gave you a scoff as he caught your yul, "nah, you wouldn't want to know."
"Maybe I do?" you wobbled your way over and sat beside him, "I'm kinda bored right now."
He remained his silence and looked far beyond the horizon.
"Girlfriend troubles?" you spoke carefully and softly.
"how'd you guess?" he answered, still not looking at you.
"Well, I don't think anything would cause the masked vigilante to falter except the matters of the heart," you said nonchalantly, "you seem like a big softie for your girl."
"Hey," he finally looked at you, "I'm not whipped ok."
"I didn't say you were," you stuck out your tongue at him, "well, you wanna spill? Maybe I could give you some womanly advice"
He scoffed and paused for a moment, pondering about what to say to you, "well, I feel like I can't take any of her shits anymore."
You looked at him, waiting for him to continue.
"She's.. a noble. When we first got together, it was all fine y'know, it was like.. Romeo and Juliet." he chuckled a little at how cheesy it sounded, "guess I gave her some excitement to her mundane noble life."
"I can't believe you called yourself Romeo," you rolled your eyes at him jokingly, "but well, Romeo and Juliet didn't have a nice ending"
"Well, if it were as romantic as dying together I wouldn't mind," he gave a little laugh, "but well, guess the spark of excitement started to get dull for her and she started to expect noble stuffs from me."
"What noble stuffs?"
"she wanted expensive gifts, classy dates at restaurants, and she would get angry if I was held up and was a little late or didn't get her what she wanted."
"so what happened this round?"
"it was her birthday, and she wanted this necklace that cost a bomb, geez, I couldn't afford it?? I got her something else, but she was livid."
"what did you get her? a rainbow stink bug?" you laughed, trying to lighten the mood a little.
"hehe, now I wished I did," he chuckled, "I got her this."
He showed you the earrings, still it it's box, without it's cover.
"It looks nice!" you took a closer look at the little piece of jewellery.
"Not to her apparently, she threw it back at me."
You raised your brows, quite unsure of what to say.
"Man, I don't know," he leaned against the tree, "whenever she gets angry over matters like this, she hurls tons of insults as well, like how I'm a peasant and she's a noble. You should've seen her when I broke the news that I couldn't celebrate her birthday with her on her actual day..." he shook his head, trying to get the abusive moments out of his head, "Then I get reminded of how much I hate those higher class people."
"Have you tried talking to her about it? I mean when she's cooled down?"
"Yeah, we did have this talk once of twice," he ran his fingers through his red locks, "but for the past few months, she's been hella difficult. Like she's not even happy to see me anymore."
"Well, Zora," you patted his shoulders, "in a relationship it's about communication, maybe give her a nice talk again, but do tell her to give you some respect. If she loves you for who you are, she wouldn't be mentioning anything about your social classes.."
"I don't know y/n. Maybe I'll talk to her after she cools down."
----------------------------------
A week later, Zora and you went on a short mission and returned after a few days. After returning some of the stolen goods you retrieved at Julius' office, you both decided to grab some food at the Noble realm before heading back to the base.
"Hey! I know a nice cafe that serves great food! It's not too costly as well, the bosses there always gives me a discount, hehe!" you beckoned him to follow you.
As you stepped out of the cafe after your meal, a familiar figure caught Zora's eye. Zora took a deep sigh.
"Who is this?" h/n snapped at Zora, eyeing you from head to toe.
"She's y/n, we were on a mission together earlier today, and now we're heading back to the base." he turned to face you, raising his eyebrow as if to signal you, "and y/n, this is h/n."
"Pleasure to meet you," you raised your hands to shake, but she didn't take it. She took one look at you and returned her gaze back to Zora.
"How could you ignore me??" she glared at the mask man.
"I didn't ignore you, you asked your servants to tell me you didn't want to see me everytime I went over?"
"Yeah? And so do you stop coming over? Do you just stop making the effort??"
You rolled your eyes internally. So this was what he was facing, no wonder he was so troubled.
