A street vendor selling street food. Treat people as people. Don't stick labels on their foreheads.
I shot this one at night, between Chawri Bazaar and Jama Masjid.
Everyone has their particular interpretation of photography, be it street photography or any genre of photography.
I believe in a humanistic approach to street photography. And I am reverting to monochrome interpretations, emphasizing deep shadows and blacks.
These are old images. I start by processing images with DXO Pure Raw.
I use Nik Silver Efex Pro for black-and-white conversions.
Finally, I end with finishing cleanup with Topaz Photo AI

Delhi’s Affordable Design Secrets: Chic Interiors on a Budget
Creating a chic and stylish home in Delhi doesn't have to break the bank. With its rich blend of cultures, traditions, and modern influences, Delhi offers endless opportunities to design a beautiful home on a budget. The city’s vibrant markets, skilled artisans, and innovative design trends make it possible to transform your space without spending a fortune. In this article, we’ll explore some of Delhi’s best-kept affordable design secrets, helping you create stunning interiors without straining your budget.
1. Explore Delhi’s Local Markets
One of the biggest advantages of living in Delhi is the abundance of local markets, where you can find unique decor pieces, textiles, and furniture at a fraction of the cost of high-end stores. Markets like Sarojini Nagar, Paharganj, and Lajpat Nagar offer everything from quirky wall art to vintage furniture that can instantly elevate your space.
For those seeking one-of-a-kind home decor, Chor Bazaar is a hidden gem. This famous flea market offers pre-loved items, antique furniture, and eclectic decor pieces that can add character to any home. A little patience and bargaining can go a long way in these markets, ensuring you get stylish items without overspending.
2. DIY Decor for Personal Touches
Adding a personal touch to your home doesn’t have to cost a lot. DIY (Do-It-Yourself) decor projects are a fantastic way to bring personality to your interiors without paying for expensive designer pieces. With basic craft supplies, you can create your own artwork, paint an accent wall, or even refurbish old furniture.
In Delhi, you can find affordable art supplies in markets like Chawri Bazaar and Sadar Bazaar, where you can pick up materials for crafting custom frames, wall hangings, or handmade pottery. If you have unused or old furniture, a simple coat of paint, or some new upholstery, can breathe new life into it—allowing you to refresh your space on a budget.
3. Opt for Multi-Functional Furniture
Maximizing space while maintaining style is crucial, especially in Delhi’s smaller apartments. Multi-functional furniture can help you do just that. Look for furniture that serves more than one purpose—like sofa beds, extendable dining tables, or storage ottomans. This not only saves money but also optimizes space, making your home feel more organized and spacious.
Delhi’s homegrown furniture stores often offer budget-friendly options. IKEA in Noida, for example, provides affordable yet chic furniture, while stores like HomeTown and Wooden Street have a range of multifunctional pieces that fit small spaces and tight budgets.
4. Use Affordable Fabrics for Instant Makeovers
Textiles can dramatically change the look and feel of your home without costing much. Switching out cushions, curtains, or throws can give any room an instant makeover. Delhi’s Janpath Market and Kinari Bazaar are treasure troves of affordable, high-quality fabrics that can be used for upholstering chairs, creating custom curtains, or even making cushion covers.
Don’t be afraid to mix and match patterns and colors to create a unique aesthetic. Whether you’re aiming for a minimalistic vibe or a boho-chic look, textiles allow you to experiment without committing to costly changes.
5. Embrace Minimalism for an Elegant Look
One of the easiest ways to stay within budget while designing your home is to embrace minimalism. The minimalist design philosophy focuses on simplicity, reducing clutter, and using only the essentials—making it both chic and cost-effective. By investing in a few quality pieces rather than filling your home with unnecessary decor, you can achieve a clean, sophisticated look.
Focus on neutral color palettes, simple furniture, and a few well-placed accents like a statement mirror or an abstract painting. Minimalism naturally encourages you to spend less, as the emphasis is on purposeful, intentional design.
6. Thrift and Upcycle for Unique Pieces
Delhi’s vibrant second-hand markets offer a wide variety of pre-owned furniture and decor that can be upcycled to fit your style. Chor Bazaar and Daryaganj Market are well-known for their vintage finds, including old trunks, wooden chairs, and traditional brassware that can add a vintage charm to your interiors. A bit of polish, paint, or new upholstery can transform these affordable finds into standout pieces.
Upcycling not only saves money but is also an eco-friendly option that helps reduce waste. With a little creativity, you can turn something old into something new and unique.
7. Go Green with Indoor Plants
Indoor plants are one of the most affordable and effective ways to enhance your interiors. They not only beautify your home but also improve air quality and create a calming atmosphere. Local plant nurseries in Delhi, like those found in Lodhi Garden or Sundar Nursery, offer a wide range of affordable plants that are perfect for both large and small spaces.
Choose low-maintenance plants like succulents, snake plants, or peace lilies, which require minimal care and add a fresh, natural vibe to your home. To enhance the aesthetic, opt for affordable but stylish pots from markets like Banjara Market.
