According to a recent report from the Yorkshire Evening Post, Che Adams is Leeds United’s number one transfer target this month. The current Southampton striker is, according to the same source, viewed as the ideal replacement for Eddie Nketiah, who has now returned to his parent club Arsenal. Adams is yet to score in the Premier League in the first 22 games of the ongoing 2019/20 but is seen as someone who could bolster Marcelo Bielsa’s frontline. But just who exactly is the 23-year-old attacker and what can he bring to the Whites? To answer those questions, we sought the opinion of those who know him best… KEVIN WILSON, ADAMS’ FORMER COACH Wilson was Adams’ former gaffer back at Ilkeston FC, where he played before his transfer to Bramall Lane. And even back then, the now 23-year-old forward was quite impressive in his showings and the type of player who makes you stand up and take notice. Here’s what Wilson said about him to The Star: “Che is one of those players that comes along every so often and makes you think, ‘wow’. He has a real knack of doing things in games that really make you stand up and take notice. “He’s got pace in abundance, but he’s really powerful too. Like the rest of us, Che needs a little bit of luck but if he continues to progress as he is, then he can go all the way in the game. He’s got it all. “His biggest asset is that knack of changing games in the blink of an eye. He stands defenders up and then leaves them for dead. In fact, I’d say he’s capable of doing things that I haven’t seen players do for a long, long time.” GARY ROWETT, FORMER BIRMINGHAM COACH Rowett used to be in charge of Birmingham, one of Adams’ former clubs. He remembers clearly how it was head of analysis, Joe Carnell, that first discovered the young player before he ultimately signed for the club in 2016. Here’s what he said on Sky Sports EFL Matters, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail: “Our head of analysis Joe Carnell was always banging on about him and the more I watched of him, the more I liked him. “He just has an all-round game, he’s a player we tried to bring to Stoke in the summer but we failed. But he’s got a bit of everything. “Che is a Premier League player in the waiting.” Call yourself a Leeds expert? How much did each of these January signings cost? CHRIS SUTTON, PUNDIT Sutton is a former Birmingham forward and a regular pundit on BT Sport. One player who certainly caught his eye back in 2019 was Adams. Here’s what Sutton said during an interview promoting The Sportsman’s Perfect 10 game, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail: “Che Adams I like. I think he is a tremendous young talent with great movement. “Adams is a really exciting prospect. He’s got good pace is intelligent and I think he is going places.” VERDICT It would seem that Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds simply can’t go wrong with Adams. Snatching the 23-year-old from the Saints will be easier said than done, with Ralph Hasenhuttl admitting earlier this month that he can’t consider loaning him out, but it’s a deal the Whites should be chasing regardless. #LeedsUnited #PremierLeague #CheAdams

Former footballer Darren Bent thinks Watford’s Andre Gray could be the answer to Leeds’ striker search after labelling the ex-Burnley man as the ‘perfect’ signing. Gray has started just seven times in the league for the Hornets this season while he has plenty of Championship experience with Brentford and Burnley, and was instrumental in the latter’s promotion in 2015/16 as he scored 23 times. Recalling his history in the second tier, Bent told Football Insider that Gray could be exactly what Leeds will be looking for in their quest for top-flight football. He said: “He was one of the best players in the Championship that season, he’s got the pace, the power and that might be just what they need. Obviously [Patrick] Bamford isn’t really scoring the goals at the moment and it seems like neither they or West Brom want to win this league at the moment. It’s strange but I think that will be the perfect signing.” Gray is just one of several strikers who have been talked up as a possible partner for Patrick Bamford in the Leeds attack, with Che Adams and Dwight Gayle among the other potential arrivals at Elland Road that have been mooted in recent weeks. The Watford striker has clearly shown he has what it takes at that level, while his Premier League experience would surely be of use to Leeds should he join them and help gain promotion, so it would appear this is a move that ticks many boxes. That Nigel Pearson’s side have rejected Leeds’ advances (according to The Athletic’s Phil Hay) would look to be a major spanner in the works, though Bent’s summation of his credentials certainly earmarks the 28-year-old as another potential avenue for the Whites to explore. While Hay suggested wages could also be a stumbling block, Gray’s signing may not be a particularly likely outcome, though Leeds would perhaps know exactly what they were getting by bringing in the striker. Leeds fans, does promotion depend on buying a new striker? Let us know what you think below! Leeds United fans were hitting out at the club after the latest update from journalist Phil Hay on the side’s transfer plans. The Athletic’s Leeds correspondent revealed news concerning both Southampton’s Che Adams and Manchester City youngster Ian Poveda. He told his followers that a decision about the Saints man is still to be reached with the Yorkshire outfit having set a deadline. Meanwhile, Poveda is still expected to hold talks with the club despite being spotted in the stands for Tornio’s win over Bologna (via Tuttosport). The moves for the two players would plug some much-needed gaps in Marcelo Bielsa’s side, which is limited to just one striker after Eddie Nketiah returned to Arsenal and with Tyler Roberts still out of action (via Transfermarkt). There is also a concern about the side’s attack with Leeds having scored the fewer number of goals than both Brentford and West Bromwich Albion (via BBC). Fans were left feeling concerned by the news revealed by Hay as they took to Twitter to react after watching their side lose to Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday recently, of course. With that in mind, here is a selection of tweets from the Elland Road faithful: The longer this drags on, the more I think the club messed up by refusing to pay Roofe the same as Bamford. — Joel (@Roly_Joel) January 14, 2020 We are so slow at getting transfers sorted out. I’d be embarrassed to be Victor Orta — Hendo (@HendoLJ) January 14, 2020 Phil when did they know for certain about Nketiah? We as fans known for 13 days surely something should have been boxed off by now and they should have been primed it was widely rumoured since October that he would go back — – (@yaboysharpy) January 14, 2020 aka orta & kinnear pic.twitter.com/wdkLDFWpLT — Barnsleylocks (@Barnsleylocks1) January 14, 2020 Amateur hour — angsta (@angstas) January 14, 2020 The only fools and horses of transfers 🤷🏻♂️😣 — ⚽️ Kevin Power ⚽️ (@kevinpower93) January 14, 2020 Leeds fans, what are your thoughts on the update from Hay?