"I told you I had a mission. I had work to-"
"I don't care! It was my birthday!" she started raising her voice, "How could you walk out like that! Who do you think you are?? And here you are being happy with another bitch the just after a week??"
"Hey. This has nothing to do with y/n." He took a step towards her.
"Oh you're protecting her are you?? Are you cheating on me with this slut? You lowly peasant!" She hurled the drink she was holding at Zora, splashing all the contents over him.
Without thinking, you moved forward and your hands reached out, gaving her a slap across the face.
Everyone looked at you with widened eyes. H/n was shocked beyond words as her mouth was agape and her cheek was starting to burn red from where your hands last left.
"Did your Noble parents ever taught you any manners for once?" you snapped. "Zora seriously doesn't deserve some bitch like you."
"I-I.. How dare you??" She raised her grimoire, wanting to fight.
"ENOUGH." Zora froze her with his trap magic. "We're over, h/n. I'm out of this shitty relationship with you and your stuck up noble ass."
"Are you dumping me?? A peasant, dump me, a no-"
"Shut the fuck up. And yes you just got dumped by a peasant, because you're such a self-centred and toxic person." he threw a rainbow stink bug on her face and released his trap.
He took your hand and he left, never looking back even once at the screaming noble. You did though, you couldn't help yourself and you saw her trying to swat the bug in front of her as she was covered in the stench it was giving off. Many onlookers were staring at her, it could jolly well be the most embarrassing moment of her life.
You chuckled as you looked on, feeling a sense of satisfaction that this bratty noble got the lesson she deserved. You glanced at the man dragging you, and saw that he was still holding onto your hand, firmly yet gently and you wondered how could h/n treat such a guy like him this way.
---------------------------------------
When you both were almost reaching the black bull's base, Zora let your hand go.
"Hey.. I'm sorry about that." Zora rubbed the back of his nape.
"Nahh! No biggie," you beamed at him, "I can't believe you were tolerating this shitty attitude, I surprised you've never slapped her like I did!"
"A true man doesn't lay hands on a woman," he chuckled at the thought of what happened earlier and shook his head, "I can't believed you slapped her."
"A-are you mad?" you pursed your lips, suddenly realising that the said woman was also Zora's lover afterall, "I'm sor-"
"Don't apologise, please. I was surprised but it's kind of a happy surprised feeling," he gave you a soft smile and ruffled your hair, "I should thank you instead, for standing up for me."
You suddenly felt a wave of heat rushing up your face, "I-I wasn't standing up for you, I stood up for myself, ok! she called me names."
You looked at him, giving you that shit eating smirk, his hair still wet from whatever she threw at him, his forehead a little bruised.
"Y-your head. It's bruised," you pointed out, feeling shy under his gaze.
"Oh. It's no big deal. I'm used to it." he rubbed the bruise.
"Used to it??" you asked, and everything added up instantly, "Is that where all the scratches and bruises on your arms and torso came from?"
The impulsiveness in you emerged once again as you grabbed his hands and examined his wounds, "I thought you got all these from fighting in missions."
"Sheesh, am I that bad to be injured all the time?" he grinned at your hand holding onto his.
"Stop that!" you let his hand go.
"Stop what?" his smirk further intensified.
"Are you seriously flirting 30 minutes right after you broke up?"
He let out a laugh, "so you think I'm flirting with you?"
The heat on your face amplified by a hundred folds, as you stomped away, leaving the redhead with a cheshire smile behind.
Zora couldn't forget the image of you slapping h/n across the face and how you lashed out at her for him. He suddenly thought about how you always made the effort to ask him if he was okay whenever he seemed a little mellow, how you always knew where to find him and how you would always listen to him rant. Hell, how you could make him talk about his feelings to someone. He seldom even did that.
He looked at you who was a distance away, looking back at him and waiting for him, something h/n would have never done after walking off. He smiled as he brisk walked towards you, wondering if he had been ignoring the diamond for a pebble.