8. Smart Lighting for a Cozy Ambiance
Lighting plays a crucial role in setting the mood of a room. In Delhi, affordable lighting options can be found at markets like Bhagirath Palace in Chandni Chowk, which is Asia's largest electrical goods market. Here, you can find everything from chic pendant lights to decorative fairy lights that can add warmth and personality to your space.
Layered lighting is key to achieving a cozy ambiance. Combine overhead lighting with floor lamps, table lamps, or string lights to create a well-lit, inviting home—without spending too much.
Designing a chic, stylish home on a budget in Delhi is not only possible but also enjoyable, thanks to the city's wealth of affordable markets, local artisans, and innovative design ideas. By thrifting, upcycling, and embracing a minimalist approach, you can create a beautiful, functional home that reflects your personal style—without straining your finances. With these affordable design secrets, you can achieve the home of your dreams while keeping your budget in check.

The key to a successful street food tour in Delhi is to come with an open mind and a big appetite!
The Perfect 4-Hour Itinerary
1. Chandni Chowk: A Food Lover’s Paradise
Your street food adventure begins in Chandni Chowk, one of Delhi’s oldest and most famous markets. This bustling area is a paradise for food lovers, with a history that dates back to the Mughal era.
Paranthe Wali Gali: Start your tour with a visit to Paranthe Wali Gali, a narrow lane famous for its deep-fried stuffed parathas. These flatbreads are stuffed with a variety of fillings like potatoes, paneer (cottage cheese), lentils, and even sweet fillings like rabri (thickened milk). Served with tangy chutneys, pickles, and curd, these parathas are a delicious way to kick off your food tour.
Jalebi Wala: Just a short walk away, you’ll find the iconic Jalebi Wala. Here, you can indulge in freshly made jalebis, a sweet treat made from deep-fried dough soaked in sugar syrup. Crispy on the outside and syrupy on the inside, jalebis are a favorite among locals and tourists alike.
2. Karim’s: A Taste of Mughal Royalty
Next, head to Karim’s, an iconic eatery located near the Jama Masjid. Established in 1913, Karim’s is renowned for its Mughlai cuisine, a style of cooking developed during the Mughal Empire that combines Persian and Indian flavors.
Seekh Kebabs and Mutton Korma: At Karim’s, savor the delicious seekh kebabs, made from spiced minced meat cooked on skewers over an open flame. Pair them with a plate of mutton korma, a rich and flavorful curry slow-cooked with a blend of aromatic spices and tender pieces of meat. Don’t forget to mop up the gravy with freshly baked naan or tandoori roti.
3. Kulle Chaat: A Refreshing Snack
After your Mughlai feast, take a short stroll to try some Kulle Chaat, a unique street food snack that originated in Old Delhi. Kulle Chaat is made by scooping out fruits and vegetables like cucumbers, tomatoes, and potatoes, and filling them with a mixture of tangy spices, chickpeas, and pomegranate seeds. This refreshing snack is both healthy and bursting with flavors.
4. Natraj Dahi Bhalla: A Cooling Delight
As you continue your food journey, make a stop at Natraj Dahi Bhalla, a small shop located near Chandni Chowk’s Metro station. Natraj is famous for its dahi bhalla, a popular North Indian dish made from soft lentil dumplings soaked in creamy yogurt and topped with tangy tamarind chutney, spices, and crunchy sev (fried gram flour noodles). The combination of sweet, tangy, and savory flavors makes this dish a favorite among locals.
5. Chawri Bazaar: The Finale with Chole Bhature
End your street food tour at Chawri Bazaar, where you can indulge in a plate of Chole Bhature. This popular North Indian dish consists of spicy chickpea curry (chole) served with deep-fried bread (bhature). The bhature is soft and fluffy, perfect for scooping up the flavorful chickpeas. Many eateries in Chawri Bazaar also serve pickles, onions, and a glass of refreshing lassi to complement this dish.
Tips for a Successful Street Food Tour
Stay Hydrated: Delhi can get quite hot and humid, especially during the summer months. Make sure to carry a bottle of water with you to stay hydrated throughout your tour.
Eat Smart: While street food is delicious, it’s important to eat smart. Look for stalls that are busy and have a high turnover of food, as this often indicates that the food is fresh.
Pace Yourself: With so many dishes to try, it can be easy to overeat. Take small portions and pace yourself to ensure you have room to sample a variety of flavors.
Embrace the Experience: Part of the charm of a street food tour is the experience itself. Embrace the chaos, interact with the vendors, and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere that makes Delhi’s street food scene so unique.
Conclusion
A Delhi Street Food Tour is a culinary journey through the heart of India’s capital, offering a taste of the city’s diverse and vibrant food culture. From savory parathas to sweet jalebis, each dish tells a story of Delhi’s rich culinary heritage. Outside, looking in? I used the focus map in Tony Kuyper's TK 9.3 panel to create the blur and separate the rickshaw wallah from the bright shop.