🎫 Mammon // 💌 Lucifer
Mammon - How do they celebrate their S/O’s birthday, and how would they like theirs to be celebrated with them?
“Mammon, this shirt is WAY too low-cut. I can’t go out like this! I have enough trouble with drooling demons without -“
“A man needs to show off his treasure sometimes, y’know? Especially when it’s HIS treasure,” Mammon cuts in, standing behind you while you tug at the top of your shirt. “An’ even more ‘specially when . . .” Here, he pauses dramatically, then drapes a necklace around your neck. Dangling from the chain is none other than a replica Grimm. The length of the chain deposits it right at the start of your cleavage.
For a second, you want to laugh. Not meanly, but it’s just so MAMMON to give you something like this. Then you realize that this isn’t some cheap gift-store replica. The coin has weight to it and, as you hold it to look at it, you see the eyes of the little skull are actually sapphires. The whole things glints like real gold. And you realize Mammon hasn’t given you a trinket, he’s done exactly as you asked - he’s given you something that means a lot to him. And while it might seem shallow or childish to someone else, you know what it cost him emotionally to spend this kind of money on you.
So you meet his eyes in the mirror and smile. “I love it. The little Grimm’s eyes are like yours.”
He wraps his arms around you from behind, one around your waist and the other around your shoulders. The leather of his jacket is soft against your skin, and he buries his face against your neck - part affection, part to hide his blushing. “Are they? Didn’t notice. We goin’ out, or what? There’s some Gold Label Demonus jus’ begging to be a part of your birthday. Now, everyone’s be there, but you’ve gotta spend your time with me, alright? Because - “
“I know. Because you’re my first,” you giggle. “And if I do have to leave for a few to go dance, you can use that time to start thinking about what you want for YOUR birthday. It’s next month, so I need to start prepping, right?
His eyes light up. “Anythin’ I want?”
“Yep.” You sit on his couch, fastening the straps of your shoes. Waiting for the litany of greed to come pouring out, ready to be amused.
“I want.....I want....” his brows furrow in concentration and thought. “I wanna go away for a bit. With you.”
Blinking a little in surprise, you pause in your shoe struggles. “Away? Together?”
“Yeah, well, it’s not like I, y’know, CARE much, but, uh,” he’s shuffling his feet now, not looking at you, “Y’know, my brothers always wanna spend time with you and havin’ you all to myself makes my birthday somethin’ that’s MINE. Somethin’ they can’t have. I mean, I mean, if you don’t wanna, that’s fine - “
“No, that sounds great! I was just surprised. I was expecting an answer more like ‘a pile of Grimm’ or ‘the Hope diamond’ you know?”
A vague shrug. “Lucifer’ll be more like to do that.”
“Well, I’ll still have a pile of coins for you.”
He looks at you skeptically for a minute, then grins. “Those chocolate coins from the human realm that you got me for Christmas? LOVED those.”
Shoes fastened, you stand up and wrap your arms around him. “So. Your birthday. You, me, a cabin in the middle of nowhere, a ton of movies, and a huge pile of chocolate coins. And, before we go, a big party with everyone.” You grin, a little wickedly. “Maybe hosted and paid for by Diavolo, if we can bring it up to him the right way.”
He dips his head down for a quick kiss. “Perfect. But today’s your day, and you’ve got a party to go to.”
“And when we get back, I’m all yours.”

Lucifer - Do they send loving, cutesy texts to their SO?
You’d never admit it to him, but sometimes texting with Lucifer was better than talking with him.
When you spoke to him, he always remained just a little bit too in control of himself. When he was alone, he allowed himself to feel, allowed himself to be exhausted or drunk. And that’s when he was sweet, when the “love you”s flowed like water.
Because otherwise....
*MC, I need you to walk Cerberus today.*
*What’s the magic word?*
*Now.*
*You misspelled ‘no’ - as in, No I’m not taking Cerberus for a walk. Do you want me to die? Because that’s how I die.*
*Don’t exaggerate.*
*”MC, cut down in their prime, when their arms were ripped off by a three-headed dog chasing a squirrel.” That’s what RAD will report.*
*And then what will Diavolo say?*
*LORD Diavolo.*
*Not the point, Lucifer.*
*This is your chore for the day. See that Cerberus has his walk. Or else.*
*Be nice to me, if you’re also going to be mean.*
*What?*
*Say something nice to me. It might be the last time you get to text me.*
*I’m in a meeting, MC!*
*Hasn’t stopped you from texting orders. So I’m sure you can text something nice.*
*or else*
*MC, are you threatening me? We might need to revisit what happens when you do that.*
*I’m sure you remember.*
*MC, are you there?*
*Where did you go*
*Is everything ok? Did one of my brothers do something?*
*Did Beel eat everything in the kitchen again?*
*MC?*
*Are you walking Cerberus?*
*It’s been half an hour, he doesn’t need THAT long of a walk.*
*MC, I’m not in the mood to fill out paperwork on whatever incident you’re not talking to me about.*
*Wait, are you LEAVING ME ON READ?*
*This is because I wouldn’t say something nice, isn’t it?*
*For a human, you have a wonderful grasp of torture.*
*There, I said something nice.*
*Try again.*
*Your ability to bewitch me is unparalleled.*
*Thank you.*
*Which is quite an accomplishment, given your last test grades in Seductive Speechcraft.*
*Lucifer has been blocked from texting this number for 60 minutes. Extend block?*

No one asked for my opinion but on the questions you asked about hotch:
I feel like he's mostly a pen guy and doesn't use pencils a whole lot unless he's worried about making mistakes, in which case he'll use pencil. I think he has one of those electric pencil sharpeners but avoids using them at all costs bc they're loud and he's got PTSD³
Definitely a pen guy but will not use mechanical pencils unless he absolutely has to. Definitely a fan of those fancy ballpoint pens and I feel like Rossi has definitely given him a really fancy set of gold and black fountain pens. Garcia has Definitely given him those fuzzy pens with the pom poms on the end that he keeps in his drawer and doesn't really use but likes to look at.
I feel like he probably uses whatever the bureau provides him lol but I could definitely see him at staples just looking over the stationary. 100% just gets wooden pencils, pens, and a stapler that he'd probably never use but just wants to be on the safe side. I doubt he'd get anything fun or something he wasn't decently sure he would use.
As for the gifts... hotch in Canon keeps his birthday a secret so people kind of ignore it but for holidays they Def get him a variety of weird office supplies and ties (and a world's best dad mug for secret Santa no I will not elaborate)
Honestly think he got those books in his office to fill up space odjjssj I really doubt he reads them. I mean he's reading one in demonology but I think that's more for personal curiosity that anything, especially since the internet is now a widespread thing. Definetly could've gotten them in law school and just doesn't have the heart to throw them out now.
His inbox is definitely clean. Checks it constantly and sometimes will get emails from the team in the bullpen just because they don't want to walk up (or just Rossi being a little shit). I also think he keeps pics and videos of Jack on there and some team photos from bars and karaoke and stuff for whenever he's feeling low
Unpopular opinion maybe but I hc that he ends up preferring going digital and ends up kind of disliking handwriting for a couple of reasons. First, we see him scrolling through things on the tablet on the jet a lot, so I feel like he's comfortable using it. I also think he tries to be more tech-y because of Jack? He's also left handed and I know lefties have the curse of smudging everything they write, especially bc I firmly believe he uses pen as much as he can. On a more sad note I think it's a lot harder for him to hand write because I hc that his hands hurt a lot and bother him after he beats foyet
i agree about using pens more than pencils.. it just feels more Professional and it's fucking annoying when he tries to go back to read old writings written in pencil and it's faded or worn down. probably exclusively uses black pens, but he has a hoard of multi-colored glitter gel pens from penelope that he uses one at a time to write personal notes for himself like on sticky notes for little reminders or something. (i like to think he has his own version of morgan's "secret fun zone"--it's just a drawer with all the gifts he's gotten from the team that are too flashy for the vibes of his office but he still wants to look at now and then to cheer himself up.) that being said, i think he likes the classic feel of a wood pencil on paper. that's how i think he feels about technology in the office as well: the efficiency and practicality of technology/pens are nice and he's proficient enough to be adept at using both without much error, but he also likes the traditional/old-school feel of pencils, paperback books, "rickety projectors," etc.
i think when he's buying stuff for himself/the office, he shops economically. if it's something he needs, if it works, if it's on sale, and if it's in bulk, he's likely to buy it: it's how he is with everything, from office supplies to t shirts. he's not stingy: he buys a suit because it fits well, not because it's cheap. every once and a while he'll get something nice for himself if something catches his eye, but i doubt there's much that inspires him to make any extravagant purchases. i know gucci tie hotch is real aljkhsg but i really think those are gifts from rossi... the watches... whew that would be next level sugar daddy rossi so maybe he bought those for himself kasjhfgl
that being said, i don't think he ever puts a price limit on gifts for others, but will maintain dedication to practicality: it has to be something they'll love (flowers for penelope) or something they'll use a lot (headphones for morgan). he's not exactly the kinda guy to go all out for every gift giving holiday and get something perfect for every one every time, but every once and a while there may be a little anonymous present on their desk. it's always something that suits them or makes them smile, even on their worst days, and they all pretend they don't know it's from hotch. but when they have to get him gifts... for some reason it's so awkward for them. like. what do you get the guy who's ur boss but also kinda ur dad but also kinda ur friend but also kinda scary but also a loser??? their gifts tend to (unintentionally) reflect their own state of mind since it's kinda hard to think of stuff he would actually like. hotch appreciates the gesture regardless and never throws a single thing away. including the wrapping paper
i think it'd be cute if it was old books from law school. he's not necessarily a hoarder, but we know he's pretty sentimental, and those things are NOT cheap akjshdlg so he just kept them. ik theyre in the fBi so a lotta people he deals with tend to be bureaucrats or politicians... i bet they all notice that his office kinda looks more like a lawyer's office than anything else. unrelated but i'd like to yet again call attention to the bike rack
i agree that his inbox is probably extremely well organized. i don't think it's something he's anal about or anything? he just... has always been on top of his emails. he's never gone longer than 24hrs without clearing out his inbox, so it's never really had the chance to stack up and overwhelm him. it's not something he enjoys, it's not something he despises, it's just a part of his routine. something that needs to be done in a day. like brushing his teeth.
i love the emo hotch headcanon. tbh i think a lot of shit got fucked up after that. he was able to go back to work and be physically fit and whatever, but nothing was quite the same. between his injuries and not bothering to take care of himself as much as he should, he probably gets a lotta chronic conditions that set in earlier than they normally would. so he slowly accumulates things that make his life a little easier: painkillers in the bottom drawer of his desk, setting an alarm reminding him to take his meds, handwarmers in the desk and a heating pad tucked away close to the sofa when things get really bad, etc. the switch to technology makes "paperwork" go a little easier (he still gets stiff typing after a while and needs to do some hand exercises) but he's kinda used to the comfortable press of a pen in his hand, so he still uses pen and paper for certain things. i'm a 1000% sure penelope has gotten him one of those little aromatherapy pouches (likely handmade) which he smells from time to time. he's uncertain of the science behind it, but it still helps him feel better. he's not sure if it's actually working, if it's a placebo effect, or if just the reminder of penelope is what's doing the trick, but he's absolutely not going to ask reid and risk ruining it.
#thank youuuuu for all these akjshdlkgj this was absolutely wonderful and gave me an excuse to think ab this stuff#i KNOW its stupid little mundane things but thats what makes it so human yk?#asks#aaron hotchner#i want to see him in an office depot#i want to see him shopping w penelope for stuff for the office and realizing far too late that it was a huge fucking mistake#but he has to admit he's having fun looking at different stationary and other stuff jskhdaljkdf
